It's been over a year now, but I want to share my story about why I left Aliso Niguel Animal Hospital. My pets had been treated by Dr. Tuz for many years, and we were always very happy with Dr. Tuz, her treatment, communication, and level of care. Around 8 p.m. on November 27, 2013, my 14 year old Maltese experienced a case of bloat and we had to rush her to the Hillcrest After Hours Emergency Center for treatment; they were able to treat the condition and we picked her up the next morning with some medications and instructions on how to feed and care for her. She seemed to be doing well for several days, but on the morning of December 5, she had another bloat episode as I was feeding her breakfast. It occurred just prior to the Aliso Niguel Animal Hospital office opening, so I rushed her down and waited for the doctor to arrive. Dr. Walter arrived and I shared the details of my dog's condition. Dr. Walter was able to alleviate the bloat situation and we agreed to leave my dog there for the day for further observation. Dr. Walter and I would discuss possible options for treatment, but her immediate recommendation was to do surgery to see what was going on. I explained to Dr. Walter that my fear was she had cancer or something awful and that being 14 years old, I was concerned she couldn't survive surgery. I was hoping there would be other tests or options that could be conducted that could help us decipher what was causing the problem.I returned late in the afternoon and met with Dr. Walter, who again told me her recommendation was surgery. When I again objected to surgery, she told me there were really no other options and I felt she was dismissing me. She mentioned I could have x-rays or ultrasound, but that would be upward of $300, so she didn't think I would be interested.I realized at that moment that Dr. Walter was under the impression that my objection to surgery was "money related." I remember actually feeling numb that she would be jumping to that conclusion. I left and went home, called a few friends to ask for advice, and they all encouraged me to go to a new vet and get a second opinion. The next day, I called a vet recommended by one of my friends, and over the phone we discussed the situation. The new vet agreed that there were non-invasive tests that could be conducted to help rule out possible conditions, and that surgery was certainly not a recommended option for a 14 year old dog unless absolutely necessary.I had to call Aliso Niguel to ask them to fax my dog's records over to the new vet. I spoke to Dr. Tuz, who had not been informed of my dog's condition. Dr. Tuz was very kind and offered to examine my dog, but at this point, I had a bad experience with Dr. Walter and I wanted a new vet to examine her.The new vet did the ultrasound and blood tests, which appeared normal, so that gave me some peace of mind. Long story short, she was diagnosed with a stomach condition, the best I can compare as irritable bowel syndrome - it turns out she also had very high blood pressure, which I never knew existed in dogs. Since December 5, 2013, she's been on a daily regime of multiple meds and a low-fat prescription dog food - it's been over a year since her diagnosis, and she celebrated her 15th birthday. My sister recently visited and said she looks healthier than she has in years.I'm so relieved that I took the advice of caring friends and brought my dog to a new vet, who saved her life without surgery. My husband and I both miss Dr. Tuz, but we feel our relationship with Dr. Walter always seemed strained for some reason; we're writing off to personality conflict.I'm glad to see other people have good experiences with Aliso Niguel Animal Hospital and wish Dr. Tuz the best of success. I'm giving a rating of 3 because we were always happy with Dr. Tuz and I don't want to leave a very low score for her business. Read Less
