Madison Ave Vet Clinic:
My family and I have been long time customers of this vet for years. We have brought in our cockatiel, our golden retriever: Shaggy and our old cats in the past. Sadly all of them have passed on but I have recently adopted two new pups and was excited to take them both here after a bad experience at another vet. Today was my two pups second visit and everything went well until I checked out at the front desk. The old front desk lady: Laura who wasn’t at all welcoming to me both times during my visit, ignored me and didn’t say anything to me as I waited to be checked out so I could pay and leave. I get they are busy and swarmed with calls but Laura intentionally waited until the other front desk girl could help me when she came back in. As I was paying and getting checked out by the other younger front desk lady, I accidentally swiped my card wrong while paying and (Laura) who was sitting right next to us on her computer made a smartass condescending comment and said, “ It’s funny how technology these days is smarter than all of us.” I was immediately shocked and taken back by her rude inappropriate comment. I then confronted Laura before I walked out and asked her what she meant and the old front desk lady (Laura) said,” I was just being facetious”. I was really offended and that’s not okay to say to your customer and was really inappropriate! I’ve already spent about $800 total (both visits) at this vets office and have been a long time customer of theirs for a long time and it was sad and really disappointing to be treated like that! After I called (Laura) out on her inappropriate rude behavior and made it known to her that I was upset about how she treated me she literally just thanked me for letting her know with a fake smile. No apology and just smiled at me like she couldn’t care less. Eventually Laura did apologize to me after I stood there and made it aware that I wasn’t leaving until she acknowledged that what she said wasn’t cool. Laura gave an array of excuses saying that she’s a nice person and doesn’t cuss and this and that (all the same stuff every white person says when a person of color such as myself calls them out for their microagressions). (I’ve experienced these same interactions my whole life and always get the same excuses by white people). Everyone cusses Laura, come on now.
I’ve worked two customer service jobs in my past and have dealt with rude customers all the time and would never make sarcastic facetious comments like that towards them. It was completely rude, unprofessional, and inappropriate of Laura to say insensitive comments like that especially when we are both strangers and don’t know each other. Laura even agreed we were strangers and she even admitted that she was being facetious (which isn’t a good thing) so if Laura agreed we were strangers then she should of known better to not say smart ass facetious jokes to someone she doesn’t know. Laura ignored me when I was waiting to be checked out at the front desk until the other young lady came to help me. Laura had no issue acknowledging another customer at the time who was a middle aged white woman who was waiting in the main lobby with her bunny. Laura had no issue talking with the white customer and chatting her up and being friendly. Not once did Laura acknowledge me and say hi to me, and only when she did she made a facetious inappropriate comment towards me to make me feel like I was stupid and that technology was smarter than me. I didn’t appreciate being treated the way that I did after spending a lot of money here and paying their paychecks and receiving the rude offensive slight I got from the front desk lady: Laura. The other staff of young women were fine and friendly towards me but Laura was a whole different story. Laura then proceeded to tell me she knew how I felt since her husband was Mexican which doesn’t make any difference since some white people who are married or friends with a person of color can still be racist as well. There are a lot of mexican people who are very light skinned and could pass of as white for example celebrity: Jennifer Lopez, so thats another issue that the front desk old white lady: Laura is uneducated and ignorant about.
White lady Laura: you have no idea the type of discrimination I’ve had to deal with as a person of color and you NEVER will since you are WHITE. Even both my adopted white parents can’t and won’t ever be able to understand since they are white, so please don’t act like you understand and (say that I’m wrong) when you are WHITE and haven’t walked in my shoes. My experience today was an example of a microaggression. For most people of color they will resonate with my experience of being made to feel less than. With most white people they will turn a blind eye and be ignorant and say it’s something else. Laura also has a tendency to laugh and chuckle at appropriate times when it’s not funny and actually serious like for example with my interaction with her today when she made the insensitive facetious comment towards me.
Sadly, I’ll be changing vets after this experience and have no choice but to take my two pups somewhere else where I will be treated like an equal and not have facetious comments thrown in my face. All I wanted was to be treated like a human being and treated just like every other white person in this world. I am waiting for Dr. Brick to call me back. Who knows if Dr Brick will, I feel like she won’t and will most likely side with her employees and lash out at me and treat me like I’m stupid like I’ve read from other Yelpers experience with her, but hey at least I can share my last interaction with them here in this review.
Sadly Dr. Bricks husband is a conservative and Trump supporter. Most likely Dr. Brick is as well. I can no longer support and give money to a business whose owner and husband support racist ex president: Trump. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dr. Brick and her husband both laugh at my review since they are both conservatives and support racist and bigots.
My original review continued since it was too long:

Even though I’ve been a long time customer here, they probably don’t care if I leave since they make enough money from all their other customers. Laura the old front desk lady sure acted like she didn’t care when she had no issue saying she would transfer all my other info over to another vet. That exactly what I’ll do. Oh and Laura promised that Dr. Brick would me back today after they close but I have received no call from Dr. Brick me it’s almost 9 pm at night. I’m not surprised, but all I wanted to do was express my concern and make a complaint but I doubt Dr. Brick will care and will just side with Laura whose her age and her employee. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. Choose your vet wisely. I’ll be happy to leave and find another vet who treats me like a human being. Read Less
