Our family has trusted IVS since we got the first of our three puppies in 1981. They are now caring for our third long-haired chihuahua and take their work very seriously, while being friendly and welcoming - to both animals and people. Recently, during a routine check they detected a heart murmur in our little guy and though not inexpensive, they were able to arrange for a cardiology specialist to do a complete workup on him in a matter of days. We have appreciated the senior discount that they apply to every service and product they sell. When we have occasion to board our dogs there, we feel no guilt or anxiety. We know they are getting the royal treatment! Read Less

We adore him, he is wonderful and caring and doesn't suggest costly procedures unless they are absolutely necessary. He also has rescued many Shih Tzu puppies that were going to be euthanized, and nursed them back to health and made them part of his family at home. You will love him. He is the finest. Read Less

I must say that Dr. Kay is the absolute BEST.  She caught a very faint heart arrhythmia when checking our bichon frise, Baxter, for fleas (YES we went into the vet for flea medication and when she took the time to listen to his heartbeat, she identified a potentially dangerous heart murmur).   Since he wasn't showing any signs or symptoms, we had no idea that our little guy was sick.  But her patience and diligence caught the issue and we immediately had an X-ray performed which disclosed that he has an enlarged heart.  Not more than a week later, Dr. Brewer was able to perform an EKG and confirm that because we caught the issue so early, we don't need to put Bax on medication for another year or so.  But without Dr. Kay, we never would have known the issue even existed. In fact, when we brought in Bax for boarding this weekend, the other vet didn't even identify the arrhythmia on his chart- that's how faint it was.  We are so grateful she caught this so early, so we can monitor the issue and provide medication when necessary.  Thank you Dr. Kay!!! I recently adopted a kitten from the Irvine Animal Shelter and took my cat here for a physical exam. Two things made me regret this:1. As a first time pet parent, I researched beforehand what the exam should entail and how to prepare my cat. I was quite disappointed that the vet did not do some of the steps the exam should entail, according to petcha.com (petcha.com/what-to-expec…): Observe the kitten for a minute or two before performing the physical exam - Definitely did not doWash their hands prior to touching your kitten - Did not doOpen the kitten's mouth, check the eyes and ears with lighted instruments - Did not doetc.2. The exam is supposed to be free, if you adopt from the Irvine Animal Shelter. I was told to bring in a stool sample. There was no mention of cost until the very last minute, when I was heading out, that I owe $80+. I certainly am not going to skimp my kitten on care, and if it costs to have a stool analysis, I am willing to pay for it. But it's poor communication and trust practice to not mention the additional charge of something until the last minute. After doing more research on vet clinics in Irvine, I realized this place had one of the lowest reviews and highest prices. Read Less

My tri pawd rescue German Shepherd, Maya was seen several times for female related issues and was never diagnosed or treated for the problem. Everytime I took Maya in they always charged exorbitant charges and given antibiotics that never worked. After being seen one time at Alicia Vet Care, Maya was given an ultrasound and found to be in severe heat and rushed in for a hysterectomy. After Alicia Letterman left things were never the same . They are only concerned about money and not your pet. They actually told me on Maya's last visit that her spleen was full of fluid and most likely cancer. I discovered my cat had fleas and needed to take her to a vet right away. Irvine Veterinary Services was the closest clinic near my house so I decided to try it out. I called to make an appointment Friday afternoon and was able to get scheduled for Saturday morning. The facility itself is quaint and well-maintained. I was greeted by a very nice lady at the front desk, who couldn't get enough of my cat. After signing the paperwork, I was called within five minutes. My cat took a liking to Dr. Morse, who has a warm personality (you can tell she loves cats!). She examined my cat and confirmed she did have fleas; however she was not infested which was great news. She recommended a flea medication called Revolution, which treats and prevents both fleas and ear mites. She also had my cat's ears flushed since they were filled with gunk. When my cat was returned to me, I was surprised at how much cleaner her ears looked! When it was time to pay, I asked if there was any way I could pay a lower price for the Revolution medication since the 6-month supply recommended to me was worth over $130. The receptionist said that I could instead order a 3-month supply to cut my cost down to $75. The only catch would be that I would have to wait 3-4 business days for the meds to be shipped to my house. No biggie, I saved a lot of money that way! I will definitely return to this clinic when my cat needs another physical/vaccine. Read Less

When I first got my dog, I came here as my primary vet. I knew it was expensive but always felt that my dog was receiving good care. As time went on, I found a more affordable vet but felt I could use this as a back up since they're open on Sundays.  Today I went in since my dog had been having diarrhea and was vomiting for the last 2.5 days and she didn't want to eat her food this morning. Her stomach has always been a bit sensitive and I've gone in for the same reasons in the past. I was surprised to see that the majority of vets that were there a few years ago are now gone. The one I was comfortable with was on maternity leave but I wanted my dog to be seen today so I took a chance. After my dog was examined, the assistant came in with an estimate of over $900 for all the recommended treatment.  They've never done anything like this in the past and my dog wasn't in any worse shape than before.  I'm disappointed in how things have changed. Not only is it expensive but I feel like they're potentially subjecting your dog to painful/uncomfortable procedures for the sake of making a buck.  I felt like I was being preyed on during a stressful time. I left my dog there to get some of the tests done around 10 am and picked her up around 3 pm.  The doctor had prescribed flagyl for her and I was told that I needed to give a dose to her right away when I got home. It seemed odd that they didn't give one to her when she had been there for 5 hours. In any case, the front desk staff was really nice and helpful.  They're going to help me send in a claim to my dog insurance company. Read Less

I came here last night with my new pup and had her looked at by one of the doctors here. I thought it was a fine visit, very informative and what Dr. Feng brought to light about our breed was incredibly thoughtful. I looked at some of the reviews prior to taking my new pup here, and they're a bit scattered (which I expected). When there is a trauma any good pet-parent will enthusiastically detail the interactions they have with all staff members and can be biased, but these physicians are trained to remain calm as to provide the best professional care. We asked Dr. Feng about cropping and, though she voiced her own opinions, was honest and let us know that she wasn't too familiar or experienced with performing such a surgery and whether any of the other doctors at IVS did either. Ultimately, we settled on the pre-paid puppy package which I thought was standard pricing for shots considering I've done this before (the oldest having had them 5 years before, but at another hospital). I think they did a fine job with Alpha, even providing a make-shift "obstacle course" because we feared she might have an issue with blindness. Dr. Feng didn't have to do that. All-in-all, I look forward to having Alpha visit Dr. Feng at least for the remainder of her puppy series and hopefully after that Read Less

Read Less

This vet is expensive but you get what you pay for. We love, love, love Dr. Kay. She gets down on the floor and loves on our puppies like they are her own. She is definitely a dog person, in fact I bet she likes dogs better than people. Office staff is friendly and not stressed out at all. The file system is a bit mysterious (What are they doing? Four people working at the front desk and it still takes probably 10 minutes to get checked in and out. But they make up for it in kindness.) Overall a very nice place. Read Less

Two appointments, both with young vets. Delightful and attentive. My first visit was the first check up for my newly adopted rescue dog. He was skittish, and as Min-Pen, kind of a biter. Challenging.

We brought our new little Morkie here for his shots and ended up buying the shot package which turned out to be a great deal. I just have to say that we love Dr. Cole. He is by far the best vet I've ever been too and what makes him even better is that he absolutely loves animals and Dexter is uber excited every time he gets to see Dr. Cole! I've never trusted a vet like I trust him. He's genuine and you can tell he's just a great person that is in the career he was meant to be in.We had a little emergency scare and I called his office, he called me back within just a few minutes to reassure me that everything was ok.I can't tell you how much we love Dr. Cole and his staff! IVS has always given our pets the very best care no matter what the issue. Their boarding facility is top notch and, upon returning, our pets have always been in the best health and condition. The most important reason for our many years as a patron is the very loving care received by our pet. Let's face it, they are challenged with the care of a "family loved one" and they go above and beyond to meet as well as surpass that!
