They do a great job explaining what they are doing, and why, and explaining the bill.  If there are things needed for your animal that can wait until a future visit, they'll let you know, and it'll save you some money on your bill that day. We've been coming here for.close to 5 years so I'm not sure how we haven't reviewed them yet! We love Lindsey and all the vets! We spend around $5,000 a year at the vet between our 3 pets so we see the people in this often sometimes more often than we would like to! They never oversell you or push you into things just for the sake of an upcharge. They do the fastest nail trims and keep a nice clean facility. We love them! Read Less

If you've seen my profile, you know how much I love my pets.  And so far this place has answered my prayers. They're minutes from me.   They're reasonable, they don't upsell, they don't give up on the sick and elderly pets we love so much, and dr. Christine Wilson seems to genuinely love animals, unlike some of the stranger clinics I have had experiences with. They get right to treating your sick pets rather than push for more and more testing. I got recommended to this veterinary clinic by multiple people and I am very satisfied with my decision. I brought my female calico in to be checked out due to self mutation from over scratching. Lindsey in particular was super sweet and helpful both on the phone and in person, but so is everyone else there. The prices seem reasonable and they go over every cost paired with the procedure to make sure you understand and can afford the costs. If you have a kitten they have a vaccination kitten package which I found to be the cheapest best deal then all the other clinics in the rancho San Diego El Cajon Area. I highly recommend this place! When someone calls you for a quote, the expectation is to receive the entire cost of procedure. I was quoted $300-380 for a large dog spay, depending on the weight of my dog (my dog is 72lbs, thus falling under the $300 procedure). When I arrived, I was asked to sign an estimate cost of $509, which includes items that were standard for the procedure and for the more expensive weight. They gave me this quote after confirming her weight at 72lbs. The estimate was not optional items, they were necessary for the surgury.Wouldn't it make sense to quote the entire cost of the procedure when asked rather than throwing it in at the last minute, if you are an honest establishment? I know we didn't discuss this over the phone but apparently we can add charges later. So, here is an estimate of cost for my time and energy.- Large family trip to clinic. $50- 20 miles. $5 for gas.- Daily trip to town. $100- Lost wages (missed overtime opportunity). $400-That's  $555, let me know how you plan on paying this fee. Hands down the best vet in all of San Diego.  I drive 45 min to get here and I will never go to another vet!  I know they handle my dog with as much care - in front of me as well as when my pet is in the back, out of my sight.  I used to work for several vets and I can tell you they don't handle the animal as nice when the owner is not looking! Yesterday, while walking my huge dog (Leonberger), she started shaking her head violently.  We raced to her regular vet, but they were overwhelmed.  They called Steele Canyon, told them of my situation, and Steele Canyon agreed to see my dog immediately.  Upon arrival, they examined my dog quickly and suspected a foxtail in her ear.  My dog is not receptive to anyone sticking anything in her ear, so rather than traumatize the dog, Dr. Wilson suggested sedating her and then seek out the problem.  We agreed on that, the dog was sedated and a foxtail was removed from her ear.  She is fine today, thanks to the quick response and professional care she received at Steele Canyon.  The staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful.  I highly recommend this veterinary clinic and I will return in the future. Sometimes you may have to wait as it is a busy office, but it's worth it. My dog loves Dr. Wilson and if we weren't moving in a few weeks we would be lifelong clients. I thought SCV was the best...caring, friendly, etc. We had a kitten who hurt her leg , a temporary cast was put on which she took off and made the leg worse after xrays were reviewed. We were told the leg could not be saved....amputation. The cost was way out of our means. Then we were told that if we relinquished the dog a surgeon would be called to fix the leg (?) My husband was very attached to Paddy and at this time going through treatment for heart failure...so this really upset him. So it was either put down the cat or we relinquish her and she would have surgery and we could not see her again. Life or death...no choice, right? Soooo very sad to say goodbye to her. Time passed and I was in the process of adopting a homeless puppy ....the organization asked for my vet's number for a reference to our character ....I was refused after they called SCV. Lindsay never consulted me. The organization would not tell me anything. So blackballed from adopting because i had to relinquish Paddy to save her life.....shameful.Read Less

This is for their pet grooming service only. I took my toy poodle there and Megan did a wonderful job on him. This is the first time in 8 years that I can say I got a complete groom on him. Poodles not only need their hair cut, nails trimmed, and anal glands expressed, they need their ears plucked. That's correct plucked. Megan not only did all these things, but gave him a nice cut. He was also not burned on his skin from hot grooming shears, which has been a problem with other groomers. My dog came back less stressed than with other groomers. I am not making this stuff up, Megan seemed to enjoy her work and my dog. The price was reasonable and the other staff efficient and nice. I will be a return customer. I was going to do 3 stars but 2 stars says "I've experienced better" and 3 says "A ok", so 2 fits best. This place is okay; I wouldn't say DON'T bring your pet here. But I have been spoiled by better before we moved here. This place is SLOOOOOOOOW. If you are the kind of person who hates it when you make an appointment for 3:00 and don't get to see the doctor until 4:00, this place will drive you mad. I've been here many many times, so this isn't just a rare occurrence. It is EVERY TIME. Also, out pet needs a certain drug for the rest of his life, which isn't that much longer, and the drug itself isn't expensive, but they won't give it to us without having regular blood tests, so that is where the cost is. Bottom line: they aren't concerned about the customers convenience; just their own. They line us up in the waiting area so we are ready when they are and give no thought to how long we have to wait. If year after year goes by and every time they schedule an appointment, it turns out much later, CHANGE THE SYSTEM! Tell someone 3:30 instead of 3:00 for example. Occasionally, fine, they have a busy day, etc, but I'm talking 100% of the time I've been there, which is easily over a dozen.That all being said, they won't endanger your pet; they are fine in that way. I brought my dog here for a check up on a rash he got over the weekend. I'm not sure how long it will take to see the vet. , but so far we seem to have waited for about 45 minutes. Update: after taking my dog for a rash on the belly area I can say he has fully recovered and he is no longer scratching the affected area. I'm pleased with my visit here. BEYOND AMAZING!  Dr. Wilson is a wonderful caring and knowledgeable dr!  And the staff is kind and thoughtful.I've visited many vet offices over the years and haven't ever had someone care so much for my sweet dogs and my family.  Her kindness, listening, and care goes over and beyond!  On each visit she takes a very through exam of my dog and asks lots of questions so that she has the whole picture.  I know my dog is getting the best care since she gets to know them and me.   I am so grateful for her care and sometimes outside of the box thinking.  She thinks about your pup's case even after hours!  If I have any questions she always returns my phone call quickly (even on a day off!) and takes the time to explain.  And the staff is the same - always going over and beyond to make sure that not only does your pup get the best care but that you know what's going on and especially the cost.  I was refereed to this clinic from a friend who said that the price for dental cleanings was lower and they were right.  The cost compared to where I've been is alot lower and the quality of care is GREATER!  I don't agree with the "FLEE" comment below.  I've been to the office MANY times and that isn't true.  She must have posted to the wrong place.  Please don't hesitate to call and find out for yourself that taking your pup doesn't have to be overwhelming.  They are in the BEST care with DR. WOW I am appalled. I adopted a puppy on a Sunday and sadly she fell and broke her leg that Monday. We rushed her to this clinic (the clinic was recommended by the group we adopted her from and down the street from our house). First we were in the waiting room for an hour and half and then the patient room for another 20 minutes. They never offered any pain patch or medication or anything. After taking X-rays ($70 for each one) her left leg was badly broken on both bones. They sent the photos to an orthopedic specialist. He said that they would just have to split it and change the splint weekly, 180 a week, and surgery would not be necessary. Surgery was not brought up as a primary option after the orthopedic specialist looked at it. I was told there was a 75% chance this would work and if not then she would have to have surgery.  I called my boyfriends parents vet (20 minutes away) because I just had a bad feeling. Their prices for splinting would be cheaper but said if this vet said he leg is broken they most likely would have to do surgery. I said this vet said splinting would most likely work. They said we could come by right then to have her looked at because they definitely wanted to see the pup.  We sent the xray photos over for steele canyon and the other vet was shocked. My puppy had broken both of her leg bones so there would be nothing to splint her leg to. They said if the vet had splinted her leg and it didn't work they would have to re break the leg to perform surgery which they would not do. They could not believe that the original vet would even offer to splint it. This other vet was so helpful and felt so bad they even gave us a discount. It was clear that the vet we eventually took her to was not interested in making a profit and wanted the best for our dog.  PLEASE DO NOT EVER SEND YOUR PET TO STEELE CANYON- for their own safety! I live in San Diego and was referred here by a friend.  I've been going here for almost two years and make the 40 minute drive for everything from a simple vaccine that I could get at PetSmart to conditions that could be serious.  For example, my dog had an injured foot (not an emergency), and I left a message on a day they were closed to call me first thing on Monday so I could get an appointment in case they were very busy.  Over the weekend, they checked their voice mails, and the DOCTOR called me on a Sunday to check on her and to see if it was an emergency, and got the appointment scheduled.  I was so impressed!Unlike many vets, everyone in the office seems to truly care about your animal, and they actually listen to your opinions and concerns.  They are pet owners as well, so they understand how you are feeling.  They make follow up phone calls to check on your  pet, and if he or she isn't progressing and/or healing, they will make another appointment or even just make another follow up call if you're not ready to bring the animal back yet.  They don't push specific brands of foods which was one thing I never realized vets often did until I saw Dr. Wilson.  It isn't hard to get an appointment, and their prices are extremely reasonable too!Steele Canyon Veterinary Clinic is the best vet I've ever been to in my whole entire life.  I recommend them to everyone I know when their pet is sick or injured. My family (My wife and I, my sister, and my parents) have been taking our pets (5 dogs and two cats) here for a couple of years now. I live down near the airport, but still drive the 30 minutes every time I need to go to the vet to go to Steele Canyon. Dr. Wilson is by far the best vet any of us have ever had. Her and all the staff members are very down to earth and helpful. Also, they are extremely affordable. My dog has a heart problem, therefore we regularly have to go for check-ups and to get medication. Dr. Wilson always takes the time to make sure our dog is comfortable. She'll even do her check-up in the floor, instead of the table, to make sure the dog is as comfortable and he can be. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone in San Diego. It's well worth the drive, even if you don't live in the El Cajon / Jamul area. Read Less

Just like the previous reviewer, I too brought my pet(s) to this clinic after having a TRAUMATIC experience at Jamul Veterinary clinic. I will NEVER bring my pets to another clinic! The staff and Dr. Wilson have been GODSENDS to me and my puppies. I have two rescue puppies that required a lot of medical attention, and the entire staff has taken a lot of time to communicate with me in an honest, gentle nature.
