I'm always impressed by how much time the doctors spend with me and my dog whenever I have an appointment. Dr. Lai, especially, is sincere and charming. She listens to all of my concerns and I never feel rushed out the door. The doctors are fantastic at following up with lab results and will even call well after office hours. They are very considerate of my requests and never make me feel like a bad pet owner if I decline certain tests or services. Their administrative team is great at fulfilling scheduling and prescription requests in a timely manner. The office is open 7 days a week with early morning and late evening appointments. As an emergency I took my cat. They did not inform me that they did not take checks, and on my CC funds were not available for 3 days. The ONLY person there sympathetic to me there was Tammy. They DID NOT run the labs until I called to pay. They even wanted to take the antibiotic away from me. Which I cried and begged them to just give me a syringe full for 3 days. Very very rude and no human dignity towards a sick animal!!!! They are just after your money. If you need a bit of help like I did, they do not give a damn. Just moved to the area and so glad to find this place thru yelp. Great team, clean place, organized, n efficient. Everyone I met was so friendly and helpful. I never felt rushed on the phone or in person. She's a hairy giant dog (Great Pyrenees) and grooming was only $48.50 which included nail trim, ear cleaning, n gland expression. Can't beat that! They even gave her a complimentary conditioning for her first time. She was due for her bordetella shot so they took care of that too along with a complimentary annual exam since we were new. Dr. Lai called me to go over the exam. She was so sweet and took time answering all my questions without pushing me to do any of the recommendations. Dr. Lai and the entire Animal Hospital of Irvine staff are an amazing team and truly care for their patients as if they were their own pets.  I have been going to Dr. Lai for over 10 years with my dog, Jordan, and cat, O'Malley, and she helped me get through both good and hard times with these two. I have relied heavily on her for advice on the best care for my aging pets and felt she not only did she know my pets well but she knows me well and was able to help me through some difficult times.  I have just recently adopted a new puppy who is a challenge and have appreciated Dr. Lai's opinion on the best route to take to keep this one safe and healthy.  I would HIGHLY recommend this vet to all my friends and family. We took our kitten here after she had been sneezing. The vet was so great and the staff is so friendly. The vet spent at least 35 minutes with us and explained what she thought was wrong with our kitten. We were looking at other vets in the area, but are so happy we chose to take her here. I took my cat in for an eye infection and the vet quickly diagnosed the problem and sent me home with some eye cream. The infection went away in a couple of days and my cat was back to her normal self :) The staff was very friendly and helpful. They even called a few days later to follow up on my cat's condition. I have been taking my dog here for boarding and baths for the past couple of years and I've never had a problem.  I can't say anything about vet services since I don't bring my dog here for the vet.The prices for boarding here is really good.  I've boarded my dogs at other places before for much more and less attention to the dogs.  All of the other boarding I know of only walk the dogs twice a day; however, Animal Hospital of Irvine walks the dogs three times a day and also lets each dog out for individual play time.  Obviously I can't verify whether they really do all those things but I'd like to believe so.  When I board my dog, we always provide the dog food and also ask them to mix some cooked chicken that we also provide since my dog is a picky eater.  They always agree to do that with no extra charge.  The first time I boarded my dog here, he was here for two weeks and I was an anxious parent during my trip. I emailed the staff for updates a couple of times during his stay and they always responded to my emails promptly.  The only thing that I wish could be better is that I wish they would give a report at the end of his stay just so I know how my dog was during his stay.  Other places that I've been to usually give a report card of some sort when you pick up your dog, but this place doesn't have that.The bathing here is also a very good deal compared to other places and includes nail trim, anal sac expression and ear cleaning, all of which would cost extra at other places.  They also do "sanitary trims" for free, which is basically just trimming the hair in the butt area.  I don't think they offer actual hair cut services though.  They seem to trim the nails pretty well the last time I checked but I've noticed that the freshly bathed dog smell disappears a lot sooner than when I wash my dog myself.  Maybe it's the shampoo they use, but I feel like my dog stays clean a couple more days longer when I wash him myself.  It's not really a big deal since they include so much more in the bath. On Thursday, August 11th while working on a job site my Husband was informed by a woman that a black kitten had just been run over. The woman asked my Husband if she knew the man who had hit the kitten, my husband did not. He ran over to the kitten seeing blood and bile next to it, immediately called me and asked who he should call. I advised my Husband to get a towel, wrap the kitten up and take the kitten to the nearest Vet. The kitten struggling to breathe and hold on for dear life, he knew that he had to take him to the nearest vet quickly which happened to be Animal Hospital of Irvine. Upon arriving their were people in the waiting room, which had appointments with their clinic. No one was behind the counter. My Husband begins to tell the people in the waiting room what happened in a panic, he is shaking. A person sitting in the waiting room starts hollering for a vet or front desk person. Anyone to help this kitten. They appeared and take the kitten back to the vet, they ask my husband if he will be taking financial responsibility for the kitten, in which he responded €no.€ A woman in the waiting room spoke up and start €I will take financial responsibility for this kitten, just save it€s life.€ The tech€s then brought the kitten back up to the front and informed my husband that they could not take this kitten and he would need to drive it to a 24 emergency clinic, because it was a matter of the Vet being busy with appointments! My husband says €What?! The kitten will not make it! It is rush hour traffic! The people in the waiting room heard this and ALL said €Don€t worry, we will wait, the kitten takes priority.€ My husband left, trusting that with the financial backing of the woman in the waiting room, Animal Hospital of Irvine would do all that they could to save the kittens life. After going back to the job site and finishing the job, my husband decided he was going to stop back by the Animal Hospital of Irvine to check on the status of the Kitten. He knew they closed at 7pm, but was hopeful at now 8pm, someone would still be there. He knocked on their front door and a tech came over and informed him she did not have the keys to open the door. He asked her, €Is the kitten okay? How is it doing? I will take financial responsibility if that woman could not.€ It was hard to hear exactly what the Tech was saying but he gathered something along the lines of €X-ray, everything looks good€€ So he waved and left. Today, Friday, August 12th My husband and I woke up with the kitten€s wellbeing on our minds and hearts! We have two adopted rescue cats of our own, both of us passionate advocates for helping animals. My husband called Animal Hospital of Irvine this morning. A woman answered the phone and tells him €The kitten was transported to €the hospital€ last night and has a home.€ She wouldn€t give my husband any additional information. My husband calls me and tells me that he has a weird feeling about their response regarding the kitten. Like they are hiding something, like the kitten's death. We called EVERY SINGLE 24 ANIMAL HOSPITAL within a 100 mile radius asking the one question€Was a black kitten transported last night from Animal Hospital of Irvine? We took our almost 2 year old cavalier for boarding this summer as our family was away.  During that time, Dr. Ichikawa called me to tell me about the raw marks on our dog's legs.  At first we thought it was a bad licking habit our dog developed at home, but she pointed out that it could be allergies and recommended putting our dog on antihistamine and topical spray for the infected areas.  She also suggested that we speak to Dr. Lai about the condition when we pick up our dog on the last day of boarding.  Meeting Dr. Lai was such a delight as she was kind, caring, and professional.  She explained the condition and went over the medication instructions clearly as well as giving us helpful tips to keep the allergies at bay.  Our dog is home now and we can see hair growing back on her raw areas and licking less with the medication.  I highly recommend Animal Hospital of Irvine to anyone! Dr Anne Lai is my favorite vet who is dedicated & truly great with my 110 lb German Shepard, Tess. At a recent exam, she found growth in her mid section & after blood tests etc, she diagnosed possible problem with her mammary glands & referred us to a vet surgeon for a expert removal. Cancer was a possibility. Tess is possible 11 years or older. Dr. Lai did mentioned that she could have done the sx but probably a surgery specialist would be best. Tess survived her Sx & is doing great. Thanks to Dr Lai early detection & referral to the specialist surgeon. We hope to have Tess for a few more years. Many thanks Dr Lai. Read Less

Animal Hospital of Irvine is a wonderful place! We have been taking our pets there for several years, and travel a long distance from our home to do so. I want the best for my furry little loved ones and won't settle for anything less! The quality of care from the vets to the techs to the front office staff is OUTSTANDING! Dr. Baumann is our veterinarian; Dr. Lai is excellent, too; my comments about Dr. Baumann apply to Dr. Lai, as well. They went to vet school together years ago, worked together in the same practice, and then opened their animal hospital. Dr. Baumann is extremely detail oriented and compassionate, involved in every aspect of her patients care, and always takes the time to answer my questions. The techs and front office staff are as equally friendly, kind and helpful. They have excellent boarding facilities for a great price. My pets have always responded well to Dr. Baumann and her staff. I was referred to Animal Hospital of Irvine by another dog owner I met at the Irvine Dog Park. She was adamant about the special care that the doctors provided to her dog who looks forward to going back for visits when necessary. I took my dog (Budd) for his first visit recently and also found the staff and doctor to be everything that was said by the referring dog owner. I was very impressed with the special attention provided to each dog and dog owner and the atmosphere of the office. The staff are very friendly and took excellent care of my rather scared pup. The vet and other staff did all they could to inform us on my pup's condition and to answer my other questions. I've appreciated the follow up calls to check on my pup's progress. Also, the office is in a handy location just off the 5, it was easy to get an appointment, and the reception was not busy. The free initial consultation was great. I also like how they give a written quote for the recommended procedures/medications before going ahead with anything. The folks there are super friendly from the counter staff to the vet tech to the veterinarian. Even though Bella was given a clear bill of health the Vet took time to just sit with her and make her feel comfortable and have a positive experience. Dr.B & Dr.L have been attending to my dogs for 15+ years and they along with their fantastic staff have been a blessing to our family. I needed to find a new vet in the area. Of course, I spent a ton of time looking at reviews and calling around. What caught my immediate attention was how thorough the receptionist was. She really seemed to know her stuff. I also like that they're open on Sundays which is a huge plus since I'm always working. The vet seemed very caring and spent a ton of time with us. I thought that my dog needed to have 3 vaccines since I received a reminder in the mail from my last vet. It turned out that he only needed one vaccine. My little chihuahua was very ill and in pain. I took him to this animal hospital, eventually seen by both vets, and he was completely misdiagnosed, under-medicated, and medical advise incorrect by staff as well. For months he suffered, literally crying out in pain. His symptoms worsened. Bloody diarrhea and blood in mouth. It was horrifying. Tests were taken, but they were misread, as I found out later by taking him to several other vets. I stood vigil night after night, watching over him, soothing him, knowing something was wrong that they were missing. And, thank God I was right, and he is alive today to share this e-mail with you. His signs and symptoms showed that he had worms. The vets never even suggested that this could be a cause. Fecals were fine. However, I have been a dog owner all my life, and not once has a fecal actually shown parasites when parasites were present. Vet 101. It doesn't hurt the animal to rule out parasites out by giving medication for deworming, especially since his signs and symptoms were indicative of worms. In the meantime, he suffered greatly until he got pancreatitis and intractable irritable bowel disease. I didn't realize that the dosage of medication that would have prevented him from suffering was so low that it helped him not. It looked the same as other vets have given me when he had diarrhea. He nearly died a couple of times, and actually, I was even thinking that he could not take the pain any longer, and that I would have to put him to sleep. I called several times. I talked to the doctors repeatedly. Kept taking him in. A vet called me who had never even seen him when I placed an urgent call--he was bleeding out of his mouth and bottom, weak, crying, whimpering. Under their care, he had became worse and worse. After that, I took him to six vets, with little help, save one. Finally, a new friend recommended a new vet to me. I took my dog's records in. He diagnosed him promptly. Spent hours with me on the phone and in person. Contradicted what those vets had diagnosed, showed me on the x-rays what they had missed completely. He helped me save his life. My dog will be on meds for the rest of his life because of the misdiagnosis, for the worms and direct lack of care affected his internal organs. So not only did I pay a small fortune for his care there, I am paying out of my pocket monthly now. I spoke with the vet about receiving my money back for lack of proper diligence so that the money I gave them could go to his present and current care. I told her that I was not angry, to accept this experience as lesson learned next time a dog of his age comes in with those symptoms, they will know what to do. This could save another animal's life! However, our conversation was dismissed. I did not receive any further acknowledgment. I had his records sent to my new vet, and his records were conveniently handwritten very neatly, using the words I had used after talking to the vet. I believe they were altered to protect themselves. I cannot prove this point, but it is my belief, I am sad to say. It is sad that people cannot express their mistakes. People make mistakes all the time. I was hoping our conversation would lead to more knowledge for them--and for me--to make them better healers. Not the case here.
