I've seen a lot of posts that people looking for a good veterinarian/animal hospital... we our selves were not happy with ours so today we tried out Canyon animal hospital... I cannot say how happy we were with the doctor the amount of time he spent with us the natural relationship he built with us and the whole staff was amazing. I feel that our dogs got the best care in years and I got questions answered that I had always been wondering about. I highly recommend this place.... One of my dogs is heavy and one of my dogs is very thin we learned how to balance the diet between both of them and what foods to what proteins to try for them. My heavier dog has always had heavy breathing with snorting and snoring. He basically sounds like a pig. The doctor right away could tell me that it was most likely a soft palate and what things to avoid or be cautious of. I worked there for almost five years, and Canyon Animal Hospital was my first taste of California living, being fresh out of Montana, Dr Hamil, Susan, and Kat made me feel like I belonged to their huge animal family practice and I could not recommend a better animal hospital in Laguna Beach than Canyon Animal Hospital. I'm surprised at the 2 negative comments about Dr. G. He has taken exceptional care of our cavalier, Miss Penny. He has surgically removed bladder stones, changed her diet do an allergy that he detected and he always takes time with the pet owner to explain everything. We had heard that Dr. G was THE doc to take your Wheaten to. Yes, they were absolutely right on. Barkley came in out of sorts and listless with Gastrointestinal and skin ailments. Dr. G saved my dog's life, he was sick, had parvo & numerous other things wrong...we didn't expect him to live! Dr. G and everyone at CAH are amazing. Wherever I am, whether Los Angeles or overseas, they are my go to veterinary team. I've taken numerous rescues to them and when there have been times that more attention and knowledgeability is needed than I could provide, there was someone to step up. When my dog fell ill and passed suddenly while I was out of the country, they were available after hours to take care of us to the end. Most importantly, all animals LOVE them! While I don't want to discredit anyone's reviews on here, I do want to say that Dr. "G" has been a delight! From the moment he met our dog and our family, he was wonderful! He does have the attitude of "Don't worry, I will take care of everything" and I like that! I have taken our dogs to Canyon Animal Hospital for 30+ years. Our animals have seen all the doctors who are professional, knowledgeable and caring In fact, our current dog loves going to see the veterinarian as he always gets a treat. Nine years ago I had to put two animals to sleep within a short time of each other due to their old age and extremely poor health. We just left Canyon after our first visit and are still smiling from ear to ear!! Everyone at the front desk was amazing; they welcomed us as soon as soon we walked in the door and we felt comfortable right away. Dr. Kelly Acala was extra through and incredibly knowledgable about Shelby's (our bloodhound) kidney disease. She is going to review her records and help us develop a long term plan for care based on current levels- a courtesy our Newport vet didn't go in to. We left an incredible animal practice when we moved to SoCal from Atlanta and have been through several but now we will stop looking Thank you Canyon Animal Hospital!! Read Less

Dr. G is the new owner of the practice as of late 2009 and since he has taken over, it has become a very different place to bring pets. While sitting in the lobby a man was waiting for his records telling me that Dr. G never returned calls after hours and his dog died. Separately, there is a $12 cost on top of any prescriptions filled - ridiculous. Dr. G is one of these doctors that says "leave everything to me" - next thing you know you have a bill for hundreds of dollars for tests that have been performed without your consent. This has happened on multiple occasions. Each time his diagnosis has been incorrect. Other vets who are more conservative in their approach seem to be able to find the problem/cause without it costing hundreds of hundreds of dollars in unnecessary tests. This used to be a great place to take pets for care. With this new ownership and lack of sensitivity, I highly recommend a new vet. Read Less
