I had the misfortune to find this vet and fall into their money pit scheme they have going. Last year (2016) around October and December they stole $600 from me. They diagnosed my Doberman with an ear infection to which they asked I leave him for a few hours as they were going to put him under to flush his ear. Now I find out the a dog has to be awake to do any flushing of the ears as the dog has to shake its head to flush it out. THEY RIPPED ME OFF!! Twice! This vet needs to be reported so they can cease their shady practices. Run! There are many vets who can give you an honest diagnose and won't overcharge for services not rendered. Do not take your pet here unless it's for routine care, you could save its life. I have never been more dissatisfied. I frantically took my puppy here after she'd eaten snail bait. I was brought to an exam room and Dr. Jacobs came in and said that he would induce vomiting, give her charcoal, and valium as a sedative. I needed to alert my family members where I was and ask my mother to come as quick as she can cause I'm a minor and didn't have money on hand. I went out into the lobby to borrow a phone because mine was dead. Jacobs followed me out and said "You need to be in the exam room, phone calls are for later." I was infuriated and a woman from the front desk comforted me (cause she probably does it all the time). My baby was treated and I took her home for the night. I thought I was done with that apathetic, incompetent jerk. The next morning she started vomiting blood so we rushed her in again. We had to wait an hour and a half for Dr. Sandhu (the owner I believe) to get there, though she was put on fluids. We specifically asked for this doctor, Dr. Sandhu, because of how rude Jacobs was. We were assured our puppy wouldn't be treated by Dr. Jacobs and a few minutes later Sandhu came in and explained how HE would treat her. He said he would give her antibiotics, do blood work, give medicine to prevent more vomiting, send us home with said medication, and give her medication for the apparent ulcers in her stomach. The only treatment she received was iv fluid and blood work. When we picked her up, what do you know, Dr. Jacobs came out and gave after treatment instructions and said "she was a great patient". This is my 2nd bad experience with this joke of a clinic... my Yorkie started screaming while laying in bed with me.. she panicked and wouldn't stop shaking her head... this clinic was the only one open in town ... thats the ONLY reason I took her here.. they weighed her.. and the vet that came in looked at her .. put his hands up and wouldn't even TOUCH her  he immediately said that he needed to sedate her to even LOOK at the ear. My dog wasn't crying or struggling when he came in.. he just assumed that she wasn't going to let him touch her.. I told the vet I didn't want her sedated just to look at it... (she's 4 pounds and I know the risks of sedation ... just to "look" in her ear) he completely ignored me and went on to say ..."but we're closing soon so you can leave her here and pick her up tomorrow " WTF? Did he even listen to what I said?!  I walked out and said thank you but no... as I walked to the counter to pay.. he yells out "it's still $59!" .... really!? I responded with "don't worry I'm not gonna run out on ya" what pisses me off the most is his attitude.. no concern for my dog.... only money. WARNING- DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Yes many have had good experiences but too many have had awful ones, including myself.Last year, my beloved cat Larry became lethargic.  They x-rayed him and treated him as if he had a cold.  Dr. Sandu treated him, always disinterested kept insisting Larry was fine and he just had an infection.   One night I rushed Larry to an emergency room then was sent to a legitimate vet, who showed me x-rays where Larry not only had severe pneumonia but a golf ball size tumor in his belly.  He was put down that day.Last weekend, I found a poor, sickly stray.  Being nearby and open I was unfortunate to see Dr Jacobs.  A rude, uncaring, lazy sarcastic man who man-handled this poor cat, sliding her around on the table like she was a toy causing her to cry out in pain.  I left telling them to bill me.  Later that day a woman from the office called me and apologized and told me that she pretty much understands what I went through but can't actually say it and she did not charge me for the visit.  A few minutes later, she called back saying the other Dr offered a free appointment in the future for one of my other animals.   I would never in my life take another animal to this place.I have been to dozens of vets, some good, some bad and I am not very hard to please and I am pretty understanding about things. Dr. Sandu is definitely the nicest most understanding vet that I've came in contact with. He worked on my German shepherd two separate times now and I now consider him a good friend. I went with my mom to put down her cat that was sick this last weekend. The front lady clerks were so nice. As for the Indian vet that actually put down our fur baby.... WHAT A EFFIN JOKE. He never once explained what exactly was going to happen (which an owner needs to know to confirm their fur baby will be put down peacefully) Then he went to administer the injection and had his assistant physically hold down my moms cat instead of asking if she wanted to comfort him. SERIOUSLY? So not compassionate. They didn't offer a sedative before hand and we truly didn't know that makes the horrific experience a bit more easier... so he directly injected the meds to stop the heart without one. Then when our poor babies eyes didn't close my mom asked "Well is he gone?! His eyes aren't closed yet!" And he responded "They won't close. It's okay. His heart will eventually stop." Then left the room. IF YOU EVER WANT TO HAVE A PEACEFUL AND HUMANE GOODBYE WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL FUR BABY PLEASE DONT GO HERE. I put my furbaby Bella to rest there in October. I had previously taken her and my other dog there and they were well taken care of. However.. the Dr who put her down and the vets aid that picked Bella up and set her on the table ha# on empathy, sympathy,  nothing.. No feeling at all and I my friends and I were couldn't believe it. We were in2 shock and didn't even know what to day or do. UNFUCKING BELIEVABLE.I've been calling around trying to find some place that has a doctor available to see one of my sick pets to start medication/treatment and this was the only place that I was told may be available. I called, I was put on hold for about 5-7 minutes (that's ok, I'm sure they're busy), but then when I simply said I have a sick pet that I suspect has an infection, the lady tells me the soonest I could bring my pet in is in a couple of hours to put it down.WHAT THE FUCK.Seriously? That's what you default to? PUTTING IT DOWN? No empathy, no compassion, tone of voice like normal every day business, no big deal, right? Front Desk Staff is anything but warm and friendly. However, everyone did their job. I was in and out in no time. Routine rabies vaccination and flea pill. Including the exam fee (which all the doc did was pet my dog, say "he's a good looking dog!" Listen to his heart and feel for any weird bumps....this took 20 seconds. Everything came to $93. I opted for the more expensive flea pill. Wish the exam had taken longer and the doctor had made an effort to get to know me. Didn't even shake my hand. Read Less

This staff is very friendly, you can tell they love the job. The vet is knowledge and the animals seem to like him. This vet is clearly not in it for the money. I shopped around and he had the best prices. The meds are adorable and they have no problem calling it into your local pharmacy if you need them to. If you have pets you need to check them out. We originally took our dog to monte vista in Turlock to get spayed, she started having problems almost right away. We tried to go back to them several times and were brushed off and ignored. One night my baby starting crying out in pain i laid with her all night and until we could get her to monte vista vet they said she was fine and wouldn't have a vet see her. We called american pet hospital and they were able to see us right away. The front staff was friendly and the doctor we saw was excellent. He was able to tell what the problem was just by looking at her and feeling her tummy and legs. He gave her a shot and some medicine and she is feeling almost 100% better. There are many different vets who work here . I saw one Dr. Jacobs who was so rude. He looked at my cat less then 2 minutes and said what was wrong . If I could give this place negative stars, I would! I have absolutely nothing good to say. I took my dog here after being referred by a friend who said they had great prices. Let's just say, you get what you pay for. Customer service isn't their strong point & the vet himself was rude and insincere. Initially, all I needed was vaccinations. However, I had noticed a bump on my dogs butt and I asked the vet to take a look. He informed me that it looked like she was developing an abscess and that there was nothing to worry about unless it ruptured. I believed him. Well... It ruptured. When I went back, he handed me a paper with what it would cost to do surgery.... $ 400. I later found out that it was her anal gland and they could have prevented the surgery by expressing it when we came in the first time. Not only did they fail to give  me any information but they purposely put my dog through unnecessary pain just to make extra money. Two weeks later, she still didn't look like she was healing correctly, I took her to another vet who informed me that it was not done correctly and that my dog would need a second surgery! We had such a negative experience today. Although the Dr. was very nice, he spent less than 45 seconds examining our puppy. And we waited over an hour past our scheduled appointment time to be seen for a single puppy exam. More than anything I was appalled by the staffs unwillingness to help or do anything above and beyond. We asked for a report card stating the puppy had been examined and found to be in good health, they said no they dont do that. I asked for a vaccine record, no they dont have those. They are very compassionate and truely care. Id never go to another vet. After 19 years going here they are family. What other vet would stab open late just for your pet? This pet hospital saved our boxer Dukes life. He caught parvo and my wife and I took him here. They got us into the exam room as soon as we walked in the door. The Doctor came in and ran a parvo test on him it came back positive. Then he laid out the options of parvo treatment to my wife and I, take him home with meds or leave him there for in house treatment. For the very affordable price of 600 dollars, we choose to leave him at the hospital for treatment. After 8 days our boxer is back home and happy and healthy as ever. This pet hospital is the best. Then I get home and bolt out dog who's been in Labour for 3 days is covered in green stuff all over her back end. Take her to vet and find out that the puppies are too big and one had ruptured the bag and she is infected. And the puppies may be dead. 700 for c-section. Dejah cried cause I couldn't afford it and I was going to put her to sleep. Then these Angel of a lady comes and talks to me about Bolt and started crying. She leaves days God bless and I thank her. As I'm signing the paperwork to put her to sleep. This nurse I can't remember her name was a blessing also. So this nurse comes and says that her surgery has been paid for. This vet serves an important need for after hours and emergencies. However, the front office people are unprofessional and appear uncaring. The exam table had dog hair all over it from the previous visitor. The Vet is personable and nice, however after care services apparently non existent. Usually owners are given a list of things to watch for after their pets surgery, a number to call if problem occur. Nothing. There website states they offer a senior discount, not true. "That's from our old website" . Really, I think they should update the site and not deceive seniors. I worked at another vet for years and have dealt with this place over the phone for a number of things; copies of records for patients and bloodwork results for mutual clients. The idiot I talked to on the phone apparently didn't understand that I needed the records faxed ASAP because I had to keep calling back several times until I got frustrated at him and he finally faxed them over. Another time, they couldn't find the patient's bloodwork and that's because they don't enter the patient in until after the results get back???? A friend said her cat died because they didn't weigh her before surgery to get the correct amount of anesthesia, and the cat died as a result of too much. This was told by the tech on the phone as to why she died. Not to mention, the doctor is unprofessional. Read Less

I would give this place no stars if I could. They should not be in business. They spayed my parents cat and attached stitches to her intestines; the cat died. Without knowing that this was the vet that did this, I took my lab puppy there to be neutered. They called me as he was waking up and said that one of his "members" was undesended and they wanted to know if I wanted them to put him back under and do an exploratory surgery right then. Umm no. I paid for a pre-surgery exam to see if he was ready, and they assured me that he was. They then gave me a pain prescription for a 140 lb dog, when my boy was only 40 lbs. Good thing I checked before I gave it to him. They also made me repay for the correct dosage when I returned to pick it up. I know someone who took a rescue group of cats and dogs there to be altered. When they picked the animals up, they were groggy from meds (expected), but hadn't been altered. My partner and I took in a stray about a month ago. We were referred to APH by a friend of ours. We had looked and felt for a scar to see if she had already been fixed and didn't see or feel one. We took our puppy there today to have her fixed. A couple of hours later I get a call stating she had previously been fixed and could be picked up tonight. When I went to pick her up I asked is there was any way they could cut part of the cost since they didn't actually do the spay there in their office and they told me no. They hadn't checked for scarring, or done x-rays her. Needless to say, I had to pay full price for them to cut my puppy open for no reason!!! Read Less

My husband dropped off our cat at American Pet Hospital because he looked a little under the weather and lost his appetite. They first told us that he had swallowed something, they kept him for testing. When I called the next day they said he had lupis. Then they said he might leukemia. They never called me, I was the one that called every 24 hrs because they kept giving me the run around. When I showed up to see how he was doing the lady up front looked like she was uner the influence of something. They totally ignored us while we stood at the front desk for about 15 minutes. My 2 yr old cat looked like crap and totally scared to be there. They never quite explained why my cat who always seemed so healthy had suddenly got sick and had to be put to sleep. I understand that animals die it just sucks not really having a clue as to why?? What wwere the x-rays & blood work for? nobody ever made me feel liked they cared about my cat or even cared to find out what was really wrong with him. A cheap price is not always a good deal. Last month my dog was attacked by a group of dogs. After trying many vets that were all unavailable... I ended up at American Pet Hospital. They acted fast and were very helpful. They explained everything that needed to be done and also they dicussed the cost options. Being someone with a very strict income... they worked with me. They went above and beyond for my dog. They also did more then I was able to pay for.... but they were generous and cared about my dog as much as I do. The staff there were GREAT and they all have huge hearts. I've heard the stories, and ignored them, now my cat is dead due to their mistakes. Now my cat is gone, and I'm very sad that I ignored what I heard about this place. Yes, it took me a few times going there before something like this happened, but just don't let them do this to you. They are suppose to be the experts, and they are not. And it is going to come back and bite them. I should have NEVER took my cat here, or my other animals. They will got get more more cent from me or the chance to hurt another animal of mine. This place is fine if you're looking to save money. I would however say they are not extremely thorough when examining your pet and in my personal experience they have made several serious misdiagnoses. Example - saying my cat had allergies and giving him an allergy shot when in fact he had leukemia. Big difference. They are fairly unorganized also with records, place frequently smells of urine. But - for basic stuff and you want to save a bit on office visit costs and save on meds, etc. I would recommend this place and I still go there for most issues. They open early at 7 am and close at 8 pm although the doctors only take appointments from 10-12 and 3-6. They also have a new emergency on-call system up to 11 pm. Guess that would be a benefit.
