We just moved to California and was referred to Dr. Simon by a neighbor. Our dog had a growth in her nostril that was growing and becoming ulcerated after we tried many courses of treatment. Before Dr. Simon did a biopsy he wanted to send us to an oncologist. Of course no specialist will see the dog without a biopsy confirming a cancer diagnosis. We went back to get a biopsy and he once again told us the 2 scenarios of our dogs prognosis without any information. Whether malignant or benign a portion of her nose would need to be REMOVED! At that point we went to a different Vet to get a second opinion and a biopsy. Thankfully our dog will NOT need to have her nose removed and it is not cancer or anything life threatening. He upset us terribly with no information to substantiate his ridiculous course of action he thought necessary for our dogs treatment. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT GO TO DR. SIMON!! Read Less

Cannot Recommend this incident happened a few years back but it's a situation that should never occur at any veterinary practice ever! What made this experience so awful was Dr. Tina Stephens trying to run up hundreds of dollars of tests on a puppy that she was told had Intra-Trac 3 vaccine 8 days earlier (this vaccine is for Adenovirous 2, Parainfluenza & Bordatella). The puppy was eating normally, and in fact, had a voracious appetite. Yet this vet wanted to do a$ 178.00 blood panel and $180.00 worth of x-rays and various and sundry other things adding up to $600!!! IMO, a good vet LISTENS to the information a client conveys in terms of symptoms, events and circumstances and proceeds to rule out things in order of probability. Treatment was declined because it seemed as inappropriate as Dr. Stephen's theatrics seemingly intended to frighten. The puppy in question was later taken to a veterinary practice on Laguna Canyon Rd, where the veterinarian determined she had "Kennel Cough" (Bordatella) from her recent intranasal vaccine. No hysterics, no fear tactics, just plain old excellent diagnostic skills ... Read Less

This hospital is fantastic! We moved to CA recently and had to find a new vet for our dog and 3 cats. I have been there twice, once for my dog's injured leg and once for a well visit for one of my cats, and I couldn't be happier. Super friendly staff, clean and welcoming atmosphere, and great service. At both visits, after consulting with the doctors, I received a breakdown of the recommended treatment and associated fees. Nothing was done until I gave consent to all treatment and charges, which makes for a pleasant check-out - no surprises when you get the bill! I highly recommend Marina Hills Hospital to anyone looking for a caring veterinarian's office. Read Less

I have always had pets, dogs and cats and by far this is the best place I have been to. They gave me a tour on my first visit there. I saw everything and it didn't smell like an animal hospital, ya know what I mean. The doctors and staff were very nice and I enjoyed my time there as well as my dog. He came out from the back with his tail wagging and a smile on his face. The girl who brought him up talked to me with words I can understand and explained when I would hear back from the doctor and made me feel right at home. The next day I recieved a call from the DOCTOR with my dogs blood results and he even answered a few more questions for me. I wish my doctor would be as efficent as these people are. To all Pet owners: Form your own opinions, but this is the appalling and unimaginable situation that happened to me. I am writing the following in hopes my story and the horrific, unbelievable situation that happened to my pet and I will provide you with information and insights that might save you and your pet from the heartache and injustice we went through. Additionally, to try and bring awareness to the public about the pet vaccines, particularly rabies, which are a political and economic scam being forced upon pet owners because they do not know the truth. Rabies, nationwide, is nowhere near the problem the veterinarians, media, politicians and bureaucrats would like you to believe. Imagine for a moment taking your pet, your beloved animal to your Veterinarian, because he/she is not feeling well. The same Veterinarian you have been taking your pet (s) to almost exclusively for approximately 6 years; the Veterinarian with whom you have come to trust with the care, concern and well-being for both you and your pet.?..ONLY TO find out the morning you are to pick him/her up, that your pet who was not feeling well, which you brought to him to care for, has instead been called in to animal control by one of the Veterinarian?s assisting Veterinary Technicians? who has falsely reported him/her to them saying that he/she has a fever and has ?been catching bats?. And, that because of her false report, your pet is being seized by animal control and will be quarantined for a mandatory period of at least 1 MONTH at a cost to you of $600.00, given you can provide proof of current rabies vaccination (that vaccination has been given within 1 year); or, if you are unable to provide current proof of rabies vaccination, that he/she will be quarantined for a period of 6 MONTHS at a cost to you in the amount of $3000.00! Add to this, that despite the fact this particular Veterinary Technician, (who coincidently has a husband that works for the Laguna Beach animal control) had given a false report to animal control, that it did not matter and that THERE WAS NOTHING YOU COULD DO ABOUT IT!!!! I cannot say enough for how grateful I am for Dr. Simon and his staff. I have a 14 month old Yorkie who recently fell off the couch and landed on her leg incorrectly. I took her to my normal vet and they insisted on doing surgery, since she weighs less than 5 pounds I felt that a surgery would be too much for her to handle. I took her to Dr. Simon for a second opinion, he prescribed her an anti-inflammatory and strict confinement for 7 days. Within days she was feeling better and now, 1 month later her leg is back to normal. Needless to say, I have switched her vet to Dr. Simon indefinitely, even though it is a 25 mile commute from home. It is well worth the care and committment that this staff has for their animal friends. Read Less

I have been using Marina Hills Animal Hospital for over 4 years and although I recently lost my dog, I will continue to recommend them and, someday in the future when I adopt a new friend, use them again. Dr. Simon, Dr. Stephens and their staff are extremely knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. They always discussed all options available along with costs and potential outcomes so I could make the best decision for my dog. Taking your furry friend to the vet is nearly always stressful...this team makes it much easier with their friendly, calm and caring attitude...I cannot recommend they highly enough!

Many thanks to the doctor and staff at Marina Hills! Read Less

Read Less

The puppy in question was later taken to a veterinary practice on Laguna Canyon Rd, where the veterinarian determined she had ""Kennel Cough"" (Bordatella) from her recent intranasal vaccine. No hysterics, no fear tactics, just plain old excellent diagnostic skills ... Read Less
