I have been bringing all my cats to Rosemont since 1996. I’m so happy with my current vet, Dr. O’Dwyer!!! And all the techs, front staff, and veterinary assistants are always pleasant, helpful and upbeat and friendly. Dr. O’Dwyer is kind, compassionate, a great doctor, and funny too - not to mention nice. I brought my 11/2 year old cat Ollie in, and he’s very overweight. She didn’t shame me or yell at me...I’ve put Ollie on a sensible diet and will be happy to go back to have him weighed at his next check-up. Dr. O’Dwyer is always very thorough when she examines my cats, and the vet assistant was great giving Ollie his booster shot and Rabies shot. Read Less

At first it seems they care about your pet, but after paying for check ups and x-rays for my dog they it seemed they could care less.I just got off the phone with them asking for a copy of the radiology report to show to the breeder of my dog which I had requested on Wednesday. Wednesday turned to Friday and now Friday turned to Monday. To top it of the lady on the phone was being extremely rude and lied that she had already called me with a full report. Shortly after she hung up on me. Wow. The doctor was great and very caring but the staff is down right disrespectful, what a shame. Read Less

I called this place unfortunately and spoke with Mary she was so rude and as soon is I asked her if I could make an appointment she asked me how much are you willing to spend. What???? I asked her why she's asking me such a thing? She said because we don't give discounts here and if you are looking for a handout we don't want a help you. Funny because I never asked her about a discount and I was willing to give them all my business because we have three sick dog's. So latter I asked our neighbor if they ever heard of this place and  she said oh yeah we have. They are all about taking your money. Very rude and unprofessional staff. Read Less

I am very torn in writing this review. Dr. Odwyer successfully treated our large breed Goldendoodle and his best pal when they both ate rat poison. For that treatment I am grateful, but RVH also missed the signs of congenital liver disease in the same dog. It's been two years since our beloved Goldendoodle died of congenital liver disease at 6 years of age. I feel strongly that readers should be educated about canine liver disease and know how it was handled by this hospital. What really broke our hearts is that, had his disease been discovered/diagnosed earlier, he might have lived a longer, healthier life. There were signs that he had something amiss from puppyhood - sleeping late, resisting walks, fatigue at odd times. While I loved Dr. O'Dwyer's bedside manner and clear love of her work, neither she nor her colleague at the time (who I notice no longer works at the hospital), seriously investigated our concerns about our dog's behavior except to take one blood test at a time when he his eating was off. That blood test showed nothing amiss. I again reiterated all his symptoms since puppyhood and still these symptoms were chalked up by Dr. O'Dwyer's colleague to "personality" or "breed." (My recollection is that Dr. ODwyer was out on maternity leave at the time.) I appreciate that perhaps RVH did not want to charge for unnecessary testing but perhaps there is a balance to be struck between that and seriously investigating a client's concerns.  We have since learned that our Goldendoodle actually had very common signs of liver disease and that the recommendation is to blood test every 3 months to detect - if suspected - because the condition can stabilize on and off - hiding from the blood test - and then worsen. We found this out from a vet who had been treating animals for 30 plus years. Sometimes there is just no substitute for a great deal of experience or a passion for scientific inquiry.Your vet needs to listen to you and hear you, no matter how nice and loving they are to your pet. Kindness will not substitute. If they continually reassure you about something that you feel for some reason is "odd", no matter what the blood test says, move on or.get a second opinion. RVH  did not do their due diligence in this area I am sad to say. Read Less

We found a tiny dog - a miniature golden-haired dachshund - walking on Orchard Lane in La Canada at 10pm. We know people who lost a small dog to coyotes on Palm Drive, not far from where the little one was walking. So, we took the dachshund home though our two big dogs weren't used to having pets around. Next day, we called Rosemont. Stephanie answered the phone and told us to bring the dog down right away. Jerry looked at the dog and made sure it was okay. Jerry, who works there, found that the dog had a chip. They contacted the owner who happened to be in Mexico. We got to Rosemont at 8:30am and a neighbor of the owner  was supposed to come to Rosemont in a few minutes. After about an hour of waiting at Rosemont, we took the dog home and locked our big dogs out in our backyard. We were anxious to get the dog back to its owner because we didn't know how our big dogs would respond to the little guy, and our big dogs didn't like being locked out of the house. We called Rosemont many times trying to get to the owner. Stephanie and Jerry were superb throughout! They repeatedly called the owner who didn't answer, possibly because he was in Mexico.  (They couldn't give us the owner's phone number because it's against the law.)Stephanie was terrific every time we called Rosemont! Always polite and always helpful even after our fourth or fifth call!Stephanie and Jerry clearly love dogs. Thanks for your help, both of you! And thanks to you, the tiny fellow has been returned home. Read Less

I'm not even sure where to begin with this place. I guess I'll first start by saying they're wonderful. I adopted my dog a little over a year ago and A friend told me to go to Dr. O'Dwyer. So I did, and continually received great care.  She has always been very thorough but also very open to talking through options. She also takes time to get to know you and your pet, and deals with every situation with the best bedside manner I've ever seen. We had a minor surgery to remove a lipoma few months back and Dr. Dwyer did a wonderful job. But my respect grew even more for her and the staff at Rosemont Veterinary most recently when my dog got into a bottle of Advil. He had to be hospitalized for a week and it was a very scary time where we thought we might lose him. Dr. O'Dwyer and the staff were so so accommodating through the whole time! Dr. O'Dwyer would make herself available for any time I called with questions. Which to me is rare for a doctor. Not to mention the entire staff bonded with our dog and would call frequently to check up on him and see how he was doing. One of the staff members there, Christine also works at TLC hospital where our dog was being hospitalized would spend her brakes sitting with Beau while he was in the hospital making sure he was loved and comfortable. Truly. Beyond expected and so so appreciated. We are now in a new maintenance level of care with our dog and Rosemont and it's staff has made the transition so much easier and less scary. I have had so many questions and not one time have I ever felt rushed or not important to Dr. O'Dwyer or any of the other stuff there. We've had to go there a lot lately and it is a great feeling when you walk in and you and your dog are warmly greeted like you're a member of the family. It's so wonderful when you know your dog is comfortable and happy with the staff and doctors there. He literally freaks out with joy which is not common for dogs who have to go to the vet. I owe a huge huge thank you to everyone at this place. Thank you Rosemont Veterinary! Read Less

We took our dog Sammy to this clinic just to get her vaccinations, since our last place closed. Sammy is a 5 year old black lab who is very active and healthy. The staff were pleasant when we got the shots and everything seemed fine about the place. The vet, Dr. Chung, also reported that Sammy had no health concerns. So we took Sammy home that Tuesday afternoon and she was fine for the first day and a half afterwards. Then, on Thursday evening when we got home from work, we saw that Sammy didn't come to greet us like usual. We also found that she wouldn't eat and was more tired than she's ever been. By that night, Sammy was unable to walk and later was unable to even move off of her bed. She wet herself which has never happened, and she screamed when we touched her legs. So we took her to the vet Friday and told Dr. Chung that Sammy was having a reaction to the shots (she could not move her legs on the right side where the shot was done). He claimed there was no relationship between the shot and her new behavior, and he told us that she had all of a sudden developed a neurological disorder. He even referred us to a dog neurologist!! And they of course charge over $200 simply for assessment! Then, that night, we did some muscle stretching with Sammy and she was able to walk again! She even started to eat again and greet us at the door. It is CRYSTAL clear that Sammy had a reaction to the vaccinations (which are actually only to be done every 3 years). In my honest opinion, Dr. Chung is downright incompetent and he lies just to push expensive referrals and keep the vet visits coming. We will never return to this clinic and I suggest you never go either! Read Less

We finally tried acupuncture and were lucky enough to find Dr O'Dwyer. It is amazing to watch the difference in him.Our other rescue dog, a 9-year old lab/retriever, jumped down a flight of steps and tore her ACL, per several other vets and X-Rays. When my college age- daughter brought home a little chihuahua mix, I knew we were in big trouble. My husband hates little dogs and my daughter is a dingbat who can barely take care of herself. The dog is cute as hell though. At around 8 months old, she brought him home for a visit and he started lifting his leg and whizzing on everything in my house. I knew that if I wanted this dog to live to adulthood, I would have to have him fixed. I researched vets around my daughter's school and had her take him to Rosemont. Dr. O'Dwyer neutered him. She loves dogs so much, I was afraid (kinda hoping) she wouldn't give him back. But she did.  They charged the going rate, and kept him overnight. We will be taking him back to get a chip and to have his teeth cleaned. My husband is now the new owner of the dog and he will settle for nothing but the best for his little buddy, even if it means driving 4 hours. Read Less

When I take my beloved furry family member to a new Veterinary Clinic I need to get a warm and fuzzy feeling from everyone who works there.I called to find out how much they would charge and it was $49 for the visit alone.  That's already less that two VPA Animal Clinics because they charge $59.  Rosemont is closer to my home, so I'm also saving money on gas and time.  Tucker was limping after getting home from the groomers for a couple days and I took him to see Dr. Chung.   Dr. Chung examined Tucker and he recommended two things.  I could either have an x-ray done or he could take some anti-inflammatory drugs to see if that helped.   The drugs seemed to help after he took them for a couple days so the limping went away.I also asked about Tucker's weight because he was about 36 pounds when I adopted him in October and he was now 55 pounds.  Dr. Chung told me he could probably lose 5 pounds.  He walks at least 3 miles a day, so we had to cut back on the amount of kibble and grilled chicken.  I think my husband is part of the problem because he'll stop at McDonald's for an ice cream cone and give half to Tucker.  He also gives him basmati rice, little pieces of waffles and other things.  Tucker would eat all day long if we let him.I'll probably take Tucker back for check-ups and immunizations because they seem to have good prices and it's close to home.Tips:-  If you are bringing your pet in for the first visit, don't forget to bring copies of their immunization records.-  Bring some treats if your pet gets distracted or aggravated by other animals.  Tucker doesn't like big male Australian Shepherds or Labradors, so little pieces of hot dogs help.-  Take your dog for a little walk out front first, so they don't decide to mark their territory inside.  Tucker has done this at another Vet's office and Petco too. Though they met our dogs later in their lives, Dr. O'Dwyer was undaunted by Apollo's 4 inch medical file she inherited from Dr. Mitchell. Because of both of our dogs special needs, she was what I'd call our primary care vet and dealt with both major and minor issues. Dr. Sallen and Dr. Mitchell are fabulous. We have been taking our cats and dogs to them for the last 12 years and we could not be happier with their honesty and the quality of the service that they have given our animals. They are caring, ethical and attentive. When I read some of the negative reviews I wonder who is encouraging these people to post these reviews. One example ""Deals with Puppy Mills"" I have deal with Dr Sallen and Dr. Mitchell for 12 years and I know they are highly opposed to puppy mills as they have to deal with the fall out from these mills on a regular basis. We would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

While Dr. Mitchell is well qualified, I find their business practices to be horrible. It starts when you are brought into the exam room by a young man bent on getting you to sign up for""Our senior health program"" or whatever the latest money making program they have come up with. While I understand the want to create maximum profits, I take umbrage with the fact that this is being pushed on me while my dog is in need of care for a moderately serious injury. He will also resort to making you feel guilty for NOT subscribing to his sales pitch. Be very careful to ask for ALL costs when getting a estimate of costs for any procedure. They are notorious for quoting a price that only covers treatment to a specific point of action. Any further costs, can and will, result in additional substantial charges to the estimate. They won't tell you this at first so BE SURE TO ASK. I had been a customer for well over a decade and just could not tolerate these and other seemingly slimy tactics. Most of my issues seem to have taken place after they merged with Hillcrest Veterinary Clinic. I, as many others have become, am very happy with the services and prices from another local vet. If you decide to go to Rosemont Pet Hospital, bring a wheelbarrow full of cash. Read Less

I've been bringing my cats here since about 1998. We've had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Mitchell, and have found the front desk people and the techs very helpful! Linda can have a gruff exterior, but it is clear she really cares, and Ben may be the best tech on the planet. We do feel Dr. Mitchell is better with cats than Dr. Sallen, but she's a cat person herself and understands them well. She is kind and her diagnostic skills are well above average. We have worked with her through everything from routine care to IBD to chronic kidney failure to hyperthyroidism to rodent ulcers to... you name it. I don't know where these complaints about not walking the boarded animals come from, but I have seen the staff out walking dogs, so I'm pretty sure it's not true! Read Less

We brought our new dog here after only a few visits with this vet with our 2 older dogs who had recently passed. Our new dog was scheduled to get spayed and some vaccines. When we picked her up they said that during the spaying, they decided to pull one of her teeth (although it was an extra tooth and was purely cosmetic) without consulting us first. During her recovery at Rosemont from the spaying, the tooth got infected and so they never gave her the vaccines although they never told us this until after our dog got Bordatella (sp.?) and very ill and this was one of the things she was supposed to be vaccinated for so we put 2 and 2 together. We now go to La Canada Pet Clinic and we are much happier there. Read Less

I can't imagine anyone writing anything other than the utmost best about Rosemont Animal Hospital. Our beloved kitty was treated very well by Dr. Mitchell when we brought her in to the clinic for an examination. She was professional, kind and compassionate and directed us to an excellent specialist group to finalize the diagnosis. Unfortunately, our kitty was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma and we, at that time, knew she only had a couple of weeks to live. When it became time to have our beloved kitty put to sleep so that she would not be suffering, we brought her to Rosemont and were assisted by Dr. Sallen. He was kind, gentle, compassionate and really seemed to understand what our family was going through. He treated our kitty very gently and with much respect during the euthanasia process. I highly recommend this center for all of your pets' needs during and after their life. Read Less

I read some of the other reviews here and wonder if they were written by competitors. I have been coming to Rosemont Pet Hospital since the early 1980?s. I have sent many people in my neighborhood to this place, and I have never had a problem or heard of a problem. I see both Dr. Sallen and Dr. Mitchell and they are both totally on top of what they are doing and they both care about their patients. I actually like these Dr?s better than I like my own private doctor. The front office is more together than any other I have dealt with. We travel with our 4 dogs a fair amount, so I do end up in other vet offices. From my experience, I believe this is a top-notch office, with Dr?s that are up on the latest medical info. The place is well equipped for tooth cleaning, normal surgeries, vaccinations etc. You can tell that the staff actually cares about you and your pet. The place is not run by a bunch of high school kids, but a team of people who pay attention to the details. It looks like some of the other reviews here are from the people who don't believe in vaccinations. I have been having my dogs vaccinated here for more than 20 years. They have never ?pushed? vaccinations on me, nor do I think they have even given me too many. I know we have had to return to have some vaccinations days later, to make sure there were no allergic reactions and if there were, we would then know which vaccination caused the reaction. There is always a chance for a reaction with any vaccination, but we have never had any. We also had our children vaccinated knowing that there can be the same risk of allergic reactions. This is a good vet with a together team and they know what they are doing. I have been coming here long enough to know. They have has ample time to screw up and so far with maybe 100 visits in 20 years, I have no issues.Read Less

They are kind, compassionate and understanding. They all have animals themselves are understand the bod. I also kennel my dog there every year when we go on vacation. I wouldn't trust to leave her anywhere else. Linda is amazing and is one of my dog's favorite people. She goes nuts just when she hears Linda's voice! Although I have no firsthand experience with this vet clinic, I cannot believe some of the reviews I see here. Someone actually ignorant enough to say that this vet clinic gave ""a bunch of vaccinations"" - and then Shocker - the dog got sick and reacted and the clinic didn't charge them for treatment. Of course they didn't - its called liability. Any vet clinic who would give multiple vaccines at one time is not only negligent, but completely acting in conflict with the American Hospital Association that it claims it is a member of on its website. This is a total violation of the recommended vaccine protocol from most of science at this point and it is unconscionable today that vets continue to ignore the danger of vaccines and its chemical ingredients - the damage is permanent and you can't undo it. I work in rescue and checked these reviews since the rescue I just picked up yesterday had been treated at this clinic - this rescue dog is a medical mess and I was trying to find out who the out of touch vet is that has been failing to treat this dog and his orthopedic issues correctly - here they are. I understand why he was so over-vaccinated as well. It saddens me that there are those who are so uneducated about the dangers of vaccines that they give a vet who over vaccinates and makes their dog sick a 5 star review. Ridiculous! Read Less

After a horrendous experience at a Tujunga vet clinic, my husband and I finally sought out a new animal hospital in La Crescenta. With so many to choose from, we went with a recommendation for Rosemont...and we're so glad we did. Our first visit was for a bunch of vaccinations that were due and a general check-up for our beagle. Dr. Mitchell was very sweet and natural with our dog, easy to talk to. By the next day, our beagle was having quite a reaction to all of the vaccines at once, so they had us come back in where they checked him over thoroughly and then gave him some IV fluids to make him feel a bit better and help with recovery (on the spot, not requiring a costly overnight visit like some local clinics). Then they sent us home, our fears calmed, and without any charge for the visit or fluids... even though the reaction wasn't their fault. The best part is that Dr. Mitchell is an understanding pet owner herself. She isn't patronizing and doesn't overreact. She understands when you're concerned, even if the situation only requires some fluids, a small tab of Benadryl and some rest. But she also doesn't recommend unnecessary costly treatments just because you're nervous. Despite some of the other reviews, in my experience (and my friends' experiences), they don't seem to make treatment or charge decisions based what they think you can afford...which, unfortunately, has been my experience at another local clinic. If you're unhappy with the care your pet is getting at another Crescenta Valley clinic, give Rosemont a try! Read Less

I took my puppy to Rosemont because they were highly recommended by the place that I bought my puppy. Well they were nice the first couple of times, because I was not paying the bill, the place the puppy came from was covering the cost because my puppy had kennel cough. After that we went in for some vaccines which they even charged me for an office visit because I wanted to see the doctor for my dogs itchy skin on a Thursday. They gave me shampoo and some oral medicine but after a few days my dog was throwing up, so I called and we took him back on Monday. When I got there the original doctor wasn't their which was fine. So the other doctor gave him an iv because he was dehydrated, a shot to stop the throwing up and three pills to take home, but that wasn't the bad part. They gave me a bill for another office visit and for all the extra medicines. Why should I have to pay for another office visit and the medicines when they should have made my dog feel better the first time which I understand sometime some medicines do not work. But why should I have to pay them again for an office visit and medicine to make my puppy better from the things they did to him which made him feel worse. So I spoke with the office manager who was very rude to me and she didn't even want to discuss it. She said this time we wont charge you but next time anything we do has a fee, that's when I told myself their wont be a next time. Also they do not have an on call doctor so if you call their office after 6:00 PM no one can help you the answering service takes down your information and you get a call back around 8:30AM the next morning when the office re-opens. I believe you should find a vet. who wants to help make your family member better.

Read Less

Dr. and were so sweet and made the whole experience really fun and stress-free for Heidi. There were lots of treats, head scratches, and even a cheer-whiz snack while she was given a shot - she didn't even notice the needle.

Read Less

Dr O'Dwyer has given me at least an extra year with Oscar! A year ago we were considering how long we could watch Oscar suffer with his hip pain - 12-year-old rescue dog with hip Dysplasia.

When it became time to have our beloved kitty put to sleep so that she would not be suffering, we brought her to Rosemont and were assisted by Dr. Sallen.

I was shocked when I read the reviews below. I have personally been going to Rosemont Animal Hospital for the care of my dogs and cats since 2000. They are amazing. They helped us make a difficult decision about a kitty that we had to put down. They patched up my dog when she tore out a claw. Fixed up another cat when she was attacked by a opossum. There has been occaision when I did not have all the money to pay for services upfront. They were nice enough to work with me and help us with a payment arrangement. I honestly cannot say enough about this pet hospital and the care the have provided to my animals. Read Less

Read Less
