They are caring and concerned about your pet and provide great service but I agree with other posters that they are more expensive than other vets around town. $1,000 for teeth cleaning and one tooth extraction?? Im looking elsewhere for my dogs teeth cleaning needs. Also, do watch out for their price bait and switch. Make sure to read all paperwork ahead of time even if they gave you an estimate beforehand. No better place for our dog to stay while we are on vacation. We used to go to Elain's, but he would always comeback stressed and with some bad habits. Our dog maybe a little hesitant on drop off, but the difference is night and day. No more cleaning up his accidents after a stay which was a real struggle for days, but also no bad habits. I had a lovely 1st visit with kind and caring staff. I signed an estimate for my dog to be spayed for $ 386.66.. I paid the 171 for that visit and was told that the rabies vaccination would be given on day of surgery. On the morning of surgery I took my dog in and another very nice vet tech did the intake. We talked about my dog on how cute she was she had me sign two papers which I did... I did not look at the new numbers and she did not go over the forms with me. I assumed ( which was completely my fault) I didn't even think that the estimate previously would be different before the surgery and no where on the original estimate did it say additional charges may apply... so I signed. On pick up the total was $ 468.24. I asked why and the afternoon staff was rude and said "I don't know what to tell you" I retrieved my original estimate and went back in. Another even more rude tech looked at it and said as LOUD as she could "this is NOT what you signed this morning" as I tried to explain to her I will pay, I just dont understand the price difference. She just kept yelling "YOU SHOULD ALWAYS READ EVERYTHING YOU SIGN" she spoke to me as if I were uneducated and simple. I just wanted to have her or someone go over the difference in prices and explain what the extra charges were and why. Yes, I know that had I read the NEW estimate on intake I could of asked those questions... I take the blame for trusting and believing that there was no fee snuck into my new paperwork esp. When the original had a low price of $ 319.17and high price of the $386.66 plus, I was distracted by the tech and my dog, nonetheless I paid what was due. The way the staff spoke to me in front of other customers as well and the lack of respect shown and the hidden fees that were thrown into the procedure, we will NEVER return to this facility... and to boot my dog did not get the Rabies vaccination. I work in two very reputable facilities here in fresno and I had previously recommended multiple co workers to this facility. I have since then called each of them and told them my experience and each of them have decided to go with another vet.... which was my number 2 choice when I did my research mainly because of location. Just picked up my mom's dog after a 3 day stay. They lost her toys, her bed was ruined by another dog, she smells like she has been swimming in urine and they charged us every day for "play time" which lasted a total of 15 minutes. Further, my mom lost her deposit because my mom came to pick her up early even after my mom pointing out all of the issues listed above. They over-treated her for fleas rather than pulling her chart and looking (it WAS our vet as well). EXTREMELY disappointed and concerned about the care my mom's dog received while she was there. I have never left  Winston my Old English Sheep dog at any facility before. I have taken him twice to Pet Medical ctr. He is not stressed when I pick him up. It may be a bit expensive but the piece of mind that Winston is well cared for in a clean, safe facility, with air conditioning and not in a metal cage all day is worth it to me.  Winston is dog aggressive so he gets the spa treatment with a large room, a television, walks outside, play time and attention I like this facility for him very much. Update 6/9/17: I got a personal phone call from Kelly this morning offering a refund for the medications that were charged in error for $88.03. I appreciate the effort to make it right and have updated my review from 1 to 3 stars. Original Review: I have used the doggy day care, vet care and grooming services here so I'll review them all: Doggy Day Care: I only did this once because it cost me $100 for both my dogs for one day. I wanted both doggy play times and a treat for them during the day. It was a splurge and I really wanted to treat my dogs. I was nervous because I never put them in daycare but I was able to watch their play sessions from the live feed and they seemed to be having a great time. When I picked them up they were happy and had no injuries. Vet Care: I have been coming here for about 10 years because they were the vet of choice for Animal Compassion Team. That's how I heard about Pet Medial Center, I used to foster for ACT. The first few years when I would take my personal pets I was very pleased and would even tell my friends about it. If this review was based on that it might be a five star review. The last few years however, I've been overcharged for simple things and a checkup can easily end up costing $200 - $300. Highway robbery. If it is not just a checkup and your dog or cat actually needs care, a surgery or anything like that, prepare to pay $2000 - $3000 "to start with". Because the policy is to do every lab test known to man and of course to overcharge for each one. And then...the cost of the surgery. Grooming: This also costs more than other places but I was okay with that because I figured it meant they would do a better job. I'm not about to take my dog to Petsmart or chain places that have a reputation for hurting dogs. I have had maybe 4 grooming experiences here and 2 have been great and the other 2 really bad. 50% is not a good score. Several years ago, I took my dog for her annual summer groom at Pet Medical and they told me they couldn't groom her without updating her shots. That's fine but the thing is, they were updated, and the office had the paperwork. I have her on an annual schedule. At the time they said they'd changed their policy and instead of an annual bordatella, it had to be every six months. Also, the policy was that they had to do an exam as well to make sure she was in "good enough health for the vaccine" because I hadn't done an "annual physical" on my dog. Of course I would be paying for all of these services. To get my dog washed and trimmed it was going to end up costing me several hundred dollars. No thank you. I went somewhere else. And started going elsewhere for annual vaccines as well. Recently, this week, I tried the grooming service again. I guess the policy has changed because they didn't mention a regular annual exam or a 6 month bordatella vaccine. I just provided my records from the vaccine clinic which I now go to (which does what I need without adding services for waaaaayy less money. Like WAY less). My dog looked nice when I picked her up but she didn't smell like shampoo like she normally does after a groom. She didn't smell like she was washed at all. Later in the day I noticed some blood on her belly. The razor had clipped her. Upon further inspection she had a relatively large razor burn. I called right away and came in the next day (today) to have her checked out. They had told me over the phone I would not be charged. I mentioned that I was concerned that the razor burn would irritate her and/or cause infection. The vet was very nice and apologetic. She confirmed it was razor burn and said the groomer felt awful. She offered to give antibiotics and some hydrocortisone for irritation since I was concerned. Mind you this is only because of the groom job, there was nothing wrong with my dog to warrant medication before. She's incredibly healthy. When I go to check out, the bill is over $100! I had purchased some treats and shampoo for about $20 figuring I could afford it since they were not supposed to be charging me to fix the injury done to my dog during grooming. I asked to see the invoice to explain why it was so much. Apparently the (already overpriced) office visit was waived but not the medications. Not sure why 2 medications should cost $80 anyway but also, when you make a mistake and injure someone's dog, you really shouldn't charge them ANYTHING to fix your mistake. Maybe that's not "policy" but working in management and customer service for many years now myself, policy can always be changed if it is making repeat customers upset and you should go above and beyond what you normally would when you have a justifiably unhappy customer. Otherwise, you risk losing customers. The staff is usually pretty nice so it sucks to have to write such a negative review, but the policies and prices are not customer friendly here. I honestly do like this place. My dog stays here often when I go out of town and gets all of his grooming done here. However, my experience last weekend really left me upset. My dog always gets groomed on his last day being boarded. He gets his grooming and bath and is not to play in doggy day care after so he comes home all nice and clean. I spoke with the groomer the morning of and she said she was bathing him and would make sure that he did not play with other dogs. She called me once he was done with his bath and we picked him up about an hour and a half after that. Well then we pick him up, and hes playing with all the dogs! He comes out and smells like straight up pee and has slobber all over him. I try and say that they need to bathe him again and they said the groomer went home for the day.... That was extremely frustrating. They did offer me to bring him back tomorrow for a complimentary but it is a hassle to do that due to me working all day. The ONLY reason they are getting four stars is because they said next time he comes in, his bath is free. They were extremely apologetic and Jessica was helpful and professional about the matter. My dog will be returning due to the fact that they did try and make it right. I just really hope this doesn't happen again because it was a major inconvenience. Read Less

My alpha dog has bitten before is very picky about who he likes! I have used the same Vet in San Jose for 30 years and love him, but just can't get my dog to love him also! I moved to Madera and heard about this place and so grateful I did! My dog is so happy to go in there! The staff is phenomenal and their prices are out of this world! No joke...boarding my dog there for 4 days with daily peanut butter kong treatment and a groom was cheaper than one groom at my vet in San Jose...and with the bonus that my dog loves it! I took my dogs to their first appointment at Pet Medical Center and was very pleased! The staff was very friendly, especially the vet and vet tech (?). I loved that the vet tried to warm up to my dogs first before performing the examinations. I personally have never dropped my dogs off here but several years ago when my corgi and her son got out they were lucky enough to be picked up by one of the employees. I got a phone call at work to let me know that Roxie and Jack were in good hands. Since I worked in Reedley at that time I was told no problem they could stay the day. When I went to pick them up they were so happy, they had a great day visiting with everyone and playing. After that my dogs got out several times no matter what I did to dog proof the fence. I feel they were hoping they would get picked up by the same person for a day for fun and adventure. Read Less

This is a professionally staffed facility. I have brought my pet here for immediate medical needs. The vet is loving and attentive towards my dog and carefully review and recommend procedures they seek to perform. Although I ignore them, they will provide cost estimates as they go. In both cases, the vets have called the house for a follow-up on the dog's condition. The best part of all of this is that the pet feels secure and comfortable in an otherwise strange and medically stressed venue.Read Less

We've always left our furry friends with a parent or family friend. We've always found it annoying to keep calling them and checking on the pups. We've also adding a forth one so we decided to go with pet medical and day spa boarding for this last trip. Not only did they allow all four of them to be together in a room, but provided affordable play time so the dogs could have some fun. They also provided an amazing service that allowed us to view them as they sleep or play. They dogs had and amazing time and we had an even more amazing time knowing they were safe and cared for. 09/14/16 I updated my review to five stars since Kelly the Manager is dealing with the incident; with the exception of this individual. It is an exemplary place to take your loved pet. I appreciate Kelly calling my husband and speaking to him about the incident. Due to her professionalism. I'm willing to upgrade the review. I still stand firm on the fact that their receptionist needs to be terminated. But that's the responsibility of management to decide if this individual is going to cost them more good than bad. That being said; thank you Kelly for following up on this issue and I apologize for going off on your receptionist but I can't stand back and watch someone disrespect my husband and I would do it for anyone else if I knew they were being treated disrespectfully. I went in today to board my dog in the VIP $39 a day Suite. To my surprise he was walked passed the door that lead to that area and taken to the kennel area. When I inquired why, I was told he will be placed in a Suite in the back but the ones with the web cameras were booked. Now I was given a tour months ago, when I used them before, there is no Suites in the rear . Oh yeah; the reservation were made weeks in advance. BE AWARE and make sure you get what you are paying for.  She gets paid to make her response, I don't. I just want consumers to be advised. When I  call and ask for a certain service and prices are quoted , I can only go by what I am being told. I am so disappointed to write this one star review.  I have been taking my little dog up to this facility for several months for doggie daycare.  My dog seemed to enjoy it, and I appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of their front office staff.  I adopted a new rescue dog last week and was informed that they were no longer taking new doggies into day care, not even brothers or sisters of existing clients.  Nor did they indicate any interest in a first come first served reservation system for their day care.  Currently existing customers just show up without a reservation (which is nice, but how do they know how busy they will be on any given day).  I had prepaid with their multi-visit punch card and I have been promised a refund so hopefully that will come.  It is just unfortunate that they couldn't #1 communicate this new policy to existing client better, #2 come up with a more accommodating system (such as a reservation system) to adjust daily to the ebb and flow of the day care attendance, and #3 maybe talk to their existing customers about the situation and get their feedback on the current challenges.  I won't be going back, so that open up one more "spot" for a small dog.  If you are looking for doggie daycare...this place is not for you. I recently adopted a dog and the pet medical center was the first place we went for her first vet check up. The staff is so warm and inviting towards both pet owners and pets! My dog can be cautious and nervous around people but she instantly loved the staff and could not stop wagging her tail. They made sure that we received quality care and that I had all the best information in regards to the health of my pet for fleas, ticks, and heart worm. My dog has also attended the dog day care twice now and LOVED it. All my past pets have been so anxious at the vet, not that I blame them, who loves going to the doctor?? But my pet loves going into the pet medical center! She's fast asleep at my feet right now after a fun day of friends and play! Read Less

We started coming here for an issue with one of our cats about six years ago. They took such amazing care of him that we've never been to another vet since. Every single staff member here has been so patient, and kind, and loving with our animals, as well as considerate and helpful to us. They understand, in ways that we've never experienced from another vets office, that our pets are part of our family - our babies - and they always treat them as such. Do not board your pet here!!! After boarding my boxer puppy here she lost so much weight! They don't really play with your pet like they state they will on their website. They let my puppy out with other dogs (I watched on the video monitor) and let the male dogs ride her!! She was not spayed and they didn't even try to stop the situation. After seeing this on the video I called them, they put her back in her pen and never played with her after the incident. They put her coat in her pen(NOT OH HER) to sleep with like a blanket! I am a very picky pet owner and have been through a good 6-7 locas vets for the care and concern of my very precious pets: 4 min pins and  2 cats.  My dogs are 13, 11 and 8. My 11 year old is my particular favorite and has been under the weather.  Since my daughter recommended Dr Dumars and her team, I decided to give them a try, despite being kind of far from home. I AM SO HAPPY I DID!   Dr. Johnston was prompt, friendly, and did the most thorough exam I have EVER seen on a pet.  Stem to stern, eyes, ears, feet, internals, and a rectal exam!  She was very caring, loving, gentle but firm and professional.  The vet tech was Bethany and she was the same!  Friendly, gentle, caring, professional.So far (that said becausse I have been so disappointed in the past), I am super happy and, better yet, super confident that my babies will get super care. I gave 4 stars because I think they are just a tad pricey, but, on the other hand, the $57 office visit included a toe nail clip and an anal gland clean out, plus the best exam ever.  On 2nd thought, I'm changing that 4 to a 5. I really like this facility. I am a travel nurse and it is hard to find good Vet services in the different cities where I am assigned to work. The staff are friendly and enjoy the animals in their care. I find them reasonable for the excellent care given. The vet services here are pricey. That's the main reason we don't come here for that usually. On the occasios we have taken pets in for med/vet services, the staff was prefessional and we felt we got all questions answered. They don't push services on you, but we have opted out of some recommended services just because of the price. Compared to kennels we've used before, the boarding costs more, but we feel like we are definitely getting our money's worth in the case of boarding. We use the VIP services so we can watch the doggies on our cell phones when we are away. There have been a vew bumps along the road, like not following instructions given regarding blankies for dogs dropped off and requiring a 30 minute interview with a tech regarding meds, food, etc. even though we put the same dogs there with the same instructions four months in a row. However, I have to say that once I brought issues like this up, they were addressed to our satisfaction. This time areound I dropped the dogs off with a printed list of meds and times given and it was a snap. I like the responsiveness to our needs. We have been satisfied with the vet services provided by Dr Johnson and the boarding overall. We get the dogs groomed on the last day of their stay. That seems to be hit n miss, but this last time was spot on! We recommend Pet Medical Center and Spa if you aren't on a budget.Read Less

I moved here two years ago and had two elderly dogs and had no idea where to go. Thankfully, i decided to try PMC. I could not have asked for better care. Since then they have cared for 4 of my dogs. They are very state of the art, very good, my experience is that they care and take their time. I have dogs that have complex issues and would probably have had to put them to sleep. They are caring, friendly and just very knowledgeable and have specialist's available.. It may seem like it is more expensive but believe me, they are not,specialist availablility actually save you money in the long run because you don't go in circles. I have never once worried that my pets were not in the best care. Not only are their veterinary services wonderful, their boarding and day care is amazing, definitely above and beyond anything i have experienced. In the past my dogs would never have been boarded because of a awful experience but i have felt comfortable leaving them at pet medical center and would highly recommend them to anyone. As an avid pet lover over the years I've been to several different Vets. Today I decided to take my 2 cats to Pet Medical Center & Spa. The staff was very friendly and attentive to my cats (Piglet & Freckles) and Dr. DuMars was very knowledgeable and took the time to examine my pets. I will never go to any other Vet. Placed my dog to board with them for 1 week having never used them before and we were VERY happy!The staff was very friendly and professional. The kennel area was very clean. Yes, the hospital is high end and state of the art and it seemed like the care my cat would need was going to be expensive, but they worked with what I had and were able to help treat my pet without making me feel my finances would jeoparidize my Samantha's care. There was only one daycare girl to a group of 30+ dogs. She was mostly busy talking to the other girl on the other side of the room who was performing a water exercise on a dog. The daycare girl also did not have control of all the dogs because numerous fights broke out and she was not there to stop the escalation. And since the ratio of dogs to human was soooo high she did not even notice the fights. I took my dog out of the daycare ASAP and advised them that they need to have more then just one person to a group of 30+ (mostly large) dogs.
