Vet assistance staff and front desk staff are very warm and thoughtful. Prices for anesthesia are double the amount of other vets I’ve been to. I was going to be charged $600 to put my dog under anesthesia so he could do X rays.... The vet I usually go to does not need to put my dog under anesthesia for an x-ray, which made me wonder about this doctor’s bedside manner...This doctor almost always needs to redo urine and blood test multiple times and charges You for each time they get an unclear test result....On yelp reviews, it appears that 8 out of 10 pets that have come in for a crisis ended up dying. What a tremendous first visit to ECPH! Thank you to Dr Syed Naqvi and administrative assistants Shirley and Lauren. Our two recently adopted cats even had a great visit, didn't seem to want to leave after their weigh-in and check-up. I am impressed by the professional courtesy of the staff and the knowledge of the veterinarian, especially today on tooth development and care. This business cares about its community, as evidenced by the public service announcements and information abundantly available in the waiting areas - one side accessed from the corner entrance for dogs and one on the Wall Street side for cats, so you know! Shirley knew a lot about the neighboring businesses and showed she is a caring neighbor. Dr Naqvi is a warm and genuine person, and really has great care for the animals who I witnessed come into El Cerrito Pet Hospital. I am sure if there is ever an emergency care situation the doctor and staff here will provide A+ care based on the dedication shown today. Worst experience ever. Brought my dog in thinking he had a lodge bone in his teeth. The doc gave me a $1000 quote and told me it would take a few hours. 6 hours later I showed up and he has been done for 4 hours. The lady tells me that there wasn't a bone and it was just an inflame jaw but since it was under budget so the proceed to draw blood and do these other things. Read Less

I don't even know where to begin as I write this long overdue for the best Veterinarian ever. I'll start with Shirley and the other lovely angels that work for the doctor. She is your first impression and you will immediately love her. You'll know what I mean when you meet her and the others. She and everyone there knows you and your pets by name. They are super knowledgable, experienced, and passionate about pets. I can't thank them enough for taking such good care of my little furry babies. Dr Syed is a distinguished and highly intelligent doctor, and the kind of guy that went I came in hysterical and sobbing uncontrollably holding my 75 pound German Shepherd on the ground of the hospital room got down on the floor with me, and tried to comfort my daughter and I saying he would do everything he could possibly do. Yup he's like that. I was terrified my furry baby would never walk again. He broke his leg in 3 places. Dr Syed did a whole lot but today you would never know that anything had every happened to his leg. Dr Syed also takes care of my 16 year old chihuahua who was recently attacked by a raccoon. The doctor had to have the uncomfortable conversation with me that he might not make it. Of course, I wanted to do everything possible to make sure he would live. A few days later after spending time with his favorite nurse Heather, and Dr Syed I picked up my little guy who looked like his usual puppy self. You would never believe he was 16. They take such good care of my dogs. They are just an unbelievable team of really cool people. If you are looking for a Veterinarian, pet boarding look no further. They are reasonable even modestly priced in comparison, but better than that they are the absolute best. My 11 year old yellow lab has visited this Veterinarian Hospital since age 4 months. The Doctor is thorough and caring.The staff are loving and gentle with your pet. Starting taking our dog that we rescued there in February of 2016, we were very happy with the service, Vet and his staff. Our day g had a issue in August and Dr Navi gave me all of my options and helped us to deal with his cancer that they fishnets send. Shirley was our Vet Tech and gave us and our dog more support and care then any other vet or vet tech could have. They were there till the end helped in supporting us and our dog. We have/had three pets. Dr.  Naqvi has been our vet for about a decade, and we have never been unhappy with the services of El Cerrito Pet Hospital. Recently we had to euthanize one of our dogs who was very sick and old, and the staff was very gentle and understanding and explained to us at every step what was possible and what was best for our pet. It was a very difficult day, but Dr. Naqvi's professionalism and the courtesy of the staff was something I will never forget.Sometimes this place is very busy. It is important to communicate all your concerns clearly to the vet, including your budget concerns, and Dr. Naqvi will always work with you to determine what is best for your pet and your family.I see a few reviews riddled with insults directed towards the staff--it seems obvious that most of these are focused around the high cost of owning and treating pets, from people who don't like spending money to find out what's wrong with their pets and want the vet to do the work for free. If you're an indifferent pet owner or looking for a fix on the cheap, go somewhere else or at least have the dignity not to blame the veterinary hospital for your budget problems. Read Less

0 stars. I will NEVER, ever bring any of my pets here again. We had only gone here because it was so conveniently close to home. I always felt tension when speaking with receptionists but I figured they were just unhappy people - some folks are just negative. I brought my cat here on 1/10/17 to get neutered. The first issue with our service was the bill. They had given us a quote of $100 for the service they would provide. We ended up paying $285 because the vet insisted we get vaccinations and grooming without our consent. They also did not send me home with an e-collar to stop him from licking the wound or any antibiotics.After 3 days of being in a lethargic state and not eating we called the vet again. The receptionist criticized my cats diet (a mix of dry and wet cat food, the Beyond brand) and said that I should be feeding him the 'junk food' of cat food, such as meow mix or friskies. Although I didn't quite agree with this, I tried it. I tried multiple brands of both wet and dry cat food, along with his favorites - raw chicken and tuna. Nothing worked. On the morning of the 5th day I called them again because he still was not eating. I also noticed that he was oozing a bloody pus from his scrotum. I immediately called my vet even though I had already made the decision not to go there ever again. They said if you can get in 10 minutes we will see you, if not, sorry.. We close at 2pm today. I brought my cat to the emergency pet hospital on University Ave in Berkeley. He has a terrible fever and has an infected wound from the surgery. This could be from the fact that he didn't have any antibiotics. I haven't seen him licking at the wound until it started to ooze, and he was cleaning himself up. It's highly possible that we was licking it though when I wasn't around. Again, this is because the vet didn't give me an e-collar. Or, it could also be from the fact that this pet hospital is notoriously known for using unsanitary tools when operating. I wish I had read the reviews before going here. I just spent another $416 on emergency care. I have never felt so much hatred for a business before. I was even thinking about taking legal action but I can't afford for a whole team to investigate the work place. I'm deeply bothered by this whole situation and am unsure how I will resolve it at this point. All I can say is DO NOT GO HERE. This business deserves to be shamed. UPDATE: the receptionist called me this morning because I had left them a voice message on Saturday updating them on my cats status. When I asked her why i wasn't sent home with a cone or any antibiotics she said "you weren't sent home with a cone?" almost sounding a little shocked or concerned and put me on hold. Excellent doctor. Very knowledgeable and took the time to explain. Our dog became very sick. I found this hospital through a friend of mine. The doctor did not give undue hope nor scare me into a spending spree. Just gave his straight forward opinion. Dedicated and very competent. Dr. Naqvi and his team provide phenomenal service and truly care about every pet that trots in the door. They know every dog and cat by name, and always provide excellent care. My dog was attacked by an off-leash pitbull, and they were able to close the wound around 80% of the way in a single surgery. Rather than having our dog have to go through the trauma of repeat surgeries, Dr. Naqvi prescribed medication and wrapped our dogs leg on a weekly basis for several weeks. It's been over a month, but our dog's leg has been fully healed. He's able to run, jump and swim again with no problems. I'm amazed at the job that Dr. Naqvi and his team did. I highly recommend them to anyone who has pet needs in the El Cerrito area. Read Less

My dog had a cherry eye last week and I send him to this pet hospital to check. They want me to do the eye surgery. They said is a little surgery but when I get the call later that day, they said my dog died there and they don't know why! My dog's eye and noise were bleeding when he died!
