I had a great experience here. I woke up to my cat having some strange breathing sounds and they got me in super quickly. They took their time to cover the little details and go over all of the information with me. After we left, I was easily able to contact them with questions and they were super polite and patient. I started with Pet Vets in 2000. I left in about 2008, and have just returned back (head hung low) and so pleased to be on their team. I’ve known most of the staff for years so it’s like coming home to family. Very easy to discuss concerns, easy to get in for emergencies, staff is great and they even have a groomer working out of their office and she’s a dynamo!! I have taken all of my pets here for nearly 20 years. That has included 3 dogs and 4 cats over the years. We have had positive experiences with all the staff in the office. In the early years, Doctors Joe and Rod took great care of my pets and Dr Joe was so amazing when it was time for our Golden to go over the rainbow bridge due to cancer. He sat with us on a blanket on the floor while we held him in his last moments and offered great comfort and understanding. Dr Rod worked with me and our Russian Blue kitty who had gastric issues and we kept her alive with a good quality of life for several years with daily Pepcid.Mostly what I appreciate about all the Pet Vets is that they look at my pets holistically. They offer a number of options and allow me to choose what will work for our family. Doctors Tish and Amanda have been fantastic with my pups and Dr Barbara did several surgical procedures on my kitty to try to solve a paw issue. They all have been amazing. never, ever take your pet to this business.  that is all it is, a business!!!!! i called in an emergency to have a pet euthanized, my 9 yr old sons first pet, and this man told me to either drop it off or take it else where!!!!  when i pleaded with him to just let us come in to end the animals suffering, he refused!!  there was no compassion at all!!this man has neither a heart or a moral compass.  i would never trust the life of any animal to this man.  as a result of his heartlesness, as there was no one else close, my son watched his first pet die an agonizing death!it only takes an ounce of compassion to end suffering.  did he not learn this in vetrinary school?my son wants to be a vet when he grows up.  he's only 9, but knows he will be better than this man.shame on you!!!!! I wasn't going to leave a review at first but I decided  I'm going to go ahead and post it. I recently got a new dog decide to take him here for his necessary shots. The veterinarian was very nice helpful and inviting. The reason I decided to give them 3 stars is because after I left my dog had a large red spot on his inner thigh. I called back to see if maybe he had an allergic reaction or if maybe he hurt himself while getting his nails clipped because he hates that, but the lady on the phone was very condescending an defensive when I called to ask question and it just made me feel really uncomfortable. I was just trying to make sure my dog was ok... :/ I don't know if I want to continue his shots there. But again the veterinarian was very kind. It was just some other staff member. Read Less

Our 14 y/o Chihuahua had a tumor size of tennis ball on his shoulder. He didn't mind it, still eating well, active and hanging out with our other dogs. Took him in for estimate for removal, which was much less than previous estimate from different vet. The removal went smooth, vet called while our pet was under to ask permission to remove a broken tooth. Dr. did not pressure us to do biopsy or treatment after we declined due to pets age. I can't say enough good things about Pet Vets of Folsom and Dr. Tish Starr.  She has been caring for our babies for the past 9 years and Lord knows we have had some trying issues with the health of our Shih Tzus.  From mast cell skin cancer at the age of 2 to eye problems and skin infections.  We recently had a serious issue with one of our babies and Dr. Starr had the day off and was in Tahoe but she didn't go on with her day until she had talked to several different specialists and me multiple times to make sure everything was being addressed.  She is not only very knowledgeable and dedicated, but she is also the most compassionate, loving soul you could ask for.  It breaks my heart when my fur babies are ill but I rest easier knowing they are in the care of Dr. Tish Starr.  Thanks for all you do and all that you are.  My babies vet and also my loving friend. The vet we used to see no longer works here (we LOVED her), we felt she really listened and bonded with our dogs. Lately, I haven't felt the quality of care is up to par. I feel a little rushed and that were not being heard. Also, most of the time the receptionist sounds a little hostile, maybe this is from the stress associated from working with injured animals, however, it doesn't make me feel welcomed or comfortable. Dr. Amanda at Pet Vet's is really a wonderful, educated and caring physician.  She deeply cares about whatever your pet is going through and is very good about calling you to check in. My wife and her family have been using them for almost two decades now and I've had a personal relationship for the last eight years.  I love the new building and provides a lot of space for the staff and when I need to drop my dogs over night, they have a huge play area to the left that the girls at the register can keep a constant eye on.  The staff is very friendly and true animal lovers.  We recently had to put down a dog we've had for a few years (rescue from Sac animal shelter and she had cancer we didn't know about). Although its hard loosing a dog, they made it very easy and even followed up with us to see how we were doing.  I will continue to use this play and always recommend it to anyone I know looking for a place that will respect their animals and treat them like family. We have an older dog who started having seizures. They got us in quickly. Our dog was very uncertain about being at the vet. He froze when we got to the door. The techs helped me get him in the room. Worked with having our three girls there. The vet looked at him throughly and kept him calm. Put a treatment plan in play, without costing a fortune, and called us the next day to give us the rest of his test results and answered all of our questions. Ok, I have two reviews for this place.1) First visit.  (5 stars)My Cat had an absess. They drained it and gave an antibiotic shot. The Vet that worked on my pet was very nice. Spent about $125 out-the-door. I was happy2) Second visit. (2 stars)Cat's absess never fully went away. Now it is as large or larger than before. I called PetVets to ask what their policy was when the abess they treated 2 weeks ago never went away. At this point the representative told me it's another $35 just to be seen, then another (open charge for draining again, another open charge for culturing it and another various charge depending on what the doctor recommends. Now, I wasn't expecting that. I guess i expected, "oh, sorry to hear our treatment didn't work. Why don't you bring your cat back again, we won't charge you to be seen again, if the cat needs another drain/antibiotic we'll take care of that." Or, we'll just charge you for the antibiotic. Instead, I got the representative raising her voice at me and eventually hanging up the phone on me simply because I had the nerve to ask her how much it would be to be seen again. Now that's not what I call friendly customer service - especially since I am/was a new customer.I'm sinply relaying my experience as a new customer at PetVet. I take my bunny here to get her nails trimmed every 2-3 months. She's an old gal and they take the best care possible of her. My husband & I took our two dogs here for their third appointment here  in March.  First two visits were good but at this one we received horrible customer service and they made us feel we were an annoyance by showing up for our dogs appointment, We arrived on time and stood behing their counter for at least 10 minutes while three employees sitting there never even acknowledged us even with eye contact. Two were on the phone though. We only were acknowledged by the office cats.  Only one other customer & their dog were sitting in the waiting room. Finally a fourth employed came out from the back room and said hello to us & our dogs.  I thanked her for her acknowledgement & her excellent customer service skills.  Seconds later, the women that was not on the phone behind the desk still not making any eye contact snapped "NAME?"  I told her my dogs names along with our last name.  She snapped   NO!  I NEED YOUR NAME!  I gave her my full name and then thanked the other ( fourth)  employee again for her excellent customer service.  The snappy woman behind the desk said " DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM?"  I told her yes I have an issue with her rude customers service skills. She became even more hostile towards me but fortunately the fourth woman that came out diffused the situation.  We stayed for the dogs vet checkup which went ok but we both felt like we were treated on the cool side from the vet after the incident.  We wish we had not stayed for the appointment and we plan not to go back. After trying four Vets in the area we were left hopeless to find affordable care for our 6 month old Yorkie-Pooh. We went to Dr Amanda Pierce here at Pet Vets of Folsom and were helped immediately with our pup's issues. The whole staff was friendly and seemed passionate about helping animals. Dr. Pierce herself took an instant interest in helping our dog, and treated him like he was her own. Not just finding expensive procedures to charge us with. I may be a little biased because I work here, but the vets and staff are amazing!  I wouldn't take my babies anywhere else.  I fully trust they have my pet's best interest in mind and go above and beyond.  They are all so gentle and caring.  I have been to some vets before where they up charge for things that aren't necessary, or they make you feel bad about something that is wrong with your pet.  This doesn't happen at all here, and they truly value every client.  Dr. Joe is the most kind hearted man there is.  But all the vets are amazing here, so doesn't matter who I get :) Read Less

If I could give -1,000,000, I would. The vets may be great here, but the staff isn't. I brought my dog here Monday for the second time. They were rude the first time (both checking in and out), but I thought maybe I should try it again. BIG MISTAKE. I was cut off the minute I walked in with a rude "I'll be with you when I'm done" (with another client) when I said I was there to check my dog in. Another dog came in very ill (I hope he is okay) with diaherria. Instead of cleaning it up, they made my dog and I walk around it and the poor dog (when I said twice, I would wait until they cleaned it up). I was also chewed out over the dog supposedly urinating on his bedding the last time (which I was NEVER informed about). He is older, but he has never done that in my home or at any other boarder. That tells me they aren't walking him enough and that the dogs are left alone far too long. My dog couldn't get out of there fast enough (and I was handed a bag of blankets he had peed on).  I will NEVER take him there again. The staff I dealt with shouldn't work in an environment with animals (or people).  They treat both poorly. I got on the phone immediately yesterday morning & was referred to a wonderful place: The Local Bark. What a difference in professionalism!  If you want a place that is well-staffed, CLEAN, and extremely professional (as well as playtime all-day), I found a wonderful place: The Local Bark. Only a few dollars more. They don't charge for playtime, meds, no mandatory check-out time, and they even do training. They are their from 5:30 AM until 8:30 PM. The Owner, Mark went far beyond what is required to get my boy in. He called my vet (and even the pet store to get the number for their mobile shot clinic) to get his information so I could get him in ASAP.  This is where you should go (and I will go when I'm in town from now on). I've taken all my animals here for over 14 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr Joe was so kind when our Golden developed cancer and helped us to make the right choices. Dr Rod worked with us and our aging Russian Blue and kept her comfortable for her last few years. Dr Jessica is amazing with our Bichon's allergies and now we have our cute little Jasper who had fantastic puppy care from Dr Tish! The vet techs are all very helpful too - especially Valine!! We have been taking our cats here for about 4 years now and love this place! We usually see Dr. Winters who is super awesome! She is methodical and logical in both diagnosis and treatment and all staff we have encountered over the years truly have compassion for the animals they treat. This place does not try to "upsell" you on anything and their prices are very reasonable. One of our cats once had an unexplained rash on his mouth and another one has needed a tooth extraction and an enema (not at the same time, lol) and Pet Vets has cured all issues perfectly! (Before I went to Pet Vets) My dog's face was swollen and I took him to a vet hospital in Folsom.  During the appointment they listed a bunch of procedures, supplements and medication he needed.  The vet barely examined my dog, charged me $175 and told me to get him well it would cost nearly $1400.  I wanted a 2nd opinion so I went to Pet Vets.  What a difference!The vet did a thorough examination of my dog.  Answered all my questions and was sensitive to my desire to keep the treatment costs down to a reasonable amount.  The final bill was less than half of what the first vet was going to charge.I will be using Pet Vets again. I have been coming here for years, beginning with their location next to Wal-Mart. There have been growing pains and naturally not every experience is perfect, but all in all I love them! Consider also that it takes a bit of research to find what is wrong with your pet. This is not an exact science, and if you have a sick animal you are likely already in a very bad humor. I have tried different vets (simply because they were closer to home) and have paid much more for much less. Their prices are very reasonable when compared to other veterinary services, and I feel like the complaints about their fees here are unjustified. I have had to have several animals put down over the years, and I received no less sympathy and comfort when I had to have a pet rat put to sleep than when I have had to have a dog or a cat euthanized. Lots of different doctors, open on Saturdays, try a few different vets at this location. I promise you there is one here who will suit you.Read Less

My husband found 8 puppies someone had dumped out in the woods when he took a wrong turn. He brought them all home and Pet Vets was the only place that would help us. Called 3 days prior to my appointment to book  pet grooming.  The lady on the phone said i was good to go and that my appointment was booked.  Once i arrived 3 days later i find out my appointment was never booked and the price i was quoted for grooming was completely off and much higher.  I questioned the price at the counter but did not put up a fit.  I assumed they would do an amazing job for just a trimming my pets coat.  They said he would be ready in an hour and that i would be called/notified.                                                                 ...                            Hour went by, two hours went by, 3, 4, 5.5hrs went by before they said he was ready for pick up. "thanks for the heads up."  But close to 6hrs for an eight pound long haired cat to get his hair trimmed?  W T F.  Next,  unstated above but i requested that they use shears.  They said over the counter with their now knowingly FAKE smiles, "no problem, will do."  What do you think happened..... Yup.  They did not use shears, they used clippers.  My cats coat looked like Raggedy Ann's hair cut with a lawn mower.  They failed at everything they stated they would do.  WHOMP! Read Less

I've been going here for the past 15 years+ and have brought every single pet I've ever owned, here to Dr. Joe. All the docs here are amazing, but Dr. Joe is my absolute favorite. Even when we had 2 litters of 5 pugs each the staff were super friendly and very helpful to us. They take special care of all the animals they see. (Including the super cute house cats they have roaming around the office). I will always remember Dr. Riviera when she examined my new kitty, gave me helpful advice and sent me home with the meds she needed to get her life started. When she passed away a few weeks later from a tragic accident, I got teary eyed from the lovely condolence card the Dr. and the office staff sent me. They truly care about their patients...even the ones on 2 legs. I'm impressed with their new location, which is HUGE! and conveniently located. No longer will I have to dread the navigating the inner streets of Folsom just to bring my Pugs to the vet they grew up with.  I recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for an honest and helpful vets office who goes the extra mile for their patients. After searching online for a vet I read a review for Pet Vets of Folsom on this site that said to avoid it. I heard through word of mouth that they were good, so I went ahead and gave them a call. Not only were they able to see my dog in short notice, but the doctor and the office staff were SO FRIENDLY!! I've now taken my dog to three different vet offices, and I've never taken to her to same office more than twice because of how unimpressed I was. Pet Vets of Folsom, and Dr. Tish Starr specifically, were incredible. My dog has always reacted anxious and appearing scared at the vets. At this office she was still, she behaved, and we were out of there in a flash!! They are more than reasonably priced. In-house communication is very poor. The Vet coming on duty was not informed of our situation, leaving many questions. Communication with customer can be misleading.
