I had a puppy that was really sick, and it was the only one that opened at 8:30 in the morning, so I went to go see if they can see her because I believed she had parvo. They looked at my dog and said “Appointment?” and we explained how it was an emergency. They straight up said, “Well im sorry but you are going to have to wait. I mean you dont have an appointment so we are going to have to see you like at 1pm. So i dont know if you want to wait.” Honestly, this isnt right for them to do this when it is an EMERGENCY. I'm writing a review and giving five stars to dr huang. She is the nicest person!! Most gentle, caring, and most importantly patient. My cocker spaniel has been going there for over 10 years. He has had a myriad of health problems including a few surgeries. But Dr. Huang has stayed by our side every step of the way. She calls me for follow up questions and never one time I sense that she is in a hurry to hang up. she always invites more questions and give you a very thorough analysis. When there are difficult decisions, she helps me make them to ensure my senior dog has a good quality of life. She helps me avoid unnecessary costs (when she can) and I feel that she truly understands a pet owner's concerns. That is why even though there's a bunch of vets near where I live I choose to travel to this clinic just to see dr huang. I will recommend Dr. Huang to any pet owner!  She has the most compassionate heart and for that she deserves this yelp review and so much more!!!! Read Less

The doctors here are pretty good at what they do, much better than a few years ago.  Unfortunately making an appointment doesn't matter.  The wait time is usually an hour or more  after your appointment, usually more before you are actually seen.  I guess the appointment time is more like a suggestion.  Emergency services are also treated on a wait basis and not necessarily seen.  I've actually brought emergencies here and waited over two hours before they got their fifteen stitches.  The animals get to suffer and need more work and/or meds and they still work at their slow pace.  I gave them three stars because the doctors are pretty good at the diagnosis/treatment.  About ten years ago I brought a dog here and they couldn't get the treatment right. When my cat stopped eating, drinking, getting up at all, I was pleased to get an appointment right away. No waiting when I arrived. The Vet, Dr. Pan, I believe, was sweet and professional, not dramatic about the situation. They gave my kitty some medications and took blood to test for a range of things. The price was less than I had feared, downright reasonable! The next day when the test results came back the doctor had narrowed down some possible causes, and told me that although we could go on to test for exactly what was wrong, it would be much more time and cost effective to just start treating the cat for the most likely conditions. Dr. Huang is a life saver! My dog Alek got hit by a car a few years ago which opened up his stomach, he was in so much pain, & she saved his life, I will never forget that. Recently Alek grew a tumor on his eyelid Dr. Huang successfully removed it, she also cleaned his teeth so well that it's all white again even though he's already 8years old. I recommended all my friends to Dr. Huang, she is knowledgable and always making sure I understand what's going on with my dog, how to fix it/prevent problems. My dog has been coming here for a few years now. I have always received great service. The front desk staff that answers the phones and checks me in are always really patient with my questions and never makes me feel rushed. They even address my dog by his name when we come in. I've never received anything less than excellent service from them. They're also excellent at relaying messages for me to the doctors and always get back to me in a timely manner. They're all super sweet towards the pets and the nurses that come in before you see the doctor are also very experienced with the animals. They know exactly how to talk to the pets and put in their best efforts to calm your frightened pet. My dogs main doctor is Dr. Huang but in our recent visit we have also seen Dr. Pan. When Dr. Huang is not available I can always see another doctor and she will consult with them about my dogs situation. I love how the doctors make themselves available to call me back regarding my questions and concerns. Whenever I go and visit the doctors never make me feel like I'm asking too many questions. They never rush me even though I know they have other appointments after me. So I don't mind waiting for my appointment because I know that when it is my turn, the doctors will provide me with their undivided attention until I'm done with my questions. Recently, my dog was sick and after consulting with Dr. Pan, Dr. Huang personally called me to let me know she was a bit concerned and asked if I could come in for her to exam my dog even though I already had an appointment scheduled 2 weeks out. I really appreciated her concern and definitely didn't feel like my dog was "just a patient" at their clinic. Additionally, during my last visit, it randomly started raining a storm. The office staff was helping their clients to their cars in the rain with their pets. They offered to walk my mother, my dog, and myself to the car with an umbrella , rather than have us run to the car in the rain. That definitely shows that the staff is loving and caring not only towards your pets but also the pet owners.The parking situation can be a bit inconvenient because the lot is really small but you can usually find extra parking on the street.Overall pricing, I think its in the normal range, I mean in general veterinary care for animals seem to be high anywhere you go. And added bonus for this clinic is that the doctors are bilingual (English and Mandarin). This is helpful for me because if I am unable to take my dog to the vet, other family members who don't speak English can help me take him. Read Less

I've been coming here for 5 or 6 years now. And although the place looks a little shabby from outside, the facility is very clean inside. Great place to take my dog for his care and food. It's conveniently located near home.  Great hours.  Friendly and courteous staff. I enjoy the monthly drawing and have won a case of dog food. (Hills Physicians W/D) which is rather expensive compared to the commercial dog food found in local markets. My dog has been prescribed this food, and has kept him out of the ER for several months now, as he is prone to pancreatitis... it was a great surprise today, getting word that we won this month.  Awesome incentive to come to this facility. Our dog Princess recently had to be put down due to a large tumor growing near her tail and spine. I find it such a nice gesture of everyone that works there to write and send us a nice sympathy card along with a paw print of our fur baby. I don't even know why this place is a three star! As a kid, I always walk pass this place coming home from school, since I was in elementary to high school. After 20 years, I finally realize why this place is still standing there.I always went to Petco for everything. After my poodle first ear surgery over there, it came out a little over 500$. When my poodle got another ear infection, I decided to give this place a shot. Doctor Chang was so helpful. Let me first say, the prices here are reasonable compared to Petco. For an ear flush and medicines, it was half the price of Petco. It came out to about 200$. He also taught me how to put the medicine right and where to massage. Yesterday I had just realize that my dog rabies shots had to be renew. This morning I made a phone call hoping I can get an appointment last minute and I did. For three vaccines and the visit, it only came out to 84$. Everything is just great about this place! Read Less

From the outside, definitely not the anywhere I would take my little fur babies to, but it turned out to be a pretty good experience.In my opinion, El Monte is good for Pho or Tacos, not medical care for myself or my pups.  I had a change of heart because my brother in law has taken our Yorkie here many times.Sushi, my yorkie, is about 8 years old and we noticed a small pimple on her skin.  To be on the safe side, we wanted to get it checked out because Googling the pimple led to all kinds of scary shit like cancer, lesions, infections, etc. After a 15 min wait, the doctors was able to see us.  She asked a bunch of questions about eating, behaviors, etc.  Then she felt around the bump and examined it.  She explained that it was most likely a harmless sebaceous Cyst.pets.webmd.com/dogs/dog-…She said not to worry and just to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get bigger.  She gave us options like biopsy or extractions, but felt it was unnecessary.  It came out to $24 for a quick exam, but well worth the peace of mind. Long wait times even when they said on the phone there's no wait if you arrive within 30 min or so.I wouldn't come here for neutering / spaying as their prices are HIGH and the services could be done for less elsewhere.  Very small parking lot, run down looking, and you would think their prices would reflect the overall feel. Thanks again! A friend of mine recommend me this vet. I was taking my pets to another vet but was frustrated when I called them to ask what to give my dogs to prevent them from getting he hydrated. Since one of my dogs was showing signs of dehydration, they told me " bring her for blood test" I was angry. The last time I came in I they charged me $500 for unnecessary blood work and they could not figure what was wrong with my dog. This vet was great, they should compassion for your pets and pet parents, prices were reasonable. Great and friendly service.  The only thing is that they close for three hours at noon. I was a walk in with no appointment had to wait a bit, but it was worth it. They did not charge me an arm and a leg and was more concern of my dogs health and not wallet. I`ve been taking my dogs here to El Monte Dog and Cat Hospital for More then 10 years now, the staff there is soooo friendly, careing and funny. I love Dr Benjemine Lee, he is the head doctor there, he is so nice, so professional and knowledgable treats my dogs like one of his own. I trust Dr Lee so much that i`ve refered Dr Lee to all my friends, co-workers and most important of all my family and they have been seening Dr Lee with their dogs for years too. They all love Dr LEE. THANK YOU DR BENJEMINE LEE, THANK YOU TO ALL THE DOCTORS, THANK YOU EL MONTE DOG AND CAT HOSPITAL. Me and my golden retreiver LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! My dog is always very excited when he goes into the hospital, and the workers all love him. Their prices are the best around the area, and the doctors are all very informative and knowledgeable. My dog has gotten all of his shots here, got neutered here, and had a tumor removal here, all of which went smoothly. They recently remodeled the office, and it looks great!Another plus is that this animal hospital is tri-lingual, speaking English, Chinese, and Spanish. Read Less

Not only their prices are to think about, but their customer service is the worst, they treat you as if they're treating animals and if not they think they're making you a favor ... Hell no!!! We pay for a service!!! I brought my female dog to be spayed and the front clerk ignored me for a while, with attitude the girls handed me a clip board to fill and if you have a question you're the stupid, any how I intended to ignore it at that time because my dog was going to stay there, I really don't complaint much for customer service only when they really are mean. Yahoo has great reviews about this hospital so don't believe these. I just got into this and have found it very helpful. My mother has been going to this vet forever. My sister wanted to try a trendier place in Pasadena... bad idea! It was horrible. I tried walking in with my puppy but it was absolutely packed. The receptionist told me they would still be able to see me no problem but I figured I would come back later and wait less with an appointment. I called later to make one and the manager was great. I literally had this girl on the phone for like 30 minuets! Just answering questions about my puppy, First puppy ever and me and my sister are super paranoid. During my appoint ment the staff were awesome. No one rolled their eyes at me for all my questions like the other place in pasadena. My vet was Dr. Huang and I will trust her with my dog forever. We ended up waiting on vaxcines since my puppy has a bit of the sniffles.Plus their pricing is very very decent. My boyfriend just got back from his appointment with his dog that ended up needing surgery for a gash! Read Less

My dog got ran over and El Monte Dog & Cat Hospital did not use it as an excuse to overcharge me (unlike TLC). They were 200% cheaper and way more sympathetic than TLC.
