I think my cat got good medical care at Peninsula Pet Hospital, but I just decided to go to another place: I've been going to PPH for 15 years, several times a year as I got my cat's food there, and I realized that no one there knows her or my name, ans doesn't seem to recognize us when we go there. Incredible that a place that's supposed to show care and empathy can be so cold and lack so much interest for their customers. I happen to think that being friendly to your customers is not only a polite thing to do, it's also good for business. Read Less

Booked an appointment for a Monday with a specific vet as she was recommended to me, I called the same day to confirm the time of the appointment and they say they don't have any appointment scheduled for me that day or any other day and that the specific vet was not working in the time of my appointment anyway. I feel like they are not serious at all and don't give reliable information. I wanted to switch to a new vet but I'm never going to waste my time with them again. Worst phone service I've had with a vet. Read Less

Great on laprascopic spay. However, Peninsula Pet Hospital uses Fetch ID for pet microchipping and failed to inform us that this requires an annual $20 fee (so that's an extra ~$300 for lifetime of our dog). We only found this out when we went to register the ID online. I don't know why PPH chooses this scam microchip company when there are other pet microchip services with lifetime registration for under $20. They should know better or at least be up front with their customers. Read Less

This is our new vet and now all our animals have come here.  I have seen 3 different veterinarians and all listened, respected our concerns and gave us great advice and our pets great care.  They helped us with our cat at his end of days and our new puppy.  I think they are just great.I find the costs reasonable and while sometime it is hard to get an appointment, everything runs like clockwork once you do for the first and any follow up visits. The parking is easy, the facility clean and the staff awesome.  We have an AmStaff and they treat him just as he treats everyone, with love, respect and lots of attention.  I am happy to have found them. I hardly ever write yelp reviews, but I feel compelled to after many years of care at Peninsula Pet Hospital and most recently a health scare with my darling dog, Murphy. Both Dr. Harish and Dr. Foley are the best veterinarians than you could ever hope for. Both are extremely knowledgable, compassionate and excellent communicators. After receiving some bad results from a biopsy, both vets took so much time to discuss the results both during the appointment and over the phone to ensure I understood the results and my options. I have never felt rushed or unimportant as a client. Prices are reasonable and the front desk staff are excellent and easy to work with. My puppy has received the best care possible and I am incredibly grateful to count on them as my vets. I have recommended the clinic/vets to multiple friends and all have felt the same after seeing them too. Thank you Peninsula Pet Hospital ! Read Less

I made a spay appt for my kitten w/Dr. Harish after doing hours of research/reading reviews & contacting vets.  I was impressed w/all the 5 star reviews and w/the Vet Tech I talked to on the phone. I made an appointment way in advance.  I wanted the appointment on a Thursday to be able to spend the max amt of time w/her at home.  (I generally work from home Fridays.) When I called a couple days prior to the surgery to check in, I was surprised to discover they had rescheduled her surgery w/another vet w/out asking me.  I wasn't comfortable w/that & Dr. Harish wasn't available so I had them move the appt to another Thurs a few weeks later.  The next week however, they called me and said that was a mistake...Dr. Harish doesn't work on Thurs....so I had to move it AGAIN.  I wanted it done first thing in the morning Fri then.  No problem they said.  They also assured me I could meet w/Dr. Harish in the AM @ 8:30 before her surgery & that he would answer any questions or concerns I had about the procedure & give her a pre-surgery checkup while I was there.  I arrived promptly at 8:30 the morning of the surgery & was asked if I wanted to see the doctor? Um, Yah! So, they sent us to a check up room...where we waited for 20 minutes until finally another vet came in (his wife Ulla?) & said Dr. Harish was running late, she didn't know when he'd be in, & she didn't want to leave me waiting.  I felt super uncomfortable because I had specifically selected Dr. Harish & rescheduled TWICE in order to get on his calendar.   After I talked to her for 10 minutes or so, he FINALLY poked his head in, looked at us & left.  WTH??I was annoyed to find out that they had scheduled a couple of appts in the AM before her surgery despite having assured me hers would be first thing.  I told the vet I very much wanted to hear from Dr. Harish as soon as the surgery was done & she assured me he would call me & said if I didn't hear from him by 1 to call. She also said she thought I would be able to pick her up at 1:30.  Well...by 12:50 I hadn't heard SQUAT...so I called.  The receptionist claimed he had called me (he hadn't) & then said he was out at lunch.  I said I wanted to know how her surgery had gone (great! she said) & said I could come pick her up at 3:30! Wha???  I said I would really like to pick her up earlier if possible. She said I needed to talk to Dr. Harish.  She didn't know when he'd return but said but he had an appointment @ 2.  When I STILL hadn't heard back by 1:58 I called again &, he WASN'T BACK, despite having an appointment in less than 2 min.  She checked on my kitten and said, oh, you can come get her now. Great! A little more communication/notice would have been great!  I rushed down as quick as I could and then was made to wait for 30 min before I could get her.   I STILL NEVER GOT TO SEE DR HARISH.  They sent out some vet tech to give me instructions.  WTH?? I was charged $300 for a spay which would have cost me $50 at PHS.  I knew that & was willing to pay it anyway because I thought I would have more personalized service and a higher quality of care for my kitten.  Boy was I wrong. If you think that was bad, it gets worse, because when I looked at my bill, they charged me for the "check-up" which they said was free because she was a rescue (an additional $63.81), misspelled my name BADLY despite me having spelled it to the lady using the pilot's alphabet (A as in Alpha, B as in Bravo...) AND having filled out a paper form this morning, and then their post op instructions (printed out /given to me vs. the promised conversation with Dr. Harish) were actually lifted off of some rescue site in New York!!! These instructions include contacting "Operation Pets" if you have any complications from surgery.  REALLY??? I should contact this place in NEW YORK if my kitten has complications from YOUR SURGERY.  W.O.W.They told me they would be in the office if I had any questions until 5:30.  After realizing they overcharged me, misspelled my name, had questions about the plagiarized post-op instructions, I tried calling them at 4:36 and got promptly sent to voice mail stating they were closed for the day.  NICE.I seriously do not understand all the 5 star ratings. Either people have shockingly low standards or something else is afoot. In summary:*Resched appt 2x*30 min LATE for first appt of the AM*Didn't bother meeting w/me once he did finally show up*Started my kittens surgery hours after promised time*Didn't bother calling me after surgery despite his office/other vet having promised he would.*Didn't bother calling me AGAIN after leaving message to please call.*Didn't bother meeting me when I came to pick up kitten, sent out vet tech instead.*Plagiarized post op instructions printed off some New York web site*Overcharged me*Left at least one hour early after saying available until 5:30*Still have not heard ONE SINGLE WORD from Dr. Harish.USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I appreciate the staff at Peninsula  Pet Hospital very much.  They do very thorough exams and explain to you what they are doing and why. My dog Hermes has been going there for several years. He was always happy to go there and say hello the Staff. I have been to other Vets and I know how lucky Hermes was to be cared for by the Staff there. Hermes became seriously ill last week and I rushed him to Peninsula Pet Hospital. The staff went into action and treated Hermes for a tumor on his heart that was bleeding. They drained fluid from the area around the heart but said he needed to se a Cardiologist as soon as possible . They calledSAGE Emergency in San Mateo and I rushed Hermes there. Hermes was extremely ill and all efforts to save him were to no avail. Dr. Ulla of Peninsula Pet Hospital called and offered to come to our home to euthanize Hermes. She and her staff sent us a sympathy card with loving remarks about Hermes. We miss him so much. When we are ready to adopt another dog that dog will be cared for by the Staff of Peninsula Pet Hospital. My sincere thanks to everyone at Peninsula Pet Hospital Read Less

All round - the best vet team I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with. I brought in my 15-y.o. cat Nala for a routine check-up (but she'd also been eating less the past several days). She was diagnosed with distressed kidneys :-(  The PPH team exceeded my expectations in many ways.1. Nala is a new patient; getting an appointment was painless. Becka offered me several options for a same-day appointment! Yay!2. I was lucky enough to get Dr. Harish (as a new client, I hadn't asked for anyone in particular). Dr. Harish is patient, extremely thorough, and a calming presence - all of which I find invaluable in a doctor. After the test results came back, he called to discuss treatment options and spoke both to me AND separately to my mom (repeated everything twice!). And he made sure we had everything we needed as quickly as possible (I was leaving on an international trip in a few days and was needed to make sure Nala's foods and meds were taken care of before I left).3. Did I mention how fast the team is? I went in at 4pm on Tuesday; Dr. Harish called the very next morning with the results.4. When I asked to stay with my cat during her blood draw and urine collection, I expected I'd need to convince the team to let me do so. But Dr. Harish responded with a wave of his hand and a quick "Oh yeah, sure - we'll bring everything in here (the exam room)." And his team wheeled in all the equipment from the back! All other vets have refused to let me stay with Nala to soothe her; probably because they have reason to expect the owner would freak out if they witness the process, or because their operational setup doesn't allow for owners to be present. 5. Nala is a very difficult cat to draw blood from. Her veins are tiny. Carlos and his teammate (I'm terrible for forgetting her name) were so patient and gentle with Nala - and with me! Carlos has excellent technique, skill and bedside manner as a care provider, as was further exemplified when my mom and I came in again to learn how to administer subcutaneous injections. He's an excellent teacher. We asked a million questions and he answered them all.6. My experience was one that only a family practice could provide - and this is a family practice. Nala's doctor is easy to reach, there are no mystifying line items on my bill, and my questions are always answered by every single member of the team. I picked Becka's brain at the front desk for several minutes with random questions (about Nala's food and her med supplies) and she answered them all. I could go on, but then I might as well write a book. Make this team your pet's team :-) Read Less

I made an appointment here for my cat to get one of his vaccines updated. The receptionist was easy to reach and was able to get me booked within a day or two.The office itself is quiet, clean, and moderately sized. Some veterinary offices feel chaotic and stressful due to a high number of pets and people in the waiting area; this place was peaceful and we were brought into an exam room quickly. The vet who worked on my cat was friendly and knowledgable. She did a very thorough physical exam and picked up on a heart murmur that my cat's previous vets had missed (though, to be fair, it could have developed more recently since he's getting a bit long in the tooth). She gave him the vaccine and recommended a senior wellness panel (comprehensive bloodwork and urinalysis) since he's a senior kitty. Her staff performed the blood draw and cystocentesis in the back room and worked quickly so my grumpy cat had minimal stress. The vet called me personally a few days later with the results and it was all good news. Awesome! This place is a bit pricey - I spent about $250 for the exam, one vaccine, and bloodwork/urinalysis - but after all, it's Menlo Park. I didn't mind spending the extra money for such a thorough exam and a stress-free experience for my cat. Read Less

I am so very grateful for the wonderful people who work at this hospital. My kitty cat had a tooth abscess a few months ago. It was recommended that she have oral surgery. I felt so very worried. I really did not know where to go and after reading yelp reviews found Peninsula Pet Hospital. After calling and speaking to Carol (who is empathetic, informative, and kind); I ended up taking my kitty here for dental treatment. I made an appointment to make sure the dental treatment was the BEST option. Even after the initial visit, I called with worrisome questions. And every time, Carol made me feel so comfortable and related to me in a very special way to make me feel that they would take great care of my kitty cat. She told me all the doctors here are great and she was right! Every person who met me and my kitty made us feel so comfortable. Dr. Ulla even called after the surgery and told me what was done and that my kitty was doing fine. Read Less
