Value Vet Westwood is, hands down, the best vet establishment I have ever visited in LA. Dr Davidson has been our vet for about 3 years now. He is kind, compassionate, funny, honest and will never over prescribe tests or medication. He takes a conservative approach and understands that vet bills add up. He would never order a test he didn't think was absolutely necessary. But the quality of care my dog gets is A+++. Just this past weekend I got to meet his associate Dr Hall as Dr D was away on vacation and my dog hurt his back. Dr. Hall is amazing as well. When I questioned whether my dog should have a baseline x ray she told me it was not necessary because she could tell what was going on from palpating his body. When I asked if a steroid shot, in addition to meds, would help she told me just to administer meds as soon as we got home and keep him resting. My dog was up and walking close to completely normally in 12 hours!!! I'm amazed by Value Vet. The staff is also wonderful and obviously loves animals. It isn't a fancy place. You will need to show up early and possibly return after lunch for your appointment. The one exam room is the size of walk in closet. And I love all of it because the quality of care is what matters. There are tons of fancy vet offices with cushy waiting rooms but you are paying for all that when they tack on lots of tests and high priced products you don't really need. Take it from someone who has been a volunteer in animal rescue for 20+ years Value Vet is a rare authentic find. Pro Tip, do call if you aren't showing up first thing in the morning to line up. If the doctor has operations in the afternoon they may not be taking patients and if the morning was busy there may be no afternoon appointments left. Best to be there first thing in the morning if the issue is urgent. Read Less

The doctor is excellent but some of the staff do not communicate well. The Office is open during the hours listed, but the vet doesn’t come in until 10ish and leaves around 3:30. Do not go here in an emergency. The staff told me to come in to get meds. I said I would arrive the next day. I went, no idea what I was talking about for my cat. They happened to have thyroid and wet food for her, but the insulin needed to be ordered. They told me it would be there the next day. Wel...l it wasn’t...again. I am going home now, and my cat could be dead from diabetic shock. I am at a loss. It just makes me sad that you get lost in the system...and that they do not accurately set your expectations. I would have been okay with the wait if I could her just a little insulin. No luck. I hope my cat is alive but I won’t know. Again do not go here unless you have lots of free time on your hands and things are not an emergency. See More Read Less

Let me start by saying I don't spend a lot of time writing reviews but this is worth every second for anyone else who's having anxiety over dollars spent to save there animal they love. I have an older girl PWD named Allie. She has some challenges and I thought by going to VCA hospital and clinic I was going to get top notch care. That is NOT true. I am an ICU nurse of 22 years so I know the system of health care. I was so frustrated that I had spent  almost 1000.00 and all I had received for Allies treatment so far was antibiotics. Everything was drawn out to make money for their profiting machine. In my frustration and anxiety to get help quickly I went to Value Vet and met Dr. Davidson . I was only there to have a wound cultured , but he convinced me that I was wasting my money and to start right away with a new plan. He was to the point, caring, and had a plan that was implemented the next day to get her healing. He fixed her up for 350.00 including placing a drain under local and included medications to go home. The irony is that the culture if drawn at VCA would have cost me 400.00, and I still would have not helped her yet. Wonderful old school no nonsense  Vet . Loved him! The part about value Vet helping more animals for less profit is so respectable and Ethically superior to what I experienced at VCA hospital and for that matter any other clinic in West LA. I will be a continuing client with both of my dogs!  My girl is now on her way up again. Compassionate care. Not many people aren't led around by the nose by the smell of money. This review is long overdue so let me say now, I've been coming to Dr. Davidson for over 10 years.. I sometimes would go to a closer vet when I didn''t think the stress of the ride would be good for them, or didn't think the time to get there could be sparred.  I alwayd end up back at Dr. Davidson's office! I think what makes this vet so super special is because he is more concerned with treating the pets problem than he is at seeing how much money he can make off of you.  Going to the vet is already expensive due to medicines and costs of labs and other controlled procedures. Dr. Davidson always keeps costs down and will try something less expensive to start off with if you dont have the finances to do everything all at once.  He is always willing to explain in great detail what is going on and what you should do, whereas other vets wont explain hardly anything more than directions for medicines.  I also like that this place is first come, first serve for appointments.  You can always assure yourself to be early to be the first appointment of the day, or use this system like an emergency visit.  You gotta love a vet that has lost part of a finger to a cat and laughs when telling you the story about it.  Dr. Davidson is truly a pet's angel sent directly from heaven. I have been coming here for years, and can I just say, that I hope to come for many many more!1)  The service is amazing.  Denise, who works at the front, is by far one of the nicest, most caring, attentive persons have I encountered in any business.  She is always trying to help me and my dog and is one of the main reasons I keep coming back.  It's not just me, every time I come, I always see her going above and beyond for anyone that is there.  They are VERY lucky to have her.2) Dr. Davidson is awesome.  He has literally brought my dog back from what seems like an impossible diagnosis, to an energetically hopeful pooch.  I like to say that my Buddha has more lives than a cat, and in part, it's because of Dr. Davidson.3)  Cost effective!  Compared to other places I have researched and looked into, Value Vet is more bang for the buck along with some of the most pleasant staff around.Again,  I've been coming for several years and will continue to, for years to come!Thank you, Denise and Dr. D! Dr. Davidson and his vet assistant are as good and straight to the point as it gets! I never feel like I'm getting scammed here like many of the other vet offices here in Los Angeles. I brought my dog in and he checked him out thoroughly. He was able to identify what was wrong and had us run one test (instead of scaring us into suggesting 5) and was right on with his diagnosis! They never recommend any treatment that would not benefit your pet and is always looking out for your best interest. On top of that, the prices and the rest of the staff are fair and reasonable. Highly recommend to any pet owner on the west side. You might not have the most luxurious waiting room, but at least you won't have to compromise your wallet or your care. Read Less

Been here twice, once with my sister for her cat, and once today with my own cat. Great place to go if you need a service done quickly. It's a very small space and it's a walk-in clinic; so first come, first serve. My cat got blood drawn and some x-rays taken. With the consolation fee, x-rays, blood tests, meds and food supplies, it came to around $360.The pet doctor was friendly and informative. HOWEVER... I took one star off because of the vet tech that worked along side the pet doctor. She was not pleasant at all; she was really rough with my cat and didn't seem to care. Perhaps she was either having a bad day or just didn't give a flying f*ck about her job? Whatever the case, I hope I don't have to see her again when/if I decide to take my kitty back. Read Less

I liked that the receptionist didn't make it a big deal and was very nice about it, most places won't let you sign in unless you are there with the pet. Dr. Davidson was very nice and took his time answering any questions I had. We will be returning this week for further blood work, something else that is very affordable. This will definitely be our go-to place from now on! EXCELLENT teeth cleaning that won't cost you an arm and a leg! My 10 year old Yorkie had some serious dead squid breath.  I took her in for an initial evaluation with her regular vet and had been quoted upwards of $750. I decided to take her back to Value Vet, where we used to take her when we lived in the area, for a second opinion in the hopes that there wouldn't need to be as many extractions and that it wouldn't kill Christmas for us to pay for her to have healthy teeth again. Value Vet really lives up to its name, the cost was (about) 25% cheaper! They are also kinder and gentler at Value Vet... and even after a few extractions, my little girl came back happier than I've seen her in months! Her teeth look like puppy teeth, and I can guarantee that I will no longer be going to our local vet, but will make the drive to Westwood so she can continue to be treated so sweetly! Read Less

Not only were we satisfied with the affordability of the place, but it was totally worth the hour wait (0_0) really though, for the treatment. Dr. Davidson knew exactly what my puppy had when we walked in.... allergy to pollens! apparently LA is a bad climate for pitbulls! I knew pits had skin problems, but we were surprised Luna's skin was so bad, compared to our previous pitbull. We finally had an answer, and got meds for less than $200. You can pay much more and won't get a Vet half as good as Dr. Davidson. Of course you'll have to forego free coffee and ice water, a lovely waiting room, an appointment, an overbearing table-side manner, being sold expensively high margin "made especially for Vets" products, or much ambiance. So if you don't mind waiting outside, first come-first serve, or not seeing bright-eyed and bushy tailed assistants in pastel colored designer-inspired office uniforms, you will get extraordinary professional veterinary care from a superb and knowledgeable Vet -- just like the Vets you see on British TV. The fees are about half or less than what you'll pay at other vets, so you'll have to deal with the stigma of low cost. Most important (and you may not fully realize how very important this is to your pet's well-being and your wallet) Value Vet will accurately diagnose your pet and not mislead you into unnecessary procedures to inflate fees that can actually jeopardize your precious animal companions well-being. I live in the San Fernando Valley but only trust Drs Davidson and Hall (and their awesome staff) at Value Vet in Westwood to take care of my Shih Tzu Madison. Madison actually gets excited when I say we are going to the vet (probably because if he walks in not feeling well he always walks out feeling better). That should say it all but in case you need further convincing: I got Madison when he was 10 weeks old, and he was malnourished and had parasites. Two vets before this one ran $1000 worth of tests, unsure of what was going on, had me convinced he was going to die. I saw Dr. Davidson at what I hoped was an affordable last resort, and he correctly diagnosed the problem immediately and cost-effectively. Within days Madison was healthy, and equally importantly, he made me feel better. He was patient and caring and listened to my concerns. Nine years later and we have only used a different vet once, due to my freaking out over 405 traffic and wanting to get him looked at sooner. It was a decision I regretted immediately and went to see Dr. Hall the following day not for a second opinion but for the only real opinion I trusted. Dr. Hall took detailed notes and listened carefully, walking me through what she was doing and why with every step of the exam. I love that you can walk in and get vaccines taken care of quickly and separately from check-ups. I love that they don't try to rip you off with extra things. I love that you are with your pet the whole time and can observe what is being done and how. This is a vet clinic that cares about animals AND humans.Read Less

If you're looking for a very caring vet that provides service for very reasonable prices then this is the place for you to go. However, if you're looking for an upscale vet boutique, this is not it. Dr. Davidson is super nice and provides quality service. The facilities are small, but so his overhead and thus he doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for everything. I first took my dog there for what I thought was an abscess and her yearly exam. Turned out to just be an ingrown hair. Not only did he not charge me for removing the ingrown hair, he showed me how to do it in case it came back so that I could save a vet visit. She was also in need of her shots, but I didn't think I would have enough money to pay for everything. Turned out, I had enough to get her shots, the exam and the medication for her cheek (where the ingrown hair was pulled out). My other vet would've charged me at least 3 times as much money. The only drawback, is that they don't take appointments and they are almost always very busy. I'm not sure how they are for specialist kind of visits, but for routine care they've been great. When you meet Dr. Davidson, you can't help but smile and feel at ease. I went in there to have my dogs urinary bladder checked out. She wound up having same day surgery to remove a bladder stone the size of an egg! I was very nervous about the surgery. Dr. Davidson, along with his staff, assured me that everything would be okay. It has been five days since my dog's surgery and she is doing better than she was before she went in! I can't put into words how grateful I am to Dr Davidson and staff for the proper care they gave to my pug! This is a place where you will feel at ease and know that your pet is getting the best possible treatment. Oh, and I forgot to mention that this place is VERY affordable! They are not like other vets who try to charge outlandish prices.Read Less

as a first time pet owner, every little thing that has gone on with my dog has set me on edge. i am also a poor student, so the concern for my baby and the concern for maxing my credit card kept me in a constant nervous state. at value vet, the docs are amazing, the staff is honest and genuine, and i can take care of my pup without being concerned about the cost. on my first visit, the doctor could have charged me a ton for expensive bloodwork and xrays, but instead offered a suggestion of what he thought was wrong with my pup, talked with me to make sure i was comfortable with his advice, and ended up helping my pup calm her sick stomach and saved me about three hundred dollars! my mom works in a vets office on the east coast, and has been amazed by value vets affordable and amazing service! i tried laurel pet hospital before value vet, and paid triple for horrible service and treatment. even my pup can tell the difference between docs! I was there on the same day. I have no idea who that Rep was, but the Vet that day was great. Luckily the Rep left me alone, but he did act as if he ran the place. Value Vet Westwood is actually more down-to-earth than that. Dr. Leslie Davidson is there during the week, taking weekends off. From my 2+ years experience, Value Vet would never try to sell anything unnecessary. They go out of there way to do just the opposite - financially speaking. I would recommend going to Value Vet when Dr. Davidson is there - it will be a completely different experience. A great one! The weekends are definitely less comforting, but the Vet techs are still there and are great at guiding the covering Vet regarding the history of your pet. The covering Vets have always been great and this was just a weird day! Just wanted to let you know, Lena Read Less

We went to Value Vet on Westwood for our rabies vaccine. Everyone was nice, however the first person we encountered tried very hard to sell us expensive flea/tick pills. It was weird. And it was our first time there, so we weren't sure if this guy was the vet or not. This same guy weighed our dog and then we asked if he'd clip his nails. Which he did, but too low on some because we heard our puppy yelp and there was some bleeding. The guy then proceeded to check us out, including our flea/tick pills (we were going to go ahead and buy...what did we know at the time? we're new puppy owners). But the girl behind the counter said, ""they need to see the vet before we ring them up."" This whole time we thought this guy (who must have been a sales rep or something) was the vet!! The genuine vet came out, was wonderful with our dog and took time with us. Lastly she looked down and saw our flea/tick pills and said ""you don't need these."" So she in the end saved us about $80 on top of it. I would recommend Value vet for basics like shots, but nothing more. And just keep an eye on who's handling your pet. To us it was worth the savings even though the experience was a little weird ($20 at V.Vet vs $175 anywhere else). We just know now to stay vigilant. Read Less

I found Dr. Davidson in Westwood through a good friend who reps many dog lines-- she knows the story behind the story of all the groomers, pet stores and vets because she sells to them everyday and hears the good, bad and ugly. I have to say she was right; if you are looking for an excellent general care vet who is compassionate at very reasonable prices then Dr. Davidson is your guy! He will spend the time with you, he cares about what he does, is conservative in his treatment, does not try to up charge your bill, etc. I have found the staff to be nice and loving towards animals. The office is definitely a no frills facility but the savings are passed on to you. The down side is the whole office is about the size of a walk in closet (no kidding), no appointments are taken and you'll need to wait outside in the parking lot because there is no room for a waiting room. However, I have never waited longer than 15 minutes to be seen (I tend to go between 10am-2pm). Frankly, when you weigh out the excellent care you are getting and the very reasonable prices for services and medications against the size of the facility it's a no brainer, unless you feel you need to pay more to have a posh place to sit. I've been a customer of Dr. Davidson at Value Vet on Westwood since my dogs were puppies, about 5 1/2 years. He saved my dog's life when two other vets insisted nothing else could be done. He's kind, attentive, thorough and truly gifted. He and his staff has ALWAYS provided exemplary service. The reviews posted on 1March08 are shocking to read given my experience. For anyone looking over these reviews, please read more than just the two posted on March 1st because they are not an indication of the kind of office Dr. Davidson operates. We don't take our dogs to anyone but Davidson; it's a waste of time and money otherwise. Lastly, I wonder about the dog food you wanted: if it was the prescription food then there might be a good reason you couldn't get it. The prescription food is only to be used for specific reasons. The packaging itself even describes this. If the office is concerned enough to be sure your dog gets what they should based on a proper exam, this is something one might be grateful for. The food is very expensive. If this was a crackpot office they might have sold you the dog food just for the sale. Dr. Davidson and his staff are extraordinary and do not deserve to be spoken of to such a negative extent without giving the doctor a chance to remedy your particular situation. Read Less

I want to make one point clear: my comments are directed to Value Vet on Westwood Blvd, not to be confused with the Value Vet on Sawtelle Blvd. The way these people treat their clientele leaves much to be desired. I went there to get a can of food that I had bought in late October when my dog had some digestive problems; at the time I could have bought a whole case but I declined thinking that I could go back later and buy a can or two if necessary; today, March 1st. I went there to buy the food, and was told that I needed to pay for an exam for my dog; I told them my dog was fine, and that my dog had been examined prior to being spayed in mid-december at their Value Vet on Sawtelle; at that time I learned that these two places are unrelated, and they don't share computer information; I had been under the impression that they were, and only went to the Westwood office when the Sawtelle one wasn't available. The attitude of the personnel on Westwood is terrible, humiliating, and unprofessional; the first time I went there I tried to be understanding because that place is so tiny that people literally breath on top of one another, but after a second experience with them, I can't longer justify their rudeness. God knows how they treat your pet when you're not around. My advise to any pet owner is: DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE IF YOU INDEED CARE FOR HIM/HER. Read Less

Although $30 for a vet visit is indeed cheap, the service and attitude here was so bad I would not hesitate to go elsewhere and pay a bit more money. Here's what happened: I took my cat in to get shots. I called and asked if I had to make an appointment, and the person who answered the phone said, ""No, just come in, we're open until 4 pm."" This was on a Saturday. When I got there and signed in, I was told that the vet just went on lunch and wouldn't be back for a half hour. I sure wish they had told me when the vet would have been available, not just when they were open! I waited a half hour on the one chair in the tiny office, and witnessed several things that made me decide never to come back here. First was a woman who wanted to buy some prescription canned dog food for her dog. They wouldn't sell her the dog food. She argued with the receptionist, who said that because her dog hadn't been to THAT vet's office, but to another Value Vet's office, in a year, that they couldn't sell her the dog food. She was angry because all she wanted to do was buy dog food, not pay for a vet visit. Another thing happened in which someone called in and wanted them to fax her the vet records for her animal. The receptionist refused, saying only the doctor could do that and the doctor was not in and had left no instructions. The caller was angry, claiming that the vet records ""were hers"" and the receptionist told her that she was wrong, that the records actually were property of the vet and she would not fax them without his permission. All of this seemed very unfriendly and bad customer service, and happened within the half-hour I was waiting for the doctor. When I finally saw the doctor with my cat, it was a relatively pleasant experience but just based on what I had witnessed, I would not go there again. The attitude of the staff made it clear that if I had a problem with any kind of service there, I was not likely to receive a sympathetic resolution. Read Less

We are very pleased and relieved to have found Value Vet/Dr. Davidson, who is a rare gem amidst the morass of hysterically overpriced, under-par services dominating the L.A. marketplace. We have lived in the L.A. area for over a year and were still taking our two cats down to their vet in San Diego, but when we decided to adopt a stray cat and needed to get him fixed, examined, screened for diseases, cleaned up, etc., we wanted to try a local vet, and after extensive research brought him to Value Vet. The total bill came to $260, which was several hundred dollars less than we were quoted by other vets we checked with for the same result. One of them even quoted high prices for patently unnecessary procedures, insisting they were a prerequisite to surgery/neuterer him. We had to stop short of getting his shots (couldn?t afford even what we did get done), so that would have cost a bit more, but still less than other vets quoted for just the shots. We were so pleased with how efficient, compassionate, credible and reasonable they were that when one of our other cats suddenly became very ill last week, we brought him in to see Dr. Davidson. Again, we were very happy with the approach and result. We felt that the doctor took the time to listen to our description of the condition of the cat and thoughts as to why he might have become ill, and worked with us to decide upon a plan for treatment, taking a conservative and cost-effective approach. The total bill was somewhat hefty (although reasonable considering all the diagnostic work), but still far less than if he had simply made a snap judgment about the nature of the problem, summarily cut the cat open and then presented us with a bill for thousands of dollars that we could never afford to pay. Surgery was to be the last resort, which thankfully we did not have to resort to. Jaco responded well to the treatment and steadily improved over a few days, and now is pretty much back to his old self! Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

Yesterday was our first time visiting Value Vet and I must say, so far we love it. I went in early in the a.m. to sign in my dog since I was just a block away, they open at 9am doctor gets there a little after that, so my husband wouldn't be waiting outside in the freezing weather with my baby. I liked that the receptionist didn't make it a big deal and was very nice about it, most places won't let you sign in unless you are there with the pet. Dr. Davidson was very nice and took his time answering any questions I had. The place is very affordable, more than most places we have been to in the past and everyone there is just very nice and knowledgeable. We will be returning this week for further blood work, something else that is very affordable. This will definitely be our go-to place from now on! Thanks to everyone at Value Vet for making us feel welcomed and for not being scared of my beautiful, friendly, 6yr old Pit (lol) :) Read Less

Read Less

I had two recommendations by friends who had used their services before. That is a steal, it probably would've been 4-500 at my old vet. So happy we found this place! Seeing Dr. Davidson for a follow up in three weeks! Read Less

Read Less
