I have taken my older fur baby there for 2 years and honestly was never really pleased with the service. The staff is nice, but think used car salesman...always a guilt tripped into spending on unnecessary follow ups and unneeded medication. It was the last straw when I took my new puppy there and they tried to sell me on every vaccine in the book even though I only wanted a few. When my puppy developed an eye condition and I went there for help they only guilted me into spending several hundreds of dollars and seeing doctors that I wasn't comfortable with. Then proceeded to stalk call me 5 times in 2 weeks to bring him in. NO THANK YOU! I have never been so happy to switch Vets in my life. Tired of being taken advantage of. Read Less

We moved to Folsom in 2009 with two Standard Poodles.  They were the love of our lives and we wanted them to have the best care possible.  At first, we traveled back and forth to our Vet in Sacramento, but eventually, we decided we'd take a chance and try the Lakeside Pet Hospital on Blue Ravine Road in Folsom.   We met with Dr. Kaplow and found him to be the most personable and kind person anyone could ever imagine.   Over the years, Dr. Kaplow and his staff have been incredible.  Soon, Dr. Sollinger joined the team and we were just as impressed with him.   One Sunday morning, Bailee was struck in the eye with a ball, so we called Dr. Kaplow and he came in on Sunday to take care of our precious girl.  There were many times when, for some reason or another, one of our sweet girls didn't quite feel up to par.  It didn't matter which doctor we met with, we were giving a thorough diagnosis and provided the necessary medicine to make them better.  His staff, Liz, Danielle, and Kathy are also wonderful people.  Both of our girls were always excited to go inside when we had to take them there.  They knew that they would be treated like royalty and would get treats, which they both loved. A couple of years ago, our sweet girl Hanna, who was 13 at the time, had to be put down.  Dr. Kaplow and Kathy came to our house so that Hanna could be in a comfortable setting.   We had Baillee two additional years, but a few days ago, we had to let her go as well.  Dr. Kaplow came to the house with Liz and they were both compassionate and loving, not only to Bailee, but also to us.  It's obvious that everyone who works at the Lakeside Pet Hospital love animals.  I can't express the love we have for this hospital.  We have been through so much over the past 15+ years with our dogs and I recommend this hospital to anyone who needs a vet.  There are other staff that I have not mentioned, but only because they usually work in the back and I have not yet had the pleasure of spending much time with them.  The few times I have met them, they were always kind and loving to our animals.  If you love your animals like we did, this is definitely the place for you to go when they need care. We found Lakeside Pet Hospital online because we are new to Folsom.  They had great reviews and offered home visits which are super important for us due to the anxiety level we know our old girl gets during hospital visits.  Dr. Sollinger and Kathy came to the house and were so amazing and are helping us through what we know is going to be a very hard time to come.  Our baby girl is 12.5 yrs old and lost a leg 2 yrs ago due to cancer.  Her strong Viking attitude has brought her/us this far after losing her leg and we know she is on her journey home.  Tuffy is Daddy's girl, Mommy's girl, loving sister and best friend to our children, loving mommy to 10 puppies, and our protector.  We know the time is coming and we didn't want to take her to a hospital where she would absolutely be traumatized.  Tuffy has always told us through her actions who are good people that can be trusted and she was very calm during the visit.   Thank you, Dr. Sollinger & Kathy for coming out and caring so much about Tuffy's quality of life that is left.  We are grateful for finding you! I don't have enough nice things to say about this veterinary office. The entire staff is so compassionate and kind. Our first few visits we met with Dr Kaplow, who was wonderful and so down to earth. You can tell he genuinely cares for his animal patients. In subsequent visits we met with Dr Sollinger, who is equally as kind and compassionate. I have used several other vets and have never had the personalized experience and kindness that I have experienced at Lakeside.  To the people who have written negative reviews regarding "over treatment"- like medicine, veterinary care is a "practice" and isn't perfect 100% of the time, just like human medicine. Its likely even harder, since the patients can't tell us whats wrong. Im certain that if you expressed concerns and followed-up with the office, they would have worked with you. Before my beautiful cat, I helped my brother with his dog (including visits to the vet). He had tried different vets, but ultimately stayed with Lakeside Pet Hospital. Per his recommendation, and my own experience, I decided to take my cat into Lakeside for her vaccinations, checkup, and so on. I was a little bit worried (I love her to death, and she means a LOT to me), but felt a lot better knowing I could trust the staff at Lakeside Pet Hospital (since I have been there a few times for my brother's dog). Compared to my experience with other veterinary hospitals (whether family dogs, helping relatives and friends, etc) I simply couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I've been to vets where the staff was cold and blunt, but at Lakeside, they're very compassionate and caring. The staff who assisted me went through with my Nora's examination, gave me an overview, and answered all my questions. They even gave me the time of the day to answer all of my questions (which I haven't always had with other establishments). All-in-all, I am very appreciative of this staff, and would highly recommend them to anyone else. If their loving and caring staff isn't reason enough, they price everything very reasonably, and won't hesitate to make sure you and your pet are accommodated for. I don't even live in Folsom anymore, but the peace of mind is well worth the thirty minute drive. Read Less

Dr. Kaplow and his staff are the most kind, informative and caring staff I have ever encountered in the 20 plus years I have owned dogs, they are straight forward in telling me what is wrong with my dogs, instead of telling me what I want to hear, His knowledge and directness is spot on, I don't know how he does it, from seeing a brand new puppy, to seeing an old guy in dire straights, I truly respect his opinion and professionalism , and his humanity for animals, he has helped me, especially in the tough decisions I've had to make and every time he was right !! That Lee Kaplow has a DVM is hideous. He's overdiagnosed...and therefore overtreated...my dog for a number of things, all in one visit! I know this because I got TWO second opinions! Also his clinic is VCA, well known here in no.cal. for cookie-cutter practice.do not go to Kaplow or to any VCA clinic -- seek out independent vets who use their own judgment about your animals. I have lived in Folsom for 20 years and have had 3 big dogs, I was never impressed by any of the Veterinarian's in Folsom until I met Dr. Lee Kaplow. Our 100lb golden Koda recently had a ear yeast and skin infection, we took him in to Dr. Kaplow's office and I was totally taken back by how much he loves and cares for animals. He treated Koda with various antibiotics and a ear ointment and shampoo and a week and half later Koda was back to his old self. We had to say goodbye to our 18-yr old cat and we really didn't want to stress her out by taking her anywhere so Lakeside staff came to our house and we put her to sleep in her favorite place in our backyard. They made the process so peaceful and explained everything to us. They didn't rush anything and were extremely friendly and supportive. I recently adopted a little chihuahua named Jelly Bean and just got done taking her to  Lakeside Pet Hospital since it was the same vet that her old fosters took her too.  I have to say it was a great experience.  Very friendly staff and absolutely no pressure at all to get additional tests and spend more of my money.  (unlike the last vet I took her too right down the street) Dr. Kaplow was professional, but also had a sense of humor. Dr Kaplow treated our beloved dog, Jack, 5 years ago. It turns out he had cancer. I felt like he was treated with love and respect by Dr Kaplow. He was very conscious of price and didn't try to push expensive tests and treatments. He was supportive and understanding when we said we only wanted to make Jack comfortable and didn't want to put him through chemo and/or radiation. Please read the reviews that are "not currently recommended" at the bottom of the page.  These better represent the real experiences of Lakeside Pet Hospital.  Dr. Kaplow misdiagnosed our dog and in fact made him worse by prescribing improper medication. When our dogs symptoms got worse, we took our Dog back in.   Dr. Kaplow then wanted to start a whole new treatment therapy that we later found out from another Vet was completely unrelated and unnecessary. Just a way to get more money out of us.  After having our Dog seen by the other Vet, he was properly diagnosed and treatment began with immediate results.  Within five days our dog was running around playing and feeling like a puppy again. Lakeside Pet Hospital is way too busy focusing on making money than they are focusing on your pets health.  I prefer to take my animals to a Vet that will take their time and make a correct diagnosis. In one of the other reviews someone explained that Dr. Kaplow hung up on her.  I had the same experience with Dr. Kaplow.  He was arguing that we were't following his directions (false) and that if we had, our Dog would be better. After trying to explain that the Dog was getting worse, he yelled into the phone and hung up.  I've never had a bad experience with a "Professional" before, it was shocking.I guess things happen for a reason, we now go to a Vet Hospital that is way more experienced and professional. I had the worst thing ever happen last night. My older dog was suffering suddenly and I didn't know what to do. I call Lakeside at 9:30 at night and left a message. Dr. Kaplow called me back within 5 minutes and decided to have me meet him at the office with my dog. He got there, got a stretcher and helped us inside. Even though he could not save him, he helped me with my decision and grief and we ended Griffen's life with less suffering and more dignity than I could hope for. We have been going to the same vet for 13 years.  While I liked the doctors, most of the staff was rude and they were very unorganized.  The place also charged an arm and a leg.  After a last visit of waiting for 30 minutes and getting rude treatment we decided to try Lakeside.  I AM SO HAPPY NOW!  I didn't know what we were missing!  Dr. Kaplow and Sanchez and both top notch.  Our vet missed a bacterial infection that our dog had for over 2 years.  They also charge us less at Lakeside and the staff is so fantastic.  I guess I just settled for bad service not knowing what was available out there.  We even found out that other vets send out for single tests on blood work and they charge $15 every time they do that.  Lakeside recommends a full panel because in the long run it is cheaper.  My dog ripped off her dew claw and I called after hours.  Dr. Kaplow called me back at 8:40pm to discuss it and had us in first thing in the am.  I LOVE THIS VET! 1/5/2012 - Dr. Kaplow is top notch. I had a guinea pig issue over Thanksgiving weekend and he fit us in and took care of us. He knew a lot about guinea pigs and did a through exam and took time to answer all of my questions. He is our vet of choice for all animals going forward. NO COMPASSION AT ALL & OVERPRICED. Dr. Kaplow treated my ill poodle, he charged me over $1200 and then within 24 hours after my dog's last treatment (on the evening of my dog's last treatment and after collecting an additional $340), he suggested my dog be put to sleep. The following day, we had to make that horrible decision to put our little buddy that we had for over 10 years to sleep. We paid for a private cremation and a ceramic paw plaque. We were told our dog's ashes and the plaque would be available to us within 3 weeks. After not hearing from Dr. Kaplow's office for over 4 weeks, I phoned their office only to find that they forgot to send my dog to the crematoriam for cremation and that my dog had been in their freezer for the entire time. Not only did they forget to send my dog out for cremation, Dr. Kaplow referred to my dog as an ""it"" stating that he thought he tagged ""it"" to go out but he guesses they forgot about ""it."" When I expressed my concern as to how he was speaking of my beloved pet, Dr. Kaplow told me to keep my voice down and then he hung up on me. Before hanging up Dr. Kaplow made sure to complain about coming in on a weekend day that he could have spent with his children instead of with my ailing dog and he also threw in that he might have been able to do more if I chose to. WOW - We took his advise on everything except an ultrasound since he said having one would not help my dog any. He had no problem VOLUNTEERING to come in on the weekend but when HE AND HIS STAFF forgot about my dog in their freezer instead of apologizing and showing empathy and compassion, he decided to complain about his coming into the office to euthanize my dog over the weekend. Then, after all of that, he would not let my friend pick up my dog for me so I could bring him somewhere else for cremation and he did not refund the money for the cremation or paw plaque. He is a fake. He acts as if he cares for elderly dogs when in fact all he cares about is how much money he can make off you and your elderly dog. Yes, he is a smart vet, good looking and has a nice office, but I would much rather take my pets to a vet that has compassion and empathy. He should have to take classes on compassion before practicing again. Read Less

I am not one to write reviews but Dr. Kaplow is awesome. He and his assistant came in at 10:30 p.m. because my puppy was very sick and not even a patient of the clinic before!! They stayed with my baby through most of the night after they had already worked a full day earlier. He thoroughly explained my options, prices were lower than what other "emergency" vets would have charged me. I did not feel like they were taking advantage of my emotions. We recently selected Lakeside Pet Hospital for our new puppy and we could not be happier with our decision. The facility is conveniently located on Blue Ravine in Folsom and is very clean. The staff is wonderful, very caring and they always remember my dog's name. They are genuinely concerned about my Yorkie and are very gentle with him.
