Fresno Humane Animal Services

Fresno, California
General Info
Welcome to Fresno Humane Animal Services
Fresno Humane Animal Services was founded by a group of like minded people who have been involved in animal welfare for decades. Our goal is to serve the animals and residents of Fresno County and, as of October 1, 2015 we will be providing animal control services for Fresno County. We believe in a forward thinking approach to animal control. Our focus is on education, animal reunification, adoption, and community safety. We will work every day to save as many lives as possible and to make Fresno County a place that can be looked upon as an example of what a community can do when it comes together to improve the lives of the animals in it.

Worst human interaction! People that work/volunteer need to step off their high horse and be considerate of other peoples time and obligations. Shouldn't have to fight to get my dog back, have to deal with them changing their story and keeping him from me. Looks like they pick and choose what dogs to get for themselves when they already belong to a loving home. Have already taken legal action against them to get my dog back. I will fight until I get MY dog back! Read Less

Having been there many times to donate, volunteer, and help someone with an adoption, they are polite, and knowledgeable about all the animals. Those who work there were given a shell of a building, a trailer, and a parking lot; they make due with what they have to save animals. These people do an amazing job in their attempts to reunite animals and to get them adopted when their homes do not come forward in the time that the law allows. They post live feeds daily, have a team that posts pics of dogs on their FB page. This is a major improvement from the prior party that was in charge of county animal services, which had a euthanasia rate averaging 70%. They do community outreach for vaccines and microchips, besides taking in county animals, accomplishing all of this out of a parking lot while the county board of supervisors figure out what the heck they are doing. Fresno Humane has been a God send for the county. When I think of the horrendous conditions animals had to "live" in when it was Liberty. Will never forget the outrageous distemper rates and that poor little dog we watched, via shared videos who fought such a hard battle only to die a horrible death. The people there care so much for the pets that pass through their doors. I had some of my pets there one day for chips and there was a poor little dog in the other room who was not doing well. The compassion and care that they were giving this little thing brought tears to my eyes. You could tell by the looks in their eyes and the concern that it mattered to them and they were fighting for that pup! I also know folks there who give up their homes by taking sick puppies and kittens with them to provide care out of the shelter to give them a better chance to survive. I don't know many people who do that! I look forward to the building of the new shelter so even more animals can survive and more services provided so something can be done about the ridiculous birth rates of the animals in Fresno. I adopted our wonderful sweet schnauzer/ poodle from Fresno Humane. She came in dirty, scared and was one of those horrific cases where her coat was one huge shell like mat. She also had dozens of foxtails up under her skin. The caring staff cleaned her up, got her the vet care she needed and one of them even took her home to foster until she was better. These people work tirelessly to try and fix a HUGE problem we have in Fresno. I don't even know sometimes how they keep a smile on their face each day with some of the things they see and deal with. It's a tough, heartbreaking, frustrating job, but Fresno Humane does it with grit, determination and compassion. Anyone that wants to criticize the job they do needs to go volunteer for just one day and get a taste of what they deal with, and just how well they do it. So I foster dogs for a rescue out of paso Robles. I have to say Fresno humane is amazing to deal with. Despite where they are located at since it is the county contract they are making the best of the limited resources they are given. The kennels are clean and the staff is so easy and nice to deal with. Often when I foster dogs from other shelters they come out sick and not in the best conditions with tics and kennel cough and smelling awful among other things, but Fresno humane dogs come out without tics and if they have a health condition they are being treated for it. They are truly trying to do what is best for the dogs and other animals there. They want to save every life they can.. They are showing that in the right hands the dogs of Fresno county have a future and they are educating the public on spay and neuter. Read Less

FHAS is run by some of the most amazing and caring people you will ever meet. They never hesitate to do whatever it takes, whether it be waking up at 3am to transport dogs out of the valley, bottle feeding newborn puppies and kittens at all hours of the day and night, checking Facebook and Craigslist posts to help pets find their way back home, transporting owned pets to HOPE so they can get fixed and thousands of other things. FHAS is making what we only dreamed was possible a reality- please support their efforts and thank them for all their hard work!! Read Less

Keep up the good work Fresno Humane Animal Services!Read Less

Read Less

My experience with Fresno Humane is an amazing one. What these wonderfully smart talented ladies have accomplished in such a short time is nothing short of phenomenal. They love and compassion they have is extraordinary. They have turned a sad dark terrible place into a bright and shiny happy place to be. The education that is happening IS making a difference. I volunteer for both ACT and FHAS and love every minute of it. There are tons of volunteer opportunities there. Come spend some time with the people and come love on the dogs! Read Less
