I am so greatful to Dr Paul. He knows his stuff and doesn't treat based on assumptions without tests to back them up. On many occasions he had good guesses, done test to support his diagnosis and refered out to specialists when needed. The specialists also ran tests and confirmed Dr Paul's DX and they were able to treat our animals at Sage for specialized care. Dr Paul calls me every step of the way to check up on his patients even when they are under the care of a specialist. We bring all our animals here and love the personalized care as opposed to rotating doctors at other places that I couldn't get to see more than once. He has a great memory and explains things well. I am a very proactive pet owner. Our menagerie includes yorkies, cats, and rabbits. My only complaint is the wait to checkout. Dr Paul is thorough and I appreciate that. I have never had such amazing care, treatment and follow-up as I have had with Dr Paul. He follows up with the patient even when other doctors administer specialized care. I have been taking my car to Alta View for 16 years. My dad took his cats there as well when I was a kid. Dr. Ghumman is very competent and caring. Their staff is friendly and helpful. I feel very lucky to have such a good vet! Read Less

Dr. Paul and his staff have been so kind and helpful caring for my animals for the past 20 years. He has literally "saved" my older Spaniel and I attribute the long lives of all my pets to his wonderful care. As far as I am concerned he is the best Vet in the area! Read Less

Please don't bring your dogs to this place. Dr. Paul mistreated my dog, then, killed her! She had liver damage (he informed me that, one day after Lena died, when her blood test result came back) but he injected too many doses of Pancreatitis medication into her body. When I was in the patient's room on Tuesday Mar. 28th 2017, Lena looked at me and vomited bile. I wanted to take her to SAGE for treatment. Dr. Paul told me to go to front lobby, paying for the bill, while he prepared Lena to SAGE. No one brought Lena to the front lobby, so I went back to the patient room, then to his office. From there I saw clearly through the upper glass door that Dr. Paul injected medication into her tongue, Lena's body jerked on the table inside the operation room. The female staffs who came and blocked my way to enter the operation room, said, "Give Dr. some space. He prepared Lena to SAGE." Dr. Paul, how could you be so cruel? If there is any conscience left, please look into the mirror every morning and remember your sins. You killed my beloved Lena, and shattered my world! To staff members who work at this hospital: please quit. As God is my witness, people who worked at Alta View Hospital on Tuesday, Mar. 28th 2017, know: "Dr. Paul is a murder."' Dr Paul, I saw it with my own eyes: you left the crime scene right after Lena's body was jerked. No one perform CPR on Lena on that table. I really wanted to enter the operation room, but the female staffs blocked me. Then, a male staffs inside the operation room took Lena to the surgery room, where you monitored her heart and finally let me in later on, when her heart stopped. How cruel!! How could you murder Lena, when I already paid for the bill, and desperately want to take her to SAGE and beat the traffics hours.! You wanted to have a surgery at your hospital. I wanted to take Lena to see Specialist. I remember what your eyes looked like at that moment. Now I know what the killer's eyes look like! Read Less

STAY AWAY!!! I have been using this vet for about 20 years and the service is continually degrading. Aside from being the most expensive vet in the Bay Area they do not seem to care about the animals, only revenue. I have gone back a few times despite some bad experiences and this is the third bad experience. This time my newly adopted cat ran away and came back with an open wound/injury. He had been away for almost two weeks. I brought him in to get checked the same day he was found, and what do you know! My cat NEEDS surgery. When I questioned the prognosis I was pressured and admonished "You know he is also dehydrated!" Yes I knew that, my cat had been lost and came back hungry. They declined to treat the cat for an open wound, end sent me home without any treatment as I could not pay the $1000 surgery deposit up front. I took my cat home, and immediately made another appointment at a different vet. We just got back from there where the wound was debrided, antibiotics prescribed, and my cat sent home in good shape with no expensive, invasive and unnecessary surgery and no snide comments. Total at the new, good vet was just $129 and at the moment my cat is playfully hanging out at my feet. Another recent horrible experience had to do with my 15 year old large dog. One day he lifted his leg, to, you know, and fell down. Sadly he tore out both knees. I went in to Alta View on a Saturday for emergency treatment and was told, again, that my 15 year old dog needed double knee surgery. Invasive, expensive, with a long recovery, and my dog was already very old. My dog was sent home in very bad shape with advice for an $8000 surgery. Fairly well out of the question for a 15 year old 70 lb dog. The horrible part here was I believed I was going to have to euthanize my dog and went so far as to cook him his last Sunday supper (pot roast), and let my kids know their dog was going to heaven. HORRIBLE as it was not necessary! When I called in Monday to schedule putting my dog to sleep that is when Alta View finally prescribed some pain meds, which within a day or two did a great job getting my dog up and about. His quality of life now is good again. I have switched vets for good this time. Read Less

I am so unsatisfied. I called and asked for a procedure called an overectomy, removal of the overies without the full hysterectomy. The doctor agreed to do the overectomy so i scheduled an appt. When we arrived he basically told us why he could not perform what he had already agreed to. We came to a compromise and went ahead with the spay. When we went to pick our cat up the vet informed us that he had basically double glued the incision, then proceeded to literally say how clever he was, which simply rubbed us the wrong way, he wasnt so much confident , more like arrogant. We had purchased a "comfort package" which included after surgery pain meds, before we left we asked if the meds were smth we took home or if they had already been administered. We were told that she had been given a shot so we asked what it was and how much was given, all we got in return was a name scribbled on a piece of paper and reluctance by the secretary to explqin any further. We left feeling dissatisfied. When we got her home we realized her nails had been clipped without us having been informed beforehand so we called to inquire. The receptionist said it was not standard practice and was only done when paid for, then the dr came on the line and informed us it was something he did as a safety precaution, understandable, just wish we had been told about it. One last thing, and i know i musr sound like a terrible picky cat owner, but the cone she has to wear was so tight around her neck i couldnt even get my finger under it, and i have tiny fingers, so yea, overall not a great experience, but what i can say is that the office seemed very clean and like an overall safe environment for thier furry clients. Dr. Ghumman and his team always take great care of our cats and our dog, Gusto. Their prices are very reasonable and I can tell that Dr. Ghumman loves our 4-legged family members as much as we do. Yesterday, the doctor went above and beyond by returning to the office on a Friday evening when I called after my dog had been attacked. I was calling to see if they were open and he said he'd come back to the office and treat Gusto. I felt so relieved because he is always so thorough and my pets are comfortale with his team. I have taken my dog to a few other veterinarians in the past but ever since the first time we visited Alta View I had no reason to go to another Vet. My dog has received great care and at a very affordable price. I would definitely recommend Alta View Animal Hospital to anyone that is looking for a Veterinarian to take their pets. Read Less
