Wonderful Clinic. We had emergency surgery issues that needed skill and diagnostic tools. This place had both. I spoke with knowledgable nurses and doctors before my dog was even seen. I've recommended this vet to every pet owner I know. This team has cared for my two cats, my housemate's cat with epilepsy, and has given me advice to care for local strays for almost two years. I've never once doubted their skill, competence, and genuine care for my animals. Even when forced to make the difficult decision of putting an animal down, the team's sympathy and kindness are authentic. At times there has been a wait (10-15 minutes) but that's a small price to pay for the high level of care that is provided and at a low cost that is manageable for someone struggling in their 20's. Valley Animal Hospital is the best vet I've been to, hands down, across three states and 5 cities.  They have a straightforward, caring approach that never makes me feel like they're trying to gouge me (my experience at many/most other vets, unfortunately).  Quite the opposite - I really feel that their main goal is to help my pets, and the approach and the cost always seems measured and reasonable.  Our primary vet is Dr. Klingborg, and he is kind, reasonable, and reassuring.  They take the path of least resistance first and don't jump to $100s for tests, etc, which I truly appreciate.  Of note, we also use their boarding for my dog and he loves going there.  A truly great business and we feel lucky to have found them! Staff and doctors went beyond my expectations in the care they provided for my pets and the individual attention they gave me as a guest. This is apparent in their enthusiasim to examine our pets and learn more about their condition, whereas other places are primarily concerned about whether or not you're able to pay.The doctors here do not overcomplicate perceived problems with my pets and recommend only the appropriate treatment needed. My dog came in with what I thought was an ear infection, and the doctor said that he just had a dirty ear and to simply wipe off the visible debris. Any other place would probably have recommended a bounty of expensive ear treatments and antibiotics to get the most out of you, but like I said, they only recommend what is needed.There are many other places to receive veterinary care here in Merced, and this is the only place I trust with my pets health and my wallet! They have always been very nice and take great care of our dog. However, their boarding facilities seem very tight and loud. Every time I pick up my dog, he sleeps for 3 days straight, presumably because he gets no rest there. Otherwise, the staff is friendly and the Doctors are always knowledgeable. Read Less

I would recommend this office to anyone. Everyone here has always been very nice. All of the doctors here are amazing. They are very knowledgeable. This is the only place where the doctors have sat down and taken a significant amount of time to go over my pets' conditions and weight out all of our options. Going to the vet is expensive as it is but here, the doctors here know the steps to get down to the issue without being uncertain or doing extra, unnecessary tests. I am very happy with the way myself and my pets are treated at Valley Animal Hospital. I feel comfortable going there, everyone is nice and caring, and it feels like they really do have my pets' best interest in mind. Dr. K is so helpful and does not rush the appointments. He takes the time to explain everything properly and really teach you about your pet and the illnesses they may have. They really listen to your concerns and are accomodating to your needs. For example, my dog is a newly rescued dog from shelter with separation anxiety. He needed a hip procedure done. We were able to take the dog home same day of procedure to do aftercare at home which made me feel so much better about this big surgery. Dog is now healthy and doing great, thanks to Dr. K and team! They also have a rewards/points program now which is really nice if you have multiple pets and/or many trips to the vet. Read Less

This place is a rip off. I paid 399 cash for a puppy package, that was to include spaying and a number of other services.    I called to schedule the spay appointment tent , only to be told my "coupon " had expired! Wtf?I did NOT have some "coupon".I PAID  399 cash and they are refusing to provide the services I PAID FOR.  I'm a senior citizen on a very low income. I don't have money to get my dog spayed elsewhere.   I am in the process of filing a lawsuit against this RIP OFF business.  Do NOT patronize this sham bs place.They have bad reviews because they DESERVE THEM Read Less

I was driving through the Merced area on my way up to Oregon and realized my cat might have tapeworms! I called right away at 730 am when they opened and I got the first appointment at 9am with the doctor. It was a nerve-racking experience for a new cat owner but they made me feel much more at ease after providing very professional and friendly care to my little feline friend. Dr. Lauppe is a GREAT vet. I have seen him twice now one for the sad outcome of putting my Lilly to sleep she was very sick but  Dr. Lauppe and his staff were great. The second time was yesterday my new puppy had an accident and was in need of emergency surgery and again the wonderful people there were grest!! it did cost a bit but they even helped with that too. My dog had bad swelling in his face so I took him into the vet. I use to go to the vet off of Yosemite, but didn't get treated right felt. This vet treated my dog and I amazing. Sat on the floor to have my 621 Bobwhite Ct get comfortable with him. Did a full examine explained everything and answered all my questions. My dog got two teeth removed and is happy and on the road to a full recovery. Wish I originally went here since they treated my dog and me well. I 100% recommend them Read Less

Dr. Lauppe was extremely helpful and provided some great insight into the problems my cat, George, was experiencing.  He was clearly concerned about George's health, and requested some further tests, but made sure to only request what was really necessary and didn't look to get any unnecessary, expensive tests that would've been hard for me to afford as a college student.  Once we determined that George wasn't suffering a immediate life threatening condition, Dr. Lauppe gave me his office cell number and told me I was free to contact him and send him any videos or pictures describing George's condition and he would provide me further advice.  He also followed up with me only a few days later to see how George was doing.  I was very satisfied with Valley Animal Hospital, and I got the strong impression that Dr. Lauppe was genuinely concerned about the health of my cat, and not looking to request any unnecessary tests or procedures only to raise the cost.  If you're looking for an excellent vet, look no further than Valley Animal Hospital. A wonderful office! Very friendly staff and the doctors are very good. I've never had a long wait and the doctors take their time with you and your pet. On another note I would just like to ask people who take their pets to the vet to stop and think about the care they will receive. Veterinarians are in school just as long as a medical doctor. They have to learn everything about several types of animals, not just one human. They are a dietician, endocrinologist, surgeon, lab assistant, cardiologist, radiologist, oncologist, optometrist and ENT, just to name a few of the fields they are educated in. They were very sweet and professional, laid out their services (which were inexpensive) and appeared incredibly clean and well-kept. We saw a great vet who followed up with us a few days later via phone, and then we went in for an emergency suture check for free about a month later. We haven't boarded with them yet, although the prices appear reasonable and she loves the staff: we tried to do daycare, but they had had a case or two of kennel cough and were shut down for cleaning, which I think is the responsible way to handle such an incident, the incident itself being unavoidable. I plan on staying with them for as long as we have pets in Merced. Read Less

My two Bichans are treated royally at VAH. They have had day care during the week since November. They arerelaxed with their care-givers, and it's obvious that the staff love Pete and Auggie. Dr. McFadden has been our vet for 8 years. She is wonderful with all 3 dogs and was very calming to me when my Dashel Finley started having seizures. Took my cat in for an injury based on the positive reviews. I have to say, the doctor is excellent. He seemed to genuinely care and took his time explaining everything and seemed very knowledgeable. To be honest, he spent more time with us than the doctors I see for myself usually do.The price was pretty reasonable. $99 for the exam, an anti inflammatory and antibiotic shot, and ear drops. We were in and out in probably 30 minutes tops. It's also a very nice office and smells great in there. Most vet offices smell like old wet dog. Added bonus, he looks and sounds quite a bit like Stephen Colbert! As much as I hate to deduct a star, I have to for the somewhat questionable service I received when I called back to ask about their pet sitting service we wanted to use. For whatever reason, the lady on the phone was either unable or unwilling to give me a straight answer about whether or not they could take him with his current vaccination status.  The entire conversation was very frustrating and I still never got a direct answer. Such a nice place.  I just drove up from Orange County to pick up a puppy.  I found this place on yelp and they were able to schedule me in last minute for a puppy check up and shots. So glad I was able to get this done before the long road trip back down south.  Facility is very clean and beautifully decorated.  Staff and doctor are all very friendly and accommodating.  Wish this pave was closer to home as they would for sure be my new vets.  So refreshing to find an animal doctor who still cares about the animals! Almost  10 years ago, I brought my dog, Molly in for parvo.  She had previously been treated at another vets office (out of town).  Unfortunately, she wasn't getting better.  When Dr. Klingborg saw her, he actually promised me that he would make her better...and he did:)  We have continued to bring our pets to VAH over the years, and have nothing but positive things to say about the facility and the Dr's.  Last year, my silky terrier was diagnosed with kidney failure.  He was so severe, that they really thought he wouldn't last a month, but my little miracle lived another 14 months.  Unfortunately, we had to put him to sleep.  Not long after that, I received a little package in the mail from VAH...it was his paw print, in plaster.  Made me cry tears of joy.  After having to go through something so devastating, it was wonderful to receive such a perfect gift.  Just this month, I received a letter from Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, informing me that VAH made a donation to the Companion Animal Memorial Fund, in memory of my little guy.  There aren't enough words to express how special that is to me, and how wonderful this facility and Dr's are. My various felines and I have been very happy. Mostly seen by Dr. Klingborg, we've gotten excellent attention, even my one who is a little phobic of the vet. My only 'criticism;' wish they could do more while I'm in the room. I get taking my kittens "in the back" to get some of the vitals and such, and I get that there are panicky pet-guardians out there where it might be best to care for the pet away from the human guardian. But still ... I like to watch and learn and see how best to hold, examine, treat my kitties. Read Less

This doctor is as good as they come, i am a rescue and i have taken so many of my dogs into his care and he has done amazing work, while other vets in my area want to charge you an arm and a leg, Dr. Klingborg is reasonable and knows his stuff.  I love this vet hospital and i only wish they were closer to me, maybe someday he will open up a practice in livermore..
