My local Vet told me my 7-year-old German Shepherds limping was due to arthritis. I did not agree with his diagnosis and made an appointment with Dr. Morshead because he is also a specialist in orthopedics. I met with Dr. Morshead in the morning. He listened to me & then examined my Shepherd. He suggested an x-ray of the area of concern (the shoulder); if nothing were found, he would x-ray additional areas of the rest of the leg for the cause of the limping. I was given a written estimate of the costs and my bill was lower than expected and estimated. I think he already knew the answer and just needed the x-ray to confirm the bad news. I returned 5 hours later and met with Dr. Morshead. He gave me the bad news. My Shepherd had bone cancer, which he showed me on the x-ray. He explained the costly options. He explained from his experience that the cancer had probably already spread and would be costly to fight. His recommendation was to spare my Shepherd the pain and suffering of removing the leg and just control the pain with medication, until it was time… He was very knowledgeable regarding the alternatives. Dr. Morshead was extremely patient, knowledgeable, helpful, and a very kind man… I know he gave me the best advice possible. If I lived close to Chatsworth, he would be my regular vet. This is our second family pet (dogs) in 11 years. We've adopted 2 senior dogs from the shelter and both had medical issues. The staff always shows tender loving care to our pets and most especially Dr.Shrina, who is just a loving Vet to both our Stevie who is now passed on and our new love Toby, who feels so comfortable walking into a doctor's office :). With our pets medical issues, all aspects of their illnesses have always been explained in depth so we can understand how to love and care for them. I have always gotten the best of care from the vets here. They are compassionate to my animals. My Kitty had been treated poorly at another vet and was terrified to go to the vet. The doctors were so kind and gentle to her and really did a great job with her. She gets better every visit. My dog Wyatt loved to go to the vet. He loved how all the techs would love all over him, and when it came time to cross the rainbow bridge they did and excellent job of making it easier for me. Prices are fair. This is my second experience here. I heard good things before and was referred by my vet today for a second time (different animals) . First experience was decent or average. Today I called to make an appointment as I found out today this animal has a broken hip. While asking a couple questions I was abruptly put on hold ( no problem....Maybe an emergency walked in) a couple minutes later another person picked up and i was told the person helping me walked away and said to tell me to bring my animal in during the consultation even though I had xrays. Ok no problem but then they told me if I had any other questions the other person would call me back.....hmmmm. How bout an appointment????? I was told My animal needs surgery??? Never got that call. I first started going to Chatoak in 1970 with my first dog... almost 50 years. They have taken care of 5 of my dogs and 10 puppies from one of my dogs. I have no complaints but they are expensive these days. I will say they do try to work with you if you are struggling with the costs. That has helped in recent times when cash was tight and my dog needed some testing done. They are great with emergencies and have saved my dogs life more than once over the years. Highly recommended. My dog was attacked by another dog, I didn't know what to do or where to go. I was referred here by my regular vet, and was I glad! They calmed me down, took great care of my dog and were very thorough in their evaluation and explanation of her care. 5 days after I got her home they called to check on her and make sure that she was doing well. I took my cat here because he was in terrible conditions. They charged me a lot without knowing what was wrong with him. The doctor told me he would get better in two days but that wasn't true. In my experience, the staff here has always been pretty friendly. These are people that certainly do care about the animals that enter their facility, so you can trust that they'll be cared for if you bring them in. However, they're very costly! It's near impossible to not go broke after even a short visit, but if you can afford the extreme prices, I'd say they're worth it. I have been taking my senior chihuahua since 2 years ago, everything was fine until yesterday, they charged me the double for a follow up visit and when I asked them why, nobody knows anything. I believe they should specify and explain why we must pay more, It is my money and I need to know the details. Dr. Lynn Ekwood did not even touch her this time and previously her temperature and assess her right eye, telling me to do an unnecessary and expensive test when I know my dog will need this medication for the rest of her life. She seemed to be not interested in my dog. Chatoak-Pet medical center was highly recommended by a trusted friend in my community. From the first visit to my most recent, I have felt very happy with the care my Bluebell(rescue chihuahua mix) has received. Staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. Dr. Belding and Dr.Jackson have always been so incredible. They are kind, educated, and understanding. They really do care, listen and are always open to hearing any questions or concerns about Bluebell. I completely trust Dr.Belding and Dr. Jackson. I would absolutely recommend Chatoak pet medical center to anyone who is looking for a Vet they can feel comfortable with. Yes, I actually drive at least 30 minutes each way to get to the clinic, but when it comes to Bluebell, I will do it gladly.
