After my visit, I'm wondering if David Brooks really enjoys working with animals. Just a minute or two of talking with my dog before rushing into an exam would have been appreciated.  I was glad, the office was able to fit me in at short notice, however, my experience with the vet was so unpleasant, I do not plan to go back. If you don't mind a vet with a bad "bedside manner" and you never ask any questions, then perhaps you will be ok. IF you have a larger dog who doesn't mind a less then gentle touch, that would be beneficial  too.  The office staff was helpful;, although, they forgot to tell me not to feed my dog food prior to a procedure which required sedation. My dogs nail trim while sedated was also forgotten. I received different information from Dr Brooks then that received from his staff regarding how soon to feed my dog after the procedure and also how the IV insertion had gone. IF you love your dog and want to feel comfortable leaving your dog in your vets care, don't go to this place. Read Less

I couldn't agree more with the other reviews about just how boorish and ill-mannered David Brooks is! I'm glad to know my situation was not unique and that he is a pretentious egomaniac.I brought my girl in for an ear infection. She has been in the office before and had seen Dr. Nichole who handled her just fine. Even when my girl was hesitant and lifted her lip, Nichole was calm and patient and took her time to let my girl calm down and acclimate before she started checking her out and was even able to give her a vaccination.David however walks in and my girl who is a Dutch shepherd, immediately felt threatened. She started to bark intensely and all David could say was "that is inappropriate." What? You're a vet and you've never seen an aggressive dog? No apparently in his "20 years of being a vet" he's never dealt with a dog that may have fear or anger issues. Genius.I told him his attitude wasn't necessary and I didn't appreciate him making me feel like there was something wrong with my dog. The hostility between us was obvious and my girl could sense it.I muzzle her and attempt to hold her when he comes over to check her ear. Well that lasted about two seconds before she was able to remove the muzzle and lunge and him. He said the appt was over and ran out. She didn't break skin or make contact, and I felt horrible and had a panic attack in the treatment room. They gave me a broad antibiotic for her ear which I appreciated, but he didn't bother to come out of his office to talk to me after I put my girl back in the car. All he did was write the name of a dog trainer for behavioral issues on a piece of paper and banned my girl from coming back. I've never had a vet treat me so poorly in my life and other vets have handled my girl without this drama. It's obvious his energy and demeanor was not only threatening but contemptuous. I spoke with other vets who said that David's behavior is exactly what gives the vet community a bad name and that if he were truly a good vet, he would have gone about this differently. I brought her to another vet and no surprise that the experience was different, my girl didn't feel threatened and was able to be examined. I told the vet about my experience with David and laughed, saying the guy is in the wrong profession. I couldn't agree more.I really like Nichole but unfortunately you don't get to choose who you see when you go to this clinic. I would choose another vet unless you are sure you can see Megan only. My Mister Magoo runs to the door to go in; instead of cowering at the door.  He's a welcome patient, that's for sure.  He has been having gastro issues since the weekend.  He spent 30 hours in one of the Santa Rosa Emergency clinics to the tune of $1500; was x-rayed, medicated, IV'd, etc., and then discharged.  What he didn't have done, even though I indicated that he might have swallowed my grandson's sock, was have a barium! Dr. David and I talked first thing on his release; and come to find out, he's in surgery with Dr. D right now for removal of a "foreign" object.  The emergency care folks led me to believe all was good, go take his meds and see you later.  Dr. D was so much more hands on and caring.  Both dogs will be long time patients! Wish I could vote ZERO stars for David Brooks- a vet with an arrogant and insensitive attitude and ZERO compassion for the cat he neutered for us yesterday.  My friend Maggie, a respected dog walker/sitter in Sonoma, and I have been feeding a feral cat colony at Glen Ellen Market for the past year.  We have trapped kittens there twice and got them to Pets Lifeline for spaying/neutering and adoption.  While I was busy trapping  another litter of kittens yesterday, Maggie took the adult cat we had also trapped to Glen Ellen Vet hospital.  (I had tried several other vets that I usually work with but no one could take the cat right away and we were afraid it would harm himself in the cage).  Maggie said that Dr. Brooks first question was whether it was a male or female because that would make a difference in price.  What the ?!  How would we know what the gender of a trapped cat was?  Anyway he rattled off costs, said he wouldn't keep the cat overnight, lectured her about feeding feral cats and spreading diseases and told her to come back in a few hours.  She left rattled and called me and said that he was an a--hole and she wasn't comfortable going back in his office so I said that I would pick up the cat and keep in overnight. When I went back to his office to get the cat (2 hours after we dropped it off) I had a large crate to put the cat in so that it could recoup from the operation.  When Brooks saw the crate he said the only way to transfer the cat from the small crate he had put it in was to "dump" it into the larger one.  I thought the cat would still be sedated but he said no- he had used gas and the cat was alert.  He turned the large crate on its side- spilling the kitty litter and food I had set up- took it in the back and apparently dumped the cat in it.  During this process he said  "I don't care when you let the cat go. You can let it go right now."  What?!  I have been trapping cats for 5 year's since moving to Sonoma and no vet has ever said let the cat go hours after surgery!  When I told him that I cared and knew that the cat should rest he really got an attitude and told me he spayed and neutered feral cats all the time "20 and more at a time- we turn em and burn em!" (a direct quote).  So I already thought he was an insensitive jerk and THEN I GOT THE BILL!  He charged $219 to neuter a young male cat.  When I saw the bill I told him that it was more than triple the cost of other vets in the area. I appealed to the fact that we were doing a community service- that the feral cat colony was across the street from his office and we were helping to control that situation by removing kittens and spaying the adults.  He said what I SHOULD be doing was calling Animal Control to come and get them.  I asked if he meant that the cats should be euthanized?  Because Animal Control doesn't trap feral cats, spay/neuter and re-release them.  Volunteers like Maggie and I do that.  How could a vet not know that?   It became clear quickly that he was not going to adjust his bill-- he said he had a business to run and employees to pay and what did I expect- free service from him??  I said something to the effect that I understood why he was getting bad reviews and that I was going to write one too (and I never write negative reviews- but this is for the animals!)  So I payed the bill, picked up the large crate with the cat in it to leave the office and asked his office person for help.  She opened the door for me and Dr. Brooks, apparently concerned about my writing a bad review,  followed me all the way to my car while aggressively trying to justify his prices and his practice and his attitude. CREEPY!  Of course he isn't the kind of man who would ask if I needed help carrying the large crate or getting it into my car.  The cat is still recovering at my home and I see that Brooks didn't clip the ear which is standard practice before releasing a neutered cat back into nature.  He also didn't put any flea meds on the cat OR take any blood work to see if the cat had FEV or any other disease-- which is weird since he lectured both Maggie and I about how rampant disease is in feral cat colonies.  I hate to affect people's businesses with bad reviews but I would never take my pets or feral cats to this office again and believe that people need to be warned.  If you work with feral cats there are many compassionate vets in Sonoma that will  neuter and spay for MUCH less that this.  Pet's Lifeline will take kittens for free and spay/neuter adult cats for $30!What a mistake going to this guy.... never again.
