The first time I called Park La Brea Veterinary Care was in early September. I was told to fill out an emailed information forms online and email back, after which they would contact me. I never received a call back and never heard back. This contact, phone and email, was with a Maddie. The second time I called was on Monday, where I was told there was an appointment available on Wednesday 10/27 at 12 (I even expressed my incredulity to double-check: "You mean THIS Wednesday?"). I called for the third time when arriving today, Wednesday 10/27 at 12, and was told there was no appointment. I explained the situation to the woman on the phone, who instead of offering me availability due to their error attempted to send me on my way. When I expressed sympathy for the issue of internal business computers being incorrect, she insinuated that I was crazy or a liar ("I don't know who you called" or "I don't know where you got that information from" when I have the records of contacting Park La Brea Veterinary Care). I never get mad at lower-level workers due to company fault, but I did here because the response was so far below acceptable. When she asked if I'd like to speak to a manger I said "Yes!," so she could afterwards say that the managers wouldn't even be available until later. I hung up and left despite Park La Brea Veterinary Care breaking their multiple promises. This whole experience has been profoundly shocking and I cannot recommend avoiding this vet more. Read Less

A horrifying experience. We brought our dog in to be euthanized. We were told we needed to pay $63 for the vet to 'see if the dog was sick enough and that the vet could lose his license if he euthanized our 16 yr old dog if HE felt the dog could benefit from medicine or other modalities to keep her alive'. Then we were told by the obviously uneducated receptionist it would cost an additional $275 to euthanize her if we didnt want her remains. And to make matters worse in the most difficult of times we were told we must pay ALL of that money in advance before we could even consult with the vet. I am fairly certain that after having my pet for 16 years i know if my animal is suffering and i if she were not suffering we would not have made that trip to the vet. This office is motivated by money not your pet. The receptionist LIED when she stated the vet would lose his license and this was confirmed by 5 other veterinary offices. This office and its staff needs a lesson in compassion. Read Less

Dr. Rattan is excellent vet that takes care of our animals as if they were his own. His level of detail and exploration into issues is truly first class. He was such a gift when our senior boy Wiley (cat) was nearing the end of his road. I trusted him implicitly with all the decisions he led us to, some of which were very complicated to understand. Wiley spend a few days in his care and the vet techs spoiled him with love. With our new rescue cats he has helped us navigate several unforeseen issues and he never ever pushes undue services upon us. The office manager Lisa is incredibly pleasant. There is one front desk attendant that is rude and clearly dispassionate about animals but she rarely handles our kitties when they visit and I wouldn't let her affect the review of an overall amazing practice. When I noticed something wrong with my kitty, I called and was assisted by a very polite young lady who was able to get me an appointment for the same day.  Everyone on the staff was extremely friendly and very calm and caring with my baby.  Dr. Rattan was thorough in his examination, explained everything to me in a clear and informative manner, and wasn't the least bit condescending or dismissive about my concerns (something I had previously experienced with a different vet there but chalked up to personality).  I can rest easy knowing that my babies are in good hands here. If you look at my profile, you'll see that I write some very good, some mediocre as well as bad reviews. This is a bad one. If you read the other negative reviews, you'll see that they confirm what you'll read below plus far worse issues.I took my dog here from the day I got him almost 4 years ago. The ever-rotating staff of vets have all been generally pretty nice people and seem capable. It would be nice to see the same vet more than once so that he/she might get to know my dog a little, other than just from his chart. It would also be nice if I was able to develop rapport with my dog's vet however its been impossible since there is always a different vet. Why can't they hang on to good help?My concerns arise from the front desk staff and manager (Lisa) who I found to be incapable of understanding the most basic of communications. I believe these staff members are as integral to my dogs health as the vets. If they make a mistake, it may cost my dog's health. With this in mind, and in light of recent experiences with the desk staff and manager, I can no longer take my dog here and I feel unsafe trusting his care to them.To quote a former employee's review of their experience working for this company, "Everything that happens to you here is a con. Long, long hours, really bad pay, awful management." (from GlassDoor)Perhaps this problem permeates every aspect of their business? Read Less

We had been taking our cats to what many consider the best vet in town for years, and paying accordingly. With the adoption of a puppy, we wanted a veterinarian who would take the time to talk to us. At the recommendation of neighbors, we brought all our pets to see Dr. Rattan. We hadn't known what we had been missing. Dr. Rattan takes time to explain everything we need to know, and even some of the science behind the treatment. He is gentle with animals and orders tests as needed. Then there's the staff. We had gone to our previous vet for years, but the front office staff was cool in the extreme. Park La Brea's staff is very welcoming, personable, and caring. The vet techs are terrifc. Finally, the charges are far less than we paid elsewhere. We're very happy we made the change. Read Less

3 weeks ago 3 days after rescuing a cockapoo named Jeffry, my husband took our new family member here to see Dr Rattan while I was at work. This was only Jeffry's 3rd day with us - he was aggressive after having been poked and prodded at a groomers the day prior. Needless to say, he (as anyone would be) was on edge. He snapped at Dr Rattan and instead of giving my husband tips to help calm his fears, the doctor advised my husband that we toss Jeffry back to the DTLA pound before we get too attached. I was beyond furious at his lack of empathy for this dog. How irresponsible it was to put such fear into brand new owners. And now 3 weeks later I've kept a running list of the amazing things we've discovered about our dog: he does not have separation anxiety and leaves our stuff well alone, he loves the car and travels really well (he's already been on 2 road trips), he doesn't bark unless provoked, he is AMAZING with other tough rescue dogs and gets them playing, he sleeps through the night and doesn't bother us to go to the bathroom, his inside accidents haven't happened in 2 weeks, he's great in a crate if he needs a time out, he's got so much personality, he is so fun to take to new places as he is such an explorer, his leash walks have improved immensely (and we haven't even gone to doggy training yet)... most importantly, he absolutely loves us!!! And that's that. Definitely not coming back here to a doctor that has no patience or empathy. Very glad we didn't give him back. Useless advice.Shoutout to the two ladies in the front who were full of love and hope for the lil guy! You'll be glad to know we listened to YOU instead of the doc and you were right!!! Thank you! Front desk is plain awful.  I wanted to follow Dr. Rattan over to Park La Brea, but this must be the busiest vet in town!  Busier than anything you could ever possibly imagine! Swamped AT ALL TIMES. I waited on hold for upwards of seven minutes twice to make an appointment and ask some questions about spaying.  The third and final time I called, I waited on hold for 14 minutes.  Instead of hanging up, I researched a new vet while on hold, then just asked them to send our records over when they finally picked up the phone.  I had plenty of time to do some deep breathing while on hold and reminded myself to be calm and not bite her head off, and so was able to keep my cool.  But she was barely even apologetic.  I wanted to say, "You know, it's just not okay to keep someone on hold that long in total silence," but I knew it wouldn't make any difference, so I didn't.  She really rushed through our call, so much so I wasn't sure she got all the info.  When I gently pressed, and mentioned my fourteen minute hold time, she snapped, "We are VERY BUSY!"  My first reaction is to be annoyed with the receptionist, but on second thought, maybe the doctors are just too cheap to hire more help for her and she's doing the best she can.  Sucks for you the patient either way. I worked for another veterinary group in LA, and it was so busy with people waiting two hours just to check out and pay and that was with four receptionists. I decided to check this place out on a whim--I lived near it and my senior cat was developing an URI. I'm so glad I did! It is so calm in there, and so far, when I have an appointment at whatever time, my pets and I are in the room and the doctor is there at that time. The only time I've spent waiting for a bit in the lobby is when I opted to wait for test results (and they offered to call, it just seemed silly when I live so close by). The staff is so kind and gentle, knowledgable and smart. We've seen Dr. Einman and I really like her: she's honest about what treatments/medication you should definitely do, and what ones aren't necessary but might be beneficial. I've worked in vet offices in Ventura County, LA, and NYC, and based on what I billed over the years, I think their prices are really reasonable--especially for a city veterinary clinic. They don't oversell you on anything and they really make sure you're comfortable with whatever test, medication, or treatment they recommend before they do it. Highly recommend this practice. They remind me of my favorite vet in my boyfriend's tiny, tiny Midwest hometown but better--Park La Brea gives you small town attention with big city resources.Read Less

After my long-time vet moved away from L.A. I was desperate to find a new one as kind, compassionate and intelligent as she was. Two friends recommended Park La Brea Vets to me, and I went there today with my elderly cat who's been having kidney problems. From the moment I was greeted at the front desk by Francisco I felt right at home - and that my cat was in excellent hands. Dr. Rattan gave him a thorough exam, asking me all the right questions about symptoms and health history, and treated my cat with loving care. He suggested different treatments and made recommendations re: tests and diagnostics that were spot-on and smart. I just adored him. When I arrived, I asked Francisco for some paper towels so I could clean the cat carrier (my cat had peed in it on the drive there) and instead he took the carrier with my cat in it and cleaned the carrier AND my cat in the back room before returning both to me with a smile! What an amazing first impression . . . I am so grateful to have found Park La Brea Vets and Dr. Rattan, and feel good knowing that once again I have veterinarian care I can count on and trust. I was so unhappy with my vet, I started searching out another. My neighbor highly recommended Dr. Rattan, who apparently immediately diagnosed my neighbor's dog with a kidney disorder that had gone undetected by previous vets for years. Although parking can be difficult -- the vet's office is on a busy stretch of Fairfax, and the back lot doesn't have a rear entrance for customers -- I immediately found the staff and Dr. Rattan warm, caring and extremely knowledgeable (without being condescending like my last vet). I have an 80-lb. Akita/German Shephard mix (my Baby girl!) who is skittish entering any new places. Dr. Rattan's assistant squatted down to pet and play with my dog, making her more comfortable in the doctor's office. Dr. Rattan was so nice, and he took the time to go explain all of the vaccinations my dog had. Since I had yet to get her spayed (I didn't trust my old vet, who recommended I take her to a doggie birth-control clinic -- As If!), he not only reviewed the whole procedure with me, but the potential risks. He provided me with a written estimate and didn't pressure me into anything. I was so confident with Dr. Rattan and his staff, I called back the following week and immediately scheduled my dog's operation. They took such good care of her, and they patiently answered every question I had. On top of that, all treatments were very reasonably priced. I've already recommended Dr. Rattan to 3 people, and they all were highly impressed with him and his staff. Read Less

Dr. Rattan is FANTASTIC!! I read a number of extraordinary reviews about him on Yahoo. As a result, I decided to take my dog to see him. My dog had a loose infected tooth with black all around it that did not seem to clear up on the antibiotics my prior vet had given me. That vet said the tooth did not need to be pulled. But, to me, it didn't make sense to leave an infected loose tooth that seemed to have a space where food could accumulate. And my dog was in pain. Dr. Rattan took one look at the tooth and said it was dead. It should be pulled so the other teeth would not be jeopardized. There was no hard sell though & as far as cost, he is more than reasonable. I was very nervous about the surgery (anesthesia), but Dr. Rattan & his staff (esp. Richard, who is also great) were extremely patient with me. They explained everything, answered all my questions, and handled my dog in a way that communicated genuine care for animals. I wish I had found him years ago. P.S. The surgery, and the aftercare, was a 5-star veterinary experience! Read Less

I am very happy with the care my dog received here. After she was bit by another dog I brought her in and they saw her quickly. They said that she would need stitches and would need to be put under anesthesia. I asked them to also clean her teeth while she was under and they were able to do so since their next appointment wasn't for another hour and a half. I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg but I was given a very fair price for all the work that they did including teeth extractions and medication and suture removal. They seem like a very honest establishment and definitely where I will bring my dog again. Just FYI- they don't take Amex Read Less

After calling 7 other vet clinics, I got to speak with the most patient, informative, and loving receptionist (I believe her name is Lisa?). Anyway, she was able to answer my questions, schedule me an appointment that made sense for my little puppy; coupling her needed shots, exam, and other exams into one visit to save me money.

Read Less
