Our boxer Sophie, is our baby. So when she became ill, we were scared to death. She's getting older. We made an appt, as soon as we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile. Sophie was checked over completely by Dr.Tucker. He explained everything he was doing, and why. This whole business is incredibly kind, and professional. We feel very lucky to have found a business that treats you as family. Sophie is better, thanks to this wonderful group of people. I'd like to thank them for their kindness, patients, and professionalism that helped Sophie, and her crazy parents. I'd tell anyone who asks go to Feather River Veterinary, they are simply the BEST! Dr. Tucker has always been great! I had a pug mix with an array of issues and Dr. Tucker and his staff took care of him for 7 years until I had to put him down in June. In addition to putting him to sleep in a calm, dignified manner, they also helped with cremation. The Dr. always takes the time to explain everything in detail and does not proceed until you are comfortable. My new bulldog puppy is also going to Dr. Tucker and I recommend him and his staff to everyone. Read Less

Do not bring your animal here unless you want to sit around in the waiting room waiting for "doctor Matt tucker DVM" who after you sit and wait for an hour the "doctor" calls his staff and says he's sick and is not coming in. Now I never leave yelp reviews but this is the second week in a row that the doctor has had us sitting in that waiting room for him to call in sick. My appointment was made for 8:20am. They left us sitting in the waiting room for an hour, saying they want the doctor to check on my dog prior to him having his second vaccine. Now my dog is 15 weeks old and still doesn't have his second set of shots. The girls who work the front desk have no type of communication skills during the past week I have got two different calls from them confirming two different appointment times after sitting in that dirty place for an hour watching the woman use her bare hands while she checks all the dogs temperatures, never once did I see her wash her hands, then she went in the back and used her hands to fill up they're birds food still didn't wash her hands and came and Checked my dogs temp. Aka (sticking the thermometer up the bum), all of that and still doesn't wash her hands ? Then after expressing my frustration that not only is it so unprofessional that this is the second week in a row that this has happened the woman tells me to walk out (mean while my puppy it's in the back supposed to be getting fixed today) how embarrassing is that? My boyfriend and I have spent so much money with this place for them to treat us this way even after what happened last week I still was about to spend another 250$ there ? That's crazy if you want to take your pets to a good vet do not come to this place it's a joke the girls who work the front desk are lazy and show up at whatever time they like and I'm guessing they pick that messy behavior up from the man who they call "doctor Matt" who's even more of a joke how do you have an operation running but call out every week? I have this place one star because I had to to leave this review this place is a joke and you will regret bringing your pets here. Last but not least at my last apt they gave me the option of signing a waver that says I give consent to have my dog recieve his second set of shots then after I did the girl who was supposed to give him his shots comes out to the waiting room and looks like she's scared for her dear life expressing to my boyfriend and I that they just killed a dog through vaccines recently and don't want to risk killing my animal so that is why I made a new appointment to see the doctor who did exactly what he did last week, called out of work. Now how am I supposed to het my dog vaccinated when the doctor never shows up to work? Would you really feel comfortable brining your pet to a facility that never has a doctor on the premises if so bring your animal here and I'm sure the girls who work the front desk won't have a problem possibly killing your animal or setting you up for another appointment when the doctor "feels better" what a joke, it's now 937 am and my dog still needs his second set of shots and my other dog still needs to be fixed.  No thanks to this sick place the doctor is always sick maybe he should get a new job that pays him to stay home let me tell you your in the wrong profession if your a doctor and your always sick, if you being the doctor can't be present for our animals then who can be ???? Surly not the girls you have running your office..... Read Less

took both my cats here on different occasions to have them spayed. we love dr. tucker! he is a talented, compassionate veterinarian and you can just tell they care about your pet at their clinic and want to see them thrive. i have had bad experiences in the past with other vets when it came to cost and hidden "extra charges," feather river has none of that. they will let you know the cost estimates ahead of time and it has always been affordable, way cheaper than any other vet in the area which is utterly surprising, given how good they are at what they do. this clinic is the #1 choice for our pets. Never again will I come here. Paid almost $300 to take care of an abscess on our cat's face, which is fine, However they didn't put a cone on her so obviously, she scratched at it and got it bleeding so we had to take her to another vet because it was after hours. They stitched her back up and put a cone on her, which btw was $7 for the cone, and cost us almost another $300. When my daughter brought her on for a recheck and he asked if there was any problems, she said yes, she got out one of her stitches and we had to take her to get stitched back up and they put a cone on her, to which the vet replied, " Ok, but I don't understand." What part of we had to take her somewhere else to fix her because you did not simply put a $7 cone on her do you not understand? Which would have avoided all problems.... Very horrible customer service. Never againRead Less

We took our senior citizen dog in there to have a tumor removal in her mouth. Unfortunately, the tumor was more then we could see. The vet went ahead and removed as much as he could while also pulling approximately 5 teeth. In my opinion, we should of been called before pulling all of the teeth. Because the vet went up into her sinus cavity, she had a bloody nose when we picked her up. We picked her up with blood all over her face and ear. Ended up being told that she had melanoma and to cherish our time with her...that was it. When we asked about the procedure, he had to go back into the surgery room to try and remember how he had done it. No compassion at all! We called the next day to ask some questions because we were just too emotional when we picked her up and the vet couldn't even answer most of my questions. These are not just animals, they are our family members. This place doesn't treat them as such. Read Less

I had brought my dog there because she was ill. She needed to get a rear leg surgery which he was going to do but he noticed she had a infection and needed antibiotics first. Well unfortunately she got really sick . He could've charged thousands  to do the surgery but instead he told me because she was a bulldog if he did the surgery he might have to remove the leg she was too old to get along without it. I brought her to a different vet months before and I believe he removed the tumor and didn't get it all and it spread throughout her body. Dr. Tucker is an extremely honest and very nice man and put what's best for the pet first. I have been ripped off by many vets. It's really nice to finally have found a honest one. We moved here recently and I needed to find a new vet. Of course I started reading reviews like any informed consumer does (like your doing now). It is sad to me when someone gives a poor review based on ignorance. I loved this vet because they told me all costs up front and even gave me a few options at different price points for me to decide on. Dr. Matt was very competent and friendly, as was the staff. I was an Animal Science major in college and have a neice and nephew who are veterinarians and I use Feather River. I also understand that it is not "just docking" a tail on a grown dog and if you are going to do this procedure it must be important to you so the length is important. (that last point was in case you did read that one negative review :-) ) Don't forget to ask for the military discount. Read Less

We recently took our basset hound here after we got an outrageous estimate for teeth cleaning and pulling one tooth at $1,000-$1,200. That would have only been half of what our boy really needed. Feather River quoted us $300-$600 over the phone. We set up a surgery date and didn't need to pay a fee for the exam on that day. After a quick history and health check they gave us a $765 estimate for teeth cleaning, pulling, mass removal, ear meds, eye meds, antibiotics and pain meds. They also ended up pulling a second tooth but didn't charge us another fee. They took great care of our boy and he is finally feeling 100%. This will be where we take all our pets. Read Less

Before my dog needed to see a vet, my mom and I sent four other friends to Dr. Tucker. We'd heard through the grapevine that he is caring and honest. We heard nothing but great things from the folks who went there at our suggestion as well. Recently, I took my dog to see Dr. Tucker, and I can't say enough about his manner, honesty and the genuine care he took with Jo Jo. Dr. Tucker took the time to ensure that I understood about the tests he suggested, why the results would be beneficial, and he allowed me to make the decision about how to proceed. Jo Jo is a biter and very hostile, and the staff who work with Dr. Tucker were excellent in their handling of her. If I could give Dr. Tucker and his staff ten stars, I would. UPDATE 8/14/15 I recently took my dog Jo Jo back to see Dr. Tucker. At that time, it was clear that she was unwell enough and in enough pain that I chose euthanization. Dr. Tucker and his staff were awesome. Jo Jo was my best friend, and I have never done this kind of thing. I made it through, and I'm waiting for Jo's ashes. These folks are nothing but wonderful. The clear explanations Dr. Tucker gives about options make it very easy to decide on a right course of action in any situation. The vet here removed a large skin cancer tumor from my beloved dog Paco's paw. He did an excellent job, removed all of the tumor even though it was in an odd place between two toes. Follow-ups went well, vet did excellent re-dressing of the wound. Paco is an overgrown 80 lb. pup that can't keep still and the dressings stayed on and the wound healed perfectly with no infection whatsoever. His foot is sound and he does not limp, is back to chasing rabbits and the tumor has not grown back after six months. Vet sent off part of the tumor of a biopsy (this was optional) and it came back as non-malignant. All of this for less than $600 which is a bargain if you check around for cancer surgery. The people here really seem to care about the animals they help. Their prices are reasonable. Quality of care is excellent. I would recommend this facility to anyone. Read Less

We absolutely Dr. Tucker and his staff at Feather River Veterinary Hospital!!! They are VERY friendly, personable, and caring! After taking our dog to other vets to treat his chronic ear problem, we had received a variety of diagnoses and spent a small fortune. Finally, we were told that he needed surgery which would have to be done out of the area and would cost at least $2500. Our other option was basically putting him to sleep. Then we found Dr. Tucker. He has handled our situation in a completely different manner than anyone else we've taken our dog to. He actually took an X-ray and showed us where the problem was located. My husband and I really appreciate how Dr. Tucker has presented information to us about our dog's condition. He doesn't use various technical terms that a person who isn't a vet wouldn't understand. We REALLY like his common sense approach to caring for our dog. His ear has improved immensely, and we are confident that under Dr. Tucker's care, it will continue to do so. We highly recommend Dr. Tucker and his staff at Feather River Veterinary Hospital!Read Less

I have been going to Feather River Veterinary Hospital since I moved to this area in 1992. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Tucker and his staff.  I wouldn't go anywhere else. When Dr Tucker purchased the establishment from Dr Gohman,  we continued to take all of our animals there.  We had a rotweiller lab who was attacked by a neighbors pit bull and Dr Tucker saved her life. The same Dog also got into some kind of poison and Dr Tucker was quick to diagnose and treat her with a full recovery.  I currently have 14 cats and Dr Tucker and his staff have given care to each and every one of them with amazing compassion and excellent care.  I have had cat emergencies from kittens who were 6 weeks old going into hypoglycemic shock and near death, when I took them in and Dr Tucker saved their lives. Dr Tucker has also had to correct another vet in the areas misdiagnosis and unneccesary surgery.  In December of 2012,  I had 4 cats become very ill. Dr Tucker ran tests, even though my cats had been vaccinated against the disease, he suspected  a new stain of Panleukopenia. The tests revealed his diagnosis was correct and my cats received EXCELLENT care and made a FULL recovery.  My questions and concerns are always answered and addressed.  I would not go to any other Veterinary!  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  As for anyone giving a bad review... I don't know what they are talking about because it does not smell in the office and there is no one there inexperienced at all.  Dr Tucker you and your staff ROCK!  Thank you for all the care you have given to my animals over the years! A huge feet I know, I said I'd pay it wasn't a big deal (I know this place is in a bad part of town and probably deals with people with not a lot of money BUT it seemed that every time I asked about something it was " that'll be an extra $$$" ) I asked for my border collie to get her tail docked while she was getting spayed.  Which was also going to be an extra $$$ and i assured them that was fine.. They were going to have to give her an extra 15 min of sedation.. im not a vet but it seemed a little excessive.. The vet seemed a little inexperienced..before the procedure the vet called in a panic not knowing how long of a docking i wanted.. If u know border collies it's only 1 1/2 to 2 inches.. When I went to pick her up at the 4 pm she was HIGHLY sedated still.  I asked if she needed a cone for her neck and was told no she should be fine or it would be an extra $$$... (If I would have known about the later consequences I would have paid the extra 20 bucks)...  I know some dogs don't deal with sedation well and maybe it just hit her hard but I was up all night cleaning up her vomit/drool/urine all over my house.. 3 days go by and I was looking at her tail and it was oozing and looked half chewed off.. I instantly took her to another vet and he was horrified. Will not be going back!! Plus it smells like urine in there office Read Less

I took my 13 year old cat here because he's been losing weight, I was scared because my moms 13 year old cat just had the same problem and her vet basically just said "he's just old". I did not want to hear these words because he's not acting "old" and I know there's something wrong. Originally my appointment was for the vet on Beale AFB, but they called to say they were all going to be gone that week?? Which didn't make any sense, but they recommended Feather River Vet to me. I saw Dr Troxell and she seemed to check him out very thoroughly and suggested we get blood work done. This is what I expected, she also told me what they were checking for and what the possibilities were. They said they were having the blood work sent out because it was cheaper, and I would get the results back in 24 hours, much quicker then I expected.Originally I gave them 5 stars, but the reason I went down was because of their price. It seemed like they tried to save me money on the tests and I also overheard the cashier telling another customer ways to save some $. However, JUST the exam was $44. That is the most I've ever spent on an exam, I thought it was very steep. The most I've ever paid for a vet visit was $35.I can't say how relieved I was to not hear her say "he's just old". Honestly, I wouldn't have accepted that answer, and I was very scared this is what I'd hear. They seemed to really empathize and understand that I know my own cat and were concerned with finding out what was going on. I don't think I'll be taking my pets here for general check ups or vaccines, because it seems too pricey, but for serious concerns I'd definitely take them back here. Read Less

Over our 20 years living in Placer County we've always obtained our dogs through an animal shelter.  Our last rescue came from a different county, Yuba-Sutter County Animal Shelter.  Upon obtaining her, we paid a refundable deposit once she was spayed, we returned to the shelter and our deposit was refunded.  Feather River Veterinary Hospital was the spaying recommendation of choice.  We must say it was a wonderful recommendation.  FRVH is located in what I would call an older building in an older part of town, but in no way does it reflect on their service.  Dr. Tucker and his staff are excellent with our dog.  Dr. Tucker's friendly and not offended when asked various questions.  We've since taken her back twice - once for a yearly injection (which they OFFER MONTHLY CLINICS which is nice - it's pretty much a walk in and walk out) plus to have her dew claws removed after one of her dew claws were torn three various time from running activities here at home.  What I didn't know is they included in her "surgery" appointment an ear check (they found a fox tail and removed it, no additional charge - THANKS!), nails and anal glands.  Again, all at no additional charge.  Now days, most clinics want to charge extra for each additional "task" they perform.  Their rates are moderate and their service is great.  We'd highly recommend them.

Read Less

I took my dog in for a cracked and abscessed tooth. Everything was great till I get there to pick her up and they hand me her tooth they pulled AND one of her dew claws they cut off!!! WTF. They never asked us or even mentioned to us anything about removing her dew claw. The lady at the desk gave us some crap about how people dont trim them and they curl under and cause sores on the pads. But we kept em trimmed and it wanst bothering her at all. I have the dew claw to prove it was trimmed. It was her lucky dew claw, she had an extra one on one of her back paws. I mean even if your at a mechanic they check with you before they do anything extra, but they never said anything to us. I cant believe they did that with out consent.Read Less

My dog was having 20 minute seizures every few hours and I took him to an emergency vet who found my dog was having heart problems quite badly. That vet called Dr. Tucker at 11 at night because I couldn't find the list of meds (it was so hectic) and Dr. Tucker told the vet that he would absolutely help assist in the emergency procedure and even said we could use his office. He offered. He was never asked to help or assist he just jumped up and said, hey I want to help! At the very last minute the 2 drs decided to try one more option before the surgery and that option WORKED. No surgery and only one seizure in 3 months. The office might not be high society with techno gadgets and electric faucets...give me a break. you have real people who LOVE animals and will do anything for them. Dr. Tucker is so willing to go above and beyond for his patients that going anywhere else just isn't an option for me. The staff are SO pleasant and kind and i know my animal is going to get treated like royalty because, to that staff, my animal IS royalty. All animals are. Read Less

I adopted a dog from the pound i was not able to pick the vets office she got spayed at.  This place would have been my last choice!  Since she came from the pound and wouldn't be able to have a bath for at least 10 days I asked them to bathe her..
