Nice people who are capable, but I had to stop going there after they continued to recommend Starr Pet Resort in Windsor for boarding pets. Following their recommendation, I left my Belgian Malinois puppy at Starr Pet Resort when I went on vacation last year. I had to come back a day early to pick my dog up at the hospital where Starr Pet Resort had dumped her off after they broke her leg. Not only did I get stuck with a huge doctor bill as Starr Pet Resort does not have insurance, but the owner threatened to call the sheriff and have me arrested if I didn't come in the next day and pay his boarding bill. I let Dr. McCrystle know what happened, and to my surprise, on my next visit a few months later, Starr Pet Resort was still their number one recommendation. I asked Dr. McCrystle why they were still recommending Starr Pet Resort and he said he would look into it and get back to me. I recently called to get my dog a flu shot, and when I inquired about boarding, I was told once again to go to Starr Pet Resort. I emailed Dr. McCrystle and told him that I didn't feel comfortable bringing my dog to someone who continues to recommend an establishment as unprofessional as Starr Pet Resort. I don't know what his relationship is with the owners of Starr Pet Resort, but he basically told me to take my business elsewhere, and I did. Read Less

The care our pets receive at HVH is top notch.  Dr. McCrystal and Dr. Basurto use their expertise and experience of veterinary medicine doused with common sense.   They explain options clearly and honestly.  I would never think to take my dog or cat anywhere else.   I recommend them to fellow dog owners, who want excellent care without excessive costs.  The entire crew is caring, friendly and competent.  Thank you, HVH, for all you do for our animal friends and our community. Dr McCrystle has been my veterinarian for over 27 years.  Few people can say that about their vets. I also love the addition of Dr. Basurto to the hospital because she is equally fabulous and wonderfully empathetic.  The office staff are wonderful and polite, genuinely so.  Everyone goes above and beyond when needed but does not "Sell" you more services than are needed.  Dr. McCrystle still uses his hands to "touch" the animals during diagnosis and does not just rely on testing to evaluate the health of my dogs.  I appreciate that small fact soo much.  He is a ranch vet and for anyone who understands what that means, you will appreciate his candor and approach to veterinary medicine. Love this place from Debi at the front desk to all the assistants. Dr McCrystal is great with Sprock and Torpedo I love how he remembers everything about them, so he knows if something is wrong. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. Read Less

Best vet in area. There is only one Dr. McCrystal. He is one of last small town vets with the abilities to care for all animals. He is not one to do tests or try to force you to do tests that will not improve your animals life. If you care for your animals and want to be treated with respect. Dr. Basurto is not only a fantastic vet but a great person. Our six year old dog Gus had back surgery for a disc herniation and has had some very difficult days. She has really helped us manage his recovery and has been there for us over and above what anyone could ask for. We can't say enough of how appreciative we are. If I could give HVH and the staff more than five stars, I would.  Over the course of the past month, Dr. David McCrystle, Dr. Margaret Basurto and team have: 1) Saved the life of our Golden Retriever Tucker who had a bad case of gastric torsion (twisted and bloated stomach); and, 2) diagnosed our second Golden, Nipper, with a very aggressive case of cancer; removed a tumor; and, when the time was right (yesterday), Dr. Basurto and her vet tech Adrienne came out to our home to help send Nipper peacefully on to a better place.The skill, compassion, care and understanding of these individuals during this difficult period is so appreciated and respected. With two major operations and numerous medications and dietary adjustments, it was costly, but very, very fair. Petcare would have charged us threes times the amount we were charged for Tucker's operation -- Dr. Basurto actually took him home to her house the night of his operation, because they are not a 24/7 facility like Petcare. She monitored Tucker all night long, and kenneled her own two dogs at HVH!Only in a small town like our precious Healdsburg, with a vet that has been in business for years (since 1969 as partner and since 1985 as the owner), do you get this kind of professional, empathetic and careful care for our beloved animal companions. First review I have ever written about ANYTHING - Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital has taken care of my pooch for the last 10 years. Dr. Dave is a wonderful vet - very knowledgeable, gentle and kind - and Dr. Basurto is equally excellent. We drive a serious distance to see these docs, because I know that my dog will get the best of care. In our experience, the staff are equally caring - generous with their time, concerned about the animals who visit the doctor. If my old dog could write, he would give a glowing review - he actually likes to visit the vet, and when he's ill, he understands that these guys will make it better. If I could add an extra star for the doctors and staff at Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital, I would. They are the best! Read Less

I have nothing but good things to say about this vet. I felt compelled to write a review after reading so many bad ones here.  I have been going to this vet for 5 years with both of my Red Heelers, who have problems off and on; one of them being diabetes. I have been treated with the utmost care and respect at each and every visit.  Moreover, I completely trust my animals to the doctors and the entire staff.  When I became emotional after my dog's diabetes diagnosis, Dr. Basurto was responsive and sympathetic and understanding.  When I call at all times of the day with countless questions, the staff is always patient and attentive.  I would recommend this vet to anyone looking for competence, care and compassion at a very reasonable price. It's unfortunate to give this rating. I really like Dr. Dave, and think he's a good vet. But their customer service is pathetic. First, their hours are not conducive to a working person's life. And they are INFLEXIBLE--if you show up two minutes before opening, they'll let you wait. If you are going to arrive to pick up something two minutes after they are closing--you are out of luck. I tried to order meds online for my dog and the woman on the phone refused to send the prescription. REFUSED to fax a prescription. How hard is that?? The final straw was waiting in town today (a day that their hours state they are open) until they return from lunch at 2:00. I arrived, the gate was closed with a note saying they'd be closed tomorrow-nothing about today. When we called, they said they were in but didn't know what time they'd be reopening. My time is every bit as valuable as theirs. I'd rather drive to Santa Rosa, and will from now on. Too bad. I like to keep my business local. Read Less
