I had taken my 18 year old cat to Hatton for several years since moving to Elk Grove.  When I had to put Smokie down I came into Hatton to get it done. The process itself was not bad but afterwords I didn't hear back from them. I called them about two months later only to find out they had lost the paperwork. Their was nothing that could possibly they could do to save this from being a better situation but refunded me my money.  I would not go back and I do not recommend them to anyone. Read Less

We used to go to another vet clinic and it was taken over by VCA. About that time our veterinarian left the clinic and went to work with Hatton. We followed her to Hatton, even though we live in Sacramento, and we are so glad that we did. The compassion, concern, and knowledge shown by Dr. Ku and the rest of the staff are unsurpassed. I dropped my Golden Retriever off at this vet hospital before I left for Brasil. She is a healthy one year old Golden with no medical problems.  When I came back after 1o days this month, she had a scrap on her nose, and could barely walk.  The staff just claimed that she was having a hard time walking on the front tile floor. About 5 days later, she is still walking like that....I am taking her to another vet for an independant evaluation.  This staff is anal, and suffers from short term memory loss, as they ask you for your i..d. every time you write a check. This hospital needs to worry more about animal care, instead of dollars and cents. The Doctor's and staff were very knowledgeable on the expectations and provide excellent service once surgery was complete and the follow-up care was excellent. My furry baby (10-year-old lab mix) has been a patient at Hatton for a few years. She has been seen mostly by Drs. Takata and Gelderman, who have been lovely in my experience. We recently went through a very stressful time when it was discovered that my dog had a mast cell tumor (which can look like a run-of-the-mill fatty tumor but can be very dangerous and aggressive if not treated ASAP). Dr. Takata (thankfully) was the one who discovered it, and Dr. Gelderman was the one who took over her care thereafter, performing the surgery and seeing her for follow-up visits. I am so grateful to Dr. Takata for helping us make an informed decision as to what to do next for our pup, and to Dr. Gelderman, whose calm and caring presence (along with her wealth of knowledge and experience) got us through the rest of the process. We have been going to Hatton vet sense 2007 All the doctors there are  the best. And oh yes I cannot and will not ever forget the front staff the nail trimmers just everybody there are so kind so caring. They will stop just to say hello and ask how you're doing no matter how busy they they are  they have true  compassion in their eyes and hearts we had to put our baby girl Kalee down a few months back she made it just passed her 13th birthday she was the best for baby anyone could ever ask for. Now we have a new baby girl and her name is Siggie she absolutely loves going to her new doctorThis is the most compassionate veterinary  I've ever been to their small they are carrying  and they cry with you. Hatton Veterinary Hospital had treated our dear Kesar for the past 15 years.  I can ONLY say very nice things about them.  They were always kind and honest and treated our Kesar well.  Dr. Takata has always been a very caring and compassionate doctor.  We had to put our Kesar to sleep last Saturday at the hospital.  They were so compassionate and kind to us.  ALL the nurses and staff who work at this hospital take their job as a calling.  As we are still grieving for our little Kesar, we want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Takata, the nurses and all the others at this wonderful hospital who helped us get through this difficult time with kindness and compassion. Update- I never did switch back to Hatton. I was at a "new" vet that I planned on switching, had an emergency after hours and found a different "new" vet and I absolutely love them. It doesn't mean that I don't like Hatton Vet, I just want to be honest here. I no longer go to Hatton but it is because my dog that passed away used to come here so often and it just has bad memories for me - nothing at all to do with the staff. They are wonderful.old review-I'm shocked by some of the recent "bad" reviews on yelp. I can't say enough about the staff and doctors here.  I had the pleasure of seeing every single doc here (including the wonderful Dr. Hatton) and I was treated so well that I didn't know how good I had it. My pit bull was 13 years old when she got too sick from cancer to continue on. After I made the decision to end her suffering (after numerous vet visits to Hatton for consultation and treatment strategies), I ended up adopting 2 months later (didn't plan on it, just happened). I was still very emotional about the loss of my dog and Hatton, to me, just reminded me of my beautiful lost pup (not that I blamed them at all- it was just a reminder of her). I spent so much time there and the vets worked with me so closely, I couldn't think of Hatton without thinking of my lost doggie.With the new dog, I decided I'd go to a new vet so my new dog would be a fresh start and not a reminder of what i lost. I picked a highly rated vet from yelp and I regret it. I miss Hatton and I plan on switching back. Read Less

DO NOT let your animal be seen by this vet- Dr. Kelley Gelderman at Hatton Veterinary Clinic. I just had the worst experience with her today. My dog has a cherry eye that is getting worse, that I felt should be look at. So because I have my kids this week, I took them with me. My 7 year old son was repeating what she was saying and getting little excited. He was not interfering with the exam. I could tell she was getting annoyed with him. So I said "please ignore him, he is autistic, I am listening." She then talked a little more about my dog's eye and then told me that I should have left them at home (yes, in front of the them). That is when I told her that I am a single mother that has a dog, who is like a kid to me, with what could be an emergency. They had to come with me. She rolled her eyes and said "well I can discuss it with you over the phone, I guess." I was absolutely shocked by her behavior. That is when I told her "no that is ok. I can tell you have no compassion for kids, so I am sure you would be the same with my dog. I do not feel comfortable with you seeing him. I think we should leave." I should have known when she first walked into the room and argued with me about My dog's age. She said he was 7 months and I said "no his birthday is December 21st, he is a little over 5 months." Then she said "so he is 6 months". OMG, really lady? Do not waste your time or money taking you pet to this vet. I do not want anyone leaving in tears like I did...No wonder I was able to get an appointment with her so fast. It is horrible that there are people out there like her.Read Less

We have been taking our dogs to Hatton for the last 4 years. The staff is always very communicative, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. It can definitely be expensive to care for multiple large dogs and some vets will make you feel guilty or really pressure you if you can't afford all the care you'd like to give your pets. However, our dogs have seen both Dr. Takata and Dr. Gelderman and we have never had that feeling or experience. I really appreciate how both physicians are straight forward when it comes to our dogs' needs while being seemingly mindful of the demands of life's other areas. It became especially clear to me that Hatton was wonderful when we went through the extremely difficult process of putting down our 11-year-old golden retriever. I could go into detail, but I'll just say that I'm sure anyone who has ever/will have to go through such a heart breaking experience will appreciate the kind of care we were provided with.Read Less

They killed my dog ....doing a simple spay.... This heart break will stay with me forever My dog had no prior health issues ...the reasons for her death were weak and unfounded.Scary when you hand off a beloved pet for a simple procedure and never see them again.She was cremated so fast I never had time to investigate .... Went here solely on Yelp reviews alone and man, was that mistake a costly one.  Having just moved here in November from the Bay Area, it was time for my dog's annual exam and vaccinations and we selected Hadden.Initial exam completed July 3, 2015 with a clean bill of health given to my Boxer friend.  Assessment completed by Dr. Gelderman with unremarkable findings.  We initially left with heart worm prevention and a good feeling about our 'healthy' Boxer who was 9 years old..  Moving forward to August 10, 2015; the dog suddenly stopped eating anything but would drink water.  We (the lay people/parents) assumed she must have a UTI, because that has happened before with resultant hunger strike.  She continued to drink water but refused absolutely all food so, we took her back to see Dr Gelderman.  Dr Gelderman's assessment yielded no answer or real differential so blood work and urine testing was advised and completed.  We went home with antibiotics, presumed UTI and a $315 bill. We received a call the next day (8/11) from Dr. Gelderman with the lab results and "how is she doing" still with no clear direction of diagnosis.  Our dog had then started to vomit after the second dose of antibiotic was given, so a new one was suggested.  At this time, our dog was still drinking water and walking around. It was Thursday morning 8/13 around 2am while their 'animal hospital' was closed;  our pup started to display lethargy and she lost her motivation that she had before.  So we decided to take her to a real Animal Hospital ER.  Our boxer was seen in the back and the veterinarian caring for her came out within 5 minutes of our arrival and told us that she had a massive tumor on her spleen.  She gave us the options and we went home to enjoy the last few hours we had with her, sad and distraught knowing the end would be soon because surgery for this type of tumor didn't offer much hope.    On 8/13 around noon, our Boxer girl was euthanized.  Having written all of this to say- it would have been much nicer to know Monday and avoid all the unnecessary antibiotics and expenses from Hatten just to spend some quality time with our dog in her dying days.   Avoid at all cost.  Yelp is not always right. Great Location and Friendly Staff.  There was a small incident that made them loose a star but overall clean, friendly, and great location.My friend brought her puppy to get checked and because we were going to the dog park right after, she also brought her other dog. While in the waiting room she asked the vet a quick question about the other dog and the vet very politely answered it with a prescription to help the situation. The front desk made it very clear, in the future she would need to let them know the other dog was being seen as well, and they would have to charge her an office visit fee, etc....the star is lost not so much for the overall situation but more the one receptionists tone. It was as if my friend was some sort of shady pet owner. The receptionist got a rude tone out of no where when my friend went to pay the $150+ bill.  I could just be super protective of my friends but the receptionist could have made a little effort to explain the policy in a friendlier manner.  Again overall, great clean friendly place to bring your dog and I'm sure this was just an exception to the norm. :) Read Less

I just switched over to this clinic and so far it has been great! The staff and friendly and the prices reasonable. I initially came in as I got a new puppy and didn't want to drive to Pocket anymore for appointments. They were able to get me in fairly quickly (two business days from when I called) and took great care of Kona. After her initial appointment, I had to come back as Kona developed a tape worms after we had given her the de-wormer for the round worms and they scheduled me in within 15 minutes of my call. I then came back for a 3rd time in 2 weeks as my other dog Kirra wasn't holding down her food, they once again got me in right away. I love how the doctors followup a day or two after the appointment to check on the animal and make sure they are better. I look forward to my future visits here. Read Less

Whether it's taking in a pet that is doing well and just needs a booster shot, or one that is nearing be end of a long life, the staff here is professional, friendly, knowledgable, empathetic, and realistic. I like that my pets get the care they need, while I get the explanations and fair prices that I want. (Also, once a client, you can get $10 off your next visit for referring a friend.
