Took my puppy for a follow up visit due to some bacterial infection on his back and was seen by Dr. Woods. She suggested to get some lab work but never mentioned how expensive this procedure was going to be. Of course i felt upset once it was time to settle the bill. My blue nose pup received a cortisone injection that was supposed to help with the infection but so far it hasn't cleared up his back so i called again and after playing tag with the Doc over the phone she suggested i come in so we can decide on a new treatment. I hope this works so I'm holding out on how efficient and trustworthy these guys are. Read Less

The vet (I’m sorry I forget his name), who did the preliminary examination before the procedure was kind, informative and reassuring that we were making the right decision for Snoopy. I will never forget the support we received from some of your technicians/ assistants during this difficult time. **************ATTENTION***************The level of judgement in prioritizing & intervening the needs of animals are lacking in this facility. Not knowledgeable & skilled to perform their duties. Our beloved dog for 12 years died in painful death due to NEGLIGENCE. The hardest part as a pet owner who has felt the horrendous pain of seeing a pet suffer as a result of INCOMPETENT ACTIONS OF THE VETERINARIAN. My 79 y/o mother was still distraught over our dog's death. Their strong bond relationships ended unexpectedly. There's a hole in our hearts never heals & we relive with pain always. There's not one day in our lives that we don't think our treasured dog that we know we should still be with us at to this day if things had gone right. Read Less

I wish I would have hopped on yelp and read the comments before taking my poor dog into the care of Dr. Jimerson. My dog started yelling last week on Thursday he started limping and i was confused because it happened out of nowhere. He started to get worse and by the end of the day he was shaking. The next day he hardly moved from one spot and I let my fiancé know that we needed to take him to the vet. I found out about this place through a friend but like i said i wish i had done my research first. My fiancé took him in after he got off work and when he came back home he told me that Jimerson said that he might have arthritis or he might have something wrong with his patela and said that he wouldnt know unless he took some xrays and he would have to anesthetize him and keep him overnight. Im pretty sure they charge a boarding fee if you allow for them to keep your pet so instead he sent him home with a pain med, a muscle relaxer, and anti-biotic for his ear infection. We kept a close eye on him throughout the night and he would feel a little better after his meds but still wouldnt move much and the trembling persisted. We waited almost a week to take him back for a few reasons some being monetary as well as jamm packed schedules as new parents. When we went back on Wednesday, oh dear.. he made sure to talk down on us every chance he got for waiting so long to bring him back and said "we're gonna have to keep him overnight." I asked him if he would charge us for that and he looked at me in disbelief and said "it's not about the money". Now before yall judge me like Dr. J did, money is not more important than my pet but we have a baby and expenses and we're not lugging around a sack of extra cash to be spent on misdiagnoses. My dog's wellbeing is priceless to us and I did not need him to make me feel like a bad dog parent for also worrying about monetary aspects. Anyway, he decided not to use anesthesia but an alternative method of an aquarium with gas to tranquelize him but still kept him overnight for reasons I do not understand. Perhaps to give my pet more injections and charge us an arm and a leg. He did not charge for boarding as he had said but I hated being away from my sick pup. the next day when i picked him up i waited an hour and a half with my baby daughter just to pick him up. The doctor of course wanted to talk to me, and he tried to prescribe another pain killer and antibiotic...SERIOUSLY?? Is it too much work to look at his chart and realize that he already prescribed these medications or is he knowingly trying to upsell?? Makes me wonder why he didnt diagnose him right the first time instead of playing guess games and prescribing a useless muscle relaxer. Guess what was wrong with my dog? according to Dr. Jimerson he was constipated LOL when we took him in the first time Dr said he was not constipated and it took some xrays and $600+ to diagnose him with constipation. oh and no he didnt have arthritis or anything wrong with his patela per Dr J.My dog is still limping and we have no intention of ever going back to this place. All cat lives matter!I brought my stray cat, our neighborhood's stray cat, here a week ago. It was a pleasant surprise that my kitty-cat was equally important as the other animals that had an owner - not all vets take stray animals. First-come, first-served applied to strays as well. In order to perform the exam the cat needed to be sedated (he was not happy that I tricked him into that trap), and Dr. Jimerson called me a an hour later to confirm that it was indeed an eye injury, possibly due to a cat fight, and not an internal infection. While at the hospital Dr. Jimerson discussed with me what needed to be done and I was given the choice to decide the treatment - like choosing the shots instead of eye drops cause there was no way this cat wold let me treat his eye with some eye drops for 2 weeks. There were no surprises when it came to charges - exam, sedation (necessary), steroid shot and antibiotic shot (my own choice), overnight stay (I was there around the time they were closing and didn't wanna come early next morning). I called couple other places before I decided which one to go to and they either charged more and even double just for the exam, some had blood work as standard procedure (it was required), other vets had other requirements. Comparing what others quoted me, the cost at Gateway Animal Hospital turned out to be less than I would be paying at those other places. Now this is my experience and applies to my stray kitty that is not insured. I new it would cost and if I wanted to save that money I would've never bothered to bring the cat in the first place, but I would've also have to live with "worst case" consequences. Now, a week later, the eye looks brand new! If looks could kill - literally. The stare and hissing that cat gives me now - PRICELESS and damn worth it!/Sir Meows-a-Lot Read Less

Overpriced! I took a new kitten in for diarrhea. They gave me a break down of costs for bloodwork, (2) anti-diarrhea meds, hydration, stool sample, antibiotic & office visit for close to $300 and that was just for one kitten, as I have another one at home that has also come down with diarrhea. I paid the office visit and purchased the antibiotic. Since then I've taken them to another vet in Echo Park and it was a total of $141 for both kittens, antibiotic, probiotic and stool sample test. They said the kittens looked healthy so they didn't feel they needed to run a bunch of tests other than the stool sample analysis. I would think you could start with the stool analysis and go from there. I will never go back to this place as I think its a rip-off.The front office was very nice but I would not ever go back to this place. Read Less

Dr. Jimmerson is horrible with animals. He wanted to tranquilize my dog to examine him because he was being squirmy. He tried to take him to the back and said he was aggressive and tried to bite him. My dog has never bitten any vet or the people who clean his ears and trim his nails. He then went on to tell me I need to take him to obedience school and how I should be able to calm him down on command without saying a word. It was super rude. My dog is a 20 pound beagle not a dangerous animal. Also, he barely turned 1. As a doctor who works with animals on a daily basis, he should know how to work with a dog that is nervous and scared. Tranquilizing a dog is extremely inhumane and shouldn't be an option for a check up. Besides that, everyone was super nice! Read Less

Avoid at all costs ... unless you want the most impersonal arbitrarily priced inconsistent piss-poor treatment possible for your beloved pet. From the Stepford-like young women who run the front desk to the mixed bag of doctors who staff this shoddy place you can't help but feel bad about being there and most importantly bringing your pet there. I don't know why I have been going there for nearly six years because in all that time I was never made to feel welcome or secure ... two things so vital when it comes to seeking good care for your pet. And today when I finally started to verbalize my feelings to the staff Dr. Villacana (sp?), who I had never met before, happens to walk out and overhear me and without even asking for an explanation immediately snarls at me and tells me to go find myself another vet. How incredibly warm and reassuring. And he is old enough to know so much better. Not "I'm sorry you feel that way," or "How can we do better?" but "We don't want your money if you're going to question the way in which we steal it out of your pocket." I could go on and on about all the bad experiences I have had at this so-called "animal hospital" over the years but I can sum it up best by saying that for the most part the doctors are more like contractors, less interested in providing thoughtful cost-conscious care for your pet than in landing the biggest job possible. On my last visit as I was asking Dr. Jorge Ruiz questions about my dog he literally started walking out of the room and with one foot out of the examining room door said, "The girls are waiting for your payment up front," never even explaining what I would be charged for or bothering to mention that I was to bring back my dog in two and a half weeks for an important follow-up treatment. I know, I know: I said I wasn't going to go on and on... I am so done. Read Less

Not only did she love coming in for a ""spa"" day, she was comfortable and happy to be at Gateway. In particular, Valerie was always wonderful. Although we miss Gracie very much, we know we are very fortunate to have her as a part of our family, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for loving her (almost) as much as we did. Read Less

Read Less

Over the last 30+ years, I've been bringing my dogs here. Over this period of time, I've worked in Glendale and my dogs have been seen by several of their staff members. Most recently, Dr. Polanco has been our doctor and has taken excellent care of my dog, Jill. This past week has been very difficult as I made the decision to put down our beloved Jill following months of failing health and increasing age. Their medical staff and fast office have always been very helpful and for that I am deeply grateful. Read Less

I've recommended this place to a friend and she got wonderful service. It's by far cheaper than other Vet places. But the service they've done is great. I keep going back!

I have been going to this place for years! Dr, Jimerson (or Dr. J) rocks and always takes great care of my dog, Dinah Washington. He takes the time to explain things, never makes us do procedures that are not needed and/or too costly, and he truly cares about my dog. My dog is 15 and I am always impressed at the care she receives. I also think Gateway is reasonably priced, well as far as vets go. I recently used their grooming dept., since my groomer got fired from Petco--and, I have to say I was impressed. Dinah wasn't happy about her Halloween-themed bows in her hair and bandana, though. They were about $30 as opposed to the $46 Petco tried to start charging me. The groomer is good with old dogs and patient Read Less

Dear Dr. Jimerson and staff, We cannot thank you enough for your loving, consistant, and compassionate care of Gracie. Our sincere thanks for your care. Read Less
