I have been talking my fur babies to see Dr. Palmquist since the 1990s. He treats the whole patient and thinks outside the box. Dr. P also cares about the fur baby's humans too. The best vet I have ever encountered. He has helped my dogs Mani and Tofu when two other vets (including the VCA in WEHO) said we had to put them down. Dr. Palmquist works holistically as well as with traditional western medicine. He is an expert on their combined uses. I am now on my way to Texas to pick up my mom's dog just to drive him to Dr. Palmquist tomorrow. The dog, Charlie, is originally from Hainan Island where I bought him as a puppy. He was in a cage, in an open market, as a "food" item. On impulse, I purchased him and managed his illness. Vets in the area refused to treat him because they recognized him as a dog that should be eaten. I worked as a volunteer veterinarian at the only animal shelter in town. I was able to treat Charlie with IM injections - high doses of vitamin C. Also, I force fed him every two hours. He made it. It cost all of my savings to bring him to the United States where he resides in El Paso, Texas as my mother's dog. The past 2 months Charlie's health is declining. We have spent hundreds of dollars on treatments with veterinarians. Charlie's pain level is high and he continues to lose weight. Dr. Palmquist is our only hope for this little dog. The negative reviews left here have commented about the wait time and I feel compelled to address that. Yes this place can get very busy but that is because this is the best place in town to take your pet. The doctors here are so compassionate and genuinely care about what is best for your pet's health and pet owners that come here know that. That is why so many people come here for their pets and why it is frequently busy. Perhaps it is that there are just too many clients for so few doctors, but that should be seen as a good thing - so many pet owners wanting to see these amazing exceptional doctors is a testament to their skill and genuine concern for your pet. Also the wait time is a reflection of the doctors and staff's want to help as many pets as possible. The doctors and staff at Centinela Animal Hospital REALLY REALLY do care about pets health, this is not the kind of place that will charge your for a whole slew of unnecessary tests, but rather will do what is best to properly diagnose your pet. And really the wait time is not that bad- sometimes it does get SUPER busy but in no way is it like that all the time. The customers that left reviews where they were waiting for hours or what have you clearly came in here on one of these days, take a look at all the other positive reviews. My dog needed surgery and I'm young, a student and don't make a lot of money and I'm not certain if the type of surgery my dog needed could not be done here or would be more expensive if performed here, but they helped me look for a good surgeon for the best price in light of my financial situation and the imperativeness and urgency of my dog's surgery. I mean who does that! The answer- people who really care about helping animals. The doctors and staff here truly care about my Chloe and is alive today because of their concern and expertise. Today is the first time we take any of our cats in for a visit and I can honestly say this is the best place to take your furbabies .. The doctor is awesome such an amazing human with a beautiful soul that reflects in the love he has for animals .. My princess Biancca had to stay overnight do to a small surgery and he made sure we visit with her before living her . That made me feel better since she has never been away from home in her 4 years of life .. He is for sure are new furbabies doctor ! His staff is also the best so friendly and understanding ... Dr. Palmquist and all the doctors who work at Centinela Hospital are so fine. They are sturdy professionals with deep understanding of holistic medicine. In addition to lab tests, X-Rays and all the advances of modern medicine they offer treatments for sick cats and dogs that are heal, homeopathic and acupuncture. We have had many remarkable healing experiences her under the loving care of these terrifically vets. This is the home of one of the best vets around - Dr. Richard Palmquist. It is worth the wait to see the staff here - Dr Palmquist has a special way with animals and a holistic approach to medicine and we would not think of taking our cats and dog to any other vet in Los Angeles. While reading a book by Cesar Milan, he mentioned taking his dogs to Dr Palmquist -- Mr. Milan has since moved away from this neighborhood and goes to other celebrity vets, but that leaves more of Dr Palmquist's time for the community! The place can be very busy, and I imagine that it could be organized a bit more efficiently, but the staff is always extremely helpful and diligent and they don't over-prescribe medicine like other vets in town. I have a friend who's dog got cancer treatment here, and the work of CAH absolutely extended her life. And we have a 21 year old cat that receives her care from the folks at Centinela Animal Hospital and she is doing very well for her age.Read Less

THIS is the most compassionate, knowledgeable group of people I have encountered working with animals. Not only do they know and share with clarity their comprehensive information in the more traditional veterinary language, but they incorporate alternate methods (that they will also explain) that kept my dog alive for eight years beyond his life expectancy once diagnosed with a terminal illness. Additionally, Dr. Palmquist and his kind team were there for me when it was time to let Bo-Diddly go and transition. Thank you for helping me with my cat also who has some dental challenges. And now my new dog, who through nutrition and supplements has dealt with an anxiety disorder. I highly recommend them. Dr. Palmquist is phenomenal and truly cares about his patients and their owners too. I had a very complex case with my Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever who got diagnosed with distemper, who would not have lived without Dr. P's study/trial he is involved in. We were accepted into this program that required a major commitment. For 6 weeks straight I drove down from the San Francisco Bay Area to have Dr. P see and work with Taffy. My dog went through ups and downs during and even after our trial was over. Dr. P knew it was draining on me and I was emotional. He and my local vet, taught me to be patient and positive, even though I worried. I stuck with Dr P, the program and Taffy. My dog, thanks to Dr. P is distemper free. We drove down yesterday, Aug 2nd to re-access and see how she was doing. He could not believe the change in Taffy from mid May. This wonderful man will be there for you and your animal. If he was closer, all my animals would be seeing Dr. P. Thanks is not enough. Though I think that was our last visit, we will come down at least yearly to see him. This is the WORST animal hospital EVER! Let's start with the building. The parking lot looks like the opening scene of a slasher film. The lobby door is difficult to open, and what's on the other side is even more unbearable. Their lobby has entire wall made of glass, and there is NO AIR CONDITIONING.... Beware: This hospital post no signs in its lobby regarding its prices for services rendered and they will not mention price until you're ready to leave. They charge $150 to see a vet, and they charge for other services without informing the customer before. They will create a bill for you after they have seen your pet, and demand payment! After being to several vets in LA, I've finally found one I really truly trust with my favorite canine ever. Dr. Richard Palmquist and his staff, are hands down the best. Not only are they super knowledgeable and helpful, but they are also really friendly and you can tell they truly care about the animals.
