This clinic works with the county to help fix and immunize stray/feral cats and dogs. I brought a neighborhood stray to get fixed there. They were gentle with the animal, kept him overnight to make sure he's okay, gave him antibiotics and supplied me with a week's worth of antibiotics to make sure the cat healed properly. Neutering, all the shots and antibiotics - ALL FREE ($150 worth). The clinic generally charges less than any I've ever been to. Dr. Vasquez has been treating my baby Bon Bon for years, she has super sensitive skin and he has always been able to keep her skin sensitivities under control. Come early on the Saturday at 8am, get there by 7:30am, before they open because its their busiest day and it gets full very quick. The Doctor and staff are all very friendly, helpful, thorough and efficient. Everyone clearly cares deeply about animals. They do not 'nickel and dime' you for everything or charge you increased charges for appts, medicine, x rays or even surgery. We adopted 2 new baby kitties that needed immediate medical care and my regular vet wouldn't give me an appt for a full week. We went there expecting it to be a one time visit but ended up moving our other cat and dog to this vet because of how positive our experience was and continues to be. When one baby became very ill, he reassured our distressed daughter that he would care for the kitty like it was his own. After surgery, he did not charge me for the urgent care cat food or for post op visits, nor was there any hidden fees or extra charges. I would recommend the North Figueroa Animal Hospital to anyone. Just all around great Vet. I took my good boy to a Vet closer to my house once simply because they are just a few blocks away. They wanted to do $500 worth of biopsies and whatnot to figure out what the issue with his skin was. I past on that and took him to our normal Vet(Figueroa). It's a ways away from my house and there's usually a line but I'm glad I went because the Vet took just one look and knew exactly what it was. I took my grandma because her cat was vomiting. I understand that they were busy but they rushed us in and out of the exam room. The doctor didn't really listen to what we had to say about the cat. I have been bringing my dog, JJ, here for close to ten years. Dr. Nfah is friendly and breaks it down in simple terms so the customer can understand. Is he busy? HELL YES, but I don't want to sit in a room for 30 minutes talking. Is the staff busy? YES, but it makes all the world of difference if you look them in the eyes and just say "Thank You" - even if they just took our payment, then are providing a service. This Animal Hospital has treated JJ with respect and compassion since day ONE. They do not over charge, they are fast and quick, even if you cannot make an appointment. honestly i only go here because it's close to my house and my dog doesn't do well in long car rides after the vet....Front staff is clearly overworked and as a result very short with customers and rude. The doctor speeds through the appointment and overmedicates at times.  Do your homework before coming here or else they will over charge you. I absolutely love love LOVE NFAH. Started coming here after I adopted a lab/pit. Dr. Joey Vasquez was so kind and sweet to my frightened new family member. Wallice had a few issues after adoption, kennel cough, a few UTIs and she was a frequent flyer the first few months. Dr. Vasquez always greeted us with a HOW'S OUR GIRL DOING? Never a what's wrong with her, or what is the issue, always with a smile from him and his entire staff. Now I take my 13 year old beagle, my lab/pit, and my cat. On another note, and another reason why I love NFAH, is because there is no appointment needed. After a year long struggle to trap a female feral cat at Mount St Mary's College (she keeps having kittens) I finally caught her on Saturday and couldn't find a vet/rescue that would fix her without making me wait a week of charging me $300. I called NFAH and they were like YEAH, JUST BRING HER IN!! Look no further than North Fig Animal Hospital. Prices are great, staff is friendly and honest and they are always there to help you. 1st time here. $23 for the visit and 2 shots. Super kind and sweet staff. Dr. Vasquez was the best & so honest. It was the first time in 10 years I took my cat to a vet because he's an indoor cat. He said my cat looked very healthy and asked if I wanted to do any tests, like a blood test. He said "to be honest, I don't think we'll find anything. He looks great to me but I'll do the rest if you want. I just don't want you to spend $200 if you don't have to."He suggested my cat get a good wash to clean him from his recent flea attack but if I took him to a grooming place they'd need proof of the rabies shot so I got it. This is a decent location to make your animal to.  I came across this place a while back while looking for a vet to attend to my dogs' many needs, neutering, vaccines, etc.  It is located on the busy Figueroa street in Highland park and more than likely the small parking lot they have in the back will be filled to capacity.  A lot of people come to this location, so come early if you can otherwise it's about an hour wait.  They do not do appointments here, so everything is a walk in only.  Pricewise, this location charges $10 for rabie shots and most of the vaccines here are roughly around that price.  The only thing you have to be careful of is when this place tries to sell you additional vaccines and services that your pet does not really need.  I came here once with my German Shepherd needing only one shot, but they convinced me to get 3 other additional shots that my dog did not really need.  It was my fault, learning experience, just come here knowing exactly what your pet needs, and if they try to sell you something extra, think long and hard.  When I came today for a rabie shot for my dog, another customer went through the same issue and had their pet provided additional services that they did not need.  When it came time to pay for the bill, and this customer was informed of the extra charges, she walked  without paying.Another issue is that when it comes to paying for your bill, they go by order you were serviced and call you up.  My vaccine shot took 30 seconds but because they were getting the bills ready for the customers that were ahead of me, I had to wait an additional 20 minutes even though I was ready with my debit card out. PLEASE AVOID AT *ALL* COSTS. This vet killed my three year old cat. It hurts me to write this review and it's taken me a while to admit that it's real. My cat grew a mass on her head. I took her to be seen by the vet here. They wanted over $500 to remove it--and didn't offer a monthly payment plan, and they claim to be a "low-income" vet. The vet didn't do any x-rays and just said the lump needed to be removed. So she got her surgery done there. When I went to pick her up the following day, I was not advised to talk to the doctor, or anyone for that matter. I signed in my name, someone gave me my cat, I was given medication (antibiotics, with no instructions whatsoever), paid, and left. No one advised me about anything--things to watch out for, how to medicate her, what to feed her, what I should do if she stopped eating. There was no post-surgery instructions. Three days after the surgery, she stopped eating and drinking water. I called the vet and asked the receptionist what I should do and they said "I don't know. I think that's normal." And a week after the surgery, she stopped being able to move. I took her to three different vets and couldn't do anything at that point. I spent about $2000 in total trying to bring her back to normal, but nothing worked, and I had to put her down.Aside from this tragedy that's ruined my life, there are way more problems with this place that should get it shut down. The North Figueroa Animal Hospital is like the fast food of animal hospitals. You go In N' Out within minutes but the quality is absolute trash and the doctor spends about three minutes examining each animal. The place is so crowded at every given moment, like most reviews say, but there is only one vet (their website says "our experienced veterinarians..." and "we know you want veterinary care that provides your beloved companion with the best treatment possible and you want a veterinarian who discusses your pet's condition with you so that you can make wise and informed choices." Fast service doesn't mean good service. That's the only reason this place doesn't have one star.  Not to mention, the staff of people (except one, who wears glasses) are the rudest (and least educated) I've ever encountered. They blow off serious questions you have about your pet and act like you're a wasting their time. Also, if you work at a veterinary office, you should probably know a few things about animals and how to take care of them, and also how to talk to other humans about important things.I've been a regular customer hear for several years now, since it was all i could afford, but after what happened to my cat, I'll never go back again and will make sure no one I know does either. I would give them a 4.5 (rounded-up). This is a really straightforward veterinary clinic which I take my dog to semi-regularly, whenever she is sick. It is usually quite busy and there can be a bit of a wait, but I trust the veterinarian there and I am happy with the price and the quality of care. I can't vouch for anyone who has a pet with major medical complications or chronic illnesses, but if I needed to I would take my dog in to see how everything works out. Read Less

I've gone to this place since I got my first dog in 2008. The prices are very reasonable and many times don't charge per preventive visit. It gets crowded but the line moves fast enough, vet and staff are nice, caring and explain things clear enough to understand, fast service but make you feel respected. Work with rescues too. Wow.That was incredible. I've heard of other hospitals that fleece owners for treating their pets. But my experience here was the opposite. Took my dog for a visit to treat some stomach problems. It was discovered he had a temperature, swelling in his throat & lymph nodes and an infection. The exam fee was already very reasonable, and they gave me a discount on the blood work and the antibiotic injection, since we'd adopted him last spring from a local shelter. I love this place.   North Figueroa Animal Hospital makes vet care affordable.  I'm a foster mom for a local rescue and they use North Fig for most of their general veterinary care.  When it comes to more complex care she will generally opt for a specialist, but N. Fig is great for most things.  The place is always busy because for vet care their prices are incredibly reasonable.  Don't let the huge crowd of people in the waiting room intimidate you, they've got a great system and you'll probably be in an out of there before you know it.  At my old vet they'd charge you $65 for the vet to come in and tell you that before they could do anything it'd cost you $500 for Xrays and blood tests, and I'm not kidding they'd do that no matter WHAT you came in for.  At N. Fig they don't try to upsell you, or force you to buy tests you don't need.  They give good, solid care at really reasonable prices.  Sometimes animals really do need tests or lots of care and that can be expensive, but I guarantee N. Fig will not gouge you, and whatever they charge it will be less expensive than their competitors. I also love that they are really good to local rescues and help make caring for sick animals that come into rescue just a bit easier and less expensive.  This hospital really gives back to the community, both in terms of the great prices they charge all of us, and what they do for rescue organizations.  It's truly vet care with a heart. I just moved here from Texas and was looking for an affordable vet for my cat who is UTI prone, and a friend recommended this clinic to me. At first I was skeptical because of how busy it was on my first visit (it's walk-in only), but the veterinarian was quick but thorough and very compassionate towards my cat. I thought I was just going in for a checkup, but Dr. Joey found yet another UTI and prescribed an antibiotic injection AND oral medication at no extra charge. I can tell that this vet is really about taking care of their fuzzy clients, and would absolutely recommend this clinic to anyone who is also looking for an affordable veterinarian that will take good care of their companion. If you're pressed for time, you may want to look into Highland Park Animal Hospital on York (next to Super A), to make an appointment. If you're looking for simple vaccines, Highland Park Animal Hospital (York) on Tuesdays and Thursday's offer $12 shots. For surgeries, check ups, and illnesses both hospitals take great care in your animals. However, North Fig Animal Hospital is on the cheaper side for pricing. Really like this place. It can be a little confusing when you first get there & a lot of people are at the counter. You don't no if your suppose to get in line, check-in, or sign-in or what. Btw- you sign in, the clip board should be on the counter & then have a set. But their prices are worth it. The staff is friendly & even though it was packed when I get there I was seen rather quickly & the doctor took the time to explain his findings & answer any questions I may have had. I use to go to Ambassador Animal Hospital, but don't care for the doctors (the two that I've seen) bedside manner. we have three dogs and we have been coming here for about six years now,we have gone to two other vets to try their service and I agree with the other reviews this place is much more affordable . the main reason we come here is that they get to the point . come early so that you do not have to wait more than an hour . I was looking for a new vet and my friend told me about his vet which he's been taking them for over 25 years because not only the doctors are very good, but their very accurate and very very reasonable. After spending few thousand of dollars on a simple UTI problem on my one cat, I was totally broke but my other cat got cancer and he really needed an immediate treatment. So I drove all the way from South Bay (a 40 mile round trip) to see them. My friend highly recommended the Senior doctor, but a younger doctor examined my cat (they're father and son). Although it was a quick in and out, he listened to what I had to say and immediately took my cat to do a blo*d test. I took both of my cats and both received total of four medications. With a test, the bill came out incredibly low. He called me the next day with a result and asked me to come back the following week. I couldn't go that day so I went a few days later and this time the senior Dr. examined my cats. I learned he was all by himself that day and it was really busy. Honestly, I tried to take my friend's words and believe he's good as his son, but I felt the exam was a bit too rushed and I'm sorry to say but I had a hard time understanding him. Two days after that, my cat's cancer symptom got worse so I called and asked if the younger doctor could see my cat. They told me because he had to go in to a surgery he'd be done by 11:30, but with my situation and location, he would see me as long as I could come by 12. When I got there, the girl said she has already put the file out for my cat and although there were many people waiting again, they took us in immediately. The news was not a good one and I became very emotional. Dr. Vasquez was very understanding and patient with me. He did give him more meds, IV and a shot but he only charged me for a bottle of pill. I want to make it clear that I give this place a NEGATIVE ZERO star rating, but this site wont allow such a thing. I picked up a cat at the LA shelter. Thought it would be a great experience but this clinic has left me so frustrated.!! From what I understand, the shelter does all their veterinarian business with this pathetic clinic. First off, the communication between the shelter and this clinic is abominable. Everyone at the shelter gave me one direction in regards to my cat and how the procedure of picking up a sheltered cat works; while everyone at the animal clinic gave me completly different directions about how the shelter/clinic operations work and the clinic has made me jump through MULTIPLE HOOPS just to pick up a stray cat who I have fell in love with. I live across town, I cannot easily get to this clinic, and I work. I have made three visits in two days, 20 miles one way, 40 miles each visit, and I still do not have my cat that the shelter initially told me that I would have after 20 minutes of paperwork. I understand that they have surgery hours and pick up hours are at certain times, but I have been there twice at the specified pick up times, calling each time to see if this is ok, taking time off of work, and each time the clinic made me jump through yet another HOOP. Today I go across town yet AGAIN...!!!! I'm ticked and Citysearch is the only place to vent because the clinic just DOESN'T CARE. And if I have to talk to that lying fake-voiced white chick on the phone again I just might sock her in the throat, saving you all from her ""I AM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU"" condensending behavior, and all you other receptionists know exactly who I am talking about!!! Wow, this place is so busy. It must be that good to be that crowded. I've never been to any other vet with such client loyalty. I came in to have my cat spayed and have her shots given. Eveything went smoothly and quickly with the staff here. The young vet that I met with answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable leaving my baby here. Drove all the way from Torrance to come to this beautiful animal hospital. To my understanding, the facility had a fire and now they completely renovated the place. It was well worth the drive. The receptionists and techs are very friendly and Dr. Vasquez is the BEST!!! My dog was having trouble urinating and I went to ANOTHER vet first who diagnosed it with a bladder infection....WRONG!! Dr. Vasquez took an X-ray and I even saw the huge bladder stones on the X-ray. Without me needing to take a bank loan to pay the bill, he did a major bladder surgery . Two weeks later, my dog is using the restroom fine. I am thankful for such a place that cares more about the well being of the pet than trying to get as much money as possible. Dr. Vasquez is quick.... 1.because he.... is GOOD. 2. because he.... won't put on a performance making you think that your pet COULD HAVE a more serious problem, so he can perform unnecessary tests that cost you an arm and a leg. Dr. Vasquez has been in business a long time and has seen a lot of sick animals...he business is booming because he knows when it is necessary to perform tests and when it is unnecessary to perform tests. If you need a vet that talks a lot and takes 15 - 30 minutes with you then you probably have a vet that is unsure of what to do and wants you to spend money on tests etc.. before he will tell you anything. You should beware of these vets. The reason they can spend that time with you is because they do not have many clients and you are paying the price. I had another vet in North Hollywood that is closer to home but I go the extra 20 miles not because Dr. Vasquez is cheaper but because he is pratical. My kitten had a serious digestive problem and it cost me nearly 500.00 before the North Hollywood vet told me to try a prescription food to see IF that might help. MIGHT HELP!!! After 500.00 that vet still did not know what was wrong or what might solve the problem. I can't say for sure but I believe that Dr. Vasquez would have suggested the food first before robbing me of 500.00. Sometimes paying more only means your paying for a good con job. We recently moved out of Highland Park to the Westside near Palms. Our experience there with the local veterinarians was horrible! WAY too expensive and over diagnosed, unnecessary treatments, etc. Now I GLADLY make the 20 mile + drive back to Highland Park and Dr. V whenever any of our animals has a problem. I went there after I had heard how good his prices are and how great he was from a friend. I brought 2 of my dogs there. And after I was actually in the room with the doctor, I was out in less than 5 mintues. I felt very rushed. He ran his hands over my new puppy and said, ""She's healthy"", and then charged me $15 for it. For a normal check up, I think he's good but I wouldn't go to him if my dog had serious problems. I don't know that I would say that Dr. Vasquez and his son are the best vets around--they are certainly polite and remember my dog's name each time I come in. However, they work very quickly--perhaps a bit too quickly. So far, we haven't had any problems, but I'm not sure they take enough time to accurately assess each problem.
