Dr. Ben is a wonderful vet and I trust him completely.  He is committed to the well-being of his patients and is honest, direct and reasonable about what needs to be done for their care.We recently needed to euthanize our sweet 12 year old cat, Mimi, who was very sick.  He was very gentle with her and kind to me (I was a wreck!).  Ben also spent time at the Healdsburg Animal Shelter in a special program that brought him to the shelter to treat the animals rather than requiring the animals to be transported back and forth to his office.   I was impressed that he was willing to do that.  The office staff is great too.  Thank you Elaine, Darryl and Laurel for your caring attitudes and support. Dr Baldwin is terrific and he's been taking care of all of our animals for 15 years or so. We have cats and a dog and have tried other local vets earlier and settled with him. Dr. Baldwin is a no-nonsense scientist type. He doesn't say much, but if you ask an intelligent question he'll give you a great education. If you need warm and fuzzy, he's not your man. If you want a vet to be practical, reasonable, and do what is best for the animal not what is politically correct, or what will put money in his pocket, then he is your guy. If you want to spend lots of cash and get needless tests and unnecessary treatment, go to Memorial. His assistant Elaine is fantastic and his office is wide open, nothing to hide. Dr. Baldwin has gone above and beyond many times by meeting us at the office, assisting us on his off hours etc. He is a loyal vet and although it seems some people here don't understand or appreciate his coolness, that's just the way he is. Dr Baldwin is amazing.  My family has brought our animals to him for at least 10 years, and now I take my dog and cats.  He is fantastic with animals, including my very shy dog.  He's even made house calls when parents' dog was very sick and couldn't be brought in.  Laurie and Elaine are so sweet and helpful.  As long as they're in business, we won't take our pets anywhere else. I saw Dr. Baldwin for my cat who had an ear infection. He's strictly business, nothing more, which is fine with me as long as he takes care of business. That being said, I called and left a message asking if I could possibly get a tranquilizer for my elderly cat because I have to take him on a long drive  (they didn't answer even though it was during business hours).  I thought I would receive a call back later on in the afternoon...nothing. Thought that they would call first thing in the morning....nothing. Called back and they were closed at noon. They give you an option of paging the Dr. and he "will call you back"....I did that and have have not heard from him. Bad business practice. I am not impressed and am glad I am moving out of Healdsburg. If my cat doesn't make the drive because he is stressed I blame Dr. Baldwin. Read Less

We have been taking our cat to this vet for 10 years.  For the second time, we were dealing with an ill animal and once again had no response from our vet.  I paged the doctor and Monday at 11AM received a call back for a different issue with the indication that is was my fault the doctor was unable to call me back this weekend because my number was unclear on the page.  We are in the book and have been a client for 10 years but apparently did not warrant a return phone call.  The call today was for a different issue, as I mentioned, and the urgent issue was not addressed. Another illness went undetected in an annual exam despite me expresses concerns.  We then had to bring the cat in for a more urgent visit.   I do think this vet's charges are reasonable and it is easy to make routine appointments.  We are switching care givers now with one sick cat and two new kittens. Dr. Baldwin is a great Vet and his Assistant Laurel is so sweet!  Very caring, no nonsense, really takes his time to exam all possibilities that may be ailing your pet, for me my wonderful dogs.....and affordable!!!  Highly recommend! Read Less

The only vet in Sonoma County we trust with our pit bull mix is Dr. Ben. You can tell he really loves the bullies and we feel he gives our boy the best care he is possible of. All of our pets in the past have been clients of Dr. Ben's and all our future pets will be too! 5 stars! Read Less

Had a great experience- my dog hadn't been to a vet in over 3 years, and Ben and his wife were very sweet and informed me of a lot of things I didn't know about taking care of my little guy.They did a dental on his teeth and I am absolutely amazed at the results. I read the other reviews about the euthenizations- and I wasn't in for this service- so I didn't experience anything like this- but if you need you pet to have his shots and teeth cleaned- I am telling you, they did a miraculous jobs that I wasn't  not expecting. This man is the most competent, well-educated, thorough veterinarian I have ever met.My family and I have been taking our animals to Dr. Ben for twenty years or more.  I don't remember having taken our family pets to anyone else.  I believe Ben's specialty is in exotic animals, which I think is fascinating.  We have Eastern Box Turtles that he has helped us take care of over the years.He has also helped us to take care of our dogs, cats, fish, and chickens.  I can go on about all of the illnesses or problems some of our animals have had over the years - and even though the problems have changed, the way that Ben has handled them has not, in the sense that he has always been very thorough and honest.Currently, we have a Boston Terrier that I describe as "medically sensitive."  What this means to me is that she has had a lot of problems and seems prone to more problems (bad breeding, ringworm, seizures, bone stuck in her ribs, etc).  We have been lucky in the sense that she's a lovely dog with a great personality.  Also, we have been so grateful to have Ben help us take care of her and try to keep her healthy.He is very caring, but I think people are put off by his dry sense of humor.  I happen to enjoy it.  Laurel, his wife, is his administrative assistant (she does a lot more than that but that's the best title I could come up with), and she is outgoing, straightforward, and also very helpful.  They make a wonderful team and I couldn't recommend them with any more gusto than I am doing now.
