Honest, straightforward, no nonsense and at the end of the day, both pragmatic and compassionate. While some vets (unnamed) may give you false hope just to sell you more lab work, she is a straight shooter and lets you know so you can make good decisions. Our little old guy was struggling so.mch; her realistic honesty helped us do what was best for him and not their bottom line. She also reassured my husband that we had done all we could (and we had); no way to do more without making the sweet boy suffer for no purpose. I would advise anyone planning on using this clinic not to. My cat is dead now and I really don't think she would be if I had taken her elsewhere. I've been coming to Bay Cities for almost a year with my first dog. I'm not happy with their treatment with her, last visit she was so scared she peed on the table and was dragged through her pee to give her the medicine she needed. She was obviously scared and someone skilled or who cared would've taken the time to comfort her, instead of being forceful. Nobody offered to help clean her up or apologized for being so rough, she had pee soaked in her back legs and her private area. Also, I bought a flea pill that was supposed to last at least a month that didn't work at all. They had my number on file for another customer, wouldn't answer my questions I had about the mix up and for these experiences I'll be going to another vet. There.  She was caring and wasn't trying to bilk me for money.  My dog usually doesn't like strangers but he didn't even growl with them.  I did have his muzzle on but that usually doesn't stop him from growling. I was asked not to come back into Bay City's ever again and take my dog because I wrote a bad review on Yelp showing due respect I haven't taken my dog back and I'm very thankful that I have not this is why I am writing you up once again I found another vet and every 30 days I take my dog in to make sure that hurt gland is not swollen and needs to be drain come to find out I've been there 2 times in a row and she did not need to have any type of squeeze or removal of fluids when I took her to East Bay veterinarian clinic every 30 days I would be charged $30 and they say that she was full or not full come to find out that I was being taken I'm only writing this because I was told number one she did not like what I wrote on Yelp instead of any type of an apology or trying to recognize there was a problem or anything of that nature she just told me not to come in that's wonderful customer relations but now that I know the dishonesty and the way I was treated I had to write this speaking with my new Vette he just explain to me that all veterinarians are different I have to support him because he did not agree with one way or another who was right and who was wrong with shows he's a very professional my suggestion is if you're looking for a vet that you feel comfortable with stay with him I do not recommend East Bay veterinarian clinic Read Less

Six weeks ago, I took my dog to this vet who showed me an x-ray of two broken toes.She put a cast on his leg and said to bring him in every two weeks for a new cast.Two weeks ago, the 3rd changed, he was obviously in distress and I took him back. The vet said she had changed the cast again, but had found nothing wrong.He was no longer crying constantly, but he refused to put any weight on the cast.Today, when I took him in for another x-ray, she found his leg completely infected. He had a cut that had to be stitched and us now on meds for pain and infection. He is also forced to wear a neck collar.The vet claimed that I must have caused the cut, she refused to discuss it with me saying that I still had to pay.I am now waiting for an SPCA ortho specialist to examine the records and give me his or her opinion. Me and my pup love this place. When we walk in they know us by name and it is sometimes the simple things that mean so much. They are all personable and attentive to both me and my pooch. I went here because my family used to take my dog here when I was really little. I used to take my current dog to the Oakland SPCA clinic but didn't feel like they were always rushing us out so decided to come here instead. (Spoiler alert- bad decision and I will be going somewhere else. SPCA wins over Bay Cities)So I found a growth on my dog and decided that I should get it checked out. Called and made an appointment for the morning and even showed up a few minutes early to make sure that I could fill out any paperwork and still be on time. They led me in to the room where I then waited 40 minutes for the vet. No one else was even in the office!!! Why make an appointment if you can't actually see me anywhere near that appointment time?! The vet finally comes in and, in a monotone voice, apologizes for the wait. They force my dog on the table (could have been a lot calmer if they just originally told me what they needed because I just got him to get on the table to get weighed with no problem). She starts feeling the lumps I'm talking about but doesn't look at it at all! This goes on for maybe 5 minutes (including a rabies shot) while she tells me that I could get the lumps removed if I wanted but they just seemed to be fatty. She also pointed out another lump. I ask her for an estimate and she leaves. No goodbye. No thank you for coming. Just leaves me in the room again and I'm stuck there waiting. About 5 minutes later, the receptionist comes back in to discuss the pricing. I ask her if I can have the estimate and she says that she'll make me a copy (why didn't you already have a copy... but whatever). She leaves and I decide I can't take much more of being confined in that little room with that smell and no ventilation. I finally pay and get a copy of the estimate... So I made a vet appointment for a rabies shot (which I could have had that done quickly and possibly cheaper at the SPCA), for someone else to feel and point out additional lumps, and an estimate of getting them removed... only within 2 weeks though. I get home from work to find my dog throwing up everywhere and I'm new to the whole dog owning thing so I'm freaking out and I remember passing by this place so I rush over around 250 and they don't open till 300 so I wait. Guy didn't open the door until 315 -__- I get in and it's only the tech vet no doctor or front desk receptionist. So he can't even see my dog. She comes in like 330 and has me fill out paper work then disappears for ten minutes leaving me alone with my dying dog!  she comes back and tells me the doctor is on the way. I had adopted a kitten and brought her here to have a declaw surgery done. I know, declawing a cat is a bad thing to do. However, having a young child in the home along with new furniture, I made the decision to have the procedure done. This was the cheapest clinic for the procedure that was needed. I chose price over competence. I ended up going back to this clinic 4 times due to infections. Something that was done 4 months ago should be completely healed. Now they are stating that everything is fine with my kitten even though she holds her left paw up. I made some bad decisions...wanting her declawed along with choice of vet clinic. I am however thankful for finding her and giving her a loving home. I regret my choice of where to take her. Now she will favor one paw over the other most likely for the rest of her life. I just moved to the area and needed to find a vet for my elderly cat, who has epilepsy. I made the appointment for a week later and asked them to get the records from my prior vet in SoCal.  Here is a list of all the things that happened and why I will never return to this place: a) they did not get the records and challenged me on the epilepsy diagnosis; b) vet didn't bother to introduce herself and made NO eye contact with me; c) pulled my cat by the fur on her neck in order to get the cat closer; and d) couldn't figure out how to draw blood without shaving her (she has long hair) and didn't bother to look where they were shaving so they cut her neck. Both my cat and I were very unhappy campers about this horrible treatment and will never, ever return to this place. I recommend you find a different vet. Read Less

This place sucks all they ever want to do is run tests that cost an arm and a leg plus their ridiculous $56 examination fee x 4 pets you can imagine how quickly that cost adds up. They always insist on running unnecessary tests; I say unnecessary because after running the tests they tell me they couldn't find anything and lets just give them a worming treatment. Every time I have been to this hospital the bill is no less than $700!!!! they have little care or concern for my animal. I Recently I went online to buy some pets meds and was abruptly told that they would not authorize a worming treatment without seeing my pet. WFT??!! its a worming treatment!!!I was raised on a farm and you know, every time we had to give our livestock worming treatments we didn't have to fucking take them to the VET to get a "check up" in short if you want to fleeced of all your $$$ then absolutely go here!! My family has come to Bay Cities for the past 15-20 years, way back when they were located in Oakland.  We've come to know the staff personally and have always had a great relationship.I recent got a new puppy over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Knowing what a good owner would do, took him here for his first wellness exam and shots.  He just completed his 3rd set of shots this morning and is awaiting his 4month birthday  for his rabies and other "stuff." The staff have always provided us with sound recommendations of what services are needed, and those that are not.  Always helpful when saving a few bucks, but recommendation are based on their vast experience in the field, which makes sense for a lifetime dog owner.Never had a pet sick from here, but always had a pet recover from any ailments at home because of Bay Cities. We have been going to Dr. Cellu for many many years. I can honestly say she was who i put my full trust in when i had to get any of my cats treatment, and she's done wonderfull. I fully respect her, and i trust she knows what shes doing. She also offers some of the lowest prices at her animal hospital, bay cities in hayward.On the other hand- Her Office assistant, Bobby, is THE rudest, ignorant, selfish, cocky person ive ever worked with! yes, as a past employee, I will NEVER step foot into that animal hospital again while Bobby is still working there. Granted, he DOES know a lot, and he is very cocky because of that, but he talks to people as if he were the Dr., and simply, he's NOT. Dont let him fool you- you always want to make sure what Dr. Cellu, has told you mathces up to what Bobby tells you. And, if it doesnt- ONLY take the Dr's advise. My bf and his family came here a couple of times and everytime they went there, it was a very, very BAD EXPERIENCE!!! The place is very outdated and DIRTY (floors).3. The receptionist (the vet's brother or hubby) is VERY F*$@ing RUDE AS HELL!! If you want to ask him a question about anything, he would just end up talking to you like your a kid or something. He has no manners whatsoever!! 4. They don't have a table to put your pet, so you have to hold your pet while the vet is doing something to your pet.5. The blood lab that they use is very cheap because the results when they come back doesn't show complete results and it's hard to read it. 6. The prescription that they prescribe is a cheap and generic shit. After my bf dog took some of their pills, he ended up being blind. 7. For all those that know me and to those that don't, know this...I LOVE MY DUMMIES (aka doggies)!!!  This love affair started out when my boyfriend bought me Atlas, our 1st Boston Terrier...and now, we have 3 plus Pommie, our Pomeranian! All are very well cared for when we bring them in for their shots & vet appointments.  When Atlas needed his 2nd and 3rd set of shots, he was brought to a vet in Livermore (name will not be provided here b/c vilification is not needed) that had left us broke after each visit by the 3 figured vet bill.  In addition, it was a hassle to make it to the appointments.  We decided to look for a local vet and came across Bay Cities.  Not only are they accomodating to all with their hours of operation, but their service is very personable.  We are greeted each time with smiles as we are no longer strangers with the "$" on our foreheads.  The price is surely fair for the well-being of our dummies...Since this is not an around the clock facility, we took Atlas in to a local 24 hr emergency vet hospital once as we had thought there was a knot in his intestine.  Having heard of the event, Bay Cities contacted us out of concern.  When we flew with our doggies for the first time, we were not informed until the last minute that a health certificate was needed.  Bay Cities was able to get us in for an appointment on the same day we had called and off we went!Lastly, another major event had happened recently with Athena.  She had trouble whelping on her own and was immediately rushed to Bay Cities.  Dr. Dhawan + staff were all amazing and had helped deliver all 6 puppies.  All, but one (RIP Elvis due to his cleft lip/undeveloped hard palette)...are healthy as can be!!!Thank you Bay Cities! I am the type of person who is very picky; I actually complain about every thing or will tell a business off in their face, if I do not like their customer service. I have never had this with BAY Cities. I even used to live in Foster City. I couldn?t find a vet I liked, although I would break my pockets. When I moved back to the east bay, I was very pleased with their honesty. I have found a cat that ended up having cancer. Bobby could have made me pay a lot for test, but he was very honest and had me take one NOT SO COSTLY test that will help me determine the illness, also he has helped me when getting a new pet. They will also tell you other alternatives if possible, rather then you paying a lot for the same thing. They are a very well establish Vet hospital. My mother and aunts use them for many things. BEWARE!!!! IF YOU "TRULY" LOVE AND CARE FOR YOUR PETS, "DO NOT" EVER TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS POOR EXCUSE FOR A VET CLINIC!"We took our 3.5 pd. Toy Chihuahua to get her teeth cleaned. I was instantly told I was to get a blood test done!!??The "Tech" (Bobby) came out to get my dog after me just telling both of the receptionist and the Tech that she, our Chihuahua wouldn't go to them. Saying this at least 5 times, and that I would hold her in the exam room. The "Tech" said NO ONE was allowed to go to the back!!?? Who is NOT allowed to go to the exam room with their pet! NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE OF HAVING PETS, HAVE WE BEEN TOLD WE CANNOT BE IN THE EXAM ROOM!!! Was this the clue we should have followed....After going back and forth with BOBBY and Bobby speaking to my husband and I like we were idiots and he was the VET GURU, Bobby brought out a muzzle and grabbed my dog from me as Guerra went berserk in the arms of someone she did not know, or even get a moment to even smell before they touched her. (usually, doesn't the Tech or whoever is going to handle your pet talk to your pet "before" they do anything!) Not one word was said to communicate with our dog, knowing she was nervous and scared!! Sooo,  I grabbed her back and he commented, "WOW" and walked away and came back with a torn up towel and through it on top of her face and put it around her and walked away as my pore Chihuahua had a bowl movement from her terror!!While we waited in the lobby stressed and worried. My husband and I discussed how unusual it was to NOT be allowed in the exam room and found questionable. I finally stood up and walked to the receptionist and asked her to please see if the blood test were performed yet and if not, to tell the Tech do NOT do it, we changed our mind, we felt something wasn't rite!!! So, she went to tell the Tech, on her way out he followed and called me to the back to where, TO MY HORROR, I find my 3.5 Chihuahua laying flat out with the Vet Dr. over her with a tube down my dogs throat and hand on her heart searching for a heart beat!!!!!  I yelled, "what is going on & what did you do to my dog!!!" I touched her COLD LIFELESS body!!!! My dog was being brought back to life after being dead. WHAT DID THEY DO TO OUR DOG WITHOUT OUR PRESENCE!!??     ALL OF THIS FOR A SIMPLE LITTLE PROCEDURE!!!!!The Tech Bobby claimed they did not do anything to her and for me not to speak to them that way!!!! OMG!! ARE THEY SERIOUS!! IS THIS FOR REAL! WERE WE REALLY AT A VET CLINIC!!! Did we make a wrong turn and walk into HELL!!I yelled at them and said, "I told you we wanted to be in here with her as you did her exam!!" Bobby, had the ordasity to say "we never told him that!" WHAT A LIAR!!!!!! The owner of the Vet clinic, "the Vet Dr." stood there continuing to look for life in our dog and saying "NOTHING" to myself or my husband as we stand in disbelief.With my husband reaming the "tech" a new a-hole. I went to my dog to touch her and began talking to her and praying....she began to wake up and moved her eyes to look for my voice and she wagged her tail!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!! The tube came came out of her throat and I picked her up and waited while my husband spoke to the morons that have a license to run a Veterinary Clinic.This "Bobby" person, is a Tech!!! The receptionist clearly did not care for this man Bobby. One who had quit 3 times from this place because of Bobby!!! We were told by the receptionist that Bobby was a "human Dr." from India, and  came to the U.S. to be a Dr., but could not be a Dr. due to the fact he would have had to start the schooling over, here in the U.S.!!!! So he decides to be a VET TECH instead!!As I waited to finally get out of this nightmare, a couple were dropping of their pet to board due to some emergency. They stated to the Vet Dr. that the "last time" they picked up their precious dog, it got WORMS!!!! And they had to "make" them eat the costs of the medication to get rid of the worms!! They did not want to "have" to leave their pet, but had no other alternative. I HOPE THEIR PET IS STILL ALIVE WHEN THEY RETURN!!BOBBY MUST HAVE DID AN AWESOME JOB WORKING ON THE HUMAN LIFE!!!!!! Just called and spoke with the receptionist named Bobby.  He was very rude.  I just asked a couple of questions, and he said in a very negative tone, "I don't know what your dog has, he has to come in for a checkup!"  Then proceeded to list diseases the dog may or may not have.  If he doesn't know how to answer my question, he could have simply said, "Please bring your dog in, it is hard to diagnose over the phone", in a courteous manner.  It is so important to have good phone manners.  He was horrible.  And based on him alone, I will not go see the doctor.  Doctor, if you are reading, you lost a potential customer by having a poor receptionist. Clearly this dog has a variety of acute and serious conditions that pre-existed the visit. Clearly this dog required firther tests - if this fool LowBlow had given them a proper opportunity to care for his dog, they could've come up with a diagnosis and possibly treated the poor thing!Hey LowBlow: Newsflash: They "talked to you like [you] didn't know what [you were] doing" because you DON"T! And on top of that, you're an jerk! I'm sure that although they were sorry to see that sick animal leave with unresolved health issues, they were elated to get you out of their office!By the way, $35 for an exam is very inexpensive! The price may be lower but, you have to remember, you get what you pay for.I have two dogs a chihuahua (11/2 yrs) and a yorkie (8 months).  I took both of my pets to Bay Cities for their puppy shots.  The first visit seem to go ok, but everytime I took them back they freaked out, began barking, crying and whinning.  I thought it was because they knew that they would be getting another shot.  Later, I found out it was because THEY HATE IT THERE!!!In March 2008, I had my chihuahua spayed.  She got a terrible infection, and had to go back a couple of times. Which I was charged a "recheck" fee each time.   First of all, I want to say I strickly obeyed all post surgery instructions, for example, gave her the antibiotics as directed, kept her inside, kept the surgery site from getting wet, etc.  When I took her in for the "recheck" both the vet and the assistant said that the stiches may have ripped or come loose from her jumping or playing around.  I thought about it... Ok, that's possible, she is pretty active even though I tried hard to keep her calm after her surgery. Then.....in May 2008  I had my yorkie spayed.  This time I was extremely careful not to let her jump or play around.  She, also got a terrible infection and had to go back in.  Again, I strickly followed all post surgery instructions.  When I expressed my disappointment to the office, they had no comment and offered no advice.  I brought my yorkie in and showed the surgery site to the front desk guy, he hung his head and said "I've seen worse"Its no wonder that both of my dogs freak out from going there.  So...If you love your pet, please take my advice, spend a little bit more and get the care and treatment that they deserve. Dr. Cellu Dhawan at Bay Cities is without a doubt the best vet I've ever been to. I have two dogs, one who has been seeing him since he was a puppy and another whose first visit was for emergency surgery. Dr. Dhawan is not only a great vet, but he really takes the time to explain everything and gives you the information to make the right decision for your pet. He clearly loves animals and has a great bedside manner. On top of it all, the pricing for services is extremely reasonable - which is kind of amazing, given the excellent care they provide.
