I would leave zero stars if I could. Heartless organization that values money over the life of your pet. We brought our very newly adopted puppy home that had parvo and they kept him there for four hours and refused treatment pushing him further into dying because they could not grab a huge sum of money. The doctors there have no compassion or common decency and only care about money and more money. We may lose our puppy now and we have lost the whole day and they refused to gave him liquids because we could not come up with thousands of dollars. This place is a living hell on earth and do not bring your pet here because you may lose precious time and they do not care about your pet. We are now trying to find a place to hydrate him, he is throwing up blood and very sick. He has been sitting there in a cage (not treated, while they tried to get 3,000.00 a day from us. I offered them 50% and that was not enough for this greedy operation. Dr. Wooster said she would wait for us to do a go fund me but that was not enough instant cash for them and Angelo's life means nothing to this corrupt corporation. Try another hospital that is run by humans that actually care about animals. One of the most awful experiences of my life, having the dying puppy sent home and running out of time to save him...... We recently lost our pet of 12 years and this puppy was to be a healing moment and now it looks like we might lose him too. Read Less

DON'T BRING YOUR PET HERE IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!! UNLESS YOU HAVE $13,000 YOU CAN PAY WITHIN HOURS!!!! Especially a life threatening one because they will give u these choices... euthanize your dog, take them home and they are going to die or have emergency surgery but you have to pay $13,000 in full up front right now... before surgery starts!!! My yorkie was bleeding internally, had a tumor in her spleen and on her liver! I was told of all my options by Dr. Tovar who's in charge that day of emergencies. Basically put your dog down, take them home and let her bleed to death or pay $13k now... before emergency surgery. And if I can't come up with the money without saying it she's saying what??? What is she trying to tell me if I don't come up with the money silently???? I begged her to let the surgeon do the surgery ASAP... I had to $2,000 cash to give as a deposit, that I would have funds from overseas by Friday but she said no it's not possible unless she got payment in full. I begged her, I begged the staff. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and she said no. This is there policy. She said rich people and famous movie stars come in here all the time and pay for it in full. Really? Because they can afford it and I'm not rich or a movie star. I don't have good credit since she wanted me to do care credit to approve the entire amount. She was unwilling to wait for overseas money to arrive by Friday when my emergency was on a Sunday. 5 business days. She was not willing to work with me in regards to the money. What normal person has $13k lying around to just hand over. It was like having a gun to my head saying pay me $13 k now or ur dog dies. That's what Dr. Tovar did to me and my dog under an actual emergency. It's an emergency I didn't have time to call other hospitals, do research, look at the place yelp reviews, nothing!!! Finally I got a family member to pay for the entire $13 k bill on a credit card. Staff were happy they were getting there money. But they didn't even treat me or Lady any better. Without the money Dr. Tovar was basically told me we'll just wait until u come up with the money meaning let my dog keep bleeding while she does nothing until I got the money. Finally she got her $13k, then she proceed to tell me well it took u longer than expected to come up with the funds & if we are now going to have surgery tonight it's going to cost u more money just so u know. I asked her if she could waive it & she said no it their policy. Finally we were able to get a hold of our vet. Canceled the surgery. Found a different surgeon. the look on her face was pissed because she now had to give us a refund of $11k. Btw we haven't received our refund. This happens Sunday the 21st of July. We have been told we may not get funds until the 25th/30th & on top of that it may also take another 3-5 business days extra. So Dr. Tovar couldn't extend 5 business days courtesy to me for funds. Now I have to wait up to 10-14 business days to get funds back. Funds I need to pay the actual surgeon that I took my dog else where to for care and surgery. These people the entire staff in the front & back, Dr. Tovar, Jared the manager..: none of them care about ur pets. The only thing they care about is money that's it. They don't care about ur pets health, they don't care about you. They only care only about money. They will let ur pet die if u don't pull the $13 k out of ur ass. even when you pull $13 k out of ur ass they will tell u now they need more money because the surgery will be later in the day yet when they were actually planning on having surgery later in the day. Jared the mgr of the place said after the fact they aren't going to change policies/bend Bc they have bills & staff to pay. I told him I don't care about their bills since no one cared to work with me when I had this bill, an emergency that had to be taken care of ASAP. I didn't have time/luxury to go home, do homework, research, not a day /week of time. This was an emergency and time sensitive. Life/death. This place is a rip off. If you want to kill your pet. Have a hell experience. Be financially corned & fucked.... then this is the place u should visit. Run!!!!!!!! Never bring any of your pets here!!!!! If there's an emergency ur better off keeping ur pet at home and figuring it out yourself than bringing your pet here. They don't care about ur pets health! It's only money they care about and how much they can take you for. Dr. Tovar has no empathy or compassion. Your in a medical field none of ur staff members should be in medicine!!!! None of you care about people, animals or have an ounce of care. It's all about $$$$$$$$$ that's it. This is beyond wrong and ethical & when you call them out on their bullshit they have so many excuses. Read the other reviews on here and you'll figure it out. Receipts of bills attached. Also receipt of how much they still owe us & haven't gotten it back & it's day 5 so far. Go and view on yelp. Read Less

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place. My cat has been here on a few occasions, most recently to get her lungs drained and tests run. The vets took so much time to talk to me about the situation, and the surgeon I spoke to on the phone went over every option possible before we put my cat through surgery. Although it seems a bit pricey, having called around other speciality facilities I can tell you they’re the best bang for your buck, others were much more expensive and not as communicative. Don’t bring your pets anywhere else if they need specialists and overnight care. Read Less

Dr Somerville saved my German shepherd's life when he got bloat some years ago. It happened after hours and the first vet we went to in the valley (McClave in Reseda) misdiagnosed it as a tumor. He recommended putting him to sleep! Thank goodness we got a second opinion. When we arrived at ASEC they took one look at our X-rays and knew immediately that it was bloat. Dr Somerville untwisted his stomach and did a gastropexy. My dog made a full recovery. I now run a home dog boarding and daycare in the San Fernando Valley. Even though ASEC is quite a ways from us, I still send clients there when their dogs need more advanced care than their regular vets are able to offer. Several months ago one of our regular doggie guests was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. Her mom took her to ASEC and Dr Somerville removed the tumor. The dog is now cancer-free! I wish you guys were closer to us in case we ever were to have a time sensitive emergency. I have yet to find a decent vet in the valley. Any recommendations? Read Less

Four months ago my dog, Sydney was struggling to urinate. After getting an X-ray at my vet they referred me to ASEC (LA location) to get an ultrasound. Knowing she was giving bad news, the doctor was very sweet. She sat and cried with me and answered all my questions. Based on the results, we were told Sydney had three tumors. One was 30% of her chest, the other in her liver and the third on her blatter snaking to her kidneys. We were referred to oncologist Dr Downing. After finding out there was nothing sergical to do, we opted for chemo and an anti inflammatory to help relieve some symptoms for the time she has left. Originally we thought that would be 1-2 weeks. Almost 12 weeks later Sydney was still active, eating and playing like normal. She unfortunately passed yesterday after one of the tumors erupted. Losing Sydney is one of the hardest things I have dealt with in my life but from the ultrasound doctor to dr downing and her awesome tech to the emergency vet who told me the bad news yesterday and hugged me and cried with me, I couldn't be more happy with this group of amazing women. I wish I remembered all their names so I can call them out for their awesomeness! Thank you for taking care of her (and me) during this hard time. Highly recommend this place. One negative is the front staff. They aren't very responsive to left messages and they always seem preoccupied when you check in. After spending several hours there over several visits, they seem more interested in chatting with each other rather than giving great customer service. Please don't let that deter you from ASEC though. Just wanted to be honest on why it didn't receive 5 stars. Read Less

I was a bit disappointed by this place although those doctors were kind. I brought my kitty there (he was dying and needed to be either operated or stop his suffering. Although, they DIDN'T know he was THAT serious because the ultrasound and X-ray didn't show his intestine had holes everywhere) Therefore, they took their time and told me the price of the surgery and told me that they're not able to operate him untill they receive the full payment. Which was almost $5000. I told them i only have $2500, and I will pay the rest after the surgery. They refused me. then I tired to apply for "care credit" in the hospital, and it only went through for $500. I paid them $3000 in total and they finally willing to operate my baby. However, during the surgery, the other doctor called my boyfriend and told him that my baby's situation was really bad and gave us the option to put him down because he will have a really low chance to live after the surgery. Im so disappointed that they didn't know how serious he was after doing all the X-ray and ultrasound and just waited to see how much money i could possibly pay them so they're willing to operate him. He was literally dying. Although that the fact is even just a few hours surgery delay will not bring him alive. because he was too serious. The feeling of wanting me to pay the full amount of money to operate him was so bad, and both surgeon and doctor could not know that his was that serious and is going to die just made me feel even worst. How heartbroken is this? so, death happened. Doctors told us that the ultrasound and X-ray don't show hat there were holes in his intestine because it was zigzagged and it hides all those holes. I would not tell you if I will go to this place in the future or not. They didn't rip off my money (although its expensive) but they do have money problem (they have to receive it first to do anything). and, It all depends on your luck. Read Less

ASEC is under investigation for participating in a widespread LA based veterinarian cancer staging scheme. Rocco and I are victims of that. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) notified. Sommerville, who chopped Rocco's leg off in 2015, is one of the most arrogant individuals I have ever met. I asked her why all these increasing "cancer" problems were not detected months ago by other LA doctors and paperwork specifically the Antech VCA biopsy were not given to me until I demanded it and her response "hindsight is always 20/20,'' then said "he will learn to lean against the wall." She walked out the door into the 'back room' while Rocco was lying in front of me on the floor drugged beyond belief with three legs hardly breathing, incredibly horrible graphic sight. Ka Ching! They got $6000+. Another sucker falling for the good ole veterinarian cancer scam. Two days after the amputation Balfour, the original person I saw, contacts me to ask me when I would like to schedule Rocco's amputation. WTF. Enough said. He was reported to the FTC as well. Everyone out there, stay out of these LA based ER rooms. All the veterinarians in LA are in bed with each other and talk with each other via their private online network. It appears ASEC is connected to VCA as well. And who was the originator of the scam on Rocco's leg? Patrick Mahaney "Vet to the Stars." He injected a foreign substance into the leg now amputated during a "routine blood test" that he gave complimentary at his residence in West Hollywood. Rocco was in marathon shape right before that complimentary test and gushed blood out of his anus right after then started limping shortly thereafter. Kickbacks, scam diagnosis staging schemes, price gouging, Yelp pay to play reviews. The list goes on. Get to University of California (UC) Davis or prepared to come into this place with your companion along with your lawyer on the phone to help you see through their scams. Report all complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Read Less

This place is horrible. We came in with a dog who was scooting, a sign of a problem in his anal glands. First they did not examine him in our presence, instead ushering him away to the surgical area. Then someone came out - probably not even a vet - and told us they could not diagnose him unless they put him under ($500 and risky)! We asked for our dog back and it took another 30 minutes, even though they weren't doing anything. For our $107 exam fee we did not get even get a diagnosis (although we did get an estimate since they were eager to operate!). We went next door to VCA where a real vet examined our dog in our presence. She discovered a fissure without any sedative and treated without anesthetic. We feel so fortunate to have found VCA.

Read Less

A really fantastic facility. As a referring vet who sends complicated cases to this facility, all of my patients have received superb and often life saving care. They are not inexpensive but they shouldn't be, they are the top of the top referral facilities. (and they are pretty well priced anyway) This is the place to go if you need serious help for your pet. Bless them for taking care of our animals.

Read Less

I was referred to ASEC for an ultrasound on my dog's stomach and torso by my regular vet, and had a great experience there yesterday.
