We've been to this hospital before and never had problems until this visit. Then again, it was a first time for an emergency case with a different doctor. The doctor we typically see was away. My parents brought in our family dog who was vomiting, difficulty eating, and trouble breathing. Dr Antoun found he had an enlarged heart with built up fluid and prescribed two medications to help drain excess fluid. The next day, our dog was getting worse, not drinking water or eating. He had taken medication twice at this point. I called in around 9:50am to ask what is the best way to proceed or help him. Doctor was busy so receptionist let me know he would call back to leave a message. Our dog passed away at 2:04pm. Doctor returns my call at 5:39pm. I let him know our dog had passed and he apologizes for our loss and explains the situation with our dog and for not being able to get back to me in time. I tell him I understand. There are other sick pets, what could he do? I'm already grieving at this point so I accept everything. This is when I can't take it anymore. Later that evening, I look at the prescribed medication and one is a month expired. Fine, that can happen. I look at the second and it's a year and a half expired!! Our dog was not improving and we had no unrealistic expectations that he would get better so soon, but to see this was VERY DISTURBING. I called back and they say they'll refund the prescription. They explained that the medication should still work even though it's expired and it's just recommendations. I ask if it effects the strength of the medication and she says it's possible. She sounds stern and unapologetic. I told them to be more aware and careful next time as it's something that can be the death and life of a beloved pet. I have no energy to fight on about it because I'm so sad but unfortunately this happened. My parents were really upset and preferred their original doctor believing he has more experience. Not sure who is in charge of checking medication expiration but If you come here, BE SURE to CHECK all dates and research and ask questions about your options and best care for your pet. My parents didn't know what to do in this situation and we couldn't get a hold of anyone soon enough. Glad our friend passed on in peace. RIP Charlie.2 stars because we didn't have issues before.
