Dr Wiekamp has been our vet for several years.  He has taken care of our two labradors as they aged and a cat as well. He also was kind and caring as they each passed on.  He is now helping us with our new labs as we have had them a year.  His treatments, surgeries and care over many years is above reproach. We are very grateful to him and literally he was part of our equation in taking on two new puppies again. With pets it is so helpful to have him come to us much less stress on the animals and us.  Dr. Wiekamp is the best! Read Less

We called him as our Dog was bleeding from his leg and his leg was swollen.  Our dog is very sensitive and huge as he is half mastiff.  I did not want to take him to a vet as I felt he would get too stressed and we thought maybe he was not going to make it as he has terrible hip dysplasia and we thought he was just maybe his joints were giving out.He came out and was there quickly.  Looked at our dog and said he had some sort of infection in his leg.  Gave him two injections- steroids and antibiotics.  Gave him three different medications...pain, antibiotics, and steroids.  Our dog is 130 pounds so that is alot of medications.  He also told us about some other treatments he could have for his hips. All said and done it was around $280.00.  This was less than my 14 pound dog who was dehydrated and needed an x-ray and some IV liquids which set us back $400.00 and that was not a house call.  We were very pleased.  Our dog is sleeping peacefully and hopefully will heal. I met Dr. Wiekamp years ago to put our dog to sleep, peacefully, at our home.  He was so compassionate and kind during this sad time.  But I can tell you, that our dog passed with us at her side, at her home, where she was comfortable.  I didn't want her last moments to be hauled into a car and brought into a strange place and have her last moments being scared.  Since then, Dr. Wiekamp has been our vet and has helped us with fosters, rescues and our own beloved animals.  He is the best vet!!!  I HIGHLY recommend him for all your veterinary needs.  I can't tell you how convenient it is to have him come to our home.  Our pets are not scared because he's right in our driveway!  Our pets are always friendly and not scared or anxious because they think they are just meeting someone new.  Plus, they are getting the very best care!!!  Call Dr. Wiekamp for all of your veterinary needs.  You will be BEYOND PLEASED!!! I called A Mobile Vet because my cat needed his ears cleaned and his claws clipped.  I explained to Dr. Wiekamp that I wanted to spare my 19 yr. old kitty the trauma of a trip to the vet because he is so frail; he is arthritic and has weakened muscles. All of the mobile vets I used in the Bay area came inside the house to treat my cats.  When Dr. Wiekamp came to the door, he scooped up the cat and rushed him downstairs to his van.  I was not allowed to go with them.  When they returned a half hour later, my cat could barely walk.  His two hind legs were bent and one was almost dragging.  He immediately threw up all over the house.  When I asked Dr. Wiekamp what happened in the van, and what did he do to my cat, he replied, "Well, it's an old cat, and I had to hold him down somehow so I could do the procedures."  It was obvious he had hurt my cat, who didn't eat for 2 days after that.    I have had pets for over 30 years, and this was the worst veterinarian incident I have ever experienced. RUN DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS DR.I called this vet to come and see my Maltese after she seemed to be drinking and urinating a bit more than normal.  I normally go to a holistic vet up in Garden Grove, but was getting tired of driving up there and thought I would find a vet closer.Dr. Wiekamp had no interest in reviewing any of her records and told me to keep a file at home. He took blood and urine and told me he would have the results the next day. So one day goes by, then a week.  I call him and leave a message because you never get a live person. NOTHING. I call again, and again, and again.  I kept telling him that perhaps his style was NOT to call back if all tests are fine, but I want him to tell me the results good or bad. After leaving a stern fifth message, he finally calls back two days later and says "you should never assume no news is good news" and then that is all he said. So I ask "So was her test good or bad?"  He then proceeds to go into some talk about her kidney levels being elevated and in cats this means their kidneys are operating at 30%. And I asked if this meant she was in kidney failure and he kept talking about cats and how since my dog also had elevated kidney levels, this would be early stages of kidney failure. So I asked what I could do and he told me to go to PetSmart and ask the vet there to give me a prescription for kidney support food. THAT WAS ALL.  He never offered to see her again or any other type of assistance.  When I asked if HE could give me a prescription for the food or what kind I should buy he was reluctant and I finally pushed and said I wanted the prescription from him and a copy of the blood test.  It took him another 24 hours to text me the prescription. And he had the lab send me the blood test.I proceeded to send this immediately to my regular Vet -- who had given my dog a full physical in May where her blood results were fine.  He called me back and said he wanted to do a retest and suspected that the levels were all off because the blood sample was mishandled.  I also read this online -- if the blood sample is not protected properly you can get elevated kidney readings. So I just got back from my vet who did a retest and all of the levels in my dog's blood test are perfectly fine. She has fully functioning kidneys and is not in kidney failure.  My vet said that the results on her test by this doctor showed really low glucose and calcium -- almost non existent -- and that is a sure sign that the blood sample was not handled properly.Upon closer inspection of the lab report, it actually says in two places that the levels on some of the readings are not normal and that the lab itself suggests a retest of the patient -- something which Dr. Wiekampf either didn't bother to read or couldn't be bothered to do. Do you really want this doctor taking care of your furry child?I am not sure how a doctor cannot call you back when you pay a few hundred dollars for an exam and a blood test-- particularly if the blood test shows something bad. I shouldn't have to chase after him for test results and he certainly should have followed up and offered better support if this news was indeed true.Sure, he might be more convenient to come to my house, but it's not worth it when you get a wrong diagnosis and this guy could really care less.  STAY AWAY.  He seems to not care at all about animals or their parents. Where do we begin... The BEST! He has been caring for our pets over the last 7+ years and we could not be happier or more confident with his abilities & knowledge. A wonderful clinician & skilled surgeon describes only a part of Dr. Wiekamp. Reasonably priced, no gouging or scary vet-speak here, he speaks in a "language" we understand, frankly yet compassionately. His greatest asset, HE LISTENS! He offers options (when available) & supports your decision once made. He kept Harley, our 13 yr old Golden comfortable until Harley was ready to go. A spay/neuter was the extent of our pets surgical needs until Jake injured his cranial cruciate ligament. Expecting a referral, we were not only pleased this was a surgery Dr. Wiekamp was familiar with & had performed on many occasions with great success but surgery took place just a few yards from our front door in his well equipped & modern mobile hospital; his surgical skills evident - Jake made a full recovery & is back to running like the wind! Scout, he was a tough one, taken too soon. Dr. Wiekamp's state of the art mobile hospital not only provided Scout with the necessary equipment, transfusions etc but a familiar & loving environment. We did not worry that his care would be in the hands of the "next available" technician as is commonplace in "traditional" facilities. Not only was a treatment plan discussed & ultimately executed, the gravity of the situation was explained with the real possibility that things could rapidly change for the worse; we KNEW if that scenario presented itself Scout's best chance was with his very knowledgeable & competent veterinarian, no lag time communicating from person to person, Dr. Wiekamp would be on it & taking action. The only thing better than being hospitalized in his mobile facility was that Scout spent the day with not only his vet but someone who had known him since he was rescued & loved him. Thanks to Dr. Wiekamp he came home that night & we were able to share one more amazing day with him. His loss was difficult for everyone, including Dr. Wiekamp. Our other dogs are a bit skittish, Dr Wiekamp is patient with them & takes their constant barking at him in stride & with a chuckle. Conversely, our new puppy Finley, thinks he's a rockstar & happily joined him in his mobile office for his first exam & vx - it concluded with a pat on the head & a familiar smile. Dr. Wiekamp's smile leaves no question as to why he is a veterinarian! We can't imagine the care of our pets on anyone else's hands. Read Less

We love Dr. Wiekamp!!!  We were given Dr. Wiekamp's name to come and help us peacefully say goodbye to our beloved Boston Terrier, Sadie, who has had cancer for almost 10 years.  I asked Dr. Wiekamp to please check her and give his opinion before sending her to heaven.  He came to our home, was not chatty but not overly quiet either.  He listened to us, asked us questions and examined our sweetest angel, Sadie.  Upon his examination, he said her lymphoma was full blown but that we do have a choice.  He did not make any guarantees or promises but we could try a few prescriptions to help her.  We of course opted to save her and agreed to the medication therapy rather than a surgery (another vet's option) which would be too hard on her.  Exactly one week later our Sadie is doing FANTASTIC!!!  She is not healed and it is not forever but she is happy, walking, eating and even met me at the door with today with her favorite toy!!  THANK YOU DR. WIEKAMP!!!!!!!P.S. Didn't even mention that the visit to our home and all 3 prescriptions totaled $133.10!  Better care and less expensive than taking her to our usual vet in San Clemente where we live!!! Read Less

If you need expertise, many, many years of experience, compassionate care, convenience and a vet who refuses to over-charge you, Dr. Wiekamp is the man for you. Over the years he has treated our cats when they have been ill and/or injured and every time the outcome has been the best possible scenario. Dr. Wiekamp is especially kind to one of our pets who is a true "fraidy cat" who runs away from her own shadow. He speaks softly to her before beginning treatment to try to put her as much at ease as possible, and does so with an astonishing success rate. The convenience and value of having a top notch veterinarian who is willing to work at our home (thereby reducing additional traveling related stress on sick animals) can't be understated. Dr. Wiekamp's prices are more than fair, and he only charges a single office fee for two animals, unlike most hospital vets who double charge. He keeps track of our cats' vaccinations and has all manner of supplies (vaccines, antibiotics, flea treatments, hairball medicine, you name it) available directly from his hospital on wheels. If a change in medication becomes necessary he has devised a convenient pick up system option so you can get all prescriptions directly from him without incurring an additional house call fee. Overall, Dr. Wiekamp is, by far, the best veterinarian in this area, and the finest one we have ever encountered in our 55+ years of pet ownership. Posted by: C. DREVER Read Less

Dr. Weikamp has been our vet for Charlie, our dog, ever since we've had him 10 years now. Charlie came from an abusive home, so when it comes to being groomed, he would bite and snarl at the groomer. Thank god for Dr Weikamp, because he's the only one who can successfully shave him. Anyways this review is about the incident 2 years ago when our poor charlie was attacked by a coyote on Xmas Eve. Barely breathing, and had punctured neck, along with deep scratches, Dr Weikamp (mind you it was on Xmas holiday, took charlie in his home, after giving him a tracheotomy (so he could breathe), and kept him safe to recover at his own home for a week. Charlie grew to love him, sitting on his lap while he was there. He most definitely saved his life. He is very straight forward, which I love, no beating around the bush. He will tell you what you need to hear, and take care of the situation- no half assing. Thank you Dr Weikamp. I feel relief when he has charlie bc I know he will be taken care of. Read Less

I agree with what the previous reviewers wrote.   If you are someone who is looking for a vet who will make you feel warm and fuzzy, answer every stupid question you want to ask in a way that makes you feel brilliant for asking, and will concentrate his attention on you (instead of on your pet) then Dr. Wiekamp isn't your guy.   If your pet is your priority and you want someone who is capable, professional, and has an uncanny ability to relate to and calm the animals he treats, then Dr. Wiekamp is exactly what you're looking for.    By the way - once you get to know him, you'll realize that he's wicked smart and that underneath his matter-of-fact delivery he's actually not only a truly kind soul but he's also pretty funny.    His prices are very fair, his examinations are thorough, his treatments have always been spot on (he has treated 8-10 of my pets over the years) and the convenience of having him come to my home (and the resultant decrease in stress and suffering for my pets) is worth its weight in gold.   I highly recommend him. So convenient! Dr Wiekamp will come right to your front yard in his mobile animal hospital. I first used him when my kids were little and it was just way to difficult to drag a toddler and a baby into a vet's office while trying to control a dog who did not want to be there!! It was even more convenient when that dog was too sick for me to get into the car and Dr Weikamp came to my house and put him down on our property. And so much less stressful for our poor dog!We have had several other pets seen by Dr Weikamp since then, one of which we took to another vet for a second opinion (just to be sure) and paid a lot more for the same diagnosis.I do have to say, (some people may find this a plus, others may find this a negative), Dr Weikamp is very matter of fact. And since there is no office staff to interact with and make you feel all fuzzy and warm, this can make him feel a little "stand-offish" (not sure if that's the best word to use?? Let's just say, he won't win you over with his charm! His veterinary abilities, yes.. his charm..no). And if you need someone to send you cute reminder post cards 5 times a year that you dog is due for this vaccine or that one, find another vet . But if you want a straight answer, without unnecessary tests and treatments, but with the goal of getting your pet to feel better, then A Mobile Vet is a great vet service!! And best of all...they come to you! Read Less

We had this jerk come to our home to put our dear 11 year old Doberman down. He did say hello to Capone, my Dobie but that was it. Didn't even take an extra second to pet him much less give him a bit of love. He didn't say two words to me except "do you want to pay now or after." I was already affected by his stiffness and coldness. While he prepared the medicine we spent our last moments with our baby. He then walks in the door and sticks my dog with the needle causing my dog to yelp and leap forward. My dog slipped on the hardwood floors. We had to pull my dog back to the blanket. He was quite shaken. This jerk didn't even tell us to hold the dog, have him lay down, or anything to keep him from leaping away. He didn't give us a second of notice he was going to stick my dog.The most emotion was a cold "my condolences." I felt anger towrds him but didn't say anything to my girlfriend as I didn't want to upset her further. Turns out she was even more upset by Dr. Wiekamps coldness to us and our dog as well as the harsh way he administered the injection (he absolutely should have given us notice he was about to do it and advised us to hold our dog.)He made it hard for me but I am so angry with him because he affected my girlfriend significantly.

We had this jerk come to our home to put our dear 11 year old Doberman down. He arrived on time was did say hello to Capne, my Dobie but that was it. Didn't take an extra second to even pet him. Didn't say two words to me except do you want to pay now or after. I was already affected by his stiffness and coldness. While he prepared the medicine we spent our last moments with our baby. He then walks in the door and sticks my dog with the needle causing my dog to yelp and leap forward. My dog slipped on the hardwood floors. We had to pull my dog back to the blanket. He was quite shaken. This jerk didn't even tell us to hold the dog, have him lay down, anything to keep him from leaping away. The most emotion was a cold "my condolences." I felt anger towrds him but didn't say anything to my girlfriend as I didn't want to upset her further. Turns out she was even more upset by Dr. Wiekamps coldness to use and our dog as well as the harsh way he administered the injection (he absolutely should have given us notice he was about to do it and advise us to hold our dog.) He made it hard for me but I am so angry with him because he affected my girlfriend significantly. She is a critical care ICU nurse. If anyone is used to these type of medical situations it is her. To have her this upset about the way he handled the whole procedure says alot. There are tons of other vets and plenty of mobile vets. Do yourself a favor pick someone else. Read Less

He spent more time telling us how annoyed he was with the drive to our house than looking at our cats and charged us $50 to say "I don't see anything wrong with your cat".Read Less
