He has extended the lives of our pups by catching problems early. If you love your pets, take them to La Paz Animal Clinic. As to cost, we've taken our pups to other vets over the years and ALL medical care is expensive. This office is just OK and I feel they do generally care about your pet, but beforehand, please make sure BEFORE this clinic runs ANY labs or tests on your pet ask them for a printed estimate for all lab work they intend to run.  The lab work for our cat was mostly unnecessary I feel, since she presented with a sore paw; perhaps doing an xray first would have been a better option instead.  Just make sure you know exactly what this vet will be doing before your drop off your pet. If you want the best care for your animal, you must try La Paz Animal Clinic.  I have been a client of Dr. Abdellla's for over 25 years and he is the best.  He truly cares and is the most thorough vet I have ever been to.  I moved back to the San Fernando Valley and can't go to him for everything because of the distance however, if it is something more serious I have and will continue to make the drive!  I had a Dalmatian when I first met DR A and he cared for Domino for his whole life and Domino lived until 13.  I now have 2 Golden Retriever's and have been to see DR A for my older Golden and after every visit I am so relived that DR A has examined him, he is peace of mind for me.  Never have I met a more dedicated Vet.  Words can not even begin to express how I feel about DR A and his entire staff. I have owned many pets and have seen many different veterinarians throughout my life.  Dr Michael Abdella stands out as one who is genuinely caring and knowledgeable in his field.  He recently helped our family through the end stage care of our cherished family dog who ultimately had to be euthanized due to metastatic cancer at age 11.It was a challenging case and despite numerous tests the cause of her illness was difficult to pinpoint.  I felt that Dr. A approached her condition and treatment in a very open and collaborative manner and when it became necessary to seek second and third opinions he went the extra mile to get the answers we wanted.Though it was a difficult couple of months to navigate through the final diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.  Dr A provided us with much needed support, compassion and care, as well as, answers to the many questions one faces with making the final decision to put a beloved pet down.  In the end when the conservative treatment measures we took failed to help her, he made the unbearable just a little more bearable by allowing me to be present in the room during her euthanasia.  He kept her comfortable for as long as possible and when it was time - he took extra measures to ensure a very calm and peaceful passing - his kindness during this time will always be remembered.  He allowed me to take comfort holding her in my arms as he handled her gently through the procedure - she took her final breaths and we were together in those last intimate moments.   My family appreciated the heart felt words he wrote on the sympathy card as well. Dr A recognized that she was truly special and that her paws will be hard to fill.  But then again, I think he genuinely really loves animals and dogs in particular and he treats all of his patients with the same level of care.It is a 45 minute drive to his office from my home but I will take all of my future pets to Dr A because he is a wonderful veterinarian and a credit to his profession.  His staff is wonderful and responsive.  The quality of service is excellent.  He takes his time to conduct a thorough examination and goes the extra mile when you need it what more can you ask for? This is my first Yelp review, but wanted to say something about this FANTASTIC vet and staff. I move to Orange County 5 years ago. My vets in Miami went to school with Dr A and referred me to him AND one of my pet sitters clients uses him. With two great recs, I had to come. The first time he saw my two dogs, Dr A spent over an hour and a half examining my older dog Hugo--approx 13/14 at the time-- and about 45 minutes with my other rescue Woodie. I was so impressed. About a year and half ago, I had to put Hugo down. :-( After living here for about a year, I started asking if I needed to consider putting him down. He was losing mobility, his sight and hearing. Dr A was so compassionate and said while my feelings/needs were important, his main concern was for Hugo and that he and/or Hugo would let me know when it's time. As time went on, I became a frequent visitor due Hugo's various age related problems. Dr A and the entire staff were fabulous. They always found time to see him and if necessary, he was the first dog they saw after I got in touch with them in the morning at 7am!! After each visit, the staff calls to follow up--love it--no other practice has ever done that before. If the situation was a bit more serious, they'd call every couple days to check in. After I put Hugo down, Dr A sent a personal, long note--he's handwriting is so tiny--about Hugo and my loss. They also added Hugo's pic to their collection and I get to see it every time I bring Woodie for an appt. After blood work, Dr A personally calls with the results to go over everything. He spends the time to explain the results (and any findings during the exam) to make sure you understand everything. The entire staff is very knowledgable, thoughtful, great with my dogs, Brenda really stands out!!! It goes without saying that Dr A is brilliant. He will let me know all his concerns, but at the same time, be conservative about the treatment. He doesn't push tests/x-rays immediately if the situation isn't too. Whenever I've asked if something was necessary, he has been frank about what should be done and what we should just watch. Some might consider their prices a bit high, but my pets are my babies. If I had kids, I'd get the best for them, so why would I skimp on my animals?! I've had a rough time financially and they've always been good about doing partial payments.I've lived all over the country and La Paz is the BEST animal hospital I have ever gone to!!! I could go on and on about them. I am moving to Dallas in a week, and while I'll miss my friends (and the weather), I am so concerned about finding a vet there as good ad Dr A. Once you've had the best, you don't want to accept anything less. I will miss Dr A, Brenda, Marissa Ana and of course, Carolina, one of Dr A and Brenda's kids who loves to be at the office.BTW, they groom Woodie and he always looks so handsome when I pick him up. I wouldn't take my pets any where else. Dr. Abdella, Brenda, Marissa, Shannon, the entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. They not only take such great care of the animals, but they take great care of the owners. Helping us make informed decisions and they get to know you. This is a great practice. Dr. Abdella and his staff are great! It's a small clinic, so you get very personal care. They are the reason it is important to find a good vet. They truly love animals. Great doctor and pleasant staff! On our way back to LA from San Diego, Dawg got into a bag of trail mix that had macadamia nuts in it. Knowing that these particular nuts are BAD for dogs, we called our vet in Pasadena. He said to take her to the closest vet. There were several around but since my favorite aunt's name was Paz... I know that's not a proper way to choose a vet, but we were in a big rush to get her to a vet, any vet, and Paz seemed like she was pointing us to this hospital. As it turned out, it was an EXCELLENT CHOICE! They treated her immediately! They even let Dawg's dad go back and be with her during the whole time she was there. While she was so cooperative (drug induced!), and after the nuts had been expelled, they cut her nails and cleaned her ears. A half hour later, she came out looking a lot better than when she went in. In fact, she looked better than she had in a long time! She was high on morphine! If we lived near here, Dr. Abdella would be our vet. If we need a vet between home and grandma's, this is where we'll return, Read Less
