The Veterinary Healing Center in El Dorado Hills is fantastic. My cat Marshmallow and I have been with them for a year. I brought Marshmallow there for a second opinion about his breathing problems because of asthma and upper respiratory issues. He was getting injections about every 6 weeks, and those many trips to the vet were very stressful on him. Dr. McKerney, took Marshmallow off the injections - steroids and convenia – and put him on a tablet of doxycycline. She fe...lt that his main issue is upper respiratory. Marsh has not had any breathing problems for a year, and he is happy to take his pill in a pill pocket! I have such a positive experience when Marshmallow and I visit. Marsh is not the best behaved patient, and Dr. McKerney is wonderful and is always so patient and gentle with him, and the staff is patient and gentle with him, too – I am grateful, and thankful!! Great experience every time. I have learned through many visits between all my animals, that I can trust these doctors with the care of my pets and also my wallet. The doctors are always reasonable and I never feel like they are pushing unnecessary treatment or diagnostics. I drive out of my way, from Rancho Cordova to El Dorado Hills, to come see the doctors and techs at this practice because I feel like it is definitely worth the drive to get my pets the quality, trustworthy care at a fair price. The Veterinary Healing Center of Folsom and El Dorado Hills has been fantastic. They have been there through some of the most difficult decisions (letting our Oreo go) to just making sure our girls are healthy (annual checkups). They are loving to our Boston and Chihuahua even when the dogs are not willing to be touched. This is a very Caring place. Dr. McKerney has been treating my cockapoo, Waldo, with accutpunture for a couple of months now due to a spinal injry that resulted in paralization in the hind area. Waldo can now walk, a little wobbly. When recommended to me we did not know if Waldo would ever be able to walk again. Dr, McKerney is worth our drive (50miles) and time. She was also very thorough in reviewing all of Waldo's medical records prior to seeing him. Waldo is never expereinces any anxiety about going - that says a lot! Read Less

We as a family take health and good relationships as a key priority for a fun life. We go for the best when it comes to health and healing, we don't cut corners.  We searched for holistic pet care b/c that is all we have ever known and fully desire having choices for healing with Western medicine and alternative practices, like acupuncture, supplements, herbal healing, etc.  Holistic care often comes with a higher consciousness/awareness towards healthy diets, decreasing toxins in pet bodies, organic and non-GMO ingredients, etc.   So we are super grateful we found this clinic!!  Both doctors there and their full staff are wise, empathic, friendly, caring, patient, great listeners, compassionate, go the extra mile, sweet, and love the animals. Our vet was closed and our cat ripped his stitches from an abscess. We called, emailed pictures and they suggested we take him in to get patched up again. Everyone was so nice and caring. They called to check on him and were responsive when I called on Sunday to say he wasn't eating or drinking. They're open 7 days a week! Love these guys!Read Less

Unfortunate circumstances brought me to Dr.Cahoon. My 4 month old boxer was bitten at a dog daycare. The bite required debriding a drain and sutures. They were amazing. Answered all of my question. Replied to an email I sent the following day and offered to see me again just to make sure all was well. If they are accepting new patients I may continue to see him as my regular vet. My female Aussie had surgery here mid March 2017. The staff was very polite, friendly & helpful with a stressful situation I was having dealing with the surgery.I was updated multiple times throughout the day of the surgery and always felt that my girl was in good hands. Where do I begin? Not only do both of my dogs love going to see Dr. Cahoon, but the office visit is enjoyable for myself as he and his staff are so friendly, polite and professional.  I recently relocated to the Bay Area and have not been impressed with vets out there.  I was in town for a short period of time and Dr. Cahoon came in on a Saturday morning just to accommodate me and my schedule in order to see both of my dogs for vaccinations.  I will continue to drive the distance to see him because it's worth it! Anytime my dogs have been sick or had issues, he is able to get them feeling 100% in no time; when dogs leave with their tails wagging, it's been a successful visit. Thanks VHC! Read Less

Being new to the area and in need of a veterinarian I went online found several nearby and then checked reviews on yelp.  I chose Veterinary healing center of El Dorado Hills because they received pretty good reviews and it was within a mile of my house.The office staff was friendly and I was seen right away.  The vet examined my dog made suggestions regarding treatments that I should consider but did not pressure me into making an immediate decision.  I have found with some vets they try and guilt you into costly services that may or may not actually be needed. We are new to the area and needed to find a new vet for our 8 year old GoldenDoodle.  Based on other positive Yelp reviews, we decided to give Veterinary Healing Center a try.  I am very pleased with the care and willingness to try something different for her skin issues (getting her away from a daily pill and to an injection as needed).  Staff and both vets are very nice, competent and good to talk to.  The only drawback is that they take my girl off to another room to examine and do procedures.  This is a totally new thing for me as prior long-time vet (20+ years) did everything in exam room with me present and may or may not be a deal breaker.  We shall see.  Absent that, this would be a 5 star review. I have lived in EDH for 1.5 years and am very pleased with Veterinary Healing Center. I am so happy there's more than one doctor because one doctor doesn't fit everyone. All doctors here are wonderful with my dogs but their personalities don't always fit the owners. We have hit the jackpot with Dr. McKerney. She's very calming to my dogs yet upbeat with me and very nice, happy and sweet. I try to set all our appointments with her. Their staff is equally as wonderful. I have had no problems with the staff and they always try to accommodate me. I do recommend if someone comes to this office and doesn't think they fit with one Vet, ask to see another one next time. They only have your pets best interest at heart. They are constantly trying to find ways to make medicines or procedures less expensive for me. Bad experience at Banfield in Folsom led us to this wonderful facility. Our 14 year old poodle needed oral surgery and a fatty tumor removed from his chest. The staff and doctor were very knowledgeable and thorough. All care and cost were discussed openly and professionally. I highly recommend the Healing Center. We just moved up here and my previous veterinary care in the Bay Area was 24/7 , 365, with an ICU and all the top equipment. Plus, you were allowed to be with your pet at all times, including in the operating room, if you wanted to. I couldn't find anything like that anywhere up here, which is very disappointing. But I did find Dr. McKerney, and although the hours of operation are limited and the office doesn't seem high tech, the first 2 encounters that I've had there seem promising. I like the fact that they combine Western/Eastern approaches and offer acupuncture. Dr Erin is a great listener and seems very caring and knowledgeable. Our dog Mucho was in intense pain last Christmas and having trouble walking. I cannot recommend this practice enough. I originally came here 6 months ago by chance because my little chiweenie, banana, had suddenly started having seizures a week prior and had started to lose control of her body. They were one of the only offices open since it was a Sunday. They were very busy but made time to see her even though we had never been there. They did everything they could to keep her comfortable, and although she passed the next day, I am eternally grateful to Dr. Cahoon for all that he did. Fast forward to today- our oldest dog, Sparta, has a mass in his stomach that we discovered three months ago. With the help of Dr. McKerney he is doing amazingly well. I have never seen him so comfortable with a veterinarian, and he had his first acupuncture appointment today. He almost fell asleep. I call often with questions being a first time puppy owner and having a senior doggie citizen, and never feel like I am being a bother. Would give 20 stars if I could! Read Less

I tried to drop my dog off this morning to get spayed (I had an appointment). The receptionist/front office person saw me standing there, but proceeded to stay on a lengthy phone call. After the lengthy phone call ended, she then got out a file and did another 5-7 minutes of work on it. I waited probably 15 minutes for her to finally start on me. Her attitude was condescending and annoying, quite snippy, and I was having none of it. Finally the estimate she handed me indicated a "low amount" of $350 and a "high amount" of $450. Apparently for a routine spaying surgery, the prices can vary that much. . . which is too much.After glancing at the estimate, I set it on the counter and walked out with the lady still trying to ask me silly, tedious questions. There was nothing else to discuss. I did say "thanks," though.In sum, I left (with my dog) and will seek services elsewhere. I hope the veterinarian who owns this office reads this, and after reading it, I hope he/she explains to his front office lady the following obvious points:1) When a CUSTOMER who HAS AN APPOINTMENT comes into the office at 8AM to drop off their pet, that person NEEDS TO GET TO WORK and IS NOT GOING TO SIT AND WAIT FOR 15 MINUTES for you to GET OFF THE PHONE.2) It's a bad idea to have a snippy attitude if a customer does not answer questions to a level that you consider to be satisfactory. She asked me if the dog had anything to drink this AM. I have no idea. Probably the dog drank some water. I don't know, I am not going to know, and NO I am NOT GOING TO CALL MY WIFE TO ASK HER THAT. No amount of pissy attitude on your part is going to improve my attitude, ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU MADE ME SIT AND WAIT FOR 15 MINUTES TO FINISH A STUPID PHONE CALL.I realize that I am not a perfect dog owner, because among other reasons I did not carefully monitor my dog's water intake before her routine spaying. If that's the type of customer this establishment expects, then I'm glad I ended our relationship now, because it would not have ever worked out. "It's not you, it's me," haha. Also, as a comment, there were lots of signs/ads around the office for "holistic dog healing" etc. which I frankly think is silliness that is used to separate people from their money as early and often as possible.Finally, I have to say that I felt great personal satisfaction in firing this vet office after having been subjected to the long wait and the snippy attitude. Our experience with Dr. Brad Cahoon has been very positive and consistent with the majority of reviewers. I think some of the bad reviews may have pre-dated Brad taking over and opening as Veterinary Healing Center. For example, Rich Johnson is the subject of one negative review, however, Rich is not affiliated with Veterinary Healing Center. Also, I am aware that Dr. Cahoon has invested in new technology since taking over the facility. We are on our second generation of dogs with Dr. Cahoon caring for them. Several years ago, having been frustrated by a couple other vets who seemed to care more about money than pet care, I was referred to Dr. Cahoon by a co-worker who raved about him. He has more than lived up to her reviews for a number of years now. He literally added 3 year's of life to one of our first generation dogs who had been written off by other vets and the emergency hospital. He just wouldn't give up on diagnosing her condition which lead to an cure, which was also affordable. He treated us fairly for her care and when the time came, he was exceptional in giving us honest assessments about the pros and cons of continued treatment and helping us decide what to do. I can't thank him enough for this. Now that our second generation dogs are aging and our Cavalier has a heart condition, Brad began introducing eastern medicine into her treatment (diet, herbs and acupuncture), in addition to western medicine. He was cautious about giving us too much hope, but felt it could improve her quality of life. The result has been a miracle. Previously lethargic and slow, she's now doing better than she was 3 years ago (she is now 10+). Brad is always fair. Conservative with medication. Very informative. Vet techs have been there for years. They know our dogs and treat them as their own pets, even laughing when ours become stubborn and uncooperative. I highly recommend giving them a try, especially if your dog has issues that have been hard to diagnose or treat. Brad will shoot straight and will put you and your dog's interest above his. Dr Brad Cahoon in the only vet I trust. He is proficient, compassionate and listens to my concerns. When my cat needed a specialist, Dr Cahoon knew just the right person to send me to with excellent results. There is zero ego with VHC and the entire staff is very helpful and kind. Also, I really appreciate the fact that Dr Cahoon has mixed both Western and Eastern Medicine into his practice and is concerned that the animal receives the best overall treatment available. I have been coming to Brad Cahoon for 6 years now. I was referred to him by a friend that had an English Bull Dog after I had just adopted my English Bull Dog, Matilda. My friend told me he was the best with bull dogs and he was right. Matilda can be a challenge at times, but Brad is always up to it and never seems to mind. He is very caring and always making sure your baby after leaving the clinic, for whatever procedure, follows up to make sure you and your dog (or cat) are doing ok. Yes, I take my cats there too.
