Dr. Jennifer takes great care of my bunny Bink. She knows what she is doing and I respect her as a veterinarian. Highly recommend her for bunnies to be seen for neutering, GI stasis, and health checks. We went here recently to fix a small problem that could have gotten bigger if we didn't go see Dr. Jennifer. Cost to visit is $68. Worth the information alone! Cost are resonable and pets are happy and healthy. Read Less

The services Northwood provides is always top notch. Of the many veterinarians that are closer our place, it is worth the drive from Costa Mesa to Irvine for our bunny. I am appreciative and grateful for the expertise knowledge that the doctors at Northwood have for exotic animals, in particular, for rabbits. I feel safe and confident with the answers and information they give me when it comes to taking care of my rabbit. The prices for the services Northwood offers is worth every penny because I know my pet is in excellent hands with the care they give him. Thank you Northwood and every single staff member for everything that you do for our rabbit. I feel the love and care every time I step through the front door. =) Read Less

I will give a stronger review once the very capable doctors are able to provide diagnosis and treatment WITHOUT the additional fees that should come once the initial and thoroughly executed treatments do not work. I do feel that there was an excessive amount of time and extra work done for the result that was anticipated from the very first day that could have been thoroughly executed. After having been at another very initially and seeing that treatment was escalating, I went back to Northwood. They had treated my pet foot vomiting due to a food reaction successfully a few years ago. They had tried to do the Upcharges and were a bit expensive so I tried another closer location. I would come back again, but I would like to see the changes occur to keep my visits and gain referrals. They did not due a full evacuation of bowels the first day, they wanted to go home and asked I come back the next day to continue. Upon leaving my pet the day, he seemed to continue to get worse per the calls. The tests needed and treatment climbed. I felt from my experience that these were excessive. I was right. The treatment that should have been completed the initial visit were what was needed. The bill would have been HALF. Since they added a few items that were discussed to be needed the NEXT day if the bowel evacuation was not successful. I think the evacuation was the necessary treatment and they knew I would not be back the next day to get the additional charges to make their production and profit. Please, be the change. EVERYONE is doing this and then are not as educated or talented as vets. Earn the karma and profits the traditional AMERICAN way: medium price and GREAT results/service. Thank you and I hope to come back to see this business model enacted. Read Less

I’ve been going to Northwood Animal Hospital since the late 80’s, first with my thirty seven year old double yellow headed amazon who is still a happy patient and with my dogs since the 90’s. The staff and doctors have all been very helpful, courteous and concerned. I wish my own physician would provide the same level of care and concern. There’s always a follow up call from the treating physician to see how the patient is doing. Dr. Pursley has been my parrot’s favorite and mine as well. Dr. P will do whatever research is necessary to see my pets get the best treatment available and spend however much time is needed to speak in person and by phone. Dr. Pursley is amazing!!!  I brought our 4-year old guinea pig in for an unknown problem.  He was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection.  The infection was so bad, he needed to be hospitalized for 2 nights.  Dr. Pursley was so concerned, she even brought him home with her BOTH NIGHTS in order to wake up in the middle of the night to express his bladder. [She said her husband fell in love with him and that I was lucky I was getting him back.  :)  ]  When I picked him up she trained me how to do it myself, as well as how to give subcutaneous fluids.  She or her staff have called every day to check on his progress.  We couldn't ask for better care and treatment of our little guy.  Thank you Northwood Animal Hospital! I use Northwood Animal Hospital for all my pets and consider them family! They provide high quality care and are conscious of the costs to me - often telling me when a special is taking place or if there are coupons available. With a houseful of pets this is very helpful! Most importantly they treat my pet family members the same as their own pets and go out of their way to make sure they are healthy and happy. They also take steps to provide a sense of community among their clients with special pet included events like cookouts and taking part in philanthropic community events. I drove all the way from LA to this animal hospital because I needed a rabbit specialist to tend to my bunny when he was sick, and my local vet was out for the day.Northwood knows bunnies, and they take good care of your rabbit.  They might even be on the side of overkill when it comes to prescriptions and whatnot.  And they are on the pricier side.  My rabbit had GI stasis.  He has had it before, so I made sure to keep him hydrated until he could see the vet.  The vet here gave me a bit of a scare, saying she wanted to do xrays and tests to make sure his body wasn't failing him from kidney failure.  I cried, thinking I was going to lose my rabbit.  It turns out he just had GI stasis. They gave me two bags filled with medications and food to keep him healthy.  My other vet only gave me a small bag with pain killer and metacam and whatnot.  My bunny recovered the same from both experiences, so I'm not sure if all the extras are necessary.  Overall, they did the job.  I just think they get a bit overly cautious, and it can scare the fur baby's parents. I took my baby (9 year old Yorkshire) here, because she looked like she was in so much pain...I thought it was an emergency so I booked an emergency appointment. When I arrived people greeted me and made sure my dog was okay. The veterinarian who came to see my dog was so professional and it took her no more than 10 minutes to figure out what was upsetting my dog. She also ran some blood work on her and called me the next day to explain the break down and how I should go about continuing to care for my dog. She even offered for me to call her anytime I had any questions. But onto the billing: an emergency appointment is $100 I believe, but they only charged me the first time appointment fee of $35. I just had to pay that plus the blood work which was $199 and some medication fees. But anywho...I'm just glad my doggie is okayyyyyy.Thank you!!! Read Less

We LOVE Dr. Pursley! We first started coming here when our two Mountain Mastiffs were 4 months old, and Dr. Pursley has been amazing with us and our babies. They are now almost 8-years-old (yes, this review is LONG overdue), and we trust her with their health. Since they are large breed dogs, we have had health concerns regarding their joints, cancer, thyroid, allergies, and ear infections. She has been helpful in making sure that they get the care they need, but also makes sure that we have the information we need to make the right financial decisions for our 'fur' family and family as a whole (we have 3 human kids too). We feel blessed that she has been in our lives these last 8 years. If you are looking for a vet for your new fur babies, or need a trust worthy vet for your veteran pet, we highly recommend Dr. Pursley to be your trusted 'fur' doctor. With regard to th staff and scheduling, they are extremely friendly and easy to work with. Most of the time we go in, we have 2-3 kids with us, plus 1-2 animals. They are always friendly, even when my son is climbing on the dogfood [or peeing on a tree outside...not just for animals :)]. We have been coming to Northwood Animal Hospital for over 25 years. We can't think of going to any other animal hospital. We feel grateful that we found them. We've been through a lot.     The care starts when we walk through the door. The behind the counter staff is very friendly, curious, and helpful. Progressing into the examination room, the internal staff is pleasant, efficient, kind, and friendly as well. We do not worry about handing over one our beloved pets to any of the staff.     We can't say enough about the vet staff: Dr. Gayle Roberts, Dr. Hanna Chi-Shan, and Dr. Jennifer Pursley. This is dedicated and competent group of doctors.     Through the years, we have lost many of our cherished animals. The kindness and understanding was greatly appreciated. This hospital offers numerous prescription dog foods and cat foods. There hypoallergenic dog biscuits are a special treat for our gang. We have a cat on the prescription fat cat diet. It seems to help curb her carbs. The dogs eat JD dry and wet for joints, ID dry and wet for sensitive tummies.     With a dog with a neck issue, and another with arthritic hips and lower back, we have used the cold laser and acupuncture to help them stay comfortable.     We highly recommend Northwood Animal Hospital for anyone's valuable family member. Saved our dog! Our beagle-mix dog injured his back jumping off the bed, but the injury wasn't obvious because he seemed normal at the time. In the days following the jump off the bed, he started getting diarrhea, walking slowly--just being less active, even to the point of not eating to where his weight dropped from 35lbs to 30 lbs. We took him to one vet who did a some test, full blood work, then other tests, cause we were thinking; the problem was just that he had an upset stomach or internal infection. After a week of not finding out what was wrong with him, I called Northwood Animal Hospital and explained all this to them. The assistant listened to everything we explained, and said that she had one opening in just 30 min so we took our dog to them as we lived 15 min away. The technician listened then the doctor Gayle Roberts listened to everything that I explained, they requested all the previous tests from the other vet, and then Dr. Roberts studied the previous vets test notes for about 10 min, reading silently...she then asked about our comments in the other vets notes about our dog jumping off of the bed. She then did some reflex tests on his back feet and said that she thought he had a back injury. The injury was not easy to spot as our dog had been tested for injury by the other vet when we mentioned him jumping off the bed...Dr. Roberts prescribed an anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling in his spine. About an hour and a half later after giving the medication, our dog was laying on the bed almost with a smile on his face...wagging his tail. A few hours later in the day, he came into the kitchen looking for food! He ate normally for the first time in about a week! He looked at me wagging his tail walking around the apartment almost as if he was telling me thank you....thank Dr. Roberts for helping return our dog back to his normal happy self! It turned out to be cancerous and Dr. Roberts performed the surgery. Lulu recovered incredibly quick since Dr. Roberts is an amazing surgeon. AHI vets and staff are the best. Our cats get wonderful care for a long healthy life, and the vets always take the time to answer all our questions and provide advice on any behavioral issues that may come up. We've brought our pets to Dr. Baumann and Dr. Lai for almost ten years, they've seen us through the pain of losing beloved senior pets, and the joy of adopting shelter kitties to complete our family. I have been going to this veterinary hospital since 1987 (maybe it was early 1988)! I have been there with Zinfandel ? a yellow female lab who lived to be almost 16, Zeta ? a black female lab who lived to be almost 15, Zoe ? a chocolate female lab who lived to be almost 14. I now patronize them with Zuleka, an eight-year-old yellow female lab, Zacary, a seven-year-old black male lab, and Zenya, a four-year-old chocolate female lab. I've also had various visiting dogs who've been treated as necessary by Drs. Roberts and Fife. This veterinary hospital is absolutely great. The vets truly care about your animals, and provide you with and explain all the options. They're open to alternative therapies, which I really appreciate. They also have great staff who are extremely helpful. I can't say enough about how great the whole experience is of going to Northwood Animal Hospital. My dogs have always loved it there too ;-) that is, they're not afraid or apprehensive when we get there. Check them out ... and tell them I sent you ;-) Read Less

I needed to find a new vet in the area. Of course, I spent a ton of time looking at reviews and calling around. What caught my immediate attention was how thorough the receptionist was. She really seemed to know her stuff. I also like that they're open on Sundays which is a huge plus since I'm always working. The vet seemed very caring and spent a ton of time with us. I thought that my dog needed to have 3 vaccines since I received a reminder in the mail from my last vet. It turned out that he only needed one vaccine. I was so happy that he didn't need to get 3 and it saved me over $30! Finally, a compassionate vet who isn't thinking about the money first. Read Less

My little chihuahua was very ill and in pain. I took him to this animal hospital, eventually seen by both vets, and he was completely misdiagnosed, under-medicated, and medical advise incorrect by staff as well. For months he suffered, literally crying out in pain. His symptoms worsened. Bloody diarrhea and blood in mouth. It was horrifying. Tests were taken, but they were misread, as I found out later by taking him to several other vets. I stood vigil night after night, watching over him, soothing him, knowing something was wrong that they were missing. And, thank God I was right, and he is alive today to share this e-mail with you. His signs and symptoms showed that he had worms. The vets never even suggested that this could be a cause. Fecals were fine. However, I have been a dog owner all my life, and not once has a fecal actually shown parasites when parasites were present. Vet 101. It doesn't hurt the animal to rule out parasites out by giving medication for deworming, especially since his signs and symptoms were indicative of worms. In the meantime, he suffered greatly until he got pancreatitis and intractable irritable bowel disease. I didn't realize that the dosage of medication that would have prevented him from suffering was so low that it helped him not. It looked the same as other vets have given me when he had diarrhea. He nearly died a couple of times, and actually, I was even thinking that he could not take the pain any longer, and that I would have to put him to sleep. I called several times. I talked to the doctors repeatedly. Kept taking him in. A vet called me who had never even seen him when I placed an urgent call--he was bleeding out of his mouth and bottom, weak, crying, whimpering. Under their care, he had became worse and worse. After that, I took him to six vets, with little help, save one. Finally, a new friend recommended a new vet to me. I took my dog's records in. He diagnosed him promptly. Spent hours with me on the phone and in person. Contradicted what those vets had diagnosed, showed me on the x-rays what they had missed completely. He helped me save his life. My dog will be on meds for the rest of his life because of the misdiagnosis, for the worms and direct lack of care affected his internal organs. So not only did I pay a small fortune for his care there, I am paying out of my pocket monthly now. I spoke with the vet about receiving my money back for lack of proper diligence so that the money I gave them could go to his present and current care. I told her that I was not angry, to accept this experience as lesson learned next time a dog of his age comes in with those symptoms, they will know what to do. This could save another animal's life! However, our conversation was dismissed. I did not receive any further acknowledgment. I had his records sent to my new vet, and his records were conveniently handwritten very neatly, using the words I had used after talking to the vet. I believe they were altered to protect themselves. I cannot prove this point, but it is my belief, I am sad to say. It is sad that people cannot express their mistakes. People make mistakes all the time. I was hoping our conversation would lead to more knowledge for them--and for me--to make them better healers. Not the case here. I hugely recommend you see another vet. You can contact me anytime so that you can speak to the vet that helped me save his life. In the meantime, be well. By the way, the vet that saved his life is Dr. Kavanaugh at Saddleback vet clinic in Tustin. He is awesome. Thank you, Dr. Kananaugh. Read Less

Read Less

When I arrived people greeted me and made sure my dog was okay. She also ran some blood work on her and called me the next day to explain the break down and how I should go about continuing to care for my dog. She even offered for me to call her anytime I had any questions. But onto the billing: an emergency appointment is $100 I believe, but they only charged me the first time appointment fee of $35. We LOVE Dr. Staff was friendly, inviting, understanding and very informative.  I didn't leave the hospital more confused and distraught then I already was.  They put me and my dog at ease.  Dr Hsu is the best.  She spent as much time with me as I needed and I did not feel rushed.  More importantly my dog Lady was very comfortable with her.  I will continue to bring my dog here and will recommend family and friends!  The facility is clean, the hours are convenient and they offer a wide variety of services and have a great membership plan.  Thank you Northwood Animal Hospital! DO NOT BRING EXOTIC PETS/RABBITS HERE! They advertise that they have experience treating rabbits, but could not treat my rabbit for a very common problem! My rabbit had GI stasis, very easily treated with meds. The vet would not prescribe the regular prescription for stasis as she was worried that he had swallowed a foriegn body. 2 visits and $800.00 later, they told me to let him die!!Fortunately, i sought a second opinion (thank you ALL CREATURES COTTAGE in costa mesa!!) My little bunny recieved the appropriate treatment (one simple prescription) and was fine within hours. And the office visit to the second place, All Creatures Cottage, was only $80.00.This place price gouges and delivered terrible care!!DO NOT TAKE YOUR BELOVED PETS HERE! Read Less

Seriously, a ton of gratitude, awesome job! Read Less

Kananaugh. Read Less
