As much as I want to like this place. It's very expensive and when you make an appointment you expect them to keep it but they call you an hour before your appointment and say the doctor is out with a sore back. So there aren't any other doctors or nurses to do a basic check up? Wondering why I get all these annoying reminders in the mail for check ups but when I make an appointment it can't be kept. Better off going to the Clearlake animal hospital which is open 7 days a week and with much later hours and they don't cancel on you. As soon as I moved here, one of my dogs was injured, and I was so glad to find the friendly, knowledgable people at Middletown Animal Hospital! They accept Care Credit, which is a 0% interest credit card that we use as our pet insurance (so we know we will always have a way to pay for emergencies). I told them how scared my pup is of cones, and they came up with the excellent solution of putting a shirt on him to keep him from liking his wound while it healed! Pure genius! This guy is the worst!  It's all about the money with him.  He will threaten put dogs down if you don't have the money to pay for unnecessary pet procedures.  I've never seen any businesses  with more reviews that Yelp deems as fake (Middletown Animal Hospital).  That alone is very telling.  I was hit with a $2,000+ emergency c-section bill which happened during office hours, if I didn't pay up, he would be happy to put my 10 pound dog (and her puppies) down.On a positive note, I will say he was helpful during the Valley Fire, but I would NEVER entrust him with the care of any of my animals. I have only been a client of Middletown Animal Hospital once, and my pet did not survive. However, I will forever be grateful for the way we were both treated. First, they got me in asap, despite my not being a client. Second, they treated my goat as the pet she was, not as expendable livestock. Lastly, when the diagnosis was made, Dr Smith was gently honest about options, and forthright about her chances. His focus was on what was best for her/us, not his bank account. As a former vet tech, and life long veterinary client, I can say that it was one of the best first encounters with a veterinarian I have ever experienced. I have used Middletown Animal Hospital for many years for both my horses and dogs. The veterinarians are knowledgeable and compassionate. The vet techs are some of the best, and seem to truly care for the animals. The office staff is efficient and friendly and try to always be accommodating w/ scheduling services. The doctors are willing to refer to specialty services when they deem it necessary and are familiar w/ many of the specialists in the vicinity. We are lucky to have Dr. Smith and his staff as they are able to offer this community some of the latest rehab services such as laser, ultra sound and underwater treadmill. The clinic also offers excellent boarding for dogs and cats, some grooming, and pet food to meet special needs. The clinic does ranch calls for large animals and limited after hour calls. Overall, I would say we are fortunate to have all of this in a small community. Veterinarian care costs money, and that's the only downside to having all this. I dislike vet bills, but I also realize that's part of being a good pet owner. This clinic has always come through for me and my family. I would highly recomend this clinic for your veterinary needs. Everyone at Middletown Animal Hospital has been great with my two dogs, Maggie and Deuce. They take great care with them and I have found them to be extremely professional and knowledgeable. Took my dog for a paw issue and it ended up being a lot worse than we thought. He ended up having to have sedation and have a couple of his paws operated on. The staff was exceptionally helpful and very caring to our dog and gave us options without pressuring us to spend a lot of money. Def recommend them to anyone! Read Less

We are new to the area and looking for a vet home and needed a vaccine only.I took my little guy Jack to the vaccine clinic. That was fine. The place was clean, modern and very pleasant. Pets and their owners seemed to genuinely like the staff.The staff here were mostly friendly. I asked for an additional copy of the vaccine record and was told they would give me one to take anywhere I wanted to get a copy made. I said, these are the kinds of things that cause me to not want to return.After a pause, the same lady made the copy and I thanked her.I was distressed to talk to a really sweet lady trying to get copies of her dogs vaccination records and tags. She was in the fire and her home and car were burned up. She lost everything including the records and tags. She said the new manager refused to give her copies because the customer/dog owner was unable to prove that these dogs were the ones that were vaccinated. I was stunned. The lady was very sad but seemed to accept this.I don't know if I got all the facts or not but it sounded wrong from what I understood.The incident above about the copy caused me to feel it was true but I don't know. I want to find a vet home for my little Jack but I don't know if it will be this place or not.The receptionist (I can't remember her name, was very nice to us as was the new trainee) was very helpful when I went in last week to find out specifics about the vaccine. She was pleasant, courteous and answered everything I asked in a way that helped me to decide which way to proceed. The other lady with the longer curly hair in pony tail was not my favorite and wouldn't have given me a copy had I not made the comment about not wanting to return to a place that wouldn't give me an extra copy. I would have gladly paid them for the copy, not an issue.I might go back and see how it goes if we need them for something again. But I haven't decided.I would have liked to give them just 2 stars for what transpired, but hey, I got what I came for, and left with the requested copy in hand. Had she made the copy and asked me to pay for it, I probably would have given them 4 stars (5 if I hadn't heard that woman's story and saw them refuse her request, after all she had already been through). I used to visit Silverado Vet in Napa, when I lived there and the service there was top notch! So when I recently moved back home to Middletown, I started taking my pups to MAH and the service is not up to my standards due to my previous experiences. Prices are pretty fair, and this is a very convenient place for me to take my dogs, but 1. they always seem to be busy! I mean a 30-45 min wait before the front staff greets you is quite too long -thank goodness it wasn't an emergency! 2. they greeted other people and I felt as if I was complete ignored. I understand that they have made a relationship with customers but I believe in fair and equal treatment to all. 3. be ready for a LONG visit! I usually spend about 3-4 hours each time I go here. Most of that time is wait time, oh and for some mysterious reason, their system is always down. Read Less

The staff and physicians are attentive and  do what's best for your animal every time. They may not be the cheapest Vet  in the area, However when you're getting treatment for a beloved pet you shouldn't be looking for a bargain.You get what you pay for... and Dr. Smith takes the time and researches the diagnosis. Being new to the area, this was my first time using their services. I left thinking "This place is great!!"The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the Vet really took her time examining my dog's eye. She found a large foxtail lodged under the 3rd eyelid and made sure there was no debris left behind. This being the same foxtail that another Vet (in Santa Rosa) missed completely a few days earlier. The office and examination rooms are clean and comfortable. They didn't push any unnecessary procedures or tests and took the time to explain everything that was done during the removal of the foxtail. I appreciate that.  I also like that they care for more than just our furry friends, they also care for the ones with feathers and/or scales. I'd say, I have found our new Vet Hospital. Read Less

Amazing....I can't express our gratitude for everything they have done for our dog Daisy. About 18 months ago after visit to UC Davis we almost put Daisy to sleep because she was a dachshund with major back issues. We saw that Middletown Animal Hospital was offering Laser therapy. I have been taking my dog to Middletown Animal Hospital since 2008. I trust all of the vets at this facility 100% with my dog's life. It truly is an animal "hospital," not a clinic or simple vet office. They have proven their capabilities numerous times with the care of my dog. Over the last few years he needed quite a few emergent medical and surgical interventions. He's had surgery for gastric dilation and volvulus (bloat), a rattlesnake bite, and surgery for a spontaneous splenic torsion and splenectomy (to name a few-his med rec is pretty thick)  Many vets would advise to euthanize under some of those conditions but they took his care very serious and he is alive today thanks to them. I also board him when needed at Middletown Animal Hospital as well.  They have large comfortable indoor/outdoor kennels to protect against the elements. The kennel staff is great and the area is kept nice and clean. The only downside is the cost, but that is to be expected with most animal hospitals. You get what you pay for and I'd rather pay a little extra to ensure the well being of my dog when it comes to his medical treatments.  It's a good idea to get pet insurance.  I don't like how the dog food, flea and heart worm protection seems to always be a little more expensive than at other vets for the same stuff.  So I do go to the other local vet "clinics/offices" occasionally for those things. I always recommend this place to my friends, family and co-workers. Dr. Holtz, Dr. Duff and Dr. Smith are all excellent. My dog actually gets excited when I pull into their parking lot. He gets so much extra love and affection from everyone there. Read Less

This is long overdue... Over 5 years ago I took my lab in for a check up.  I regret...every minute of every day...of every hour...taking my beautiful Labrador in for a simple "check up".  I was in a flurry of results from heart disease to cancer, etc. and believed they knew the best.  They did surgery...a show dog breed...now severely scarred for life.  Heart disease?  Skin cancer?  A second opinion from Santa Rosa...false.  From what I can tell the surgery for my beautiful lab was done by a technician and for no reason.  It was the most horrible experience.  I will never never never go back and I'm a local who's family has lived here for more than 30 years.  If you love your pets...don't come here.  Our lab is still with us at 12...with a 6" scar across her back.  Upon her dying days...this vet is not the one I will call upon to help me through the hard times to say good-bye.  I've heard Sally The Valley Vet is good, compassionate and affordable...I would rather go to someone I don't know than to call anyone...anyone...here. Very knowledgeable. I have been coming here for 20 plus years and have always felt like they provided the best care for my animals. Impressed with service.I had a bad experience at another place in town so my neighbor suggested Middletown Vet, what a difference!! They scheduled an appointment so my dog and I didn't have to wait in the heat, and it was quick and easy. I was happy to find their prices weren't more expensive and they were helpful it letting me know what my dog needed in this area. I was happy to find they offer emergency care so I don't have to head back to Santa Rosa if something happens. Briefly: By phone, I was told my medium dog would be $25.00 for an overnight. When I came in with records in hand(from Florida), the reception handed me a list of the over $90.00 boarding schedule charges for 1 night! I was flabbergasted. No one mentioned I needed a lepto shot w/mandatory Vet office visit. Plus $6. Capstar flea pill though my dog was on Comfortis and I had the prescription to prove it. So I/we LEFT. No Harbin visit and no overnight there, ever! Becky's in Apple Hill costs $17.50/nite& AllCare Vet in San Carlos, CA is $16.(w/food provided by me). I didn't mind the $25. for a visitor like me but not the bait&switch. I even had phoned in for a reservation and was never informed of these extra requirements. Or I would not have wasted my gas to drive up from the Bay Area. No Harbin, but no Middletown Animal Hospital. Don't be duped. Read Less

Middletown Hospital Staff took care of our beloved Samson for three years since we moved to Hidden Valley Lake. We took him there for medical care, boarding, and grooming. They are so very caring and gentle with the animals. Recently Samson had to be euthanized - he was very old. They were more than compassionate to us during what was one of the most difficult days we've ever experienced. Samson was a big part of our lives for 19 years. We were very moved to hear the staff who knew him were also upset about his passing. They became attached to him too. He had endeared himself to them because they opened their hearts to him. In 2006 my horse became a Lake County statistic because I couldnt get a vet out to our ranch to help him with colic. At the time, I spoke with a vet who said that he wouldnt come to Lake County because horse people in Lake County dont pay their vet bills. That vets office was about 15 minutes from my ranch. Thanks to Dr. Jeff Smith and Middletown Veterinary Clinic, I will never have to experience that horrible feeling again. Dr. Smith is knowledgeable and shows genuine concern for the improvement of the quality of life for all our animals, large and small, through diagnostic and treatment options. His state-of-the-art facility is beautiful, his staff friendly and caring. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Taylor who coordinated the teeth cleaning and did the teeth extractions on my two 9 year old kitties. I am one of those overprotective owners and she was able to calm my fears with her expansive knowledge and training as well as her calm demeanor. One of my kitties is extremely skittish and she was treated with patience. When it came to administering the medicine she was very patient with me and helped me feel competent to administer them on my own. I was very pleased with our visit to this facility. We found that the staff was friendly and had a beautiful hospital. During our visit the doctor spoke about our dog " Brooke" having laser treatment, which we went home and discussed. After weighing our options and speaking with others people who had tried laser we decided to see if it could help her. We scheduled 6 sessions and were so pleased after the second session to see such a huge difference in her walking & attitude. Brooke has finished all 6 sessions and we can't begin to explain how happy we are to have her feel 5 years younger!!! Highly recommend to anyone who wants the best care for their beloved pet!! I'm so grateful for them!! My dog was bitten by a rattlesnake and they were able to get us in immediately even though I wasn't a client. They were able to save Gracie. She was able to go home the next day and they talked to me about the rattlesnake vaccine, I will be bringing her back for that without a doubt. I have been boarding my goat, Charlie (yes, he is named after the youtube sensation), here for over a year. They have taken excellent care of the little guy and they are always very welcoming when I stop by to visit him. I adopted him about 18 months ago. The team at MAH did an incredible job of repairing his broken leg when he was just a kid. He runs, plays and jumps as if he never had an accident.
