This is my second time here with a different dog. The first time here I saw this young doctor and he was great. Nice with my sick dog, talked to me about my dog and taking care of it and understood about financial issues i had. Now the second time I went here completely different. I saw this older doctor who wasnt that nice or personable and who seemed to instruct me to out put my dog on a scale ...hold.my dog during exam. I truly have mixed feelings about going back now. Super expensive vaccinations while the one in North Figueroa was WAY cheaper. Big rip off. The wait was super long. I highly do not recommend. Looking for a friendly vet got to the North Figueroa one. I love it over there. Read Less

I have a 12 year old Dalmatian that was seen at HLP Animal Hospital for the first 10 years of her life, however I changed vets 2 years ago because there was never consistency with the doctors. There was a period of time, maybe 4 years that I requested a particular veterinarian. He was amazing, but left about 3 years ago.  It was a battle to get an appt. with him. Today I took her there as North Figueroa Dog and Cat (my new vet for the past 2 years) was closed for vacation.  My dog has been ill since our 13 year old male Dalmatian passed away on Monday.  I figured I would have a doctor check her for any fever or virus she may have, although I personally feel she is grieving the loss. I signed in and went outside to wait as the lobby was full. A few minutes later the receptionist came out to let me know they weren't accepting walk ins.  I explained that my dog could see a technician as I wanted her temperature checked.  She told me they weren't available and never offered a later time to come by. I am done with this place!  I have spent several thousands of dollars at HLP throughout the years. One thousand was for a surgery that was to remove a tumor which turned out to be a ball of fat. I truly believe this place is focused on making $$ and not caring about the pet or the concerns of the owner. Stay away from this place. There are a couple of other clinics in the area, North Figueroa Dog and Cat or Eagle Glen  veterinarian (I called and they were so apologetic as to not having availability today and gave me an emergency vet referral). I took my dog to this Animal Hospital for several years until the wait time and horrible customer service became unbearable. First, I stopped taking my dog here because of the wait time. Usually an hour or more with an appointment, then another 20 minute wait to pay the bill. Each time this happened the staff failed to acknowledge that I was waiting for an extensive period of time. I stopped bringing my dog here, however I was still ordering dog food. I recently ordered prescription dog food and I was told it would arrive on a certain day. When I called they did not have it and told me it would arrive two days later. I called again two days later and still no dog food. Not once did the staff call me to let me know the status of the dog food or apologize for the delay. Overall, the staff members do not accommodate their customers and some have a negative attitude. At this point, I would rather drive further and spend more than go to this vet. Read Less

I seldom bother to leave revues, and i'm a happy go lucky feller, really, but it's been 15 years My family has been coming here and enough is enough. Firstly I want to say that ther work they do can be stressful and they do deal with emergencys every day that i'm there. I've made friends with every single staff member in the front and even the lowest member of the food chain knows My wifes name. I know personally the family of a few nurses there. They helped Us ease the pain of several dying loved pets over the years. They can be, fantastic.However: From year one, the staff of doctors and experts changed almost every six months, no one stayed for any amount of time to build up a trust level, and My wife, would find excuses to visit other hospitals for certain members of our family as certain staff stopped being available. There were also several different pets (who have since passed, sadly) who they could not diagnose. Test after test after test on multiple cats and dogs. And I started to see a pattern of never being able to 100% give you a test result: "The results show that this MAYBE (fill in the blank), but then again it might be (again)"...tests We would pay upwards to $800 for when all was said and done. The final straw was this week, and involves dental extractions. Ten years ago. a tooth removal, under anethsia, cost roughly 200.00...... last year another animals cost almost 500.00....I'm like, dang....ioh well, the cost of living these days....and now a new estimate for a upcoming cats visit for again, the same procedure, over $1100!!!!! What the hell? My wife called around and found the same exact service with a great place We have used for emergencies back down around $400, and when she called to compare and inquire, she was told that it was going to be based on how many bone shards in a single broken tooth they would find and extract! Have you ever heard? She said it might be as low at $800......Nope, sorry....We've moved away from this being our "local" and only kept coming back because they had such a huge service history with Us, but going back thru records We kept in manila folders that are better organized then this vets office system, I found huge and wild inconsistancies in the pricing and billing. I've had enough, so has My family. What other revues have said is true. The wait  at this location is agony sometimes and the ideas for treatment and the cover up of errors is massively flawed. The Doctors/Staff take the utmost care and time with you at Highland Park Animal Hospital upon your visits. And the place is Always Clean! Annual check ups, the scary what is going on with my dog/cat routine while you have a knot in your stomach, it's just the best place to be. Really! The fees are Not over the top like going into an emergency room waiting for hours and be charged gazillions that you cannot afford. This establishment cares and that's what you need. Fuming right now after my phone "conversation" with Alexa €so much so I'll have to write a thorough review another day. Reception is absolutely the worst. I've been bringing my pets here for some time now and the doctors are okay, but I will not be returning due to the lack of respect and compassion received from the front office. I've gotten the impression numerous times that reception and the veterinarian assistants do not like their job, but have overlooked it because of the convenient location. I'd recommend looking elsewhere, you and your pets deserve compassion and consideration, especially when your pet is in need. They do not have time for even their long time clients/patients. Dr. Creighton is the best!!! She really cares about my dogs health & answers any questions I have. I recommend her to anyone! I always have great experience when I go. The prices are reasonable as well. I prefer going here than to the north animal fig hospital I switched & I do not regret it one bit. Read Less

I have been taking my dogs here since the 80's. Consistent, friendly service from staff. Never had any problems. I now live in Covina, but because I work in Highland Park and my family still lives there, I bring my dogs there. Read Less

Second time here, and so far so good! Had a slight emergency with my dog, no time to wait for an appointment so I "walked in". I was expecting a long wait (judging from the the number of furry patients I saw in the waiting room) but we were seen within 10mins. Friendly staff, clean premises and Dr. Palmer was wonderful and patient in explaining my dog's "situation" with me. He left me a nice detailed voicemail message after my dog's surgery, which I appreciated tremendously. Read Less

I left after waiting two hours, going back to Dr. Birr in Burbank. Two people behind the counter did mostly nothing the whole time I was there. When I asked about the wait, the man told me I was next. They then proceeded to call another client ahead of me. Probably a good thing, since they could not cure a simple case of conjunctivitis. My dog was likely gonna go a third round of eye medication. Also, on my first visit they hit me up for an unnecessary test since I told them what it was and how she got it! I knew it might be sketchy since when I called last week, they kept me on hold for ten minutes before I hung up to call back. Maybe there is a great doctor there, I never saw her. Dr Palmer saved our Little Little, he didn't give up on her when she had less than 50% survival!!! Thank you, Thank you to Dr Palmer and the rest of fantastic staff!!! The staff here have been so friendly and helpful. My wife and I have several cats, one of which is geriatric and with additional special needs. He's in his golden years, and the advice and consideration we've received in addition to their medical service have increased the quality of the time he has left with us. Read Less

I was referred by a friend because I was in need of some vet care but don't really have a lot of extra. I heard they were loving and caring and also that their fees were reasonable. I took two feline furry friends in today and could not have been more pleased with the level of service we received. The doctor spent a good deal of time with us and was loving and kind to our 'children.' All of the staff members were also attentive and did not act as if time were an issue while my husband and I went back and forth between us of who talked the most. We are moving cross country and am sorry we just now found this place. If we could bottle them up and take them with us it would be great. We left there feeling happy, relieved and were very satisfied with the charges we incurred. I highly recommend them to any of you in need of loving and compassionate animal care at a loving and affordable price.Read Less

I went in very distraught because my dog was having cluster seizures, I was afraid and very nervous, I highly recommend Dr. Sheri Johnson! She is a very caring Dr that goes above and beyond. She even called me a week later to see how my Sancho was doing. She made me feel better in dealing with his seizures. She really cares for animals and people. Read Less

No dog likes going to the vet. But I believe that our dog Lulu secretly liked being able to be greeted by the smiling faces here. They've been nothing but caring and helpful. Minus one star for not being able to make our dog live forever. ;) Read Less

I went In without appointment and I was there for 2 hours and I never got a chance to get my dog in, she had fractured her leg and was crying a lot. I'm curious to how much the consultation costs there?Read Less

when it comes to my dogs, i am really a bit choosy when it comes to people who will take care of their needs specially when they're sick. i literally tried a lot of vets already and a lot of them are really not nice of not even friendly to pets at all. staff are rude but this one really stand out. great service!
