Just love Dr. Owens!  She is always great with my fur babies.  She is  on top of their health issues and reminds me of any needed care.  She is extremely knowledgeable of all the latest medical information concerning our babies!  The dogs love her, are always excited to see her and we all feel safe.  I am thankful that she always promptly returns phone calls.  She recently helped my grandson's 17 yr. old cat leave this world and her compassion was such a  blessing.  We knew it was time for her to go but Dr. Owens made sure we knew all options.  She is very clear in her explanations and I never feel pressured or rushed.  This is a great, safe place to take your precious babies!  Thank you for  loving our babies as if they were your own! My wife took her shepherd to this clinic at the encouragement of a girlfriend she had been going to another vet in a close by et town that she was happy with but just wanted a second opinion. The dog had a complete work up with x-rays  and blood tests 2 months previously .But they insisted on repeating ALL The tests. After being told the dog had cancer  she was given a bill for $1000 . And she drives home safely and called the office to Office to complain, Advised to set up a consultation with the owner but no thanks  They prey on your love for your animal but diagnose for dollars. Hmmm....where to start.  I've had two Old English sheepdogs for quite some time.  One was 14 and the other is 8.  They never really had major health issues, so vet visits were usually perfunctory for routine health maintenance and boarding when we went out of town until October.  I found a mass on my younger boy.  That's when I met Dr. Amanda Owens.  She newer to the practice.  Within a few days, we were able to schedule surgery, and it was a sarcoma.  While he was recovering, the my older boy started acting weirdly.  He had a seizure the night before his brother's post op appt.  Dr. Owens said just bring them together.  I would never have imagined that we'd have to put the older one down at the same time that the younger one was recovering from cancer surgery.  Dr. Owens was incredibly compassionate.  She even sent us a handwritten Christmas card. Fast forward a few months, and we had adopted a new dog from Pasadena Humane Society. He's a much smaller dog-they think maybe dachshund/jack russell mix.  My 5 yr old picked him out.  It's HIS dog.  He will tell you all about it, which is pretty amazing because until he got this little guy, he's always been afraid of dogs despite growing up with them.  This little dog has given my son so much confidence and instilled responsibility.  They are best friends-every stereotypical boy-and-his-dog thing you might imagine. The dog's had a run of health issues that we never anticipated.  The majority was pretty basic stuff like that he came home w tapeworms, had some skin issues etc.   His behavior was otherwise pretty good, and he came housebroken.  Last week though, he started acting strangely-eating walls and trying to chew tile floors.  He broke a tooth doing this, so I took him to see Dr. Owens.  She ordered labs before planning sedation for tooth extraction, and we were all very surprised to see total derangement of his blood counts.  He has end-stage aplastic anemia.  It's not curable, and despite attempts at treatment, he isn't getting any better.  We're hoping that he might hang around for a few more weeks, maybe even a few months at best.  My 5 yr old was there for the conversation, and he understands that his dog is very sick.  Dr. Owens was FANTASTIC explaining to him in a very honest but kind way what might happen.  She did a better job helping my son understand that his best friend won't make it than I probably would have done.  She spent extra time with him and took his questions very seriously.  On the other hand, I am a cancer surgeon, and she was able to easily switch and have a colleague-level conversation about cancer biology, treatments, trials and outcomes in the medical veterinary literature etc.  She's knows her stuff.  I really can't believe that in 5 short months, 3 of our dogs will have received terminal diagnoses.  I'm glad that Dr. Owens is there to walk that path with us.  Oh, and I have to mention Andrew who is the office manager.  There are other reviews on here that are less than flattering.  I can see that if you don't know him well, you could mistake his quiet demeanor, but he is great.  The entire time while the last dog has been hospitalized, he's saved an exam room at the end of the day to let my son visit with his dog for at least an hour.  We've never been charged for that.  Andrew's come in and helped my son feed his dog snacks and shown him how he gives the dog medicine etc.  Andrew was involved with each of our dogs' care.  He has always been professional, thorough, kind and knowledgeable.  I disagree fully with some of the things written on this site about him.  He's been very helpful each and every time. Dr Damotor found a heart murmur that other vets missed. She was thorough and kind. Unlike my previous vet, she didn't suggest expensive unnecessary tests. She's the most knowledgeable vet I've ever met. The front office staff is equally amazing: competent, attentive, and clearly love animals.Read Less

My mom has been going to Dr Demotor for 15 years. We moved during that time and have tried new vets that are closer. Every time we try a new vet we end up taking the animal back to Dr. Demotor because the other vets don't have the experience or knowledge about taking care of tricky issues. We have a dog with a gum infection we took her to another vet for 3 years and she lost over half her teeth. We got fed up and took her to Dr Domotor and the infection was clear within a few months. I have a cat who got into a fight. I tried taking her to VCA and they didnt find the puncture wounds. Because they didnt find the wounds the first time bacteria festered under her skin and now, a week later, she is loosing almost half of the skin on her back. The doctors at Dr Domotors office decided to take a skin culture to be sure that we were fighting the disease with the right antibiotics. No to mention they remembered to give me painkillers... Yea Dr. Domotor is expensive but it's a sure way to guarantee that your pet will get proper treatment by experienced professionals. You wont spend all your money visiting the vet for the same reason over and over. I hope they stay in business for as long as my cat will live. Read Less

I stopped going to Dr. Domoter shorty after prices went up. Also, the final straw for us was when I made an appointment to get my dog groomed, took time out of a very busy day to get there, and when I returned 5 hours later, I was told that they couldn't get to my dog (who had an appointment for a week) because they got in a full size poodle just that day. I asked if the full sized poodle had an appointment and the receptionist just stared at me with a blank face and shrugged. Why don't you try respecting people's time and maybe you will retain clientele. Read Less

Unbelievable worse experiences in all my years of going to a Vet, BEWARE I am a 64 year old Dog handler and I have a special needs Chi, I had a Vet for over twenty years, I moved to Monrovia and found this outfit, the two different procedures my baby went thru was AWFUL a blood test she needed and they were instructed my dog does not eat canned dog food! they force fed her! after the procedure, OMG sick for days! I had help from actors and others and they were not going to take the help! the one gal who worked there helped me, get it thru, she is no longer there :( this last procedure cost me close to 500.00 and my baby was seen again four days after the procedure, 125.00 later and a hard core opiate prescribed! the Doctor on call that morning never spent more than 5 minutes with us 43.00 for 5 minutes! I called yesterday to ask if they would please just see her on her scheduled appointment for ten am today as a courtesy my funds were exhausted :( and I was sure the Doctor who performed last Tuesdays procedure would want to see her, NOPE!! Bottom line they will gush all over your Dog as long as your paying the high fee's ...while I understand Vets have over head and need to pay for employees, meds rent , a compassionate courtesy exam, once in a while? is out of the question from them!!!! nor did I like the on call Vet Dr. Chen sending me off with more meds that would be suitable for an 80 pound dog! another way to get your money! BEWARE awful awful experiences, I only asked to please waive the follow up fee this one time, I am stunned and can honestly say, they have compassion if your handing over money! my baby means nothing to them and I have paid all the fee's and only needed the checkup as a courtesy :( BEWARE ........I am on a mission to let Monrovia's pet owners know.....Read Less

Dr. Domotor gave it to me straight -- Precious had cancer (Hemangiosarcoma) with extensive internal bleeding. I asked for her opinion and decided it was best to put Precious out of her misery. The whole procedure was very professional and all the staff were very comforting. Precious went to sleep very quietly and peacefully, which was my biggest concern. They even sent me a clay paw print with her name on it --- little things like that which meant a lot. If ever I get another dog, I'll be going here.Read Less

May 31, 2014. I called seeking advice on a rattlesnake bite my dog suffered a few days ago. I asked for rates and possible options, which I was given. As I ended my call that last words given to me were 'Your dog is going to die' Only a cold, heartless, uncaring, compassion less individual could be capable of uttering such things at a time like this. I have taken my pets here before, but will never do that or recommend them to anyone. I urge you to find a vet with a respectable staff and someone that knows how to answer a phone and treat you and your pet with dignity!!! Appalling and horrendous. That's the only way to describe my experience. Yesterday, as I was riding my bike past Dr. Domotor's around 4:45pm, I noticed that there was a dead parrot in the grass in front of the "Animal Hospital". I figured some low-life that couldn't be bothered to properly dispose of it had left it there to make it another person's problem. Well, it became mine. I went inside and told the lady at the front desk that there was a dead parrot outside of the building. When she looked at me like she didn't know what to do, I offered to bring it inside if she gave me a box and a pair of gloves. A lady came out in scrubs, and the first lady asked her if she would take care of it. Her response was "I'm off the clock. Can't you call Animal Control?" The first lady then thanked me for telling them and assured me they would take care of it. Well, I guess everyone was off the clock. They didn't do anything, not even call Animal Control. In this case, that would be the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA. I called them this morning after I walked past the building and the bird was still there. When I called Dr. Domotor's to let them know what happened, I didn't even get a response, they just hung up on me without saying anything. To make it clear, I would have been willing to take care of the bird myself in other circumstances. Years ago, driving past a restaurant I worked at (on my day off), I noticed a dead cat in the road in front of the building. I stopped, borrowed a shovel, and buried the cat away from the building. Had I not, there's no telling how long it would have been there. It's also less likely that the litter of kittens with her, which were still alive, would have been saved. I don't usually carry a shovel on my bike, and I wasn't about to put a dead parrot in my pocket so I could rub it with my thumb like Lenny Small. I also understand that you might be wary about a dead animal, and want to take certain precautions before exposing it to other animals. There is absolutely no excuse for just leaving a dead animal in front of an "Animal Hospital" overnight, or even for ten minutes. Perhaps at least somebody there has a brain and genuine concern for animals, but at least three don't. If you take your pets there, good luck with the ones that end up handling them. Read Less

I've been taking all of my dogs there for the past 10 years. One of my dogs just passed away and they were very sweet and nice about everything. They took him and gave us his ashes and we're sensitive. I can usually always get in pretty fast. They are really nice facilities and the vets are great!Read Less

Dr. Domotor is without comparison, in my 30+ years of working with vets throughout the state of California. She has taken care of dozens of my adopted cats and dogs, all in varying states of poor health and abuse. I have recommended her services to friends and family who have felt their animals had problems other vets had failed to properly diagnose or treat. They travel from Fresno, Santa Barbara, San Pedro, etc. I find her prices reasonable, and the extent of her compassion and care for each individual animal, as well as her education of the animals' companions, to a degree I have never experienced elsewhere.
