I have a 9 year old dog that has Addison disease. She has to take prednisone daily. I tried filing her prednisone at my usual pharmacy and I was told she had to go in for a check up before the next prescription could be filled. I was never notified by the pharmacy that I would have to bring my dog in for a check up and was running low on prednisone so l called Loomis basin for a refill to get by until I could bring my dog in. I was never called back. I called back 3 days later and was told the incompetent pharmacist put a note in the chart that the prednisone can't be filled and no one called me to let me know. Now I have 2 pills left and no way to get more. I talked to a manager and after trying to blame me or "legalities" for the issue they caused by not doing there job 2 times. She would not make any attempt to get my dog in to be seen. Said the only thing I could do was to bring my dog in for emergency and I would have to pay the fee. This place is your worst nightmare! They tell you one thing over the phone and when you arrive it’s another thing.
You can’t make an appointment for your pet to be seen because they are booked out for 2 months. So if your pet NEEDS to be examined or was bit by a snake or hit by a car or has something stuck in its throat or a nail in its paw……. You BEST go somewhere else!!!! You will be waiting in their parking lot in the Heat (if it’s summer) for Hours!!!!! Not 1 or 2 or 3 but more like 5,6,7….
AND talk about Over Charge!! For a antibiotic they charged me $112.00!!! I check with my pharmacy and they only charge me $10.00 for the same antibiotic!!
CONSUMER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!
This was such wonderful place many years ago.
Now it’s unfriendly, unorganized, understaffed, WAY over priced!
I honestly think this place is about their FEES rather than truly helping or caring for your pet.
There are many other wonder veterinarians in the Loomis, Rocklin, Roseville, Auburn Area!
Please go check them out!! You will be amazed how much better the service is and cost friendly! Read Less

This is a great vet hospital. I have been to many of the vets in the area for the past 25 years. There are pros and cons to them all. I chose Loomis Basin because I felt that my puppy would get the best care here. My first visit was free and i signed up for the care club for my puppy's first year which will save on overall costs. After signing up, my puppy got into a plant in my backyard and got some stuck in his roof of his mouth/throat. He ended up having to have a few tests done and then be put under General anesthesia to remove the plant that ended up stuck in the roof of his mouth causing him pain. I am so grateful the doctor knew what she was doing, didn't push any procedures on me, and allowed me to decide what i wanted done with my puppy. He is now back to his happy self running around and not in pain. The only thing I would have to say is this vet hospital is Very Expensive. It cost me a pretty penny to have this removed from his throat, but they were upfront about costs and when i asked ahead of time how much, they were very willing to give me estimates and actually came in under the estimate. I was very impressed with the amount of doctors and specialists that are at Loomis Basin. They have a great set up. I know my puppy will get great care here. Read Less

Said it to the girl up front said it to the vet tech, said it to the next vet tech, said it too the vet. The vet finishes looking at my dogs eye and then says that from here on the tests cost money. Was then charged all the money I could spend without getting the rx. The whole point was to get the eye rx for my dog. What good does an exam do without fixing it?
They took my money and never gave me what I went for. That's theft.

Yesterday was my first time at Loomis Basin Vet. It was a Sunday, my regular vet was closed, but my beloved dog, Sheilah, of 16 years had made it clear to me that it was time to be put to rest. Every one of the staff I dealt with was so kind, professional and compassionate, from the receptionist to the techs and the doctor. It was very important to me that Sheilah not have to go inside the hospital. Routine visits brought her tremendous stress and she was already suffering enough. They had a lovely private patio outside that we accessed by crossing a lawn. The vet techs were so patient while we said our good byes. They listened to me tell of the happy day when we first got her as a pup. For such a sad day, and considering we were all perfect strangers, we felt the care and compassion as if we'd been lifelong clients. The main complaints people have are the wait times. If you remember that this is an emergency vet and critically injured pets take priority you will understand the wait time more. I have been both a non emergency, and emergency customer here. I am always impressed with the level of knowledge the staff has. While I may not schedule an appointment for shots here, I would recommend them for anyone who has a pet that is sick or injured. They have saved my dog twice now, the last one she was hospitalized for a week and had several blood transfusions done. The techs even took funny photos of her to show me. My dog is a nightmare to hospitalize (severe kennel anxiety and screams bloody murder and chews on the bars so she gets sedated) She is 13 years old and still crazy as can be. The staff is amazing, their combined knowledge is the best I've found (comparable to UC Davis) and I cannot recommend them enough. You will wait, and they aren't cheap. We called to make an appointment for our dogs' bordetella vaccine. We were placed on hold for 45 minutes. The receptionist, when told how long the hold had been, said she had been busy with sick animals. I have been a client of Loomis Basin for over 15 years. I have had to be there for routine visits, for euthanasia, and for critical care. The most recent experience was six months ago my little Chihuahua was ran over by my horse and substained five skull fractures. They were able to save him and he is doing great. They have very knowledgeable staff and really care about the animals. With that said I read a couple of the other reviews and it is true that you cannot get into the vet on the same day without having an "emergency appointment" which I believe, adds $59 to just the visit. I also have experienced long wait times and very long checkout times. Last time I was there there was at least 12 people waiting to check out and it took me over half an hour to do so. I keep coming back because they know their stuff and any other veterinary practice that is around our area is either the same cost or more. I do hope they get a handle on the wait times and the checkout times. It's extremely frustrating having to sit and wait for that long period of time . Read Less

My cat was seen here in 2012, and I am unsure if Loomis Basin had been purchased by VCA at that time or not. I also can't comment on how this place is for routine care, as my cat was referred here by my regular veterinarian for a procedure with a board-certified surgeon. I have to say that my experience was phenomenal! My cat was hospitalized at Loomis Basin for about 5 days, and during that time he was unblocked, had PU surgery done, and received a blood transfusion. Loomis Basin saved his life. No, it wasn't cheap (far from it!). But I visited my boy everyday, and the staff was always pleasant and willing to answer any questions that I had. Dr. Griffin performed the surgery, and everything went without a hitch. My regular vet was impressed with how well my cat healed after surgery, as a testament to Dr. Griffin's skill in performing a delicate procedure. Again, I can't speak for Loomis Basin nowadays, but I was surprised enough by all the negative reviews that I felt compelled to add my story.Read Less

Read Less

These people are dishonest. Way overpriced and dishonest. Told them I had x amount of money for eye exam and the accompaning rx.
DO NOT GO HERE.
* The statement from the Vet below is untrue. She lied then and is lying now.
I went to South Auburn Vet in Auburn and they did everything, including the rx, for $65.

I was recently there for renewal of bravedo and heart-worm, I was told by the vet I had to renew rabies to get these prescriptions. Never before have I had to do this. A titers would show rabies is still in each of my dogs. I paid $160 more for two meds than online local prices, and both dogs came down with vaccine implications within a month. My heartfelt thanks to Loomis Basin for making such a sad time about as good as it could be. Read Less

But you do get what you pay for. Read Less

unexpected charge. They have quite the clientele so no need to have such a mark up. I really have to watch what I spend. and just want to keep my cat healthy but not at their prices! We called to make an appointment for our dogs' bordetella vaccine. We were placed on hold for 45 minutes. The receptionist, when told how long the hold had been, said she had been busy with sick animals. There has to be a better way to answer the phone and get patients taken care of, especially for something as mundane as an inoculation. Literally every time we've called for any kind of appointment, we've been placed on hold for varying lengths of time, but many of five minutes or more. I consider this to be excessive. Read Less

Read Less

My cat, Buffy was diagnosed in 2014 with Fatty Liver Disease and almost died. Dr. Noelani Reinker treated her. She worked miracles with Buffy and always was reassuring, calm, and positive. She took care of her for several months and even left word with the staff to call her on her days off if I brought Buffy in. She called Buffy "her cat". When my other cat, Cindy became ill in 2015, Dr. Reinker consulted on her (at my request) even though Cindy wasn't her patient.
