Old Towne Animal Hospital

Fair Oaks, California
General Info
Old Towne Animal Hospital in Fair Oaks provides veterinary diagnostic and preventative care services to meet the needs of today’s pet families. At the initial healthcare appointments, a lifestyle analysis is conducted along with basic laboratory tests and vaccine scheduling. The clinic assesses affected pets for early signs of illness, such as low energy levels, movement-related discomfort, and appetite changes. Behavioral analysis team uses the background information and observed behaviors to come up with suggestions regarding the measures that need to be taken to avoid possible problems. The capable personnel at Old Towne Animal Hospital oversee straightforward surgical procedures, tackle dental hygiene matters, and administer prescriptions for chronic ailments. Aid is available for skin issues and age-related deterioration as well as the frequent stomach and gut problems. Depending on what is known about the animal’s history, imaging referrals or advanced blood testing may be included in the diagnostic plan. Animals living in Fair Oaks and its surrounding neighborhoods in California come to the shelter in a wide array of health conditions. The clinic’s flexible scheduling and attention to detail when documenting ensure that the system is appropriate for both one-off sessions and ongoing care management. This method allows better continuity with fewer missing data points for slow-progressing conditions. The staff at Old Towne Animal Hospital determines and adjusts caring parameters (based on test results, changes in the home environment, and seasonal concerns), not according to fixed schedules. Clients leave the office with post-care instructions that blend the clinical and day-to-day expectations of Fair Oaks living. Throughout the various stages of pet ownership, the clinic remains a reliable health resource and an unwavering source of support. The team provides the following services: 24-hour emergency, allergy testing, anesthesiology, behavioral counseling, and bloodwork. Clients consistently commend the practice for its attention to detail and dedication to pet care. From routine checkups to complex surgeries, the clinic makes sure that your pet receives top-notch care in a serene and friendly atmosphere. Advanced diagnostics and treatment options, including boarding, cardiology, cold laser therapy, dental care, and diagnostics.

Very, very caring and knowledgeable staff but apparently one Dr thinks it's okay to charge for exams that aren't requested or even performed. I was quoted $99, before scheduling, for my cat to be euthanized (no cremation) but when the bill came around at the end of an already upsetting visit, an exam fee of $53 surprisingly was tacked on. I asked the receptionist about this and she said that some Dr.s will do this, and some won't with an exam charge (lucky me!)  and then bolted out the door as quickly as she could, The thing is though, an exam was never done... and I know this, with being in the room the whole entire time and the cat never leaving the room. I knew it was time, with her being 17 years old and she couldn't walk or eat and drink anymore. I simply wanted to end the suffering, so no exam was necessary and I never requested one.  I called the next day and asked to speak to the office manager but she was out on maternity leave; the owner would get back to me when he wasn't busy with patients. I had a feeling this would probably never happen, so after some of the shock wore off,  I wrote and sent a very carefully written email to the owner, Dr Wooden, explaining how I felt and what happened BUT..... it was not acknowledged whatsoever. Somehow this didn't surprise me but did eventually add to my dislike for the office even more, hence the review.  Very, very  sad that Dr. Putty pretty much retired...he's the only reason I decided to give this vet's office a try, even after hearing negative things (mainly scheduling issues and miscommunication with the front office) from neighbors and also my pet sitting/dog walking clients. Such a shame, with them just being a couple of blocks from my house. Like I said, though, I recommend the office for treatment but watch the charges and don't expect very copacetic communication. I must admit that I am a bit nervous and cautious when it comes to my dog because she has been with me a long time. My previous vet would not acknowledge my pets joint problems as significant, when I noticed that it was affect my pets ability to move and enjoy a normal life. I asked about medication and they told me nothing could help. I heard about Old Towne from a friend and decided to give them a shot. I could not have been more pleased. Not only was the staff kind and gentle with my pet but they were also very sweet and curtious to me. The staff alone made me feel more comfortable than my previous vet did. The vet I saw was the icing on the cake and treated me as well as my pet. They gave me a variety of options to help my pet. I asked about pain meds and they gave me options and discussed the positives and negatives of each ones. I appreciated that they were willing to explain everything to me, as opposed to just giving me the meds or just saying it was old age. I have been going to this vet for almost 4 years now and have met all three of the vets that work there. My initial pet has had a variety of surgeries and the vet has always provided the best care. I know take all three of my pets there and I would never go anywhere else. I know the quality of all of my pets lives has increased thanks to Old Towne Animal Hosiptal and their fanastic Vets and Staff. You can trust them to have your pets very best interests at heart and not to just simple try to get all the money out of you that they can. Scout (my belgian malinois) and I met Dr. Wooden because we were looking for a special vet with 'good hands' and understanding of working dogs and their sports. We needed a vet that could tattoo my dog while he was under anestesia having his teeth cleaned. Dr. did a beautiful job tattooing my boy (and on his teeth for that matter) and the staff was very good with both my neurosis as well as with Scout. I am extremely picky and have encountered only two other vets in my experiences with many dogs (as some of the hats I've worn in the 'dog world' are: a vet assistant, kennel manager, professional dog handlers assistant, & groomer) that I am happy to take my boy to for maintainence and treatment. This was our first visit to Old Towne Animal hospital after recently relocating to the area. Everyone from the person who answered the phone to the doctor were extremely kind and made us feel really comfortable and confident in the care our two kitties were receiving. The treatment recommendations were clearly explained and they showed great consideration to potential budget concerns. They have earned our business for sure! Read Less

Moved back from Portland Oregon in 2015 , called our old vet that we had for years in Citrus Heights thinking no biggie, but they were not willing to order prescription food that btw, is much needed for pet, Smudgie's long term health care . Old town however; stepped up and took it on easily with even adding auto reorder each month. Plus another pet, our older cat ,named Kat she was treated with such concern, and great care. David, the doctor aide was amazing as well. the front office staff are the best always, on phone and in person. Doctors listen, treat our pets with concern with the best out come as given each one. Yes, we are at ease with them because, they as a whole do care, and we feel at home again! Thank you so much , the Kerr family. Read Less

I am a new pet owner, and I was a little nervous about the vet experience. I was unsure of my ability to obtain the right care for my new puppy, as well as having concerns about the cost of good care. The staff at Old Towne Animal Hospital were understanding, patient, and kind, The vet tech, whom I believe was named Jason, and Dr. Phillips helped me feel at ease right away. The overall experience was great, and Maizey was so well behaved and comfortable. I feel that this was a good choice from the start, and I will be taking Maizey there for all of her medical needs. My golden retriever Wondermutt has been going to Old Towne for most of his 10 years. He is always loved and cared for by the sweet techs (Sheena, Rachel, Ross and the gang are his best friends), and Dr. Wooden is super thorough in his exams, kind and gracious in addressing concerns, and generous with his time (we've seen Dr. Phillips and Dr. Putty, and they're wonderful, too!). It's never easy on the heart to have to visit the vet, but I trust them completely with Wondermutt's care. Read Less

Dr Wooden is the best veterinarian I have ever had for any of my pets. We had another vet previously who retired, but we were very happy with Dr Wooden when we saw him instead on an emergency visit. He was very good with my dog and was very informative. My dog was very anxious and he had the magic of calming her down before examining her. She also has a rather complex problem and he explained all the testing flawlessly. I will definitely go back to him. Read Less

We just LOVED David, the technician who trimmed our dogs' nails last weekend. He was very thorough. I love that he came back and gave us a full report on how each nail was growing on each of our dogs' feet. I am definitely going to request him next time we come in. We also love Dr Wooden. We were recommended to Old Towne Animal Hospital by our dog training, Renee Miller (Albree Dog Training). We have been coming here for a long time. I feel very confident with Dr Wooden. He really know not just veterinary medicine, but he really knows dogs. I highly recommend this place. Can be a little pricey - but still fairly competitive and worth it when you love your dogs and want them to have the very best.Read Less

Many thanks Old Towne Staff Read Less
