This place refused to supply my dog with his prescribed medication without his annual check up which is understandable bur when I told them I can not wait 2 weeks for the next opening because my dog is in pain and asked what the medication was called so I can look somewhere else that can take him sooner they refused to tell me what the medication was called and told me I was rude. We ADORE this vet. We went to a few others in the area before ending up here, but love the fair prices and good quality service. Yes, we aren’t the only ones who love it here and yes, we often have to wait (sometimes even with an appointment), but it’s definitely worth the $$ we save. I am disgusted with the front staff/receptionist of this vet office I will never go back, my family & I have brought our dogs here on a few different occasions previously since we live near this office. Last week my dog had a fox tail  in her ear & about mid day her crying & constant rubbing of her ear worsened. It was around 12/1pm and I walked into the office that was completely empty only 3 women sitting at the front desk. I check in at the front desk & was told " the vet was at lunch" understanding it's lunch hour I said okay no problem I can wait in the waiting area till the vet is back from lunch. The rude women at the front began to tell me that I would need to wait outside for 30 minutes (mind you it's 97 degrees outside) and I am a paying customer visiting this facility during there NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS. What kind of customer service is that to tell me I have to wait outside. I got the vibe that women wanted me to not wait inside so they could talk & gossip without being bothered. Not only was it out of line for them to treat a loyal customer and their dog like that... but they were so rude and inconsiderate, while I was worried about my dog. I left the facility as the receptionist ordered me to get out. I will never go back to Woodside Animal Hospital, I feel the doctor they work for should know these women treat their loyal neighborhood customers this way. Read Less

i have had nothing but good exams/surgeries/emergencies at this vet.  we got out old man doggie, Russell Wilson as a rescue and this was a vet that was on the card to take him too.  I loved them so much that first visit that I switched from my old vet that charged enormous prices for nothing really..was so tired of that.  we have had our other dogs teeth cleaned a few times since and Russell was having some coughing problems and got him in right away.  they called me for a few days after just to check on him!!  that is awesome and really makes me feel like we made the best decision to go with this animal hospital!!  thanks and I hope this helps make peoples decisions to go here.  FYI Jack in the Box next door lets you park there to go to the clinic.  so no problems finding parking ever!!! I wish i could give zero stars. DO NOT!! Take your animals here. I took my dogs here for annual shots and as a new dog owner I trusted them to give the shots that she would need. I treated our dog like it was one of my kids. Anyways last time I brought her in for shots I had my previous paper which had the reminders for upcoming shots. Distemper/parvo was not on there. They failed to give my dog her distemper/parvo shot. My dog contracted parvo and unfortunately passed away she was 1 1/2 years old. When we called and asked why she was not given her shots they put us on hold for a while. When they came back on they said we see notes that we refused the shot. The shot costs $22 I would never jeopardize the health of my dog over $22. My wife said to them no you just added that in there to cover yourself. They said well I don't know what to tell you it is in there now. I urge you to do as much research as you possibly can to make sure this doesn't happen to you. And again DO NOT! Their staff was super unfriendly, wasnt even greeted as i walked in, even when i made the appointment i got attitude over the phone. I dont know if it has to do with my dog being a pitbull but they need to realize that animals are frightened when they are there which makes it uneasy for the owner. I could tell you the whole Spiel of what happened but what it boils down to was an unfriendly staff. There was only one lady I could say was fairly decent. No words to explain how happy it makes me to be able to take Rascal on his regular morning and evening walks again! And to have him trot to the door to go with me whenever I leave to run an errand because he is and will always be my "road dog"! We love our little fluffy butt so much and to see him making such great strides in the right direction back to his happy, healthy self is priceless! At this time I am feeling particularly blessed to have such a great Doctor and team... at his vet that have not only taken great care of Rascal and have treated him with love and cheered him along, but have also shown an immense amount of support when I have been brought to tears first from the pain of watching him suffer and now from the joy of watching him recover. We recently moved to the area and in the last month have had urgent situations with 2 of our cats. They were able to get us in right away, staff (from reception to the vet techs to the veterinarians) are all very friendly and you can tell they really care about animals. I came here because the price is cheaper than the beautiful nice new vet I went to last time by my house . This place is small, old, needs to be updated, smells like pee. There were 5 staff members working and none of them greeted me or acted like I was there. They all proceeded to have their own personal conversations. This one nurse or maybe she was the Veternarian, was walking around eating cookies, blatantly ignoring me. I am used to being treated much better than this at an animal hospital. Was referred here by a friend. I take both of my dogs here now and I love Dr. Port. She really knows her stuff. I am always so thankful they figure out what is going on with my dog without guessing and having me do un-necessary tests and a large bill at the end. I cannot say enough good things about this vet! My dog has a huge lump on his hip and I thought for sure it was cancer. I found the vet on yelp, it was close to my house and the appointment would be $45. I had a little trouble finding the place but I eventually did. It's directly west of Jack in the Box. The parking is kinda crappy. There are only about 4 spaces out front. I parked next door which worked better bc my pup could relive himself on the way over. The waiting room is small and when I got there it was a little crowded, but everyone was friendly and made room for us. I filled out the forms and waited for us to be called. Only took around 10 mins from walking in the door to filling out the forms to being called in. The nurse took us back to get weighed and then to the room. I told him what the deal and he said the doc would be in shortly. Dr. Porte came in and introduced herself and started her exam. She said the lump was only a cyst and they were common for older dogs  (My pup is 11) Good news! She measured it and told me to watch it and call if it breaks open or if there are any issues. 2 days later we woke up and the cyst broke open and was bleeding. I called the vet immediately and was worried they wouldn't be open since it was Saturday. They were open! The got me in an hour later to see Dr. Porte again. She cleaned it and looked at it. She told me they would give me some meds and gave me tips on how to keep him from biting the cyst and making it worse. I went to check out and was honestly a little worried about how much this appointment plus meds were going to cost me. Ended up they only charged me for his meds which were about $40. The cyst has gotten better and I am glad my boy is feeling better. I decided to write this review now bc they just called me (a week later) to check on us. Things like that go a long way. Everyone at this place, from the desk staff to the dr, care about animals. It's written all over every interaction they have. I am so happy and thankful to have found a caring and affordable vet!!! Brought my new puppy there for a first checkup. First of all, there was nowhere to park. I ended up across the street and had to cross four lanes of traffic on foot carrying my dog . Waiting room was packed. I waited at least a half hour past my scheduled appointment time. Vet was OK. I wanted to have my dog microchipped. The vet and the technician put the needle right through the skinfold, resulting in the microchip being injected onto the exam table, instead of into the puppy. So no microchip for my puppy, and two big punctures in his neck. I'm not impressed with them so far....... Read Less

Although this review has a sad ending, I have to give Woodside Animal Hospital five stars. My kitty broke his leg and hid for over three weeks, causing the break to heal wrong. When I called, they were able to see him that day. They gave me an upfront price for the exam and x-ray, and didn't try to up sell. We went over all of my options and set the date for his surgery. In the meantime, I called around to make sure the price was reasonable, and it was the same or lower than anywhere else I called. Knowing this, Mr Kitty went in for his operation. They called throughout the day, just to let me know how he was doing. Sadly, surgery has risks. Mr Kitty stopped breathing shortly before I left to pick him up. They did everything to try to bring him back, but he passed away. The vet offered to stay, if I wanted to come say goodbye. They didn't charge for the surgery, which was incredibly kind. Despite Mr Kitty dying, I'd still bring my other cat here. Everyone truly loves the animals they help. They are incredibly kind and professional. Dr Porte and Dr Johnson are absolutely wonderful! Wish we had never taken our beloved dog here for surgery - she died a few weeks after her cyst removal. She was a very healthy dog and has never had any problems or health issues! To start off, they did not do a blood test which should be standard before any surgery The "operation" took way too long and we were anxious to get her out ...Then incision was very poorly done: stitches almost an inch apart ... no wonder it did not heal and got inflamed/infected despite on antibiotics. The stitches were removed on the floor in the dirty waiting area ... after another week we insisted that she be seen by a doctor as the original "surgeon" just left for maternity leave ... Another course of antibitics ... when she still did not get better we took her to a different pet hospital where we were told that her health totally deteriorated and .... HOW SAD IS THAT! We are blaming the careless operation of WOODSIDE ANIMAL HOSPITAL --- they are probably fine for shot but NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR PET THERE FOR ANY SERIOUS PROCEDURE LIKE SURGET+RY .... please Read Less

When we moved to Lakeside from Michigan we had to find a vet fast because one of our dogs had been diagnosed with kidney failure during our cross-country move. I was nervous because we've had a couple bad experiences, but Woodside really delivered. All of the vets we've seen there have been knowledgeable, friendly and haven't tried to upsell us (a huge bonus when you have dogs). My neighbor had to put her cat down and even though they were not her normal vet they sent her a card and were compassionate about the whole thing. I've taken my dog Buster to see Dr Porte since the day we adopted him in 2007. They are always reasonable on fees, and never recommend anything but necessary treatments. Recently, Buster was super sick and we had to go back in 5 days in a row for exams, tests and meds. Dr Porte was patient and kind, and helped return Buster to good health without jumping in and ordering a million unnecessary and expensive tests. Woodside Animal Hospital (12149 Woodside Ave. 92040, 619-561-5311) then charged me $148.50 for killing my cat. The long story: Ref was getting old, he would have been 17 on St. Patricks Day. But he was still spry and bright eyed. He'd started having issues swallowing so I took him in for a once over. I know he was getting close but we're talking weeks or more before his time was here. The vet, Lorrie Porte tried to check his tongue but he was having none of that. She suggested that they give him a little gas to calm him down and took him in the back. When she came out she stated that when she tried to turn his tongue over that it tore open about 2/3 of the way across the base. This was a tragic accident, he was dying and there was nothing that could be done. After it was done I took him home. When I took him back the next day to be cremated they presented me with a bill for an examination, anesthesia and euthanasia totaling $148.50. I was shocked and outraged that they would charge me for an examination that lead to his fatal injury and then the euthanasia necessary because of that injury. When I objected the vet and staff defended their actions stating 'they were just trying to help my cat' and saw absolutely no problem with billing for the services that killed him.
