Rancho Viejo staff and doctors (Dr. E and Dr. A) are professional, thoughtful, deliberate and comforting. Exams and explanations are thorough, and explanations are always available if we don't fully understand something. The doctors know when to refer our cats to specialists, and always follow-up with us. Just recently, after an annual exam for one of our cats, Dr. E followed-up with a phone call to us at 7PM. She carefully described the findings of the lab tests and waited for us to ask questions, making sure we were satisfied before concluding the call. We highly recommend Rancho Viejo Animal Hospital! We have been taking our dogs (one Siberian Husky and one Shih Tzu) since we moved to California 4 years ago. They treat us and our pets great and they provide follow up (calls and e-mail) to make sure our pets are doing well after their visits. This place is the best. I have been to so many vets before and I have many family and friends with whom I have met their vets and none of them even come close to this place. Dr. Eckstein is the most experienced and dedicated vet I have ever dealt with. She is very loving towards the animals and sensitive to each individual's needs. She is very thorough with diagnosis and on multiple occasions been able to discover the problem when other vets missed or misdiagnosed. One of the best things about this place is also that Dr. Eckstein and her staff only refer to the best and are quick to get a second opinion if there is even a little uncertainty. My cat was very prone to illness, I believe due to her breed (mixed Manx). The doctor found a tumor on the eyeball under the front eyelid. My past doctor missed it for years. All the specialists I have been referred to end up being 5 stars and 'the best in the area' when I end up Google searching them. I was actually referred to her by a friend with a Bengal kitty who had a rare condition which was found and treated by Dr. Eckstein and her referred specialist. The staff is incredibly caring and treat your 'babies' like the babies they are. They care for your pet as if they were their own and understand the connections we have with them. They are great at communicating and I was even called by them to check in on my cat when she was referred to see how her appointment went and how she is doing. I am very observant and critical with anyone touching my 'children'. I can tell when a vet is seeing 'just another cat' and my cat's reaction to someone who is just making them feel uneasy. So you can trust that I would not take the time to leave this review unless I was 100% sure you will not go wrong with this vet. They build connections and treat the animals as sensitively as if it was your child. They are all definitely crazy pet lovers like us and love their job and the bonds they have with each pet. I've been taking my Australian Cattle Dog, Logan, here for a while now. He has a couple of undetermined lumps at the moment. He's 9 years old now. When they took him back for testing, I just completely lost it. Caroline, from the front check-in area, told me the docs would take great care of him. I sat down, holding his leash, freaked out. 20 mins later she came out and apologized for not sitting with me, but explained that she was in the back holding his paw while he had the tests performed. Really? That's so amazing. I started to cry again, but happy tears. I couldn't ask for a better pet hospital. Now we wait for the results, but if it weren't for Cara and her kindness, I couldn't have remained as calm as I did. Thank you all for everything you do. Logan and I appreciate your entire team. CARING, ACCOMODATING & INFORMATIVE. I took my almost 15 year old male Min Pin, (named Reagan), to Rancho Viejo Animal Hospital for the first time on 08/05/15. He was having ongoing gastrointestinal problems and had not eaten in 4 days. Despite not having appointments available, they accommodated me, and Reagan was seen within an hour after I called. I did not have to wait long in the waiting room, only long enough to complete the single page pet registration paperwork. Right after registering Reagan, he was evaluated by the Vet Tech, Analia Valerio. It was the most comprehensive evaluation and question process I ever experienced at any veterinary office in 15 years! I did not wait long for the Veterinarian, Sheryl Eckstein, DVM. Again, Reagan's examination was extensive, and I had the opportunity to have an extensive conversation about Reagan's health and medical history. I felt listened to, and I felt Dr. Eckstein had a sincere concern for my dog's well being. When it came time to review recommended treatment, the Technician, (Analia Valerio), did not try to upsell me or push me in any way. I was given options and descriptions, then allowed to decide for myself the extent to which Reagan would be treated. Based on my experience, I will be bringing both my dogs here in the future. Great doctor, great staff and exceptional service. My pug had pre op blood work for an anesthetic dental procedure and it revealed a problem with his liver. Dr. Eckstein moved quickly, ordering tests, referring us to a specialist, then followed up with all doctors involved prior to surgery. My pug was diagnosed with a liver shunt and bladder stones.
