Worst veterinarian/person I have ever met!!!!! My neighbor rescues cats so I went on her recommendation. Boy, do I need to give her an update. I asked Baker for an estimate on how much it would cost to check my dog for an ear infection. If I hadn't asked it would have cost me $500+ !!! He wanted to put her to sleep, (that's a big no for me) and flush her ears. He pretty much tried to 'bully' me saying people should realize the costs for a pet before they got one, and what did I except him to do. This was all done before he examined her! I've had my dog for over ten years and have never been told I shouldn't have her if I couldn't afford her. I can afford her, I xxwanted to know the cost up front!!! He was also horrible to a lady in the next room having to put her dog down. I could tell how upset she was coming in the door. He was not sympathetic to her feelings and not as quite as bullying but basically said how could she make her dog suffer just because she didn't want to put him to sleep. I gave her a hug and told the sweet young woman at the counter how grouchy and rude he is, she excused it by saying he just came back to work from being sick ~~ then stay home, don't insult your patrons. And with that I will never be back to his office. And my Maggie is doing great on her antibiotics and cream for her ears. Talking to a coworker about Baker, she said she refuses to see him, she will wait to see the other vet in the office, I possibly may do that just to let him know about Baker, or just stay away and visit a better vet. I have been  going  to  Dr. Baker for years.  The staff is kind and friendly.  Dr. Baker is a true animal  person, he loves them all, big or small.  And I can not thank him and the girls enough for going above and beyond every time I go in there. Read Less

I have never been a fan of the staff or Dr.Baker himself but I kept on going here because my aunt holds the establishment in high regard. On my second to last appointment, I ended up fed up with Dr. Baker's uncaring attitude in respect to my cat and her slight weight loss (they are definitely biased if you don't own a dog). He looked at my cat not even a minute, and recommended leaving her overnight so they could run some tests. I'm sorry, but I'd bet money that every employee is out the door when the clock hits closing time and I'm not about to leave my cat locked up in a cage in a foreign dirty place like that. I told him that wasn't acceptable and he said I could bring her back the next morning and they'd keep her all day. I agreed to it there.However.When I got home, I had a change of heart. Since my aunt deals with scheduling appointments with them, I told her to call and cancel my cats all day stay with them, BUT I was willing to let them give her both rabies and leukemia vaccines (you can't mess that up, right?). My aunt decides to tell them a white lie, that we can't afford it but the shots would be fine. And the lady on the other side has the NERVE to laughingly scoff at my aunt and rudely mutter something to the tone of, "Of course you can't." Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm hi. She's not deaf. I was THINKING about finding a new vet, and you were the last straw. On our last appointment with this disgusting establishment, I was made to wait 20 minutes past her appointment time. Cause you know, they only have two rooms. When we're finally called into a room, its absolutely disgusting - there's blood on the floor, in multiple spots.......really? There's also a small sign on the DR's table claiming it was sanitized. Sure it was. When he finally meanders into the room, I just want out of there. Apparently, his vet techs are too lazy to do their job and I have to hold a squirming cat. Which he starts getting irritated since I hold her the wrong way. Sorry but its YOUR establishment's job, not mine. I've never been to a vet as incompetent as this one.Never coming back here again. I'll be returning back to Sylvan Veterinary (they treated my dog well before she passed, have never taken my cat), the optimum choice. Read Less

My boyfriend has come to this place for years. I was pretty hesitant, since I always take my animals to Escalon, but figured since our young dog had already gone here, better keep it the same. The veterinary techs were all very nice, and were quick about answering the phone. I was in and out of that place within 15 minutes: my dog got his shots, and the vet prescribed him medicine and a spray for his rash. It is true, the vet probably isnt in the condition to be lifting the animals, so the tech and myself did that. No, he wasnt overly social, but he was not rude and he was gentle with my pet, and I think that is the most important. Bonus, walked out of there spending way less than expected. Very happy, and might start taking all my pets here from now on. Read Less

Baker showed me and my fiancée zero respect and did not care to listen to a thing we said. He did not have any information for me when I asked about my dog besides what medicine my dog needed to take. They did not ask my consent for some of the testing and procedures that were done. That was very upsetting. His staff acts friendly but they left my Dog with shit on his backside after having to clear his obstruction. The nurse ladies even pointed it out to each other in front of me. How mean can they be to my dog to leave him like that? I think if anyone wants quality care and someone to listen then DON'T GO HERE. Read Less

@ S.C. -  I can certainly feel your pain with the dog lifting issue - my lab weighs over 110 lbs  and Steve (Dr. Baker) has me and his assistants lift her!!  Honestly, I used to date Steve and love him to death, however, I agree that he needs to remodel and I have actually mentioned that he may want to get a hydraulic table that both weighs AND lifts the dogs for him!Steve is an AMAZING Veterinarian, really!  He is more into the "science" and the chemistry of medicine, he's not going to swing dance with you while you're there, though he could teach a few men a few things!!  I'm sorry you had a bad experience but, I would give him another chance and make his staff lift your dog next time.  I will certainly bring this to his attention when I speak with him again. I had taken my dog here a few times and was somewhat pleased with the care we received.  The desk staff is very friendly, Dr. Baker is "okay," but the place needs a good renovation.  It's old, dusty and depressing.Then, my dog came down with a slight infection and I wanted it checked out before my baby was born.  I was 9 months pregnant, due any day and took my dog in to the vet.  Dr. Baker told ME (the pregnant woman) to lift my 75 lb dog on to the exam table.  At first I thought he was joking... but no!  I even made a comment "ohh you really do want me to go in to labor, don't you?!"  I went ahead and lifted my dog (yes, I am a tough woman), and after the exam, I payed my bill, left and vowed NEVER to go back to this place again! I took my cat there and he wanted to Euthanize her. He did not believe in giving subQ fluids ro any meds to help her. I took her, immediately to another vet who showed me how to do subq fluids on her and she was with me and happy and enjoying life till she died of something unrelated years later! Read Less
