Look no further, this place is the best! We originally started going to Muirlands just out of convenience and good yelp reviews. The first couple years was just the normal check ups for our black lab Maggie. They were always really nice and we felt good going there. When real things unfortunately come up for your pup is when Dr. Ikeda and his staff really shine. They went way above and beyond when we found a 5 pound tumor in our girl. The things they did and care they provided her were above and beyond our highest expectations(among several other actions, Dr. Ikeda cooked Maggie chicken and rice at his home at 9pm and went back to the hospital to feed and spend time with her). We had 3 major surgeries performed by Dr. Ikeda and his staff, all with great results. We started going here due to proximity, but would now continue going here no matter how inconvenient. I highly recommend Dr. Ikeda and his office, Muirlands Animal & Avian Hospital. We have taken our various cats to Dr. Ikeda for many years. He has been a skillful and caring vet to all our animals. He presents various treatment options to fit your family philosophy and finances, which we really appreciate. In addition, he is willing to try new and different treatments. He helped us when we adopted a family of six kittens and their mom from a shelter and cared for them throughout their lives. Now we have an older cat with serious health issues and he has gone out of his way to bring in opinions from other vets to successfully treat this cat and keep her alive!The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I took my parakeet here after she was unsuccessfully treated for scaly mites at another vet. Dr. Kanbe tested some of the buildup around her beak and determined she actually did not even have mites any more. This saved her from receiving additional unnecessary doses of medicine which could not be good for her. I was so happy about that and about my choice to bring her here for a second opinion. Since then, I have been taking my birds there. My daughter and I love Nicole at the front desk. It is truly fun to come and chit chat while we wait for the appointment. We brought our other parakeet in for a checkup and we saw Dr. Ikeda and he was so awesome! We just loved him, he was so nice and explained so much about the birds, even letting my daughter listen to the heart beat! He is truly an expert. I wish I could give a lower rating than 1 star.  We rescued a min pin Chihuahua mix dog who had been abused. We brought him to Muirlands Animal & Avian Hospital and after waiting 2 hours after our appointment time, Dr. Ikeda tells us that he cannot examine our dog. Our dog is too smart and doesn't fall for his tricks getting him into the muzzle.  He goes on to tell us that it is a liability issue and that he doesn't want to risk getting sued. He cannot allow us to put the muzzle on him because if we got bit we could sue him and if one of his techs tried to help him and they got bit they could sue him. The ONLY thing he cared about was being sued. We asked what we should do because he clearly had an ear infection and he said..."looks like you are between a rock and a hard place".  We asked if he could give him antibiotics for what is clearly an infection and he said he would not because it was a liability issue.  He didn't care about our dog's welfare at all and only cared about being sued.  The funny thing is that we brought our dog to his office the week before and his partner was able to examine him and give him a shot.  So either they ripped us off last week and charged us for a shot he did not receive or Dr Ikeda is cold and heartless and didn't take the time to help our dog.  Either way this office is HORRIBLE!!!  If you love your animal....do not take them here! My Amazon parrot Daisy has loved only me for the past 43 years. She recently contracted a respiratory infection which Dr. Ikeda successfully treated. He is a very knowledgeable Avian Veterinarian that helped Daisy. He taught me to treat Daisy myself through the use of Antibiotic injections....a very patient man. I took my dog Sadie here for a first time check up.  As expected my dog was nervous but Sheila (who is very sweet and helpful) calmed her down by playing with her while in the waiting room.  Once the Dr. was ready to see Sadie, I could tell she was in good hands.   The Dr was very welcoming and gave me some great advice in regards to some concerns I have had for Sadie.  By the time we left, Sadie left with a smile.  Sheila even called me after the appointment to see how her appointment went.  Everyone here is super friendly and helpful. My husband and I moved to the area last year with our three dogs.  We had a veterinarian that we adored in Texas so I was nervous about choosing a new vet in a new area, but I was impressed by the reviews that I saw on Yelp for this office.  One of the things that really caught my eye was how long Dr. Ikeda's staff has worked for him, I found that to be unusual and I took it as a great sign.  Dr. Ikeda is a lovely man and his care and concern for my pets is very apparent each time that I visit.  Shortly after I started going to their office one of my dogs became quite ill and I was so impressed with the care that we received from Dr. Ikeda and his staff.  My dogs are my babies, so when one of them became that sick I was heartbroken and I cried in the exam room.  I was very embarrassed but everyone was so kind and his staff all hugged me and reassured me while Dr. Ikeda arranged an appointment with a cancer specialist.  Thankfully, the diagnosis was not cancer, but I was extremely grateful for Dr. Ikeda's help during such an overwhelming time, and I was so touched by his staff's care.  Whenever I bring my dogs to the office, everyone dotes on them and lavishes them with attention, I have no doubt that the people at this office genuinely love animals.  I have to give a special shout out to Sheila, she is the sweetest person you will meet, and I am so grateful to her for treating my babies with such love.  I highly recommend this office, the doctors and staff are all very knowledgeable and compassionate and they provide excellent care and service.   I consider finding them to be a huge win for us! I work at a local grooming shop in dallas tx and was treated very poorly by NICOLE, who told me that the account I had been looking for was a closed account and that she was too busy to pull up the file. Basically she told me that it would be to much trouble for her to do her job and pull up a file, a basic vaccination file which takes a normal vet less than 2 minutes to pull up. I was shocked that someone in a customer service position would have the audacity to refuse to help a client because she "had other things to do." I asked to speak to a manger since she was refusing to help me and disregarding the basics of her job, at which point she went and got another associate. when I asked the associate if she was the manager she said "no, she didn't say you wanted a manager." needles to say I was livid and furious. finally I got a manager on the phone (Christine) after I explained my situation to her she was more than apologetic and very helpful. she was able to pull up the file I was looking for and gave me to correct information. needles to say Nicole doesn't know how to do her job and if you are looking to use this vet I recommend asking for someone other than NICOLE!!!! she will most likely not be able to help you. I have been in customer service for 10+ years now and have never been told something so dumb as "i cant help you the account is closed and I don't have time to look it up. I have other work I need to do." the point is... I'm the client.... I asked for information..... look it up!!! NICOLE, PLEASE WORK ON BEING MORE ORGANIZED AND POLITE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, IN THE OFFICE AND OVER THE PHONE. Worst experience of my life. I highly recommend that you never go here. They don't help and completely try to rip you off. Triple check your bill I assure you they put extra charges on there to try to make extra money. I will never go back - I waited 2 hours to see the vet and he was very rude and aggressive with me as a walk in client stating that I must wait longer since I don't have an appointment. Everyone here is awesome and super sweet! After a disaster at another vet ( Banfield) it is so refreshing to have met such a welcoming staff! We have met both doctors and bother were so sweet and caring! The staff called to welcome our new puppy to the practice which was so personal and sweet. We made an appointment for our other dog and couldn't get into an appointment for at least a week and they called us to make sure our dog was okay over the weekend. They are so sweet and they go over pricing with you before they do anything to make sure you are aware of what is being charged. We recently had to say goodbye to our long time kitty due to an unfortunate onset of cancer :( However, Muirlands Animal & Avian Hospital found it possible to make the experience as easy as possible for us. They offer a cremation service for your pets through another company. We just picked up her little urn today and it is so precious. It also came with a little ceramic paw print of our little furry friend. And last but not least, we got the SWEETEST card in the mail with all of the staff's condolences. So far only one experience but it was very good. We had recently moved to the area and I got a referral to a different vet who made me feel like my concern for my dog was annoying and treated him roughly. He had an allergic reaction one morning, and after getting rude service from my former vet I called Muirlands at the recommendation of a friend. Very glad that my husband came across this place. Our Caique has been having mucus issues off and on for quite a while now. His prior vet just blanketed him with the basic stuff and were more interested in finding ways to get us to give them more money. Everyone here is incredibly nice - they follow through with everything they say and are genuinely happy. Doctor Ikeda clearly loves his job and is extremely knowledgeable about birds, which is a huge relief. He made sure we knew exactly what he was doing with our bird and was very thoughtful in allowing us to think over on following through on some tests just in case the less expensive option worked. My wife has been taking her love birds here for a while. It was only natural to take our dog here when we adopted him from the rescue. This place is top notch in service and care. All of the people who work at this office seem to genuinely like animals and care about their well being. All of the visits that we have had were satisfactory in every way. We get follow up phone calls for each visit as well, just so they can see if everything is ok. I have had Dr Ikeda and Dr Kanbe, but they are both very nice, very professional, very knowledgeable, and very caring. They are both highly recommended. I believe this is also one of very few vet offices who specialize in birds, so if you have birds that need vet attention, it might be worth your while to come here. This is the most wonderful vet in all of OC. Dr. Ikeda is incredibly kind, caring and intelligent. The vet techs are always gentle and loving with my sensitive dog, it's easy to tell that she loves them! And of course the ladies at the front desk are always friendly and very clear. My family has been coming to see Dr. Ikeda for many years now. He's assisted us with many of our dogs. Currently, he has been working with my sick cattle dog. He's respectful and very caring. I am so glad I found this hospital for my SI Eclectus, Pericles. The staff is so warm and welcoming. It is so hard to trust and find a knowledgeable avian doctor. I had great experiences with Dr. Kanbe and Dr. Ikeda. They were both gentle with Pericles and informative. Dr. Ikeda even kissed Pericles's head. ( kisses are Pericles's favorite.) When my little dog became paralyzed in his hind legs I took him to an emergency veterinarian in my area who spent less than 10 minutes with me and said he needed surgery ASAP or to be put down. Someone recommended that I go for a second opinion to Dr. Ikeda who is an hour and a half away from me and I'm so happy that I did! He took the time to talk through all sorts of alternative treatments that I could try that the emergency vet didn't even touch on.
