I have read a lot of the reviews, I had to stop because the experiences are one of the same. This Vet is out for financial gain. They can care less about your pet and their wellbeing. I also have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars over nine years. I wanted my pets to be comfortable and feel at home. Well now I know why they came charging out the door when I came to pick them up. Not to mention the miss diagnosis, the under treatment of an infection that should be treated for 4-6 wks and not 7 or 14 days. They know just enough treatment to give to keep you coming back. But YOU ARE HURTING MY PET!!!! Trying to gain financially. Your facility is full of dog hair everywhere, its all on my clothes excessively everytime I'm there. Don't ask for a bath after boarding. Your dog will come home smelling like they have hoarded pigs and full of leaves in their tummy. There is one vet that I enjoyed working with, Barbaios (spelled incorrectly) she was the only one that listened to my concerns for my pet. This is sad this Vet is treating the unspoken animals in such a way. When a pet parent state they can't financially afford your service because they are outrageous. The ethical thing to do is refer them elsewhere where it is more reasonable, financial help, options, ect.. You care about the health of animals right? The most important thing should be the medical treatment that animal deserve right? This place need to be audited inside and out. This is unethical to treat your clients in this manner. I'm pissed that I did not read these reviews earlier. I tryed so many times to give them the benefit of the doubt. Until I was told by a staff worker that they are more concerned about your money than your pet here. I was told to take my pet elsewhere. I so wish this was said years ago. But very thankful for the inside information. But when she informed me what my instincts where i was angry and sad for my pet. Hopefully that young lady quit and went elsewhere to broaden her career. Great staff, they are always ready to help try to make the visit less stressful for the animals. and found really great doctors for both my dogs with individual needs. They took exceptional care of my late beloved dog who was suffering from illness and needed weekly medical attention during the last year of her life. Had to put our cat bob down and it was one of the most emotional days of my life so far. The staff did what they could to help get the costs down..but i still could not afford the treatment for him. Came down to the horrible choice to put him down. The staff gave him a relaxing shot so he wasn't in so much pain, they let me hangout with him untill i was ready to let him go. Everyone had kind words to help ease this situation and on January 10th bob left us. The vet only charged me half of what they should have and today i got a card in the mail from all the staff with very kind words. Thank you so much for making this horrible day a little bit easier. SHORT VERSION: Do NOT board with them, they will leave your animal unattended and give them terrible care for the time being send them home sick and then expect you to pay them additional money to treat them after their facilities cause the sickness. LONG VERSION: I usually board my cat with another vet, but they were doing some remodeling and my cat (Peggy) goes to VCA Sunset for her normal veterinary needs. I dropped her off last Saturday morning and they were a little slow getting her seen and didn't offer to show me the space she would be in for the next 8 days but I let it go, thinking they were capable to take care of an animal. Sunday evening I walk in to pick her up around 5:15 and I notice their store sign still says open and there are FOUR other customers there. Really???? Whatever it's fine. I just want to get my cat and go home. Well lucky for me I got to watch her get loaded into her crate, which means I got to watch where she was staying for 8 days, which was a small 3x3 metal crate 5.5-6 feet up in the air RIGHT NEXT TO ENTRANCE TO THE BACK. Which means not only was my cat unable to leave the cage she was staying in for 8 days she also had to live next to a loud door and a lot of commotion. At this point i know I won't be leaving a good review but I just want to get her home. So we get into the car and unzip her little bag and start petting her and notice she has a fever, there are a few reasons she could have a fever so I continue driving her home. We get home and I take her out and her hair is falling out like no one touched her for a week and her eyes are filled with eye sleepies that no one bothered to wipe away for 8 days. REALLY. Why did I pay you? My friends who stop in on her when I'm away do a better job. On Monday I notice she is really sick. She keeps trying to cover up her eyes from the light, she is coughing, sneezing and purring super loud. I want to wait a day until I call them and ask them about it, thinking maybe it will go away. I finally get a hold of them TODAY and they said I would need to bring and pay for an exam visit if I wanted her to be treated. I'm sorry why would I pay you to make my cat healthy when you are the ones that made my cat sick. These people are absolute crooks and I will do everything I can to let everyone I know not to come to this terrible vet/boarding facilities. These people have absolutely no idea how to care for animals are really should not be in the business. ALSO, their lobby alone is FILTHY. I would hate to see how disgusting the back is. Read Less

Do not board your pet here!!! They are ruthless on adding charges if your pet stays more than 3 days, that's when the vet checks your pet(charge) then they call you while miles away from you pet with outlandish recommendations. They said my dog was not moving stopped eating and wouldn't drink. I show up teen min. Later they want to charge me to speak with the vet that gave the diagnosis. I asked to see the dog, she was walking drinking from a bowl and ate. I wish this was the first time it happened, this is a very time event. Please don't fall for the eye cream scam. Dogs cry when the owners leave, or they don't get enough attention at your location. I put in place a plan to stop them form doing this and to save my the scare phone call away from home. However didn't stop them from trying to money grab me. I beg you to stop your pet boarding you do not have the ability to do it in a honest and caring way. I have brought my dogs here for the past five years and recently I have been really dissatisfied. I called because my little Chihuahua got stung by a bee and needed a benedryl shot and I was turned away told "to take her to emergency they were booked." Really? I've taken my dogs to Sunset many times over the years and never had complaints, however the last time i brought my dogs in for a check up I was told that one of my dogs had a heart murmur and that I better start saving my money!! She didnt say we need to change your dogs diet, put her on meds etc - very cold and rude! I don't know if it was due to the business being sold or if that Dr was having a bad day but I will never take any of my animals there again. Read Less

Have been taking my cats to Dr. Arbios for about 14 years. Dr. Arbios has 30 years of experience as a veterinarian and has always provided excellent care of our cats. I schedule all of my appointments with Dr. Arbios. If it is an emergency and Dr. Arbios is not on staff, we have to see whoever is available, but for planned appointments, I always schedule around her work hours. Vet tech, Rene Lockrem, works closely with Dr. Arbios and they make a very bad a** team! If you want the best for your pet, ask for Dr. Arbios. Oh, and their prices have always been very reasonable and less expensive than other vet hospitals. Read Less

Apparently, these people did a hostile takeover of my vet clinic (La Riviera Veterinary Clinic). After 30 years of taking my pets to them I am horrified at the fear and distrust these employees now have of their employer and customers. It's like they're working under Trump and assuming they'll be fired any day. Googling 'La Riviera Vet Clinic' yields them but doesn't have a phone number. Googling the website shows the Sunset Animal Med Center which I called, and put me on hold. After ten minutes, I gave up and went down to the La Riviera Clinic and told them about the phone number problem. At first they denied any problem, and then the elder employee braved enough to say that there were 'changes' happening to the firm. I filled my prescription and then requested a physical copy of my dogs' prescriptions so that I could fill them elsewhere. Much to my surprise, I find that I can fill these prescriptions at 30% cheaper than they are charging. I will be looking for a valid and honorable vet for my pets for any future needs, not a corporation of Trumpists! Read Less

I read many reviews on Yelp & Google, looks like Yelp's recent reviews were worse than Google's. I still decided to call and see if I can get information on their grooming services. The person who answered the phone asked did I want to speak to the groomer directly... sure... had me on hold, then I guess she transferred me... phone ringing.. after a minute or so, the same person picks up...you're still waiting for the groomer right? Yes.. puts me back on hold, transfers me, rings again until a voice mail box came on that said the mail box was full... Really..no wonder there are bad reviews.. anyway, I'll never know how the grooming is there because they don't like to answer phones to set up appts.. Nope, I won't be calling them again.. I am a very long term customer having lived in Fair Oaks since approximately 1972 and started utilizing their services as soon as we found them. Sunset Animal Medical Center has saved my animals lives many times over the years and every vet I have seen is kind, caring, compassionate and exceptionally knowledgeable about my specific breeds of dogs and cats which is an amazing plus since they have genetic differences that don't apply to the average pet. The doctors and all staff Sunset AMC work together as a team very well to provide the best care for our pets. Its amazing to be able to see a vet in the evening or on the weekend if I'm not able to leave work during the day for a non emergency visit. The staff that work every shift are all knowledgeable and kind. They care for my pets just like they were their own and I wouldn't even consider going to another hospital with my dogs and cats. My family had two older pets. One needed to be put down last year - The vet came to our home and the entire experience was very calm and peaceful.Unexpectedly, my .cat got sick in October. I was shocked that the Doctor called me to follow up on how Daisy was doing, and when she wasn't in, her staff called to follow up and answer questions. The doctor gave further suggestions and help on administering the medication. When we had to put down Daisy, they actually sent me a sympathy card signed by members of their staff. Very thoughtful. I do not recommend this vet at all. When I brought my cat in I thought I would be going to a "team hospital", but I was locked into just the one vet who origianally saw the pet. Everytime I tried to call to get advise or help I could not get help because the vet who saw my pet was not in. The vet is in 4 days out of 7, and woe is you if you need to contact them for help. I was treated like an outsider, as the one vet was the only one who would be able to help me. If I knew that they worked this way I would never have come there in the first place. Never before had I experienced this kind of service and treated this way. It is not a "team hospital" , but you have to pay another vet just to get another opinion. The vet also would not dismiss a rabie shot for my dying 17 year old cat with kidney disease, and said that he would still have to have his shots. They were Not considerate or helpful. I found them, as somebody else has noted, they are into your money and want only more money. Woe is you if you cannot afford two check ups a year with all kinds of tests, because they don t care if you are low income. They will not give advice if you haven't met their quota of office visits. I will never return again, and am sorry I ever came here. Left out in left field so many times. I have bounced from vet hospital to vet hospital in the Sacramento area for years. Some were ok some were down right horrible. I was refered to Dr Griffiths by a friend a couple of years ago. He and his staff have now saved the life of two of my pets. I can't say thank you enough. I have never meet kinder caring folks. I have had my pet there for a few years, now when I can't afford the care, they can't be bothered.- Even when she needs to be treated for the same exact same problem she always has. We have found the staff to be compassionate and helpful. Fees are discussed fully before treatment and options are offered when available. Sunset has treated my sheltie for cushing's disease for many years. We had to let him go almost two years ago. Dr. Arbios helped us make that heart wretching decision. When she administered the injection she was visibily shaken, showing that she cares. After our loss we did get a long hair dachshund from a breeder that was very ill with pneumonia & kennel cough and Dr. Capon oversaw his care, I believe with all my heart that if it wasn't for her three months of care & concern he would have died. I do believe we have dealt with all the medical staff there at one time or another and would recommend this facility.The front desk has issues, the check in and check out process leaves a lot to be desired. There has been times where my husband and I take seperate cars, so he can take the dogs (we now have two long hair dachshunds) home while I wait to check out. Read Less

I have recently moved to the area and needed a vet hospital for my 3 pets. Due to the exceptional reviews on this hospital I decided to give it a try. I was very unhappy with the service and client attention. It was like cattle, in and out as quickly as possible. No bedside manner, no smiles from the receptionist. It was like all they cared about was my money. They were reasonabily priced but they didnt take any time explaining their services or anything. I brought my cat to the Sunset Pet Hospital for a ""slight"" emergency visit. It was a Sunday and my usual cat hospital was closed. I remembered the Sunset hospital and thought I would give it a try. When I called they did not have any openings, but they advised me to come in and wait. I am so glad I did. The staff was understanding and helpful and the Dr. was great. We had a male staffordshire terrier and he began to have grand mal seizures. We called another vet and they said oh he will be alright just watch him. We did and then he had two more in a couple of weeks. We woke one morning on the 27th of November and he began to have them one right after the other. We had to go into sunset to say goodbye to this wonderful boy and be mericiful. He had severe brain damage and the vet that was on duty was Dr. Capon she is so wonderful she made all of us feel special and let us know that we were doing a loving thing for him and that he was going to a better place. We miss him but will always go to sunset vet because of the love the staff shows to everyone and we just got a new puppy and we took him there and they were great with him. Read Less
