My family pets have always seen Dr. Sumpter, who has been an amazing Vet. However, I unfortunately took Teddy into see Dr. Bissette. Teddy had labored breathing but overall seemed very happy and healthy. After I left Teddy with Dr. Bisette for observation for a few hours he called me to let me know I could pick up Teddy and he was doing well. To my despair, I woke up in the middle of the night to the love of my life dead. The state I found Teddy in was disheartening to say they least. I will forever regret the day I let a child veterinarian diagnose Teddy. If you'd like a vet who actually cares, go to the Olympiad Animal Hospitol off of Alicia, they cared enough to even follow up on my puppies ear infection. It is not possible for me to recommend Dr. Coin and this hospital more strongly. They have been our vet for a while, but recently my dog Starbuck got very sick all of the sudden. They immediately made an appointment for her. Dr. Coin immediately realized he needed an X-Ray and found a foreign growth. He was professional and offered an immediate plan. When that plan got met with changing circumstances, he immediately took my dog in for surgery and saved her life. So happy I found this place! The only vet service open on Sunday in the area. I had to take my chihuahua in and was seen right away while other places didn’t have an opening until the following week. We have been so happy with their care, compassion and service. We have elderly dogs- a 16 y/o husky & 11 y/o Great Dane. They've always provided amazing care. Today we found a lump, Dr Coins discussed our options. He then immediately fit us in & removed a cancerous tumor from my big-girl's head. She's doing well, and he took amazing care of her. I have been coming here for a while, and the service has always been great. I have two Golden Retriever/Pug mix dogs. Dr. Coins has seen my pups the last two times I have been here. He is an exceptional Veterinarian. He was extremely thorough, and showed my pups such compassion and love. He answered all my questions, and I could tell that he has a genuine love for animals. I take both our dogs here for their exams and boarding. We have only had one stay here for two nights and both dogs were fine. They have also had vaccinations here. Our younger pup seems to love it here not sure if he knows its the vet or not but he sniffs everything. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I have been taking my dogs to Ladera Ranch vet for almost 14 years. They are always polite, prompt and caring. The vets are great at communicating what is going on with my dogs and show that they truly enjoy what they do. I like how Ladera Ranch animal hospital has dental month, bath month and other great discounts to help me take care of my 10 small dogs with a slight savings from time to time. After bringing our dog Brownie here for YEARS,  I brought her in last Wednesday at 5:30 PM to be euthanized. She had been getting progressively more ill for weeks; probably months looking back. She was 13 years, 7 months old. At 5:45 PM my son called me to say he was leaving work in Costa Mesa. He really wanted to be with his dog at this juncture. Dr Sumpter informed me that "we lock the doors at 6." She then complimented me about my care for her over the years, agreed that I was making the right decision for Brownie and said "you could reschedule for tomorrow morning." Really?!? I returned to my car, lifted her (42 pounds, at 1 time 60 pounds) back into the back of my car with no assistance from any staff and drove to Animal Urgent Care Center in Mission Viejo. BTW, the staff at Animal Urgent Care was AMAZING! I received a condolence card from Animal Urgent Care in today's mail; nothing from Ladera Ranch. Read Less

Dr. Eckstein and her staff are truly wonderful! Our beloved feline of 16 years was taken care of at Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital for the past 3 years after switching vets. We wish we would have found Dr. Eckstein sooner. Our baby was faced with many challenging health issues, which Dr. Eckstein was able to address without any problem. Due to age, our baby had thyroid issues, as well as associated kidney disease. Thanks to Dr. Eckstein's amazing recommendations and treatment, our precious baby was able to spend his last years on earth in comfort and most importantly...loved by all! We have taken our new puppy here three times now and he, who is afraid of all strangers, doorways, paper, and the television, doesn't mind coming at all.  I really get the feeling that the vets and the vet tech's really love animals and that they really love their work.  My daughter loves to read all the safety bulletins and interesting pet information that they paste all over their walls.  We bought one of their mango candles that is supposed to help eliminate the smell of naughty puppies who do not understand potty training and it works life a charm. To put it lightly my dog is terrified of the vet and the staff here are patient and understanding. Recently, Sully was hurt and I had to go to urgent care twice because they didn't repair the wound correctly the first time. Then I went to LRAH to get stitches and they did it the right way. They gave me suggestions on what to use other than the Cone of Shame and in result my dog is healing very quickly. Faster than I expected! I trust the doctors and staff 100%! Read Less

We've been taking our kitties to Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital for years and this review is long overdue. The two doctors and staff are absolutely amazing. If there was ever a problem with one of our girls, it was never an issue to bring them in. 10 months ago our cat of 15 years Hunny was very lethargic so I took her right in. After some testing we discovered the worst: cancer. The compassion and care from the doctors and everyone there was very heart felt. There was nothing they could do for her and she was in pain. We made the choice to send her to the rainbow bridge. My husband and I were able to be with her till the end and nobody rushed us afterwards. They had no idea how much that meant to us. A few months later our hearts were broken again when our other kitty Oreo because paralyzed in her lower back. They did everything they could to make her comfortable but there was nothing else they could be done. A tumor seemed to have developed on her spine causing the paralysis. They recommend a specialist but he agreed that nothing could be done. We actually had her for several months after all this but she was no longer having a good quality of life. We had to make the decision again and we sent her off to the rainbow bridge. Again their care and compassion was given and we very much appreciated it. We are now ready to give a homeless kitty a forever home and we'll be taking her to this hospital. We wouldn't trust anyone else with our furry kids. Thank you LRAH. About 3 years ago, Dr. Angele Sumptner (her first name should tell you something), saved our dog from kidney disease caused by those chicken jerky treats. She is the best vet I've ever seen. Our pup is living the fullest, happiest life and it's because of her and her amazing team.Read Less

Dr Sumptner is the best! She took great care of my dog when she was sick and even told me about a new anti-itch pill called Apoquel (never even mentioned to me before.) works great by the way.Staff was super friendly and seemed to genuinely care. The vet (Dr Sumptner) was great! She took the time to explain everything to me and not over test like some vets do. Very Knowledgeable and kind, and spent quite awhile discussing all issues that could be causing my dog's skin infection. We were fortunate to not have to visit the vet often with our Siamese cat. However, when the day came after a rapid decline in health,that we had to end our cat's suffering, we were impressed with the care we received at Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital. Not only was Max (cat) treated with compassion, but the doctor and staff treated the whole family with compassion. This is one of the best kept secrets in Ladera Ranch.  A true 5 star vet in the middle of dog lover country.  I've been taking my pups here for years and absolutely love the care and attention my furry children get.  Dr. Sumpter is a true animal lover and even our feisty English Bulldog Brutus loves her and her staff (that's saying a lot).Here's my breakdown:GOOD 1:  They love animals.  The staff is all amazing and I haven't had even 1 bad experience in all my years of coming here for my vet needs.  My pups aren't afraid to come.  I had a couple of bad experience at other places before coming here so I appreciate how wonderful they all are.GOOD 2:  They're extremely helpful with the various pet insurance forms when needed.  I personally have major medical plans for both my pups though VPI and whenever we have covered treatments they fill out and submit the paperwork for me.  On occasion I've had covered items denied because of misunderstandings on the medical charts and the doctors were more than happy to jump on a call with VPI to further explain things.  It's time out of their busy day to help me and I really appreciate that.  On just one occasion alone it was the difference between $300 being covered or out of pocket.GOOD 3:  They have great hours.  They're open early enough for me to get in before work and late enough for my wife to go after work if needed.BAD 1:  This is where I usually put things that need improvement , but in this case I don't have anything to suggest.  They're doing a great job at everything they do.Overall....I love the staff, my doggies love the staff, they provide great services at reasonable prices and it located right by my house.  I tell everyone I know about this place and I hope there never comes a day that I have to take my dogs anywhere else. This animal facility is clean and the doctors and staff are very caring with all animals! I highly recommend them! They treat my dog and my cat as if they were their own. Dr. Mauna stayed after hours to do a procedure that was potentially life-threatening for my cat! We received the best care and didn't have to pay for an ER visit. My cat had a urethral blockage and his bladder was the size of a naval orange!! I can't say enough about the veterinarians here. They LOVE our pets! (I think they want to keep my dog!) This place is awesome. We rushed in with our 1 year old mini dachshund because he had some swollen part on his neck. No appointment or anything but we were worried so we just went in... And they were super friendly and accommodating. They saw him almost immediately, and were very sweet and gentle with him. Verdict was he just got stung by something and to give him half a Benadryl. Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital is great! We adopted two mutts from the Mission Viejo rescue shelter and one of them has had hip surgery, is allergic to bees, and has a luxating patella, so we have spent (and I'm sure will continue to spend) lots of time at the vet and lots of money doing so!  After moving to Ladera Ranch, Dr. Mauna was highly recommended by all of our neighbors with pets. We brought our guys in for their first visit, and Dr. Mauna was really nice, answered all of our questions, and our dogs didn't seem to mind him (they are usually terrified of the vet). We used to go to Irvine Pet Complex where they charged ridiculous prices for everything and would always recommend the most expensive route of care. Dr. Mauna was reasonable and his staff was super friendly. We didn't even have to wait long to see him once checking in and filling out new patient paperwork! We recently adopted a puppy from a shelter so the next step was finding a vet. I visited 4 local places before settling on Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital.The front desk staff are cheerful and friendly -- to both people and pets.  They are also efficient even when "hanging out" and chatting with customers and each other.  This creates a nice welcoming atmosphere.  The reception area is also bright, clean, and spacious -- it's very easy to separate if visiting animals get nervous or unhappy.  There are products on shelves but no upselling.  And they do encourage pet insurance and have brochures available -- considering how expensive it can get just with regular health care & vax, insurance is good.Snuggle Pi's first visit was after coming home from the shelter.  He had an upset tummy and we wanted to get it sorted quickly.  The technicians and vet were all very gentle with him, soothing and calm, which helped him relax quickly.  They explained everything (and did so simply) and got him sorted out nicely.Since then my experience has continued to be wonderful.  They send out reminder texts and emails for appointments, are easy to schedule with, and (a small yet nice touch) always refer to him by name.Our last visit was routine vax and heartworm check so he went out the back solo.  The tech that took him took a moment to let him acclimate before walking him out.  She verbally encouraged him rather than tugging him along.  When they returned she took the time to reassure me that when he'd become nervous she'd offered him snuggles and he'd settled down immediately.I'm not sure if this is standard, though I think it may be, but we always get the same vet.  When booking an appointment I've been told what days Dr. Sumpter's there and Snuggle Pi's appointment is then booked with her.  I really like this.  Not only does Snuggle Pi see the same person regularly and thus develop a relationship with her, but seeing the same vet each time means she has a developed knowledge of him. Finally, he is eager to go in when we go there.  This indicates that he has positive associations with the place and that tells me that they treat him well. Read Less

Dr. Sumptar is top-notch in her field, she is thoroughly knowledgable and has given the best care for all of my pets (if you have French Bulldogs, I highly recommend her). I have been going to Dr. Sumptar for 8-9 years and I trust her with all of my pets. In fact, the entire team at Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital are awesome, knowledgeable, reliable, friendly and everything you would want during a vet hospital visit. Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital is the best vet I have ever been to. Both Docs. truly care about all of the animals and love what they do. They have always provided my animals with the best care. When we had to put our dog Sandy down they were very respectful and made a donation in her name. And when we had to put our cat down, they sent us a beautiful card signed by every staff member offering us their condolences. We have taken our two Jack Russell Terriers to Ladera Ranch Animal Hospital since it opened. They treat our dogs like family - and we don't feel like they are constantly trying to push unnecessary treatments or tests on us. We are given a thorough explanation of each dog's health and when available, cost-savings ideas for treatment. We could not be happier with them. Dr. Mauna is kind and gentle with our dogs and both he and Dr. Sumpter also treated our yellow lab when he ate rat poison at 3 months old.
