Crossroads Animal Emergency

Huntington Beach, California
General Info
Crossroads Animal Emergency has been an A.A.H.A. certified hospital for 29 years. We're open Nights, Weekends and Holidays. 6pm to 8am Monday through Friday, and 24 Hours a day on Weekends and Holidays. Crossroads has experienced doctors on staff all night long. As fellow pet owners our entire staff understands what it is like to take their pet unexpectedly to an emergency room. We understand that when your pet is having an emergency it is a difficult time in your life. We want you to be greeted by a friendly front desk staff--ready to assist you with having your pet examined by our doctor. One of our skilled nurses will quickly evaluate your pet's condition and determine what order you will be seen--most life threatening first. Those patients needing immediate life saving treatment will be taken to our treatment area where measures will be used to attempt to save the pet's life. At Crossroads, the doctor will always perform a thorough examination (cost is $75) and offer recommendations for tests to get to the bottom of what your pet suffers from, and once that is determined will offer you treatment options for your pet. Only tests indicated by your pet's condition will be performed. We have a goal of providing you with World Class Customer Service and World Class Pet Healthcare. Crossroads serves Southeast Los Angeles County, Long Beach and North Orange County for emergency pet needs, as well as for orthopedic and complex soft tissue surgeries. Crossroads has the latest in advanced equipment including digital X-Ray, ultrasound, patient monitoring, and anesthesia.

We brought our 2 year old dog Cooper into Crossroads the Sunday before Christmas. He was throwing up and had loose bowels. He could not wait till Tuesday. Everyone there was professional and nice. We waited a little bit but not long at all. We had to leave him overnight and he pranced off with the vet pretty as you please. When we picked him up the next morning he was much better. We had pills to give him. The price was reasonable, not like some others I have been to. Would definitely go back, hope I won't have to and I'm already telling people with pets about the experience. I arrived home to a basset hound that looked like she had a "pinch (of tobacco) between her lip and gum." She had an odd abscess not associated with a tooth. Took her to Crossroads, and Dr. Coe and the team took great care of her, even examined her and found some spots she'd been licking. They shaved her and made me aware of it. I left with some antibiotics, my regular vet was notified, and Lu was thrilled to be back at home! The price was reasonable, too, given that it was an overnight emergency. If your pet needs a vet in the middle of the night, Crossroads gets my vote! Read Less

I saw the mixed reviews here, and would not normally bring my sick dog to such a place.  But they are close to my house, and they are 24x7, and depending on what your dog is going through, and the doctor you get (they rotate), I decided to take a chance.  The place itself is very nice and clean, and you can have a snack and coffee for free while you wait.  There was quite a wait (on a Sunday afternoon), but when you have a sick dog you're worried about, it wasn't so bad.  Doctor Bagreef (apologies for the misspelling) genuinely cares and was very good to me and my dog, and for me she and this company were top notch.  Me and my dog are both grateful :) Read Less

This place is a joke. I took my diabetic dog in last night because her levels were low because she had thrown up her food. I asked up front about the cost and they said $75 for the visit. They proceeded to pull blood without asking me (additional charge). I was then taken into a room (still haven't seen my dog) and told me they would need to do blood work and possibly X-rays. I asked why when my only concern was making sure she didn't fall into hypoglycemia. She said I should want to know the root cause for the throw up. I proceeded to tell her that my only concern was that my pet was okay diabetic wise. She said she would keep my pet overnight and need to hospitalize her ($1k). They kept playing this game where I would say can you just do this .... then the vet tech would go ask the doctor then come back and relay the message.  It was ridiculous. Eventually after doing that 5 times the vet came back and explained they could not just monitor her and that she needed to be on an iv and stay. I could not afford that took my pet home and monitored her myself using my glycometer. When my dogs levels dropped further I found an Irvine ER vet and went there instead. $90 later at the Irvine vet my dog was released and okay to go home. Read Less

Pros-clean, nice waiting area, pleasant front desk staffCons-the nite I was there there was only one other pet and it took 2 trips and 5 hrs to have our cat checked out and then it was apparent the very young vet was marginal - seemed way overly sleepy and she misdiagnosed the cat (only knew this after another obviously very competent vet checked her the next day, read the reports on blood tests and urine test the fact that they did tests that didn't reveal what the told us was bad enough, then the fact that they charged a breathtaking amount of money was simply infuriating. It's Christmas day,  and we were just sitting down to lunch when our elderly dog had some sort of episode.  He was quivering and disoriented,  we waited a few minutes before deciding to take him to an emergency vet.   We called to find if they were open but the person who answered didn't let us off the phone before doing a bit of triage.   It was obvious that if it had been a non-emergency,  she would have encouraged us to wait.   It made me feel better about taking him to a vet we had never met,  that they had such a clear mission. Anyway,  long story short,  it was not good news.   But the young vet was very kind and extremely compassionate and we left feeling  glad we had brought him here, and  confident of our path forward.   They prescribed palliative care and he is much more comfortable. Yes,  it's expensive.   Very expensive.   That's how they get vets to work on Christmas day.   They were up front about the costs, and I didn't grumble about it. Read Less

Of course when you go to a Pet Emergency Room, you do expect that the services will be pricey...and over the top pricey it was...They know they have you and gouge you.. I am still stunned by the cost.   The vet and staff seemed to be nice enough..My issue is that I had to call 4 times over the course of the day to find out how my dog was doing.  She had be anesthetized and stitched up.  When  we went to pick her up I explained to the front staff that they should call owners with updates then I was treated like a difficult patient.. "They had to get their manager.." For the amount of money they charge and the clientele they are targeting, better customer service would improve their practice. The emergency vet hospital in Irvine is still the best.  I guess that's the reason all the local vets direct you to Irvine and not this local emergency room. I needed to take my lil dog in for respiratory distress. As with most people, money is usually an issue so expected the worst. The exam itself was the cost of a regular exam instead of the "twice as much" I thought it would be. They took her right away and into the oxygen chamber she went. After the Vet looked her over in the back, she came and discussed all that was going on with my girl. As a former Vet tech, I knew this could be a pricey and lengthy ordeal considering the nature of veterinary medicine (especially an emergency) but to my surprise and relief, the Vet did what I never expected from her. She cared, listened and agreed to take steps instead of forcing me to do workups I knew would be unnecessary in my dogs case. She didn't try and sell me anything. She took care of my dog AND me. They take care of your pet and the vet and staff are knowledgable. However, given that they are an emergency vet, prices are EXTREMELY high and ridiculous and I believe they completely feed off your emotions. If you don't know better or are an emotional wreck (which is understandable as it's the middle of the night and an emergency usually), they will suggest all the services under the sun. They wanted $1700 for x rays and blood work, I asked them to stabilize and clean up my dog instead (paid $400 for cleaning wounds and 3 staples, I think they gave her fluids and pain meds??), and took her to JYK on Warner for $300 for all the tests they recommended. The vet techs and doctor at this facility were amazing. They were sincere, kind, thorough on explaining everything, and did their best to keep my estimate on the lower end while also ensuring my dog had the best care. My dog had a severe fever and needed over night treatment and diagnostics that my regular vet could not provide. If it weren't for this facility, I would hate to think what what have happened to my corgi. A side note to consider when reading other reviews.  People who are coming to this facility are in serious distress for their pets, and one can misconstrue the cost as over priced. This is an emergency center, so of course it will cost more than the usual day time vet. People should not negatively review them based on cost when this facility is here primarily because no other vet is open. If it can wait, then go to your vet. If it cant, then be grateful someone is there to help your pet when they need it.

I'd like to figure out how to get them to acknowledge their mistake. And get some $ back. Feel really taken adv of by Crossroads. I wouldn't use them again. Read Less

But when I needed them, I'm glad they were there. Read Less

The day everyone dreads is the last day of their cherished family pet. That day came for us on the evening of November 16th. Our vet suggested that we take our 17 yr old cat, Jo to Crossroads. We were greeted with kindness and Jo was treated with dignity and respect. We were lead to a comfortable and quiet dimly lit room where we took care of the paperwork quickly & efficiently. We were told to take as much time as we wanted to say our goodbyes. I am thankful to Crossroads for a very peaceful passing. It was such a relief to see our Jo out of pain. Read Less
