We have been patrons of Camino Pet Hospital and Dr. Aaron Shoolman for about 25 years, for five cats over that time. Dr. Shoolman and CPH have always been fantastic -- able to examine a sick cat at a moment's notice, extremely knowledgeable and skilled, exceptionally compassionate to both our pets and ourselves, and very fair and reasonable in all transactions. I recommend Dr. Shoolman and the Camino Pet Hospital enthusiastically! We've been taking our two dogs here since they were 8 weeks old, and now they're 3! The staff is always friendly and empathetic when our dogs aren't feeling well. Their prices are fair and they have great hours. We rarely have a hard time getting in. If we need a same day appointment, they've always managed to squeeze us in. The doctors are kind, knowledgeable, and answer our million questions with patience. When our dog was recently sick very late at night over the weekend, we were able to speak to our veterinarian within minutes. She was off but took our call, listened to our problem, and advised us to take our dog to the nearest animal hospital rather than wait to see her on Monday. They truly care about our dogs, give excellent advice and care, and will continue to be our veterinarian for years to come! Read Less

Sage, my mini-schnauzer, was in the best care for her entire life at this pet hospital. Thanks to Dr. Shoolman. One thing to note is that you should go with his advice. He intends for your pet to live a full and happy life. Sometimes the price is small, and other times it's very high, but regardless, he has your pet's best interests in mind. Doctors and staff are truly grade A. They know you and your pets. Their care and opinions are genuinely administered and expressed, straightforwardly, with dignity and with the absolute best interest of all involved. You and your furry family members are not treated as a pay check or a statistic. You do not have to follow up with them, they will call you (on weekends and evenings) just to check on things! This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the vet is very nice and helpful. Other times he comes off rude. My dog had a lump that seemed very tender so I asked the vet to check it out and he said "if it hurts him then don't touch the lump" and never even looked at the lump.Read Less

I like the location because I live close by. The prices I can't afford although I live here in Irvine I'm not rich. It's a nice vet but I need to go back to the low cost vet long wait but I can't pay $1000 every month for my pet. I've been 3 times for the same thing poodle allergy medicine and blood work didn't fix it I am pretty sure it's time to try something else. This vet is for people who don't care about cost for average people like me I can't do $300-700 average cost per visit. I need to add my dog has no special diseases and is 2 years old. Sort of hit or miss.  Sometimes the front office staff is rude, depending on who you speak with.  Dr. Shoolman is a bit old-school, and can also be impatient. One thing I don't care for is that they take your pet from the room in order to weigh him/her, whereas most vets have a scale in the room or in the waiting area for large dogs.  For some pets, this is an added stressor.  Overall, sometimes great, sometimes not-so-great. Our Yorkiepoo has been coming here since he was pretty much born. Great staff. I've had other dogs and wish I was able to bring them here before. They are honest and don't take advantage like alot of other places. Other great thing is they have a emergency number you can call, describe them the issue and they will inform you with any info and help. Two thumbs up.Read Less

Dr. S has taken care of my little ATTIS since he was barely born, he's so wonderful! he answers all of my questions, and makes sure they're all answered before he leaves the room! he's so gentle with my little pup, and even though i drive like 25 miles, it's totally worth it! Dr. Schoolman, Dr. O'Neil, and all the vet techs at Camino Pet Hospital are fantastic! I was referred by a friend to Camino about a year ago and haven't stopped coming since. The environment is clean and quiet. Whenever I bring one of my dogs in, for any reason, they always keep me updated on how they are doing. Dr. Schoolman has been our doctor for our son Maximus since we got him and love his service. Dr. Schoolman is so knowledgeable that we always feel at ease once his seen Max if we take him in. I would highly recommend Dr. Schoolman as we have trusted him with Max well being for over 5 yrs now. The express anal gland and deep teeth cleaning are added service we get for Maximus every so often. The staff are friendly too. The girls at the reception /check in desk are rude and stuck up. This place was dirty and over charged me for a rabies shot my dog was not due for. And they never called me to give me the status of my dogs surgery or the ok to pick him up. Never, never again will I take my sweet dog to this place! I felt like they discriminate! I wish I could put 0 stars. This is the worst vet I've ever been to. We had to take our puppy here because it's where the pet store had told us to go. The staff is very rude. I told them multiple times that the name of my dog was incorrect and they never fixed it. So every time we would call it take 10-15 minutes for them to figure out who I was and who my dog was. The dr there is not professional at all and can't answer any questions you have. The staff as well. I recommend you stay away from this place. Read Less

Place is rude and dont listen to you when you tell them something. Told them several times to cha ge the name for my dog and didnt so everytime we call we waste 20 plus minutes trying to find my dogs information each time i call. Plus the doctor is short and doesnt explain anythind and i feel their advice was found by quoting the first google answer they find. Not professional at all. I purchased a puppy from Barkworks in Cerritos and this vet I guess works with them because they do let you know that you have a week to bring the puppy in for a free checkup. Well first red flag should have been when I was told I had a week to take a puppy to see a bet. Well, I noticed my puppy started coughing and I called and made my appointment. Once I got to the pet hospital I didn't really have to wait much I saw Dr. shoolman he was a bit rude when I was asking questions- he lets me know that my puppy has bronchitis and she also has parasites. I was never told what type of parasites she had I was given medication for her to take to kill the parasites and also medication for her bronchitis which I was supposed to take for 10 days. Now, I went to see the vet June 15 the medication EXPIRED JUNE 18 and I was supposed to give that to my puppy for 10 days !!!! What on earth !!! So I go back the next day asking if they can exchange my medicine or give me sown thing different and I am told that they ran out and if they ordered it, it would take a long time to get here. Obviously it's a lie anyways, I was told that the doctor said it was okay for me to give my puppy expired medication and then the lady in the front still tells me "thank you for noticing though " I paid full price for the medication and they didn't offer to give me my money back. This place is a joke- they should take expired medication! I took my puppy to another vet and I was given a full report of what is wrong with her-it turns out she has giardia. I would have never known. They are not helpful at all they are NOTHING MORE THAN A SCAM. Don't bring your fur baby here if you want to make them get better. They only care about making their money so, so sad. I have filed my complaint with the state, this place should be shut down. Read Less

Dr Oneill is amazing but Dr Schoolman is an arrogant and rude man who tried to upcharge me. I moved to long beach so anything that isn't an emergency would be handled closer to my home. When my dog was sick I took him here and he tried charging me extra for things my dog didn't need and had a horrible attitude. I saw a male doctor today who blatantly called me a liar made me feel extremly uncomfortable and uneasy about my visit. I was told by another doctor there and the front staff my dog developed kennel cough when he was given his vaccinations, this was because the kennel cough was already dormant and the vaccinations brought it out. I am more disgusted at the professionalism the doctor provided, my jaw dropped down to the ground when he called me a liar not just once but twice saying his staff would never say that to me when they clearly did not just once but twice. Then he sent me away with my poor dog who has a terrible terrible cough keeping him up all night along with nothing to give him but some Robitussin cough syrup which I have already been doing per their advice for the last 2 months and he advised to continue to give it to him for up to 4 more months.... He then rudely walked out of the room without even a smile or a goodbye, I had to figure out that he was done with my appointment myself. I had no complaints prior to this appointment I'm just more upset at how they treat their customers and the poor animals. I actually really enjoyed the front stuff, the ladies there are super nice and very helpful and very friendly. My complaint is mainly based on the veterinarian male doctor alone. I love this hospital. I've been reading the comments about overpriced and I had the complete opposite. My dog had a complete tear of her ACL and he was $1800.00 cheaper than our other vet and $500.00 cheaper than a 2nd opinion. He took excellent care of our dog and calls to follow up. He is open and is willing to take calls at anytime of the night. We found a new vet. I'm so grateful to a friend that referred us. Read Less

This place is great!  The staff is amazing, friendly, compassionate, and easy to work with.Dr. Jennifer O'Neill, thank you so much for all that you did for our Pug, Toby.  Dr. O made sure that his last year was one of the best.  We came to Camino Pet Hospital when we adopted  a Chihuahua and they became the vet for our long time Pug as well.  When we first visited Toby had a large mass on his groin and the staff and Dr. O were fast and easy to work with to get it removed.  We were anxious at first because of his age, but everything was a success and it gave him another year of happiness.  That old man turned into a puppy once again!Well, just this last weekend we had to make the tough decision to put Toby out of his pain.  About a month ago Toby tumor returned and it was bigger and more aggressive.  So, we met with Dr. O'Neill and she gave us the information we needed and did not persuade us either way (surgery, letting him live it out, or putting him to sleep) which was much appreciated.  She just gave us food for thought.  Well, it took about a week or so to think about it and we just couldn't help but see that he was in pain and tired.  The office staff scheduled us at late notice (literally that morning) for a time where not too many other people would be in; to give us as much privacy as possible.  They made the process as easy as possible and I'm glad that Dr. O'Neill developed such a relationship with Toby that he wasn't scared to go into the office, not afraid when she came into the exam room, he was okay.  To top it off Dr. O'Neill even sent us a personally signed letter sending her condolences.  These people are great.  Thank you all so much, we will be back for many more years with whatever dogs we have.  Thank you for making Toby's last year a great one, and being there to help us make a very tough decision.  You all are great! Dr. Shoolman is a very thorough vet who has been in practice at this location for more than 20 years. I Erik with a cat recur, and often have run-of-the-mill illnesses needing medication. He can quickly diagnose and prescribe medication. One of my favorite things is that he carries chewable tablets for many common medication, which some vets don't. If you have any pets who fight you during fluid medication administration (which, by the way, is normal, untless it becomes extremely violent after several days of attempts and you are then no longer willing to adhere to the treatment plan) this is an excellent option. My foster is enjoying his medication as though it's a chicken-flavored treat! Happy with my experience, and while certain vet treatments here seem more expensive than usual (surgery, for rexample), I cannot recommend Dr Schoolman for highly for lesser ailments. Read Less

I came in with a free checkup from the rescue I got my kitten from. With an appointment there was a bit of a wait, but the inside was clean and quiet.Once we went into the room the doctor shook my hand and introduced himself. He seemed nice and approachable. He immediately started checking out our kitten thoroughly and allowed me to listen to her heartbeat through his stethoscope. He also addressed my concern of an upper respiratory infection. He then tells me she needs her FIV and FeLV tests and a fecal test as well as her next shots, then takes her out and says he will be right back. He comes back after a bit and let's me know the feline AIDS test is $75! He also had done the fecal test without informing me about the cost of the test. Luckily the test wasn't very expensive.After thinking he had also performed the FIV & FeLV tests I find out at checkout he had NOT done them. I was happy to hear that but wasn't happy that nothing had been communicated very clearly. It was great for a free exam however I would not come back. I have local vets who are cheaper and I can go to Golden state humane society for a feline AIDS test at less than 1/3 the cost. thank you for donating free exams to many rescues. Read Less

I took my puppy here for a "complimentary" visit, the dr is very nice as is the rest of the staff, the place is clean and cute. BUT they totally ripped me off. Similar to other reviews I was told I needed to buy a 6 month supply of Trifexis, the dosage is for a dog 5-10 pounds- needless to say my Shiba inu puppy is now 8 pounds and will soon exceed 10 pounds. So I paid 120$ for a one month supply of Trifexis! Shame on you Camino pet hospital! There is no way that this experienced doctor doesn't realize that puppies grow and that he's ripped everyone off. I tried not to be upset by this situation but after seeing other reviews with the same complaint Im so disappointed. I just wanted to do what's best for my puppy and keep him healthy so when he said I needed this I trusted him. Obviously will not be returning and would not recommend. Read Less
