It took me months to get over my biggest anger and disgust to be able to write this review.We have 2 green cheek conures and brought them to Serrano for check ups etc. When we had decided to relocate abroad, we needed some help from the vet for health checks, microchips etc.The first thing we needed to do was have the birds microchipped. The vet KNEW we needed to bring these birds to another country and therefore needed a special chip. The vet inserted a chip in each bird that was only recognized in the USA. We called the vet and told them about our problem. Their solution was to just insert a second chip in these birds. Our birds are small so putting 2 chips in each of them would be barbaric so we opted not to do that.We asked the vet if they knew a place through whom we could ship the birds abroad. The vet gave us a phone number of some lady that had a very poor website with hardly info on it. We emailed her with questions about her services. Since she didn't respond, we asked her again. We tried calling her but she was not answering her phone either. So that wasn't successful,Through a lot of Googling we found a bird shipper called Avico Logistic Services in LA. They instructed us what we needed to do for them to be able to ship the birds on board of the plane with us.So back to Serrano. The birds were quarantined. The vet knew when we were leaving and so knew when we needed our birds back. By the time our departure date got closer, we started to get worried. No word from the vet yet about test results etc. Without test result for bird flu, our birds were not allowed to fly. Two days before we leave, went to the vet. They told us they had just sent the bloodwork to the lab and they're waiting for a response. TWO DAYS!!!! Our birds were quarantined longer than we wanted to because the vet didn't have results. We were so upset because we knew there was a chance we would not see our birds again. The front desk of the vet suggested we would book another flight. Our flight was paid for and booking a new flight 3 days later would have meant we had to pay for 2 completely new tickets. We were baffled they even opted this. They didn't do their job, why are we suffering from it. At the end of all, the vet even wanted to charge us for a fax they'd sent out to Avico and extra boarding time. Oh they also wanted to charge us because we took their valuable time. Dude, this is your effing job!One day before departure. Vet told us there was still no results. They said they had called the lab but nobody could speed up the process. The day of departure, we went to pick up our birds anyway at 6:30 am from the vet's office because we were flying out and didn't want to leave them with that vet. Avico, the bird shipping company told us we weren't able to bring our birds with us due to the mistakes of Serrano. Luckely for us, Avico did meet us in LA where the drop off point was. Crying hysterically we left the USA and left our birds with Avico. Avico had argued with Serrano, the same as us to make the vet understand that this was an emergency. Avico tried to work together with the vet but to no avail. The staff reacted very uninterested about our situation and were very rude to the owner of Avico. The only vet that showed some compassion while we were crying was Kristy but she was the same vet that inserted the wrong chip in our birds. Then, Avico texted us right before boarding our plane, that they had found another vet who would make and sign the health certificate and the birds would be shipped 3 days later to us. Without Avico we would have not have our birds with us. If they would have stayed with Serrano, they would have been sold to someone else. We are so grateful to have our babies with us, but in no shape or form thanks to Serrano. This was one of the most traumatising things we have ever been through. As I stated in the beginning of my review. I needed time away from what happened before I could write a well written review about all this. This is so important for people to know. Especially if you ever have plans to move outside of the USA. Don't use Serrano. Use a vet that Avico recommends to you and endorses. VETS: Scott & Kristy Read Less

We have been going to Serrano Animal hospital for many years and the staff is amazing and they accommodate me with my crazy dog Romie.  Dr Krause saved my dog from losing her foot due to poor care from another veterinarian out of the area.  She had to amputate her toe but sure hasn't slowed her down. My animals were treated like they were special and Dr. Sydney has an amazing bed side manner. My beloved Sonny passed away about a year ago at the age of 16 and I have wanted to write a review to support them as they supported me so many times throughout Sonny's time with them. These people are angels.  When my 15 yr old adopted retriever mix got to the point where she couldn't even stand any longer, I contacted them to arrange for her to be put to sleep.  They handled her and me (I was a freakin emotional wreck!!) with such love and compassion.   If you are looking for top quality animal care for that special member of your family, I highly recommend this place.  They will love and care for your pet like their own!!! This is a review relating to an experience I had a few years ago at this vet. It irritated me so much that I was not even able to focus on writing a review until now. I found this vet by doing a Google search for Animal Hospital because I was having an emergency with my cat and we needed medical attention ASAP (this was before I knew about Animal Urgent Care). I called in ahead of time to explain the issue and see if they could look at my cat -sure they said, come on in. My invoice is time stamped at 5:35 pm and I remember the vet looking at my cat, who was crying in agony and laying on his back, say there was nothing wrong with him to just go home. After insisting that there was an issue with him when she tried to brush it off as normal behavior she recommended that I take him to Animal Urgent Care because they were going to be closing soon and he MIGHT have a urinary blockage. They charged me $90 and sent me on my merry way. Fast forward 30 minutes, when I reach Animal Urgent Care we are given the alarming news that he did in fact have a urinary blockage and his bladder was full of urine, crystals, blood, and a mess of other stuff from this being a serious medical issue. He was under their care as well as our regular vet, who doesn't have "Hospital" in their name, for about 5 days and spending the sum of about $4000 to resolve this issue.My major problem with this business is A. They knowingly took us in when they were about to close, B. They took us in when I was having a panic attack on the phone because my cat was in agony instead of giving us the phone number to Animal Urgent Care right then and there, C. The vet "examined" my cat and determined nothing was wrong with him, and D. They collected $90 even though they could not help, they did a half-assed job of assessing the situation, and basically sent me right out the door immediately after I came in.Like I said, I was infuriated that they were so absent-minded and greedy. My cat almost died because of his condition and had I taken their recommendation of just going home he would have died. It was only because I INSISTED something was wrong with him that the vet happened to mention he MIGHT have a urinary blockage. I'm BEYOND frustrated with this place. Read Less

Finding a vet who takes the treatment of small animals seriously has been a challenge for me in the past, but I would trust Dr. Pokard, Dr. Krause and Sydney with any of my pets! Dr. Krause is the cat whisperer. She saved my baby boys life on more than one occasion. I was told by a previous vet he would only live to two years old. Before moving out of the area, we took all of our pets to Dr. Weldy and his staff. Dr. Weldy performed surgery on our rat to remove many tumors and that rat lived another couple of years. Most vets would not bother with a rat. Not only are they compassionate, they are competent. We still call him for second opinions and consultations. Read Less

The service that they provided was wonderful, the workers at the front are very diligent, helpful, caring and polite. I brought my little budgie to them and they took great care of her. The doctors knew what they were doing and recommended the best for my bird. The owner of this place is truly a very kind hearted man that cares only about the well-being of the animals that are brought here. I was charged for puppy tests (x-rays & bloodwork) & not given the results. A couple days later, after no phone call, I asked for my money back. So I could take to my puppy somewhere they would actually help/treat her. I went in since they couldn't help me via phone.  I was invited & escorted in an examine room. I thought, finally someone is going to help us.  Then I was screamed & yelled at (by a large intimidating man). I was not allowed to talk (as I was being harassed & yelled at). When I tried to speak, he called the police & said I was trespassing. Again I was invited into an exam room, I was threatened & then he lied to the police; even when the police arrived & asked to speak with me. The female vet told the police she would like to finish speaking with me. If I was trespassing why was I in an exam room with the vet that I saw originally & why did she want to talk to me if I was trespassing.  Obviously I was not arrested, as I did nothing wrong. The police were upset they were called when they have actual crimes to handle. The vet was leaning on the door. I don't know if he was stable. Or sober. What I do know is normal people, let alone a professional do not conduct themselves in such a manner. It was disgusting & shameful the way he conducted himself. I do not appreciate being treated & talked to the way I was. The most unprofessional experience I have ever had! You don't treat people so poorly. It's inexcusable. The police informed me that there are bad/mean people everywhere; and that they encounter it on a daily basis. It's a sad world we live in. It's shameful the way he conducted himself, including wasting city resources & the officer's time. I would like my money back & an apology. Read Less

I had the absolute worst experience here. My dog had gotten hit by a car four months ago and I have been working the nerve to write this review. I didn't think they needed it but I will do this for my dog and how she went. The doctor seemed as if he was all about the money, and had barely any sympathy for the situation. He apologized many times for the way she had died but it didn't seem sincere. We paid out of pocket up front and he suggested putting her to sleep was the right decision and we paid for the shot but she had died on her own. I felt there was something missing that he wasn't telling us about her accident. I would not recommend bringing animals in here for any emergency situation. He told my mother he wished she had been up front that we couldn't pay for the treatment she had gotten. While my dog was being tested and treated he named many over the top expenses and tests we would have to put her through. May I say again she HAD DIED ON HER OWN and he made it seem as if she would live through the tests she would be put through. They sent a card to me and the staff was completely and utterly kind, supportive, and more helpful in the event. The staff had written and signed the card and the doctor only wrote his name on the smallest corner of it. Interpret the event how you want. Read Less

Words cannot describe how wonderful our experience was at Serrano Animal Hospital.  From the moment we walked in to the vet care, they treated us like family.  Dr. Krause was so kind and gentle with my beloved cat.  She treated her so carefully, was attentive to her and how she was feeling.  Dr. Krause specializes in cat medicine and I can tell she truly cares about animals and has a deep connection with them.  She explained the steps we are going to take to get my baby feeling better. Captain Chubs had a horrible allergic reaction at dog beach this morning and while I was ready to panic and freak out the team at SABH were quite the opposite; from the frantic call in, arrival with my swollen bear, to the pick up, the team was phenomenal!!! I have been bringing my rabbit here for about 6 months now. He has a chronic cold and we've tried many different medications to help fix it. The vet is really great, but the wait times are a bit long- if I have an appointment at noon I expect to be seen before 1 PM. I understand emergencies happen but it's been like this with every visit.My main complaint about them is that they use RoadRunner Pharmacy for compounded medications, rather than a local vendor. RoadRunner is hard to get a hold of and expensive. I really wish they would just give me the prescription instead of outsourcing it to Arizona. Read Less

Our girls' kitten went on the adventure of a lifetime when he snuck out of the garage and climbed under the hood of a neighbor's car! It was truly a miracle that he was not hurt, maimed, or killed. After he was retrieved, he was sent to Serrano Animal Hospital where he received the best medical care. The kitten walked away with a few bumps amd bruises but nothing serious. Would you just drop your child off at a hospital if they were injured or sick then go home and wait for them to call you back? I sure hope not! Our injured snake was denied much needed medical care because we wanted to be present during the initial assessment. The lack of transparency at this office is very concerning. I am so grateful for the expert and loving care that my cat, Rose,  received at Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital.  I am especially grateful for Dr. Krause and the time she took with Rose.  Although we eventually had to put Rose to sleep, I know she received the best care in her last few months.  Dr. Krause had tears in her eyes as she put Rose to sleep.  She and the veterinary technicians were so gentle and loving with Rose and very comforting to me as well. I own[ed] a Betta fish, and called about having a tumor on his head removed. Dr. Weldy spent a great deal of time on the phone with me, and explained what he wanted to do and how he'd go about it-- even just how much it would cost for the whole process: only $100.I was very heartened by his words, and brought my fish in to the hospital, but upon examining him, the Dr. said it would not be worth it because it had spread to his nostril, poor thing, and so the Dr. actually had to put my fish to sleep, as he had been suffering for too long. This he did, and I just want to add that everyone at the office was very sympathetic and said there'd be no charge at all!I would highly recommend Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital to anyone. I have come to this veterinarian practice for over 15 years. When I was young I brought my hamster and guinea pig when they each fell I'll to see Scott Weldy DVM. Scott has always been a fantastic vet who is extremely knowledgable and very good at handling even the tiniest most fragile critters. He treats all pets with great care and does great work in the community helping wildlife. Last Friday my younger brothers guinea pig had a seizure. I went in as an emergency hoping to see Scott but he was not in. Nicole Beaudet DVM quickly took Razor the guinea pig and put him on oxygen while assessing his situation. She was extremely informative and gave great insight on what was going on with razor. Unfortunately he sustained damage that he could not recover from. Nicole was extremely compassionate, comforting, and gave my brother peace of mind knowing Razor was in a better place. Thank you Nicole for being so helpful in a time of mourning for my brother.
